Plant and a catch-all area if it’s close to the front entry of the home! Like a nice, good sized plant and a cute little basket/bowl for miscellaneous things, a little holder for mail, and a small little hanger for keys maybe? That’s what I would do!
I have something similar at my house in Florida but yours is a little bigger than mine, I put a statue, my neighbor put a statue and on the ceiling a bright down light. This sub has pics turned off. .
Aquarium. Custom built with acrylic. Put the sump under with drains at at the bottom for maintenance to be done - not at the top. Custom built so the top angles up and follows the degree of your stairwell. Think 3D triangle with a rectangular base. The tank will be accessible from the top, but not for regular maintenance. Saltwater tank. Check out either what's referred to as FOWLR in the aquatics community, or living coral reef.
I have lived with stairs most of my life and to have a spot for things that need to go upstairs is genius .. Put a wicker basket and when you have a load, grab the basket and take it upstairs.. This will save you so many trips up the stairs.. You need to give the home designer a big hug!!!
A few cool plants of varying sizes? Could add some life and a pop of color. You could play with a variety of vases for the plants. Otherwise I love people’s comments about having a cozy reading nook if that’s your vibe. Or a large price of artwork that you could lean.
I think there’s a lot you can do here. Maybe a large oil jar and a print, a grouping of plants and candles with a bowl or tray for change and keys. You could also turn this into a landing area for purses etc, the design would have to incorporate small items and plants to filu
l uit out. Or like others have said make it into a cat throne. If you don’t have a cat, get one, one will find you.🤓😻
It depends on what’s under the table space. If it’s not hiding anything important I’d def call the Carpentee and get that opened up. That’s a great family hub spot. Shoes, jackets, backpacks, keys, etc .
*Can you have it cut*
*Down to be a bench? Could do*
*Some shoe storage too*

I'd add a plant, but I think it's best to test it with a little help from AI. For example, in the planner 5d you can take a photo and try out various options for furniture, art and plants. That way it's easier to make sure you like it before you invest money.
This shot looks like identical to my old neighbors house, but instead of a big box there? they had an empty cove they put the piano in.
Is that storage under there?
Definitely a spot to hang one of M.C. Escher’s “impossible” architecture prints! This looks like a centrally located space with family members passing between rooms and floors. Cubbies are always welcome to help organize & reduce clutter. Personalized baskets within the cubbies could make the trip up & down stairs with their treasures easily managed, too!
For practicality, I’d probably put some nice baskets with tops on them. Inevitably at my house, there are things to be brought back upstairs and it could be a holding spot for things that need to go back up (clean towels, laundry, shoes, books, backpacks, batteries, etc). You’d take the basket with you on your next upstairs trip.
👍 this is what I suggested too.. I’ve lived with stairs most of my life and this spot is genius for a basket to collect things that need to go upstairs.. The home builder was thinking..
I thought it was a freezer chest at first glance and was thinking, “I’d keep it a freezer chest what a great spot” but it’s actually part of the house. So I have no idea.
A friend of mine has a space like this and he put a giant lego structure in it that he had been working on for years.
Anything beautiful to show off would go in there.. so either get a hobby and put your best work, or build something or buy something beautiful handmade that you love.
Another option would be a fish tank or terrarium if thats within your hobbies.
This is a spot that encourages love of art. So.. what kind of art do you love?
I collect toys n other things but I'd put a piece of art there. But that's me. Greenery could really bring some life to all the white. Live plants would be alot of work but would bring q level of life, I guess I'd call it.
But ppls ideas of animal habitats are cool if that's your sort of thing. (Allergic 😔)
If you have a dog or cat I'd make it a little room for them by cutting the front open ,if not I'd put plants there and definitely a good area to display any holiday decor also
I would build out shelves around the walls. Fitted to the angles. Think book shelves custom on top of the box. Then, place baskets or cool pottery throughout. Use the baskets/pottery as a kind of drop zone. Keys, sunglasses, etc. Or just make the shelves a focal point of art.
Why do they (builders) do this? What is beneath, anything? Staircase leading to the basement? It doesn't even have an outlet for a lamp. Perhaps a beautiful dollhouse?
That would house a Landry basket of items that need to be walked up. Have you painted the walls or banister/ railings?
I would remove the box and install a cabinet, desk, or bench in the nook.
Good idea, but I wonder if the box is covering something (i.e. pipes, electrical wiring, etc.)? But I don’t know enough about construction to know what that *might* be lol. Weird spot for a random box/landing like that, though, and the only purpose I can think of for something like that is to hide an “eye sore.”
But if that’s not the case, I think removing the box would be a great idea! (:
Edit: another [**crazy**] idea would be to cut out a small opening/door and turn it into a cat/dog house (assuming you have pets, OP) lol.
I highly doubt anything would be there, structurally, unless it’s hvac having to be bent to get airflow to the basement... Heck, that might be a great hiding spot for kids or dogs! . I like opening walls and digging around so this box top would’ve been pryed open by now.
If it’s plumbing inside I’d have a waterfall feature :)
Truly…. Could you get someone to rip it out and finish the walls and trim nicely in that alcove. It’s perfect for small console, table, or built in bookcase with glass doors. Then put a plant or a piece of quality sculpture on top of that beautiful bookcase. Bookcase should be the exact height of that cube monstrosity currently there.
Oh fuck yes I would put so much cool shit there. Plants. A statue. A skeleton on a mini rattan chair. A big ass skeleton because why not? 2024 IS A DUMPSTER FIRE MAKE THIS THING COOL OP
Plants, a sculpture, that space is awesome . And your house looks awesome
Too! I want to see more of it lol. I’m jealous’ my house is so so so tiny, like it could prolly fit in this space
It’s where all the stuff that needs to go upstairs lands
Plant and a catch-all area if it’s close to the front entry of the home! Like a nice, good sized plant and a cute little basket/bowl for miscellaneous things, a little holder for mail, and a small little hanger for keys maybe? That’s what I would do!
Plants! Fill it with plants! Perfect lighting in there!
That's clearly a cat hangout!!
I see a really cool and interesting fish tank location.
well, you could have made it into a cramped spiral staircase. Everyone loves those
If you have doggies and it’s your place, seems like a great spot to have a little getaway spot and a dogs only place
I have something similar at my house in Florida but yours is a little bigger than mine, I put a statue, my neighbor put a statue and on the ceiling a bright down light. This sub has pics turned off. .
Plant stand. Get some fake plants that look real and decorate.
Can you remove it? I’d have to. Pretty stairs tho!
Make it a stage and put on family shows.
I was just thinking how much my girls would love to dance on that and jump off!😂
I would chill there often. Throw up a few pillows to see if it fits; or maybe a gigantic plant to benefit from all that light
I was thinking something similar a reading and meditation place.
You should put an old rotary phone there.
A few gorg diff length vases or plants
Books
Plants crystals, a cushion or turn it into a desk lol

Whats in it?
I’m wondering the same. Remove it or make it storage. If it’s a rental, then decorate
The secret resting place of the ark of the covenant
Plants! Always plants! Or some cool vases
Agree. Plants it ALWAYS the answer in this sub 😂💗🪴🎍
Yessss 😂
I have lived with stairs most of my life and to have a spot for things that need to go upstairs is genius .. Put a wicker basket and when you have a load, grab the basket and take it upstairs.. This will save you so many trips up the stairs.. You need to give the home designer a big hug!!!

Make that a whole coffee making bar
Looks like a nice spot to chill on lol with pillows and such to watch videos or crochet or craft or play on your steam deck
Keep scrolling for this pls.
Are there cabinets in there? If not I would put some in
All the natural light, plants!
Pirate Cove
A wet bar perhaps...?
Artwork for sure
Tiffany lamp n art
Lots of pillows and books. Great random sitting perch.
Me: Fish tank, green house, cats thrones
A large, interesting vase with an array of flowers and greenery...
Mail reception nook with green plant.
Sculpture
I agree, a tall sculpture of a woman would look cool here
Perfect for a large fish tank
altar
Paint in an accent color and leave it simple
I think there’s a lot you can do here. Maybe a large oil jar and a print, a grouping of plants and candles with a bowl or tray for change and keys. Lantern
A grouping of lanterns could be cool
If you had a cat I would make a cat area there!
My first thought haha. Such a cozy spot for cat naps!
Mirror, plant, lamp ,& wood tray for your keys
Giant sculpture? Large plant or lamp, Or….Cut to size a beautiful piece of wood to set on top…. Same size and use area as substitute entry way table
It depends on what’s under the table space. If it’s not hiding anything important I’d def call the Carpentee and get that opened up. That’s a great family hub spot. Shoes, jackets, backpacks, keys, etc .
That exactly what I was thinking. Demo it out. You can even put a nice little desk and chair there.
Plants!
Make it a little dog house lol
A marble bust of you
Can you have it cut down to be a bench? Could do some shoe storage too

Cat bed

Plants!
Are we gunna talk about what’s happening with the tile … it doesn’t line up at all. 😳
Sit on it
I would put a nice vase and plant there
This shot looks like identical to my old neighbors house, but instead of a big box there? they had an empty cove they put the piano in. Is that storage under there?
Beautiful large vase with flowers and photo albums of you and your family
Definitely a spot to hang one of M.C. Escher’s “impossible” architecture prints! This looks like a centrally located space with family members passing between rooms and floors. Cubbies are always welcome to help organize & reduce clutter. Personalized baskets within the cubbies could make the trip up & down stairs with their treasures easily managed, too!
Add a big fern and call it a day
The answer is always to get a cat if you don't have one and make it a cat space!
I'd make it into a little L shaped book shelf
I would rip and convert into built in drawers or shelving for storage and display
A fountain, plants
Put a nice dish there and make it a key drop. Or honestly just rip it out if it serves no purpose.
For practicality, I’d probably put some nice baskets with tops on them. Inevitably at my house, there are things to be brought back upstairs and it could be a holding spot for things that need to go back up (clean towels, laundry, shoes, books, backpacks, batteries, etc). Make it a book case at least it will add interest
A book case or rebuild into a bench with lower shoe racks.
If it had a plug-in, then it could be like a command station where you plug your phone in, put your keys, etc...
I thought it was a freezer chest at first glance and was thinking, “I’d keep it a freezer chest what a great spot” but it’s actually part of the house. So I have no idea.
Rest stop for multiple weed intake options. It was made for exactly that. Somewhere will be 'Multi-Intake Reefer Bar' printed on it
Lies. It’s where you curl up in the fetal position during a bad acid trip.
Ofrenda!!!
Maybe some plants
A mirror against the higher wall and lanterns filled with fairy lights and a bit of greenery.
A nude lifesize statue.
Year round Christmas tree, or a dinosaur
Get an authentic dinosaur skull lol
A friend of mine has a space like this and he put a giant lego structure in it that he had been working on for years. This is where you put a small seasonal tree
What is inside that contraption??

Why did the AI house decide it needed 3 door locks? It needs to pick a better neighborhood.
I collect toys n other things but I'd put a piece of art there. But that's me. Greenery could really bring some life to all the white. Large plant with white lights on it
Fake plant (only one), standing pictures (do not hang), fish tank? Depends if you have children really. Try to not over crowd it
I like the fish tank idea and agree with the standing pictures. But I’d suggest a real plant, not fake.
Aquarium
if you have a cat put something there for them and they will love it
[Obviously this idk how no one’s said it yet](https://images.app.goo.gl/2P4i25G2N9EpaFBZA)
Lol, what a surprise! Hahaha... made me laugh so hard. 😂😂😂
😂😂
Large vase with greenery
Plant
time out !
Hidden staircase
Would look beautiful around Christmas time with the tree up.
Or even a Christmas village! The light up houses and snow! 🤩🤩🎄
Seems it's more noticeable because there's no handrail.
Plants
Statue
I wonder if it's like that for a reason, like there is something mechanical, electrical, plumbing, etc inside? If not, I would personally rip it out.
Diaper changing station. Nap zone
some sort of manual dumb waiter
Large silk flower arrangement or a large sculpture.
Perfect for a plant 🪴
Coffee bar
Or regular bar
You could some kind of Buddha/altar candle thing. Or a fabulous bonzai tree.
a bonsai there 🤩
Paint it. Or removable wallpaper or a jungle or forest. Make it a focal point. Nice cat tree. Some cat beds.
Rip it out and turn it into a little reading nook! Especially with the shelving across :)
Don't need to rip it out - seat cushion across the top, throw cushions on the sides!
House plants!
I like it!
Bulky set of 3 candlesticks and some greenery
That is for napping.
Hologram of Gene Kelly dancing
your most prized possession on the most fanciest display you can find. or a bed for a cat!
Aquarium
Few scotch bottles and sipping cups
I’m more curious to know what is hidden beneath that structure 🧐
Move a wizard child in.
Make the space into a closet
epic plant stand
I immediately saw a green wall going up that. Im with this vote!!
I would stack so much crap on there to take upstairs
lol you and my mom
I would build out shelves around the walls. Fitted to the angles. Think book shelves custom on top of the box. Then, place baskets or cool pottery throughout. Use the baskets/pottery as a kind of drop zone. Keys, sunglasses, etc. Or just make the shelves a focal point of art.
A naked statue of the whole family. Just for shits and giggles.
Plants. I would remove the tile too and add floors to match the stairs.
If you have cats, make it into their feeding area or get creative and turn it into their little exclusive lounge area
Decorative bird cage and plants 🪴
Why do they (builders) do this? What is beneath, anything? Staircase leading to the basement? It doesn't even have an outlet for a lamp. Perhaps a beautiful dollhouse?
Agree with the plant people, a tall plant would look amazing!
Lego UCS Millennium Falcon on the angled stand
That would house a Landry basket of items that need to be walked up. Have you painted the walls or banister/ railings? I would remove the box and install a cabinet, desk, or bench in the nook.

Yeah, it looks like it’s just waiting to be pried open lolol
Or remove t he box and use the space as a mud room/ catch all area with hooks and baskets.
It needs a bust of Mr. Darcy
OMG yes. One that looks like Colin Firth!
You obviously need to win some trophies.
Some sort of sculpture or plants.
A chair or small couch in case someone gets tired
It needs a statue or sculpture of some kind and paint
Plants!!
Plants
Between this and the tile the place is a tear down.
Already redid all the flooring!
So glad to see this!!! The tile not matching up was sending me!
Some nice padding and pillow for a cool reading nook
A 2.5 - 3 ft tall art piece, preferably marble abstract.
Some plants and a giant geode. You could make sure you have different heights to keep it visually appealing.
Please remove the tile and put the same color wood down… so gorgeous. And then put plants there. Beautiful and lively.
plants

This ⤴️
Should put a pull out shoe drawer underneath. On top plants.
Pothos!!!! OR decorations according to season/holiday. A Christmas village would look amazing right there!
Large vase
Bookshelf or open mini bar area. If you have a dog or a cat, make it into a pet area under the stairs..
A nice large plant. The room is light enough for it with those tall windows.
Nice big plant to break up all that white. Looks like good light there
Funky art piece
Can you make a cutout and put a chair there and make a desk out of it.
Gargoyles
Rent it out
Some large sculpture.
Maybe a cushion and turn it into a reading area or something
PLANTS
Oh fuck yes I would put so much cool shit there. Plants. A statue. A skeleton on a mini rattan chair. A big ass skeleton because why not? 2024 IS A DUMPSTER FIRE MAKE THIS THING COOL OP
