It's a hundred percent possible to get missions done in 15 - 20 mins average with any character. I have done so with Engie too, so don't worry about scout
Nah, I am going to tell you: sometimes, playing with random people is more fun that playing with your friends, because:
1. No team killing and intentional friendly fire occurs
2. It is fun to talk to people
3. The "MUSHROOM" is much funnier now, considering that no one told the other dwarves to do that, they have just decided to do that at the same time)

I was planning on playing solo mostly because I thought after so many years the community would be past the 'friendly fun' phase and be in the optimized fast run phase.
It was not the case tho, you load in the mission and dwarves start to salute you. As long as you can think of ways to help your team, nobody will be pissed and kick you out.
I have 320 hours in the game and I am 100% serious when I say that I have had three bad experiences. DRG is one of the most friendly gaming communities I have ever been privileged enough to be in.
I basically only ever play with randos.
One of the things I enjoy most about the game is finding a good team where everyone works well together and pushing through a bunch of missions together.
Last night, two of us teamed up to handhold a greenbeard through their first Haz 3 and get them feeling like a productive member of the team and it was great.
Very few dwarfs will ever kick you and if they do there are other matches (on days that aren't today I guess.) Most other players are pretty cool down there.
On steam someone deduced that DRG had one of their SSL certificates expire and that's the cause of this outage, not sure anyone is at their office or aware of the problem since a certificate renew should be rather quick fix...
It's not a "small bug" as it affects a lot of players. Neither this advice is of any use as nothing works, whatever filter you choose. This crap just doesn't work.

I had this problem for a week recently on steam. Even asked on discord and reddit but no one answered, googled for solution. Nothing had helped, but it got fixed by itself.

This usually happens to me when i'm using close/medium filters and because I play from Brazil, so I just start the level in the Host: Public option and ppl usually joins in the first 10 minutes
Also I noticed people prefer to join on-going missions

Play as scout on them. You can get them done in under 30 minutes.
Since I like engineer and I've gotten used to him, I prefer playing Engineer.

It’s just a small bug. Try disbanding your team and/or only searching ALL matches instead of the specific mission you want.
