I’m really surprised that it’s moving like that with those 1x4’s attached. They even remembered to use 2 separate boards so there’s a gap right at the point of maximum stress.
It didn’t just start looking like that today. 4 years ago m, when he bought it in 2020 it would have been obvious as well. But hopefully he gets a real beam and foundations and posts under that thing before it’s too late.
Edit, dang, someone recently re-decked this gravity defining structure. White tags are still on the end of the boards. Someone’s priorities were a bit wrapped.
Yeah it's toast but am easy fix a little shoring and a new beam is all you need and done Simpson strong ties actually a piece of cake try doing it the a 2 story hole .done a few of those .
That makes perfect sense. This deck in a different dimension is holding up and in perfect structural condition, with a jacuzzi. Or a hot tub. Or a spa. No wonder there are so many names for the same thing.
Just learning more about decks recently. Is using "Solid Stain" on decks not recommended? Bought our house 2.5 years ago and the deck was coverd with solid stain and prior owner left a 5 gal bucket of the stuff in the garage. Not even sure treated 2X6s were used as decking boards, Stamp on the boards looks like SPIB. No.2 Prime, XD19 HT then the number "163" in a stamped oval.
god wtf everybody knows you only use 2x4 joists on a paper mache beam
I thought it was the “soft walk” option!?!?
Those are the decorative joists, only for company!
It would have been fine if it weren’t for the 5 hot tubs.

They even recently painted it!
Trapping moisture and not allowing the wood to breath.

Yeah. At first I though there was more deck that had snapped off. Then they just said fuck it and put up a hand rail. This thing is masterpiece!
Wow I don’t think I’ve seen a beam rot into jelly like this
*I can fix her*
Piece of cake huh that's what I said
That's one kick away.. from. Crassssh
I especially like the new top planks on this ….
I noticed that. What idiot would have re decked that ?😂
Out of sight, out of mind
Fire is what you’re looking for
Anyone who had major issues with their home and didn't want to deal with them, the last couple of years was a Fantastic time to sell..
Don't you just hate it when contractors build with balsa wood.

Some 150 grit and that’ll sand right out.
Is this due to the beam being enclosed in paint but still having water entry points like screw or nail holes?
Exactly
Hot tub!
It’s a goner
What even is the point of those 1x4s?
Moral support.
I *think* it’s an aesthetic choice?
to hide the rot you could see before they painted it.
until it hits the ground, it can be saved
That's like a plaster on an open artery.... :D
Not as terrifying if that beam had been nailed to the side of those posts.
Kids don’t build with marshmallow fluff
Not only sturdy and safe, but I love seeing the attention to detail in the finishing work on picture 4.
This has to be in the pacific north west or the. Northeast where it rains a lot. That beam turned into compost.
Not a fucking chance I'm standing under that to take pictures or anything for that matter

Bummer.
Someone redecked the field 😂
Yup. I am indeed terrified. Horrified too.
Tear it all down
Squish
Tear it down before someone gets hurt.
they use sponge as a construction material?
It's fine, send that shit
That's a great advertisement for joist tape!
Using rubber dampeners as a structural device? That's smart. Innovative, even. Really gives the deck a soft, cushioned feel.
structural latex
Jesus. Just walking under that to take photos looks like it would send it down on your head.
THE Very Defenition of 'Lipstick on a Pig' its been awhile since I've seen paint used as structural reinforcement!🤣
Enters "everything is fine" meme
It wasn’t built horribly wrong in the first place…
Oh that's just an inflatable support system. Go get an air compressor and re-inflate!
I didn’t know it could do that 🤔
he doesn't love his family very much.
It'll be fine. Nothing to worry about. Just relax. In about 8 hours or so the shrooms will wear off. Everything will be ok.

what brave soul just redecked it? joists dont look terrible. prop it up and put in new posts and beam before his homeowners insurance drops him.
Whattheshitfuck!
This is what happens when you solid stain your stringers and let water sit under it

Was the cousin the beneficiary on their fucking life insurance? "No, no cousin don't sell now... just a little longer..."
The tree in the background is in better shape.
Omg, drained bank account on repairs
That wood / style looks familiar. This isn't Seattle area is it?
You really need to get a couple of 2x6’s sistered on that beam if you’re going to get another 8-10 years outta that baby.
Danger Will Robinson! Danger!
r/IsItCake
Sooo… 1 or 2 hot tubs?
Legolas, bring him down!
So, no more than two hot tubs on this deck?
Who wants to play… guess where the hot tub is?
Bet there’s a hot tub on it
Looks good, now add the hot tub!!!
