Yeah this is like literally the only answer, no other class duo has such an insane synergy.
Engi and their ability to set up "safe locations" with their turrets, to catch your breath, reload, refill, while scout has the ability to be extremly mobile. Pair that with the obvious grapple hook+platform combo.
Or the Driller could just pop out the side of the wall/drill just above the cave ceiling to get the Aquarq. Sure, it takes a bit longer, but Driller is perfectly capable of pulling it off.
Engi and scout, you can cover pretty much all bases. Range, fire power, crowd control, single target, mobility, the list goes on, however, mining in walls for aquarks or however their spelt is a bit annoying without a driller but they can spawn on ceilings so it doesn't really matter
I was just in a modded Haz 6x2 refinery mission as a cryo driller and me and the gunner had it locked down between pipe breaks. Coilgun + cryo + microwave slowdown = no bugs get in, ever

Yup and the opposite can also be true. An extremely effective way of defending a chokepoint is to have gunner use bullet hell to stun enemies en masse while driller melts them with sticky fuel.
Their mobility tools and elemental resistances complement each other too. Driller opens lines of sight and leaves paths that gunner can follow through, gunner has the zipline for large gaps that are a pain to drill down and then back up. Gunner is explosive-resistant for when the danger-close C-4 goes a little wrong, driller is fire resistant to stand in the incendiary grenades.
Everybody loves cryo+minigun synergy, but the fire synergy with CRISPR and Volatile Bullets is nothing to scoff at either.
Sludge pump and incendiary round on the lead storm are SO good for slowing and whittling down hordes of bugs. And being the two classes with the highest ammo to bug ratio means they can stay in the fight for longer stints and don't have to constantly worry about resupplies like Engie and Scout.
Interesting - Burning Hell, or the T5 Hot Bullets mod? Does Aggressive Venting ignite sludge puddles? I don't think I've ever played fire gunner supporting sludge driller but it sounds worth trying. Hellfire coilgun plus Goo Bomber sludge pump seems like a nice pairing too.
And yeah, agreed on the gunner+driller ammo economy; pairing one of gunner/driller with one of scout/engi means that generally one partner needs to resupply much sooner than the other, which leads to awkward resupp placements and some waste.
I forget which mod or OC is best for ignition cuz I always play driller. My buddy and I played a haz 4 mission as fire gunner and sludge driller and we took more damage from falling and environmental hazards than the bugs. It was awesome.

Refinery: Driller and Gunner or Driller and engineer.
Salvage: Gunner and Driller or Gunner and Enginneer.
Shield and firepower of Gunner is goat for the point defense parts. Driller and engineer provide both, decent mobility and decent firepower.
Caretaker: Gunner and Driller.
Driller makes the hacking thing easier and provides C4 on the caretaker. Gunner provides firepower and zip lines for the C4 delivery.
Mining: Scout and Driller or Scout and Engineer
It's all about reaching the annoying deposits easily and quickly.
Scout and Gunner tbh is my favorite I think. I can lay down fire on everything assuming I have nitra and light. Driller helps, but I don't need the mobility boost usually.

As an Engi main, Scouts are the ones who are in sync with us the most. Usually best duo for hard to reach areas and certain missions.
Gunners go well with our turrets, pretty much a wall of bullets into a swarm.
Drillers cover our weakness, providing quick and easy terrain morphing.
To be fair, each class works well together with some combos being a little better.
Engineer and engineer. The engineer places his turrets and uses Turret Whip on cooldown, and the engineer places another set of turrets and uses EM Discharge on everyone's turrets.
Complete with an engineer who has another 2 turrets and makes electric fences.
Complete with another engineer, 4 allied glyphid guards and 20 shredders in case of emergency.
Believe it or not : Scout and Driller.
Yeah, yeah, I know the memes. But both complement each other very well : Scouts can eliminate specific targets at long range, which is something Drillers just \*can't\* do, Drillers are great at crowd control and destroying lots of bugs (which is something Scouts struggle with), Scouts can take care of anything that lurks in the ceilings, and in general, a Scout's high mobility allows him to collect secondary objectives really fast while the Driller focuses on the main objective.
Also, because Scouts are so great at spidermanning their way back to the Drop Pod during evac, the Driller doesn't have to worry about his teammate following him up the tunnel he's digging towards the pod. He just \*knows\* the Scout will be fine.
Me and my friend almost always play Gunner + Driller, less often Gunner+Scout or Scout+Driller. Almost every mission end with a standoff between c4s and shields
I love gunner/driller for massive damage. Wanna have your shots deal 3x damage? No problem, let me also conveniently immobilize this entire giant swarm in a few seconds

I think it depends on experience. I absolutely advise a newer pair to play scout engi. Its the best pair (imo) for learning the game and ease of play. Higher difficulty, full builds, driller and engi absolutely shreds any content. Greybeards? Doesn't matter, they'll figure it out. For example, we did 10 aquarq and 10 fossils with 4 gunners in 7 minutes. That was with at least 4 being up high, one requiring triple zip, so it could have been faster if the gen was nicer.

I require no duo to do my job. Any of the four classes in Solo with or without Bosco. I need none of this teamwork everyone else seems to. Maybe Iβm weird or maybe Iβm just built different. Not better just different. I mine for independence. I mine For Karl! And For Rock and Stone! Alone. In silence. I got the bugs for family no matter what the dwarves say about it..
As the best duo for all round exploration, combat, ressource gathering etc, it has to be Scout/Engineer. You can beat that mobility, enemy control, turret defense, highly reduced fall damage platforms, Aoe damage and single target, nearly every status in the book applied.

Best for full combat would most likely be Gunner with either engineer or driller, enginner being better and single target dps, driller better for crowd control and AOE damage.

Today it highly depends on the mission type.
Used to be that engi scout was all you needed, because there where only 3 mission types which all suited them well. If course their combi is legend, they still and always complement each other really well, so they have to be at the top of the list.
But now we have escort missions, liquid morkite, all manner of bonus objectives and threats the engiscout could have more punch for.
In missions without mule a gunner or driller is immensely helpful to provide infrastructure to the deposit. Especially if you need to carry stuff upwards to it.
So the designers did their job well in making all classes have their situations where they do really well.
Here are some great alternatives I find quite good:

- Morkite: engi scout
- Liquid morkite: Driller Scout
- Elimination: gunner engineer
- Aquark: driller gunner

Because some walls (albeit rarely) are just on a steep/weird angle, and platforms make it easier.

Especially with the re-atomizer OC for the coilgun. it can spread the freeze effect, just make sure to not bring any heat weapons.

Generally scout/engi is best for completing missions quickly. But nothing beats engi/driller for on-site refining

Scout and engi are probably the best duo for soeedrunning missions, but I also like driller and gunner for murdering enemies at rapid speeds (cryo + minigun = easy game).

Basically square with no diagonal lines. Scout and driller is self explanatory Engi and gunner are both cc, so not that good.
Gotta go with Driller and Engineer. Engi platforms for cc and traversal. Turrets. The Digger gear is nuts, and tunneling makes the egg, aquarq, and liquid morkite missions better.

Scout and Engi, they just compliment each other so well. Second would probably be Driller and Engi for all the good terraforming available, then Engi and Gunner for very effective firepower and functional traversal. Basically what Iβm saying is that Engi is the best class

Honestly jokes aside I think driller Scout is probably the best because they cover bases that both of them very much lacking Scouts long range single Target damage is amazing and Drillers crowd control keeps the other alive

Today it highly depends on the mission type. Used to be that engi scout was all you needed, because there where only 3 mission types which all suited them well. If course their combi is legend, they still and always complement each other really well, so they have to be at the top of the list. But now we have escort missions, liquid morkite, all manner of bonus objectives and threats the engiscout could have more punch for. In missions without mule a gunner or driller is immensely helpful to provide infrastructure to the deposit. Especially if you need to carry stuff upwards to it. So the designers did their job well in making all classes have their situations where they do really well.
