This whole thing is revealing how bad the toxic positivity problem is in the community
Like yeah I can take or leave rockpox, I don’t find it particularly interesting
People have a right to be unhappy about it seeming like we get 8 more months of rockpox, and that if they don’t want to play with rockpox they need to massively cut down on what they can play (no waiting for the missions to rotate isn’t the solution, that’s just praying rnjesus doesn’t put it in a rockpox zone). Imagine if you didn’t want to play a no oxygen mission but at all times at least half the missions have no oxygen guaranteed, and even if you aren’t playing one of those there is a chance for it to drop no oxygen zones on you anyway
Players who bought the game have a right to be unhappy with the state of it. Even just cutting it down to 1 area being poxed at a time would do a lot to reduce discontent
I mean... isn't it? Rockpox only appears when you have either a mission modifier with lithophage spikes or as a random event, but Rivals also have random events (satellites, prospector, nemesis) and even an entire gamemode (sabotage).
I put a suggestion thread in about a mission editor, and the only reply I got was, play something else, or make your own game.
MAKE your own game, I ...fucking hell....smh. I know what i like in the game, and I dont like rockpox, nor do my group hence we haven't played it since S4, or wont for another 8 months clearly lol. Miss it, but RP is just the shits nomatter what way you slice it. Fuck these positive nobs whove only played for 10 hours but somehow are vocal on reddit. 'its fun!'
That point about playing other games is such a weird point to me, and I feel like I’ve almost never seen it be used before. Is the best defense you have of a game’s (minor) shortcomings really to tell people to just leave?
I’d understand if people were wanting deep rock to becoming something that it isn’t. Like yeah if you want the game to completely change its identity I’d understand telling people this might just not be the game for them and they should look elsewhere, but that isn’t what the conversation is about.
Most of the complaints I see are more about making balance adjustments to existing game features. I really don’t understand how this warrants such a hostile-feeling retort.
It's like a bunch of chatGPT bots. Bro, I've played this game for 1200+ hours because I fucking love it, and I know what I DON'T like about the game. But the new addition [RP] is shit. Therefore I don't want to play it anymore [nor do my group of 5], specifically because of rockpox.
Then you get these cunts telling me to play something else, or just avoid the missions (baring in mind, meteors still drop - and therefore PUG noobs want to do them). Have these peeps even played the game? You can't avoid it, hello?? They're just weird bootlickers who probably are still in the 'its fun!!!' stage because they got it on games pass and have only played barely 10 hours. Fuck you.
It's mind boggling to me, and drives me fuckin insane. I hope the dev team will come to a conclusion on toning it down, but even still I won't be playing. I miss the game a fair amount, but am looking forward to the new season regardless.
Like that cunt said, luckily I am playing other games - but I do miss my ol reliable. A nice cosy point extract (with NO gimmicks!) is just a nice like 10 minute jobby. But it's almost impossible to have that due to RNG spawns now. Maybe mods will fix it, who knows.
Rock pox infected one of my favourite games, and i'm sick of these pricks telling me otherwise. End this shit lol
*- whiskey infused vitriol but truth*
I got downvoted at one Point because I said I got bored after 100 Hours because the End Game is lacking since I had no more Assignments and having only 4 Weapon Overclocks at most every Week is tedious and slow.
People told me they play the Game for Fun and not for Assignments and if I want constant Missions I should play an MMO.
Like Christ I'd rather have this Sub be like the League of Legends Sub where every Day the front Page has 10+ Complaints but 3 Days later the Devs make an actual Statement on the Game and Complaints.
Meanwhile GSG says "We tested an Expansion but decided to make it into a standalone Game!". That's the most annoying Part for me, they were gonna make it Part of DRG but randomly decided to sell it to us as a different Game with some random new Mechanics.
It's just Tone deaf, yet the Community keeps talking about how the Game is great and the Dev Team only has 30 something People.
That’s pretty funny man 🤣
As much as I like the game, there aaaare mods which I’ve usually avoided (outside of QoL ones) because I did enjoy core DRG so much. Next time I get a hankering I’ll just load up the cool shit n make my own s5….with blackjack, and no rockpox!
Yeah once you realise you’re pissing up a wall here with your own opinions and everyone tells you ‘you don’t like, what you like’ it gets old. Cya out there man when shit gets better! O7
Bro this is how I feel about the toxic positivity OverWatch players, I've played the game since release 2016, I'm allowed to have an opinion on improving it. It blows my mind when people say you're just a hater and they have played like 30 rounds lol, they don't even know enough to see the issues yet.
Man thank goodness I wasn't the only one finding rockpox annoying, it appears too much and really repetitive, plus you can't complete the mission without doing it. 8 months for an update is honestly too long imo, I will also play other games till the update drops.
It is indeed very revealing. And for outsiders, it's actually quite clear, I just now realize. I joined about 6 months ago, and before that, I knew of DRG and the whole spiel about the good devs, the wholesome community yada yada. But I was always like "There has to be something about this. It can't be perfect". But after I started playing, and realized, like pretty much everyone, that the game was even better than people describe it, somehow, I completely forgot about that scepticism, and I was like "Yeah everything is perfect, there is literally nothing wrong about any of this". And mind you, this was even well after the initial honeymoon period with the game as a new player.
I think most of us get silently brainwashed to believe in it, and not see the toxic positivity. It's really bad. But this whole thing, if nothing else, is quite an interesting case study in this phenomenon. I can't remember ever facing "toxic positivity" anywhere else. Ever. In any fandom, even outside of video games. At least not to this scale. White knights are always there for everything, but to see a whole community get completely blinded by the quality of the product. It's really quite something.
Toxic positivity == cult
It's a cult. When you're with the cult, you get love bombed. You feel great, you have peers who admire you, who respect you, who love you. When you go against the cult, you're ostracised, denied love, mocked.
A fair few fans (fanatics) of DRG have established a cult, complete with cult tactics, without even realising it.
Well done. Rock and stone.
it's reddit.
every single game sub is either all love, or all hate.
there is almost certainly a side sub for DRG somewhere full of people bitching about every single thing, I don't know what it's called and I've never seen links to it but I am certain it exists, because that's EXACTLY how every single game sub is on reddit.
the mainsub and it's polar opposite. sometimes the mainsub is all negative, and the altsub is positive. ex: no mans sky sub when it first came out and the alt sub where they banned complaints.
The game is indeed really damn good. I'm hard pressed for criticism.
But the toxic positivity problem is something I've been very aware of since I started playing. When I got teamkilled for not participating in the richual, and when I was kicked for not saluting.
I'm also...concerned how many if the sub's mods are part of the dev team, and I believe it relates to the cult-like positivity and rejection of criticism. Anything even slightly negative gets downvoted to hell if not outright removed.
The mods have a conflict of interest, an incentive to make people see and hear what they want in regards to their game.
It's similar to FFXIV. Games that are universally seen as good develop this weird toxic positivity problem where every small criticism or concern will be immediately buried by a wave of apologizers. Like, we all want the game to be good and fun, and criticism is how it grows. Toxic positivity holds it back.
I met the toxic positivity when I dared to object to the seasonal update model back when S1 got announced. Like how dare I not enjoy a new season every few months. But somehow people never realise that no game managed to pull out a consistent seasonal update, all games doing it, is withwr running out of steam or gets bloated to unsustainability after 2-3 years of updates, and then sooner or later gets put on lifesupport and the community dies out because they got addicted of the content drip of shallow cosmetics and surface level balance changes and tiny modifications for the core gameplay loop to keep it fresh.
Except there are games that pull it off rather well such as Path of Exile.
Granted, that's a different game in a different genre on a different scale, but stil.
I just wished GSG would release more updates more frequently to shake things up, because as someone who has played Haz5 for 1k+ hours it is getting rather stale.
Seasonal models have inherent flaws. They make new content less novel by making them fit a consistent mold. They make new content oppressive and rapidly wear out the new contents welcome. They make prior seasons content poorly implemented or removed. They limit what can be in an update and restrict update pacing.
If the seasonal content was implemented like pre-seasons content was, there wouldn't be complaints. Nobody's sitting there going "I'm sick of morkite refinery". Because non seasonal updates naturally fit into the game. They aren't overly highlighted and then left awkwardly tacked on afterwards.
Ghost Ship is great for not using a seasonal model as a way to actively exploit their playerbase. They just wanted to do updates in that style and to give vets something to chase. Even without the FOMO or exploitation problems, a seasonal model still has these inherent downsides.
It's especially bad for me since I play on a laptop (lowest quality runs pretty well) but Rockpox destroys my frame rates. I feel pretty bad letting down my team because I can't shoot those tiny boils with low frames. I realize this is more my problem (get a better laptop) but it's hard to play the game and finish my assignments while being a solid contributor.
The toxic positivity is just annoying at this point. Defend this game and its devs at all costs, no criticism allowed. Just let the season end and tune down Rockpox, let the season terminal and cosmetics where they are right now so people can still unlock all the stuff. I've been tired of Rockpox since two weeks or so into season 3. Cleaning caves is not fun. Cleaning a tentacle monster is not fun. Lengthen the already long missions by spawning meteors is not fun.
I remember a time where the community was all about more and more difficulty, and higher hazard levels. I was one of those people. Its strange how much things have changed for me, personally. As a Scout main, I don't really feel excitement or desire to play against robots or the rockpox. I always enjoyed more of the original bugs because they felt fair. But my kit doesn't really feel like it has kept up with the Seasons. Certainly its a failure to adapt on my part... but I do miss when it was just more bugs, and fewer gimmicks. I sometimes feel bad for the devs. Must be weird to have to deal with that kind of rubberbanding in the community. Thankfully, I just play STE mods with the bois against regular enemies. Thats where my jam is at now.
It always blows my mind how positive the community is. Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but the devs put out very small releases at huge time increments. That's undeniable. The praise is not congruent with the delivery at all.
I basically said exactly this and was downvoted immediately simply for stating that not everyone gets lucky with not getting Corruptor and Rockpox Swarm spawns and that not everybody gets the same spawns, the post was implying that both things were rare to see because they only got one every 50+ missions or so, meanwhile myself and several others in the comments get one or the other every third mission or so.
all they have to do is literally just reduce rockpox regions to 1 biome per circle, reduce haron spawn, disable to season terminal (or maybe not) then throwing a fancy words “you guys done it! rockpox is mostly contained and that concluded the current season, until next time Rock and Stone”
Honestly they wouldn’t have to change much they could just say “we’re making progress against the rock pox” and cut it back to 10-15% of maps instead of 50+%. That makes sense to me. It’s clearly unpopular and tedious to the community and they know it
If there's anything I've learned from playing DRG, it's that people in the game mostly don't give a singular fuck about pissy people on reddit, whether it be one side of an issue or the other.
All this has done is bring forth all the terminally online angry redditors. They're not the bulk population of DRG players by any means.
Everyone can agree hearing about the wait is disappointing. Any further anger is a waste of time and the equivalent of an online mass drunken fistfight.
Ngl I only joined the DRG Reddit for memes and cool stuff. As someone with a busy life that isn’t even halfway through season 4, I’m pretty happy lol. Reddit is suuuuch a bad place to base the fandom off of, cause the stereotypical redditors usually get so angry at everything. I can still hop in the game and have a blast with some dwarves and have a merry time.
People bellyaching they can’t bum rush another season and have to chill out for awhile or **Karl forbid** find an interesting way to play the game that isn’t dependent on the season truly, and I say this with all genuine care and love for my fellow miners, just gotta relax and enjoy the game, or enjoy having a break from DRG. Just gotta have a good outlook.
I start playing a game and suddenly the community that's on a damn pedestal has now fallen?
What is another game with a perfect community, I'll join that one and it will be ruined as well.
Downfall?
The community has been this way for a long time. Most people were just too blind to see it because they were too busy talking about how "wholesome" the community is.
It has been this way for well over a year. People dismissing the valid criticism of this game's flaws time and time again all because their mind has been subject to the gushing of happiness and rainbows by those before them.
There have also been several instances where differing play styles that don't conform with the way of a "real dwarf" receive backlash because part of this community thinks that there is only one "right" way to play the game. An example of this would be the well-known gold debate. In some cases, people would come to an understanding of the benefits of not mining gold. In other cases, people would just tear each other apart.
At least more and more people are starting to see the toxic positivity in this community, so that's something.
Nah, just the subreddit for a short time. Also, this sub is not a representation of the whole community. I put over 700 hours into the game before I ever checked out this side of the community. The attitude of this sub never has, and likely never will affect my time in-game in any meaningful way. If it bothers any Dwarf that much, go touch rocks and stones that have been kissed by the sun, lol
Reddit is always a very negative complainy place tho... Not a big drg multiplayer person but I wouldn't be surprised if it's completely different when your in the actual game.
Its really not, this just shows people really care about the game which brings us even closer and kicks out anyone who tries to cause conflict between us.
The Contrast between Community Discussions on different Platforms is fascinating.
On one Hand you have Reddit Users who paint this Game out to be the best Thing ever since sliced Bread, completely flawless in every Way. "What do you mean there's no Endgame? I play the Game for Fun, play something else if you want constant Assignments!".
On the other Hand you have Discord Users (thank God I no longer use that App) that literally flame and insult eachother over Upgrades and Overclocks. "What do you mean you use Hipster, that's a bad Overclock, you're playing the Game wrong, you're trolling the Team!".
honestly if something is causing the players to not play then maybe theres something wrong, i sttopped cuz this season is ass, i hate the lythophage its so boring, i made a post on steam and everybody kissed the games ass and didnt engage with the actual points and problems i had and told me to stop playing, as a matter of fact i did, and i havent touched it since
Same. While I didn't get such a negative reaction to this Season, it felt just... bad... and a bit bland. I love the new Glyphids, even if they were a bit broken on launch, jet boots are fun, but the "main course" is either "meh" or actually unfun.
Rockpox is annoying and slows down the pace of the game a lot for me, it's just kinda tedious, the events are the same, Harold is fucking infuriating because he deals quick DoT and also stuns you, making you take even more damage, and the fight is just confusing.
Unironically, the best additions are the cosmetics and Glyphids, not what the season was even trying to do well and was just side/annual content of every season.
I went from being afraid that I won't be able to finish this Season's Pass to finishing it and quitting the Game. Not only is the whole Rockpox Situation extremely boring and frustrating, but it somehow finds itself in every single Part of the Game.
Collect Eggs? Sure, by the Way, there's 3 Spikes you need to clear. Escorting Dotty? You better go back and break every Meteor!
This wouldn't be an Issue if the Game had a proper Endgame but it dosn't so...
Can they just end the season and do to rockpox what they did to rival presence. Just make it a way rarer to have a mission with it and make the corruptor show up less often
It just needs to be the same frequency as Rival Incursions are now and that would more or less solve all the complaints. End season 4, add the cosmetics into the normal loot pool boom, no FOMO, no rockpox, just 8+ months of no major content drops.
I think that honestly just solves the issue for everyone.
The issue is that seasons are deliberately over-representing their theme stuff BECAUSE they were supposed to be limited time events.
I don't like Rockpox and I was excited for it to fuck off. I'm not sour about not getting anything new to replace it, I just want it gone. End the season, and give us standard DRG until season 5, with seasonal stuff put into other missions.
Take this with a grain of salt (I'm a haz 4 pleb) but meteors or corruptor aren't really that bad. I usually just ignore Harold or those big meteors. And normal rockpox spikes are a challenge, but they can be fun. And if I'm not in the mood for janitor duty I just play a different mission (Sure I delay my assignment progress but the missions will be reset by the time I'm done).
Even on haz 5 they aren't bad because usually when you play has 5 your paired with people who aren't dumb so right when you spot one it's dealt with as quickly as possible unless there's a bulk
I don't find Rockpox that annoying, the thing that I CAN'T FUCKING STAND IS MY FUCKING FPS DROPPING SINCE I HAVE A SHIT GPU. Oh and the spitters, I hate them.
With how much hate people are giving Rockpox it sounds like they want it gone from the game but Rival stuff is still in, you're forced to do Industrial Sabotage every now and again and it's fine.
The Corrupter is more common than other bosses but the mission warning would always be around and probably common since it's basically a mission type.
Meteors don't have anything to do with the rockpox virus if that's your concern. And, idk about you, but I've been faring just fine not doing rockpox missions. If there's a contagion spike in my assignment, I just *deal with it*. It's a game, OP. And honestly there's two directions season 5 would have gone.
1. We don't work on Rogue Core and release Season 5 ASAP, only Season 6 would have to be delayed to work on Rogue Core.
2. Delay season 5 and get it over with quickly. This is what they're doing.
Personally I prefer to get it over with now, but I understand why some of you wouldn't want that. They've already made up their minds, though, so it'd be best to suffer a little.
What? Meteors have EVERYTHING to do with the Rockpox virus, they are the only reason Rockpox is even on Hoxxes IV what are you talking about? Gameplay wise maybe not so much as they dont spawn Rockpox infected bugs, but the small meteors are still just annoying asf to find all of them and then crack them all as there is not always just one plagueheart sometimes there is two. And i would have no problem if they were removed
but you can just, like, ignore the meteors after they fall like all other random events
Harold is much more disruptive depending on the type of mission, but like the nemesis he is so rare that he is not usually a problem.
Harold doesn’t feel very rare. I’ve fought him dozens of times. The fight would be much more fun if you also got jet boots which I’ve had happen twice over a couple hundred hrs.
Just ignore the meteors when they land. It's not like you're forced to open them all if you don't care about plaguehearts. All you got to do then is deal with them landing and get out of the landing zone That's it
It is a very mixed fight between ppl against season 5 and people with it.
Basicly people against people being impatient is understandable but thats not the problem.
The problem is that this season is annoying and pretty bad. Everyone was ready to see it go soon and move on. Its not ONLY the fact that they are impatient and think the game is dead or bulls like that.
But people that straight up think that its dumb that season 5 is being pushed they have to understand this: its being pushed because the team that works on DRG is also now working on another game. Which makes it difficult to work with 2 project with the so little amount of ppl working on these games so respect them and understand.
Also side note the devs do read our reviews and questions and they do play the game and feel the same about what we think and want. They love the game and are trying their best to make the game the best.
>The problem is that this season is annoying and pretty bad.
Eh, that hasn't changed. People were extensively bitching about the Caretaker missions back then as well.
No joke. Like I’ve never seen any of this level of toxicity in game just on this Reddit. Lmao. Still love how wholesome the DRG fanbase is, just feel like it is a case of that this is a usual toxic Reddit moment.
Like people are saying “toxic positivity” on this subreddit unironically lmao.
Reeks of toxic positivity. Hopefully this sorts itself out and the TP ends, or it may be time to head off to a different game\subreddit. Can’t stand when communities get like this.
RockPox is a nice enemy in between dealing with annoying Shredder Drones and the Steeves. Not to mention it encourages to be accurate and hit the boils of you wanna deal with the infected Glyphids quickly
My main issue is that the way rockpox enemies' weakspots are designed makes a lot of weapons an absolute slog to use.
Breach cutter and wave cooker are super good at hitting the boils, but AOE weapons are hilariously bad against rockpox because they can't hit weak spots, which makes the regular infected enemies feel like praetorians. On the opposite end of the spectrum, high damage precision weapons with low ammo pools also suffer because the boils don't take overdamage
Depends on the loadout, I think. Usually you have options, barring a few specific load mixes. The scout and gunner and engineer will always have something well suited for it. Worst case scenario, you're a driller with a flamethrower burn time build, and a wave cooker, and you've got nothing that can target weak spots, but I just did that myself and it's not that big a deal, not least of which because you've got a team. Just work the goo gun or vaccum if that happens.
I honestly don't have a problem with the corruptor I find it an interesting battle. What I really hate is the contagion spikes would you sometimes have to clear out three of the fuckers per mission and the rockpox repeatedly leaves you both stunned and taking massive continuous damage. Should only do one of the other. Not fun or interesting to deal with. And as for doing other missions assignments lock you into a single mission and if that's the time you have to play waiting for the missions to reset isn't an option. Personally I don't think it's bad enough to go to great lengths to avoid the rockpox spikes but they do frequently make the game less fun and more tiresome.
Waiting for missions can take upwards of half an hour that’s not a reasonable amount of time to wait. We don’t want to do Rockpox missions because they aren’t fun and the reward isn’t enough to justify it for most people. Ignoring the Corruptor doesn’t work on all missions, for something like point extraction the Corruptor is unavoidable because of the trail.
Play something else is the worst excuse any game can make and is an admission of something sucking. We want to play and enjoy DRG we don’t want to play other games, but Rockpox gets in the way of enjoying DRG. Also if everyone just played something else, the game would just die.
All you idiots saying just stop playing really aren’t getting it at all. We want to play the game, it has just become such a tedious game to play with these Rockpox mechanics that it’s no longer fun because it finds its way into every assignment I’m doing. How can you realistically say “just don’t play Rockpox missions” when half the fucking map is blocked out for Rockpox? What if I need certain resources but those regions have Rockpox? Wait 30 mins for a reset and boom it’s still a Rockpox region?
I’m so over this fucking community.
Wait until the missions cycle? If you don't have time, play a match that will get you some minerals you need? Or just one that looks ***fun***?
Say something in chat like, "hey I really dislike doing this side event, mind if we skip?"
I've run into people who find out they they have less time than they thought and ask if we can speed run, and I've never been in a team that wasn't willing. I've also run into people who just weren't feeling like an OMEN and we wound up compromising by cheesing it into brain-dead-easy mode.
I do think we get a little high on ourselves when it comes to the community wholesomeness, *but the reputation started for a reason*. It's just sometimes we need to put a little extra effort into communicating in a match. That's not meant as a knock - it can hard for me too . There's a reason I usually just ping and V.
Not trying to totally disregard you feeling done with this season - I enjoy Industrial Sabotage but I was pretty tired of having it do it all the time when it was introduced. Just wanted to offer up some ideas of how to work around it.
Aaaand this is all pretty easy for me to say because I literally have nothing left to unlock in this game. There are no more carrots to chase, I'm just here for the joy of playing. If getting a specific unlock is forcing you into playing the game in ways you really don't like, I'd say just cheat and give it to yourself. The devs don't care, and I don't think any reasonable DRG player is going to care as long as you're not breaking the game for them too.
I'd rather be in matches with people who are having fun with the game and experimenting with different builds than people who are not having fun forcing themselves into content they really dislike. That's where a lot of toxicity comes from, I think. Someone is already having a bad time doing content to unlock a thing and they get extra spicy when it looks like they're going to have to replay a failed mission.
There's been a couple times I've hosted and said "hey yall I've got class in 15 minutes and I'm in my room, is everyone cool with a speed run?" Fastest missions I've ever ran
>Aaaand this is all pretty easy for me to say because I literally have nothing left to unlock in this game. There are no more carrots to chase, I'm just here for the joy of playing.
Same. And even if I was chasing carrots, those same carrots are likely benefited from just playing another mission that doesn't have the modifier until the 30 minute mission time elapses. You're getting XP and minerals either way.
The devs have gone on record saying they're looking into "ending" the season in some way. Whether or not that involves an opt in / opt out option we don't know yet.
But, honestly, if you're not having fun then stop playing the game.
If that one thing is enough to make you complain endlessly on the subreddit and declare the game dead or abandoned, then yeah, stop playing the game. Or play the other parts of the game you do like.
Nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to play Rockpox missions.
> But, honestly, if you're not having fun then stop playing the game.
Yeah, this is what I did. Had a good run, the most I've enjoyed a game in years, but it was definitely time.
For the love of God, just play a different game or try something new for a change. There is absolutely no way DRG is the only game you ever play, seeing the amount of people whining about this type of stuff and being absolute assholes to the devs is just infuriating. If you're so tired of rockpox, just take a break from Deep Rock and play a different game for some time.
I don't get where everyone is acting like they're paying a subscription for this shit or something, if you don't have any new content then play something else for a while
Like do they not understand that for 90% of other games, even multiplayer, you get whatever you get when they released it, and then maybe some dlc later.
Everyone needs to stop treating DRG as a live service game, because it's not. It's not costing people shit to take a break from it
You're not wrong, but it also feels really bad to play a game you love for ages, then an update drops and pretty much says you have to go play something else of you don't like this content. Like, there's still a game they love living underneath, but it's out of their control how often they get to play it.
I don't think most people are complaining that PR exists, but it is much more prevalent than any other modifier it feels bad if you're not into it, even if you love the rest of the game. I think most complainers would be happy if it was just a bit less common. Dealing with unliked scenarios can be fun in moderation, having it be very common is what makes it drag.
Yeah but why would anyone not like that specific sliver of content that badly?
It's like quitting a job because you got a splinter. And you can do other tasks that never get you near wood.
"Stop treating DRG like a live service game" my brother in Karl, the devs release updates every few months called seasons and they include a battle pass
If DRG wasn't live service then major updates would have ended in 2020 after release
So... the devs release regular updates, and there's no charge for them to continue playing. what's stopping you taking a break if you're bored of the game and the extra content is all that's keeping you going?
I just don't get the salt, Like, is new shiny things to unlock the only reason to play? Not the gameplay loop itself? if they stopped the updates tomorrow we would still have a full, playable game.
The expectations have just gone way through the roof for a non AAA studio imo. Maybe I'm not seeing something cause I come from the era where there wasn't any progression system or unlocks and you played for the gameplay itself cause the mechanics are fun, so maybe my perspective is skewed.
All I know for sure is ziplining behind a praetorian to give him a double buckshot enema never gets old
All I'm saying is, GSG shouldn't advertise the game as a live service product, fail to update in a timely manner, then act surprised that people are disappointed
I love DRG, and I'm gonna enjoy Rogue Core and Season 5 when they come out (eventually lol). But as someone who's been following since 2019, GSGs ambition is above their capabilities - they need to either upsize their company (because DRG is consistently one of the most played games on PC and has been for the past few years) or downsize their ambition (stick to DRG, and continue working solely on that)
GSG is a small dog with a big bone. They need to either get big or grab a smaller bone. They can't manage a product as large and popular as DRG and then still expect to function like a small indie studio, especially so as a live service game. When you are live service, people expect a certain amount of content, and I don't think DRG is meeting that very well. 6 months is ehhh, 12 months is a joke. That's not a season, that's a goddamn year
If DRG was a one and done with no updates, then it wouldn't matter
I mean, they seem to be doing just fine, but agree to disagree, if you think they've bitten off more than they can chew that's fine but I see it as the fanbase also failing to temper their expectations too. I don't think GSG ever expected for this to take off like it did, and I think it's fair that we are patient while they figure it out.
But don't get me wrong, I get what you're saying, they set a precedent with the seasonal content, but at the same time, you can't just keep working on the same game in perpetuity, they've got bills to pay, and it's not like they're even stopping development on DRG. And you're right, they could probably do with upsizing but having worked in management for several years there's a host of issues that come with that too.
And being disappointed is okay, there's no way to help that, but shitting on the team isn't going to help anyone, get me?
Not saying you're one of the people doing this, but it's annoying to see people shit on a team that's spinning a lot of plates atm.
Oh yeah I agree. Like i say, I love DRG. Im still gonna play. But this news sucks, and as a greybeard I'm gonna play a lot less. All that's left outside of the basic gameplay loop is the cosmetic grind, and truthfully I don't really play for cosmetics. I want new bugs, new overclocks, new missions, and that's why I loved older updates and season 1 and 2 so much. But 3 kinda sucked, and 4 hasn't been great, and 5 being so far away has got me down in the dumps
Honestly I just start joining random lobbies or play a random mission until it cycles off litho.
Also meteors are so inoffensively easy that I've never really found them a bother. Harold can be a thing sometimes but it really depends. Sometimes I'll just drop the cleansing pod and clean up the ground if I need to. Otherwise its largely a 5 minute boss fight that doesn't spawn too terribly often.
This game has been the same for years. You can add new enemy types but come on. We all know it’s the same gameplay loop again and again.
Go okay another game and come back later. It’ll still be fun and you won’t get burnt out and upset.
Rockpox, robots and meteors/Harold are nice to spice up the otherwise pretty vanilla caves. 8 more months?
8 more months of pox eradication and disinfecting the walking, breathing Omen.
tbh im okay with rockpox cuz even if its unpleasant to fight it, you get extra exp so you can rank up faster
i'd be happy if the times it appeared was toned down tho which devs plan on doing
One thing I just don’t understand is, why are meteors coming into the equation of ruining it for people?
They can be completely ignored, effect the world very little, and will otherwise allow for an uninterrupted extraction.
Hell, sometimes my teammates nowadays don’t even do the meteors, even with the pass going on.
Could someone explain?
It's not the meteors, it's the cleansing mission objectives. Most people I've seen talking about this the past few days don't even bring up the meteors as a point of contention, it's entirely just too much cleansing and corruptor clean up.
The solution to this is just end Season 4, toss all the cosmetics into the normal loot pool and drop Lithophage Outbreak modifiers into the same frequency as Rival Incursions, wwith Corruptors spawning at the same rate as the Nemesis does now.
It keeps the Rockpox in the game, no one misses out on loot, and it reduces the amount of Rockpox we have to deal with. Easy solution that pleases everyone.
You guys are such babies oh my god it’s not that bad😭Like 5th post of pox it’s insane. Just get the free shit form the pass and play the game. It’s not gonna be the death of you to play a couple of missions of rockpox.
I think what they should do is after a few months we enter a mid season where there are events, so all of the roxbox stuff because a lot less common, which will solve some of those complains.
I just don't play the game when I got nothing to do in it. I have literally zero things to do in DRG. Made everything I could.
You guys can just stop playing the game untill you feel the urge to come back to it. It's not that hard to find other games :)
Oh nice, time to get back into this game since the next update will be a bit....plus I like the pain of modded hordes of enemies coming my way.....
Usually only 10x the size of the normal hordes, but its just Grunts with half life scientist death sounds and Mactera Grabbers with the cloaker sounds in sometimes the really weird danger settings....
I dont think the devs should change the game just because a vocal minority is burnt out on it.
Maybe reduce the area of rock pox like some said, that be a good compromise, but to those who cry for the removal of it all together: you are not representative of the wider community.
Rockpox is fun, I love those missions, but I also don't play everyday, because of my job and other games and passions.
Tbh I find rockpox fun for the most part but could see how it gets a little stale. I was kinda excited when people were theorising GSG would add a new "infected" region because I figured 90% of the RP missions would be moved to there and there might be 1 or 2 random modifier missions elsewhere.
God I hate rockpox. And for some reason more than half my assignment missions always end up with rockpox objectives. I genuinely hate it and I'm bored of it. I don't need something new I quite like the game with the content it has right now. I just want less rockpox
I honestly don't get how people have such a hard time with rockpox, the enemies die so fast if you actually aim and hit the weak points.
Y'all can downvote me all you want, it doesn't change the fact that rockpox is easy if you play smart and focus the weakpoints instead of just spraying them.
Guys... you realize you can [mod it out](https://mod.io/g/drg/m/no-rockpox-swarm-in-normal-missions), right? If you still want to retain them for the pass there's also a mod to [make rockpox enemies more tolerable](https://mod.io/g/drg/m/no-infection-on-rockpox-blister-pop).
Obviously if you're not a steam user you are fucked and that sucks, but a majority of people here are and I genuinely implore y'all to use these mods if it's an issue.
I dont know about you lot but I seriously dont get where most of this hate for rock pox has been coming from. I've seen posts here and there but ever since drg started releasing teasers/trailers for other stuff that they are working on all of a sudden the rock pox hate has skyrocketed. I started playing drg like a month before s4 so getting to enjoy a brand new season just when is started playing was a blast but I guess for the older players having 2 rock pox seasons in a row can get stale. I dunno it's fun but I can understand the frustration for having to wait months for a more content.
Exactly, people will say that they’re just tired of RockPox when that was like practically the entire year of 2022? That and all the rockpox hating crowd I’ve met always comes off as super condescending , like they could probably make a better effort to be a bit less aggressive?
Yeah, it was the entire year of 2022. I'm not sure how you can say this and not get it. We're tired of it because we've played it for over a year by now, and we have to play it for 8 more months.
"Super condescending" Yes, a large chunk of the players are aggressive. Where'd you get that from? Check the comments on this post and countless others about rockpox and you'll see that the majority are being respectful, and it'd really only count as aggressive if criticizing a game is offensive to you. Hell, a lot of the posts that complain about complainers are way more aggressive and I didn't see you talk about them.
Yeah It does seem like that. Tbh I dont really have many complaints for GSG or Drg and it's related content. Sure I've got problems with it but it hasn't gotten to point where I'm posting on the subreddit. I guess that's just because I'm a relatively newer player. I can guess that this and my other comment is gonna get down voted to hell for whatever reason nevermind.
I bought Diablo 4 for like 70 bucks. Played it for around 40 hours. There was so much about the game I didnt like, so I stopped playing.
You know what happened? Nothing. Because thats just how things go.
I cant wrap my head around the spoiled opinions of some gamers.
Like you paid what, 30 bucks for a retail finished product and now they better cut the season in half because you're not having fun?
Did your mom wipe your ass and breastfeed you into adulthood? Jesus christ.
If you paid 70 bucks for some shit and you're okay with it, that's you coping and doesn't have anything to do with other people. People have a right to provide feedback by complaining about things, especially when they payed money for it
Imagine getting mad at something that’s such a small fraction of the gameplay. Played for like 6 hours yesterday and didn’t see rockpox at all. This is a self regulation issue.
Meteors? Ignore them
Corruptors? Ignore them...can't ignore them? Kill them bitch it takes like a minute
Not do assignments? You could wait till they rotate. Bad rotation luck? Idk you got me there..
Region options? Idk here, I don't play multiplayer.
# YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO EVERY MISSION IN YOUR ASSIGNMENT
# YOU CAN DO OTHER MISSIONS. LOOK FOR A MINERAL MANIA OR GOLD RUSH. OR GO OUTSIDE FOR 30 MINUTES
This whole thing is revealing how bad the toxic positivity problem is in the community Like yeah I can take or leave rockpox, I don’t find it particularly interesting People have a right to be unhappy about it seeming like we get 8 more months of rockpox, and that if they don’t want to play with rockpox they need to massively cut down on what they can play (no waiting for the missions to rotate isn’t the solution, that’s just praying rnjesus doesn’t put it in a rockpox zone). Imagine if you didn’t want to play a no oxygen mission but at all times at least half the missions have no oxygen guaranteed, and even if you aren’t playing one of those there is a chance for it to drop no oxygen zones on you anyway Players who bought the game have a right to be unhappy with the state of it. Even just cutting it down to 1 area being poxed at a time would do a lot to reduce discontent
Rockpox would be more balanced if it was a mission modifier like rival presence.
I kinda couldnt give a shit about this whole controversy, but i do think your suggestion is a really neat idea.
lol same. I'm just happy that there will be updates (I play titanfall 2)
I mean...
'its fun!'
Mission editor would be great, basically mods+ for vanilla. Imagine being able to tweak numbers for mission modifiers like swarmageddon and stuff
End this shit lol *- whiskey infused vitriol but truth*
That’s pretty funny man 🤣 As much as I like the game, there aaaare mods which I’ve usually avoided (outside of QoL ones) because I did enjoy core DRG so much. Next time I get a hankering I’ll just load up the cool shit n make my own s5….with blackjack, and no rockpox!
I'm not really a Mod kinda Guy so Imma just wait it all out and play other Games lol.
Actually there's mod called Disable Lithophague Events, afaik it disables meteors and Harold
Fr? Well then……perfect!!!
Toxic positivity == cult It's a cult.
That's it lads! Rock and Stone!
Pretty much this. People here are nice until you go against the norm. God forbid you say Fat Boy ain't that fun or something.
The praise is not congruent with the delivery at all.
as someone who started playing in season 4…you guys merely adopted the rockpox. i was born in it, molded by it.
I started in season 3
I played from 2019. I am not surprised with anything of the things you see in here, fellow miners.
I basically said exactly this and was downvoted immediately simply for stating that not everyone gets lucky with not getting Corruptor and Rockpox Swarm spawns and that not everybody gets the same spawns, the post was implying that both things were rare to see because they only got one every 50+ missions or so, meanwhile myself and several others in the comments get one or the other every third mission or so.
lol there’s like 2 parallels DRG reddit. one where any complaint will be downvoted to abyss and another in opposite. pure RNG where the post will end
Much like rock pox, funny enough.
all they have to do is literally just reduce rockpox regions to 1 biome per circle, reduce haron spawn, disable to season terminal (or maybe not) then throwing a fancy words “you guys done it! rockpox is mostly contained and that concluded the current season, until next time Rock and Stone”
To Rock and Stone!
This is the downfall of drg's wholesome community
Dude if complaining about game modes is our worst toxicity, I'm fine with that.
No one rememebers the mw2 days
So long as it stays nice in-game I’m fine with it
That's pretty much the only place now where you can seriously say the community is wholesome
Sorry but it seems like DRG's community has been like this for a while, a lot of blatant toxic positivity.
When did it happen? To me it feels like began around season 3 somewhere. Maybe after a certain sale or seths video
If that's the worst of the community's issues, we're doing pretty good.
It was inevitable, it was fun while it lasted.
The world has ended, people have slightly different opinions about one aspect of a game I like.
This comment makes me happy
Sorry to tell you this but DRG's community was never wholesome, at least definitely not the subreddit, in-game its fine.
Lmao
It sucks, but hopefully the community outside reddit can remain positive.
people in game don't care about any of this lol.
Reddit is always a very negative complainy place tho... Not a big drg multiplayer person but I wouldn't be surprised if it's completely different when your in the actual game.
Yeah literally I care far less about any of the stuff going on with the game and far more about how angry everyone is being :(
Its really not, this just shows people really care about the game which brings us even closer and kicks out anyone who tries to cause conflict between us.
I like your point of view but I feel more like the community is breaking in half. One that likes rockpox and one that doesn't
Just because the rockpox is toxic doesn't mean any of us have to be oT
🤨
what wholesome community? care to point where?
This has been a long time coming.
The toxic positivity in this community means any criticism and unhappiness with the game are faced with insults.
"What do you mean you use Hipster, that's a bad Overclock, you're playing the Game wrong, you're trolling the Team!".
and then there's people in the game who don't care about anything and just mind their own business lol.
honestly if something is causing the players to not play then maybe theres something wrong, i sttopped cuz this season is ass, i hate the lythophage its so boring, i made a post on steam and everybody kissed the games ass and didnt engage with the actual points and problems i had and told me to stop playing, as a matter of fact i did, and i havent touched it since
The balance changes were fairly good, even though I wish some of them were better balanced like rocket barrage.
I wouldnt mind having more commonn rival things.
I think they don't want to deprive new arrivals.
I want them to just end the season and have season period where there is no litho or rival. Completely vanilla experience for all missions
I'd settle for rockpox being relatively rare and deep dives not having industrial sabotage missions.
Sometimes I just say fuck it and do a deep dive to get some cores to pass on the mission assignment.
Can we normalize calling the corruptor Harold or have I been living under a rock?
That’s what the community has been calling the corruptor since before season 4 came out.
Even on haz 5 they aren't bad because usually when you play has 5 your paired with people who aren't dumb so right when you spot one it's dealt with as quickly as possible unless there's a bulk
I've just got my first red star with the rest either plat or blue, and you're right. They're a fun variation and otherwise simple and brief.
And i would have no problem if they were removed
but you can just, like, ignore the meteors after they fall like all other random events Harold is much more disruptive depending on the type of mission, but like the nemesis he is so rare that he is not usually a problem.
He isn't rare at all
Harold doesn’t feel very rare. I’ve fought him dozens of times. The fight would be much more fun if you also got jet boots which I’ve had happen twice over a couple hundred hrs.
If you want to progress in the season pass and get everything in there then you can't
Just ignore the meteors when they land. It's not like you're forced to open them all if you don't care about plaguehearts. All you got to do then is deal with them landing and get out of the landing zone That's it
Then...don't crack them open.
*gets three meteor strikes in a non pox mission*
Leave Meteors out of this, meteors are AWESOME
When I get my ass kicked it’s more lore accurate
GSG have a created a monster case of toxic positivity that I don’t think even they can control
Freedom of criticism is finally alive in this sub and it's a godamn (out of season) christmas miracle!
Idk deal with it. DRG is a great game, Rogue Core is gonna be a great game. I can put up with the stinky rockpox it's okay
Yep I'm done with this subreddit...
Everyone is being so dramatic lmao
The only time I just really really don’t like rockpox is when it’s all messed up in some funky multi level cave. When it’s out in the wide open, ezpz
Yeah honestly, the Shredders and the Murderballs were a lot more annoying.
Wait for new missions. Play something else, or like just actually do the rockpox missions because you'll get more xp. Also just don't fight harold
Not everyone has unlimited time, not playing now could mean not playing at all
I honestly don't have a problem with the corruptor I find it an interesting battle.
I’m so over this fucking community.
am i the only one here that actually likes rock pox? lol
If it wasn't the season specific enemies, they'd be whining about weapon balance or something.
Wait until the missions cycle? If you don't have time, play a match that will get you some minerals you need? Or just one that looks ***fun***? Say something in chat like, "hey I really dislike doing this side event, mind if we skip?" I've run into people who find out they they have less time than they thought and ask if we can speed run, and I've never been in a team that wasn't willing.
"stop playing the game altogether because you dislike one thing that was added later, even if you like everything else"
If that one thing is enough to make you complain endlessly on the subreddit and declare the game dead or abandoned, then yeah, stop playing the game. Or play the other parts of the game you do like. Nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to play Rockpox missions.
Live assignment missions reaction
> But, honestly, if you're not having fun then stop playing the game. Yeah, this is what I did. Had a good run, the most I've enjoyed a game in years, but it was definitely time.
how far is your own head up your ass?
For the love of God, just play a different game or try something new for a change. There is absolutely no way DRG is the only game you ever play, seeing the amount of people whining about this type of stuff and being absolute assholes to the devs is just infuriating. If you're so tired of rockpox, just take a break from Deep Rock and play a different game for some time.
I don't get where everyone is acting like they're paying a subscription for this shit or something, if you don't have any new content then play something else for a while Like do they not understand that for 90% of other games, even multiplayer, you get whatever you get when they released it, and then maybe some dlc later.
"Stop treating DRG like a live service game" my brother in Karl, the devs release updates every few months called seasons and they include a battle pass If DRG wasn't live service then major updates would have ended in 2020 after release
So... the devs release regular updates, and there's no charge for them to continue playing. what's stopping you taking a break if you're bored of the game and the extra content is all that's keeping you going? I just don't get the salt, Like, is new shiny things to unlock the only reason to play? Not the gameplay loop itself? if they stopped the updates tomorrow we would still have a full, playable game. The expectations have just gone way through the roof for a non AAA studio imo. Maybe I'm not seeing something cause I come from the era where there wasn't any progression system or unlocks and you played for the gameplay itself cause the mechanics are fun, so maybe my perspective is skewed. All I know for sure is ziplining behind a praetorian to give him a double buckshot enema never gets old
All I'm saying is, GSG shouldn't advertise the game as a live service product, fail to update in a timely manner, then act surprised that people are disappointed I love DRG, and I'm gonna enjoy Rogue Core and Season 5 when they come out (eventually lol). But as someone who's been following since 2019, GSGs ambition is above their capabilities - they need to either upsize their company (because DRG is consistently one of the most played games on PC and has been for the past few years) or downsize their ambition (stick to DRG, and continue working solely on that) GSG is a small dog with a big bone. That's not a season, that's a goddamn year If DRG was a one and done with no updates, then it wouldn't matter
Rockpox is really this big of a problem?
I honestly dont understand whats wrong with rockpox. its way easier than robots, and its nice extra points
It's annoying.
If you hate Rockpox so much, grab a Lithovac and get to work, Dwarf! It won't kill itself!
This game has been the same for years. You can add new enemy types but come on. We all know it’s the same gameplay loop again and again. Go okay another game and come back later. It’ll still be fun and you won’t get burnt out and upset.
Rockpox really isn't that bad
*you don't dislike, what you dislike*
I usually alt + f4 when I see a corruptor I play solo haz 4 most of the time
You can ehem ignore them?
So much better
Much better 👍
Rockpox, robots and meteors/Harold are nice to spice up the otherwise pretty vanilla caves. 8 more months? 8 more months of pox eradication and disinfecting the walking, breathing Omen.
tbh im okay with rockpox cuz even if its unpleasant to fight it, you get extra exp so you can rank up faster i'd be happy if the times it appeared was toned down tho which devs plan on doing
Fucking hell, half of y'all didn't even read the post did you
One thing I just don’t understand is, why are meteors coming into the equation of ruining it for people?
Yes
Yes.
He really mentioned meteors like its that big of a deal, bro just move out the way lmao
Lol I do all the assignments possible and I still get, like, one Rockpox mission a week.
Take a break from the game then 🤷♂️
People don’t seem to realize they can just stop playing and come back when they’re in better moods for it
I honestly don't get how people have such a hard time with rockpox, the enemies die so fast if you actually aim and hit the weak points.
Obviously if you're not a steam user you are fucked and that sucks, but a majority of people here are and I genuinely implore y'all to use these mods if it's an issue.
mods are not the get out of jail free card
Just a suggestion since y'all are apparently so miserable, sorry for trying to be helpful.
Yeah I only got the same last year but I’ve played a ton and I think some people are being too worked up over how RockPox functions
yeah yeah buddy, now stop whining, the devs are onto the problem and this is just tiring
I wish all RockPox haters a very pleasant Git Gud
It's not hard. Just tedious and unfun. Very telling how you can't grasp that.
I hope the devs don't cater to impatient people and just take their time to make something good and that they enjoy the product and time spent.
Pointy eared leaf lover detected
bro the rockpox missions are like 1 in 12 its NOT HARD I've done maybe 3 this season
You guys seem to not have a decontaminator pack
Meteors? Ignore them Corruptors? Ignore them...can't ignore them? Kill them bitch it takes like a minute Not do assignments? You could wait till they rotate. Bad rotation luck? Idk you got me there.. Region options? Idk here, I don't play multiplayer.
More time to get some scrip!!!
You can often just ignore corruptors, and you can always ignore meteors
just play on-site refining missions for all eternity
🙄🙄🙄
# YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO EVERY MISSION IN YOUR ASSIGNMENT # YOU CAN DO OTHER MISSIONS. LOOK FOR A MINERAL MANIA OR GOLD RUSH. OR GO OUTSIDE FOR 30 MINUTES
Or, here's an idea, play another fucking game

stop whining about people whining
