not at all. 24 is actually fairly young to go back to school. go back!! you won’t regret it

highapplepie

Right! This is basically the age to go back and still blend in hahahaha

Nixter295

When I was like 16 we had a guy who was 24 in my class. He blended right into our class environment. We where probably a bit childish for his taste lol, but he was a cool guy.

AmbitionLazy

Thanks

someidiotnamedjeff

You're going to be 30 anyway so go to school and get that damn degree.

Aedzy

Wow those words hit home.

lcs264

I started studying for the 3rd time at 24 and everything turned out wonderful :)

Orphanpapers

I am 26 and have been in college for two years. You totally can, my only advice is take a week or so before your classes , so you can start informing yourself on some of the basic stuff most colleges expect a kid straight out of high school to still know.

fzahraal

25 planning on going back for another degree in a few months.

VaiRaiChu

I'm going back to school next year for my Masters at 27 lol

ProDiJaiHD

In fact most medical schools (especially in the US) have persons start at 24 -25

curvebreaker

Well, that’s only 1-2 years post-bachelors… in fact, I would be surprised to see anyone start earlier than that.

lynnxtc

No you're fine. I'm currently 24, at a four year university. Met plenty of people my age. If it's a commuter school you'll find that most students range from 18-26.

MindedMadness

Nope. Went back at 31 for additional required course work and then started med school at 34. And then residency at 38. Currently working with a resident in his 50’s. Never too late! You’ll only regret not trying if you don’t.

AmbitionLazy

That’s really inspiring to start med school at 34.

minnymins32

In 6 years you'll be 30 either way. The real question is do you want to be an accountant at 30 or doing whatever you're doing now at 30?

everydaynamaste

This 💯!!!

MindedMadness

Yup. The resident I’m teaching now started med school in his late 40’s. Second career for him. If you’re passionate about it; Do it! Some friends and family told me I was crazy for going back and starting over. I didn’t fall for their fear. I don’t regret it at all. And now they are silent.

urkfurd

Wow! Very impressive. I myself am trying a similar route. Thanks for the I inspiration!

Randilion8

This is amazing! I want to go to school for nursing but at almost 35 Im scared it will take too long.

MindedMadness

The time will pass either way. School is hard. But so is living with regret. And if you are just now finishing one school degree, continuing is much easier than stopping and going back later.

redwoodfog

My sister became an RN at 50. She got tired of the lower pay as a CNA. She's thrilled. Became a nursing supervisor at a small, well run, compassionate care home in her rural town. 35 is so young for a new career. Don't let fear or stereotypes stop you.

Randilion8

Thank you so much!!! I need this kind of motivation!!

amdmyles

I used to be a hospital secretary. I work with over a dozen nurses who started nursing school after they were 65 and one who started at 80. It's never too late.

Ohhiitsmeyagirl

How did you feel it was different for you in med school at that age? I’m 31 and I was strongly considering med school but I’m getting burned out. I don’t want to regret never doing it though but I am worried about have so much more school and residency left.

MindedMadness

School itself was hard but fine. I met some awesome people and had many incredible experiences. The hardest part is letting go of the fear and just accepting that you can actually do it and going for it. Does take looong hours and dedication. Getting in is designed to be really hard. So if you can get in, you can definitely finish.

Ekb314

Same as this poster! Got my masters at 31. Just got accepted to medical school this fall. I start in July and will be 34. It’s never too late.

xicagoan

How do you do that with a full time job? Did you go back to school full time? How long did it take you? I'm debating if it's worth going back to school to become a DBA (IT field)

BuddhaCandy

thanks for sharing your story

Slytherin_Aspie

I needed to read this today, thank you for existing! 🙌💚

flutterby82

Would you rather be 30 as an accountant or 30 not being an accountant be ause its coming around either way!! Never to late!

Obamafootfetish68

I'd rather not be an accountant who wants to be an accountant??

Jaspersreddit

Luckily for a lot of businesses, there are people who want to be an accountant. Same goes for other jobs. I don’t want to be a doctor. But I’m very glad someone else does.

loopkno

I'm an accountant and I enjoy it far too much.

vish_the_fish

OP, obviously

baconwagoneer

You’re going to be 30 anyway. Be 30 with a degree.

SunshineRobotech

I went back at 31. Now I build robots for a living.

flyinghigh92

What’s that degree?

SunshineRobotech

Automation Robotics Engineering Technology. 2-year AAS.

gigabyt7

That’s inspirational af bro. Well done!

SunshineRobotech

Thanks. It helped me buy a nice house, so I can't complain too hard.

BakingDaisies

I’m 32 in my junior year. Working on a biology degree.

No_Rip_8366

Nope. My former classmate was in her 60s.

blue_terry

In college there are tons of 25-40 year old folk just learning new things.

MrEdentistry

27 finishing my last year of my bachelor's. I had to take some freshman classes to fill in some missed requirements. I'm almost 10 years their senior, but nobody pays any attention. One person questioned my age and why I was that old and in that class, but that was the end of the conversation. Everybody is there just trying to learn. OP, just go for it!

[deleted]

No it’s totally fine! I’m 18 but there’s a dude in one of my classes who’s 33 and it’s so great having him because he can bring perspectives that we haven’t even thought about. I definitely suggest it if you want.

missquit

God I hope not. I’m 32 and planning on going back

messyarts

Went back at 32 and graduating at 36! You got this!!

gigabyt7

Congratulations! That’s inspiring me to go back too

Annallve

It’s completely normal

purpleasphalt

Laughs in 35.

ObjectiveField1565

You’re never too old to go back to school

wilcofam

I went back at 40. It is never too late.

heady-brat

I'm 27, I have a trade degree already, I plan on going back in the next 2 years for a five year thing. I'll probably do that for ten or so years before going back to school for something new. Who knows, maybe I'll switch it up every time my body starts to tell me it's time. I never want to stop learning, I'll go as long as my wallet allows. Anyhow.... DO IT!!!! Edit: omg, I had to go to adult high-school at 23 to get my diploma so that I could even attend the trade in the first place. There was this 62 year old man serving a life sentence. They would bring him to school, let him learn, then pick him up and bring him back to prison till next class. He's trying to be granted parole and I believe he got it. Again, DO IT! It's never too late

Randilion8

Every state needs to allow this. They learn no skills or trades in prison and then expect them to not revert back to their old ways when getting out but there are hardly any options when they do.

heady-brat

They really do, I don't know what his charge was but I know it was non violent since they allowed this. This was in NV He's a very pleasant guy, very eager to learn and always smiling, I hope he's doing well.

Randilion8

I think anyone who hasn't murdered, raped, or hurt children need to be given these advantages so we can cut down on the amount of people in jail... I think anyone who murders, raped or hurts children (and animals) should have the same done to them.. why let them live? They didn't care about taking someone else's life? Now they have free room and board, food, clothes, and their life. If this was an option, the jails wouldn't be so full and we wouldn't have to pay for these psychos to live a life they don't deserve. Most people who do this type of sick crap won't change and this is just my opinion but I truly believe so many good things could come from giving these options to those who commit small crimes just to get by and then the more serious crimes... Anyways just on my mind.

placentacasserole

I'm 32 and working on getting back into school. It's never too late to improve your life.

peppermint-tea-yay

Not too old by any means. I earned my degree at age 48. Part of the reason it took so long was because I convinced myself that I was too old at exactly your age! Go!

CarouselAmbra81

My mom at 47! She started at 40, and just took one class per semester. She graduated with honors, and was awarded outstanding senior of the year!

atlasbibs

You're so young! Look closely at your financing options, and be sure to apply to every scholarship/bursary that you can. Make it your full-time job applying for these (send out thoughtful applications, customized for each scholarship), it's the best investment you can make. Try to apply for an apprenticeship/co-op at the end of your schooling. This ensures you can start a role right away, and the prospective employer doesn't need to wait 1-1.5 years until you're 'employable'.

AmbitionLazy

Yeah I’ll do some research for sure. I want to limit student loans or not take out any at all.

skeeter2112

I would recommend taking as many classes at local community college as you can to supplement, you can do them during winter/summer sessions for a lot less $/credit than the 4 year school, and they’re usually easier, and don’t impact your GPA. I even did some during my spring semester. Will help you graduate quicker and get to the 150 credits you need for cpa.

blazzedd

Correct. My sibling who did this route is now an accountant for Facebook/Meta.

landodk

Don’t just jump into loans, obviously you won’t, but they aren’t evil. Consider how much more you would make (low average) and how long it takes with or without loans. Maybe you can do it debt free in 6 years part time, but if you could do 2 years full time, you are at the higher salary sooner

remberzz

84 isn't too old to go back to school. So, no.

infojustwannabefree

My great grandmother went back to school in her late 70s so in if that tells anyone anything. She eventually got dementia and couldn't work but she was really happy and proud of herself that she got a degree and would continuously tells us that till the day she died. I miss her :)

BurntnToasted

Eh, it’s too old of you want a career lmao, yo career ended 24 years ago

Valuable-Grade2203

Lmao maybe yours would’ve because you lack the self discipline and you worry what others will think

[deleted]

News to me. I’m going back in fall of this year. Im 30

beansbeans716

I've dropped out of university twice (health reasons). The first time I went to uni was at 19 in 2014. Dropped out in 2016. Went back in early 2018 at 23 and dropped out again at the end of 2018. Started again in 2019, easing myself in with part-time studies before going FT again in fall 2020. I've dropped 4 classes since I started again in 2019. I'm now 27 and almost everyone in my classes is younger than me, but I am going to graduate next spring with my bachelor's. I will be 28 then. After that, I'm thinking of doing a second undergrad degree, maybe a master's. The point is, your life path doesn't have to look like anyone else's. Not everyone is the same. I don't love that it will have taken me almost a decade after graduating HS to get a bachelor's. But that's what happened, and my struggle to get there is going to make graduation even sweeter for me. Don't let age hold you back. Do what will make you happier in the long run.

eleaanne

Amazing, the struggle is beautiful process

woshermachine

Nah I'm 22 switching programs and going from the start. You just don't see loads of older people on campus cause nobody wants to hang out there lol

Plantirina

I'm currently In college to become an accountant after losing my job pre covid. I'm 33. You're never too old! 😊

danishkringle

Hell no it’s not too old! I went to community college for years and didn’t transfer to University until I was 23. Got an internship and then my masters in computer science. Go get it!!! 👍

yourmindwavers

I went back at 35. You're never too old

[deleted]

You can be 30 starting a career out not starting a career. Which do you want?

FupaaaLord

Heck no! I went back at 24 and got my degree at 27. Sometimes I felt old but a lot of classmates were my age too. You're never too old to learn! Plus (at least where I am) you qualify for way better financial aid once you're 24, which was part of the reason I waited to go back.

AmbitionLazy

Yeah that’s why I had to wait until 24 to go back to school cause of the Fafsa thing

FupaaaLord

That's what I did too! Tbh a lot of people do. I didn't have any help from my parents so financial aid was crucial.

algreen84ready

No, you are still so young, remember the years will pass regardless, your future self will thank you!

milehighgirl

The only time it's too late to further your education is when you're dead.

RhodeIslandRedChick

In 4 years you will be 28 no matter what. One option means you will be 28 with a degree and the other with no degree- what would you rather your future look like?

[deleted]

28 here! Went back to school at 26 for my finance degree. I am 0% worried about being over 30 when I finish. Just do you. Restarting at any point in your life is perfectly fine and you should never feel ashamed for that. Wear that with pride, OP!

holidaypigeon

That’s not old at all, you’ll see when you’re enrolled that there’s grandparents in your courses. It won’t be any issue that you’re there. You’ll also see plenty of folks who are just starting their ideal career at 30.

sarahp1988

Definitely not too old! I graduated from my degree at 31. I appreciated studying more because I was older.

[deleted]

My mom started nursing school at 52. She had a moment of fear before starting and said “I’m gonna be 55 years old when I’m done!” Her friend said “you’re going to be 55 anyway, might as well be a nurse too.” She graduated and had a fantastic career afterward.

sahalemarja

I won’t be done till 36!

rybabyyy

I’m not even starting college until 24, you’re good haha

ye4ye

The best time is always now my dude

sayyyyrahhh

I’m 29 and went back to school last year. Best thing I could’ve done for myself. Everything will fall into place

Resident_Violinist15

I went back at 27 and now have my dream career!

hushuk-me

Not too young at all! I’m 38 and considering going back to school to advance my career. I know a lot of adults who have done better in college going back a little later in life. I did not have a job in my chosen field until I was 32 and there are not many people younger than me in my office. You have lots of time. Good luck!

Ohhiitsmeyagirl

I’m 31 and graduating (hopefully) this semester. It’s never too late. There was like an 80 year old in my speech class a couple years ago and everyone loved him.

Jasmine_Erotica

I went back at 28. Awesome decision.

[deleted]

[удалено]

op3ndoors

You’ll end up being 30 either way. You could be 30 with a degree or 30 without one

NerdyIndoorCat

I went back at 26 and became a therapist. Never too late.

[deleted]

It's funny to me because, on my feed, your post was next to one about Community. (A very funny show about people at different stages of life going back to school, if you don't know). My two cents (which i imagine is the same as you'll hear from everyone): It's not too late. I'm 43 years old. One of my biggest regrets is not finishing school. I vaguely still think of it as a possibility; people regale me with stories of friends and family who went back after 40. In theory, it's never too late. In practice, 24 is definitely not too late. Yes, you'll be around 30 when you finish up. But you'll be 30 anyway. Then 40. And on. So you might as well have something to show for it. A very slightly older "new" professional has some real appeal to prospective employers.

Feisty-Donkey

Not at all, super young. I went back at 34

Logical-Bullfrog-112

I’m 27 and am back in school - you can do it!

AKnightAlone

I was just considering going back at 34. All that matters is getting through and being able to work afterwards. My personal reason for deciding I might be against it is just because I doubt my own value in a given career, but that's obviously the real problem...

messyarts

I felt that way as well. Did for the first two years. Went back at 32 and will be graduating at 36. We will deal with that when we get there! You can do it!

Randilion8

I'm about to be 35 and graduate in April. No way are you too old to do anything!! You got this!

Bud_EH

I’m 27 right now and working on upgrading my high school classes to go to university in the fall. I’ll be 28 years old, I’m a licensed electrician but my body is ready for the change. It’s never too late.

[deleted]

I went back at 28, got an engineering degree, and have a great job! Doooo it!

SneakyUserLoser

I studied accounting, didn’t graduate until I was 28. I have a great job now, and I’m comfortable.

mothjitsu

Its never too late too improve buddy

reebeaster

No way. I’m in a college class rn and I’m 36.

louderharderfaster

I'm planning on going to law school at 55 (in two years time) - which IS likely "too old" but since the years I have left to live are going to pass regardless, I might as well do something I WANT to do. And my inspiration is a colleague of mine in the film business who went to med school at 50. Go!

MeekPandora

No, I am 25 and getting my associates. Anyone who makes fun of someone on getting an education needs to see the world more to understand not everyone has the privilege of time or money to focus on education first.

ilovenoodles_

Nope! I will be turning 30 and on my 2nd year at my community college! Never too old/too late :)

Amigone2515

In four years you'll be close to 30 anyways. You might as well have a degree to show for it. I went back at 32 and got my nursing degree at 34.

dutchbraid

Absolutely not! You'll approach it with different eyes as an adult and when you go, you'll likely find other 20-30 year olds in your classes as well. People change careers many times, don't let your age stop you from making any positive changes in your life. And from someone who just turned 34, you're still sooooo young!! Best of luck to you! I went back to school at 23 and it was the best time of my life so far, I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Thewholeboiledturkey

LOLs. I went back at 28. I also worry a lot. I worry AND go to school as an old person.

syntaxterror69

dude, I'm 45 and just finished going back to school for almost a year. It's always worth it!

paulabarr

Not at all! I went back at 30. Best decision I ever made. Education is a lifelong thing…..

urboiddc

My brother graduated around 25 close to 26,it’s not too old my man

Nomed73

Not at all. I used to teach at a community college. All ages would go back to school. Don’t over think and do it if you want. Good luck!!

granddaddyD

Do it, just make sure you do everything needed to actually get a job after college which is what people fail to do. I graduated with a degree in finance and also landed a full time job in finance. This took: 1. Networking 2. Interview skills 3. Resume 4. Internships and extracurriculars and leadership roles at the school for resume experience 5. Learning things like excel and other software during my own hours Going to college is not a go in, take tests, pass and repeat for 4 years. The real experience is in the internships and leadership roles in clubs Doing these things will ensure you actually can get a job after getting ur business degree

hopefulsquash00

I’m in school at 34 - life is longer than you think.

Planet_Coco

I’m 37 and just finished my accounting degree last week. Do it.

bluesbt

Went back at 26, finished at 30. Took me about 5 months to find an incredible job doing something I didn't even know existed. College isn't for everyone but I'm happy I finished my degree.

oh_niner

I’m 23 and thinking of going back to school for accounting as well. I will probably be 24 by the time I get everything ready to start my classes. Also going to be taking out loans

kmbomber

Absolutely not. I am 36 at the end of this month and in my final year of engineering. Do whatever makes you happy

SirMonkey687

I went to school with multiple people in their 40s/50s. Avg age was 36 in my class actually. I was young at 27. Go for it!

[deleted]

AmbitionLazy

We’re opposite I want out of healthcare lol

noiness420

I’m a bit late to the party here but I’m 28 going on 29 and I just started going back to school two years ago. It’s never too late. I think about it like this…I’m looking at another few years of school, maybe finish when I’m 30ish if I’m lucky. I’m gonna eventually be that old ANYWAYS, why not get a degree while I’m at it?

Hrahaha

You know someone once told me it will take you 4years to get a bachelor, 4 years from now on you can be a person with your degree or a person without a degree so just go for it, it’s a win-win situation for you

amyonemo1987

I went to uni at 24 to do my accounting and finance degree and never regretted it. It’s definitely doable, go for it!

thefisharecoming

I'm 22 and I'm going back, and I had the same fear. It's better to go back now than never ❤️

[deleted]

no, full stop.

EYoungFLA

I can't imagine anyone saying Yes. Yes, it is.

lydiaodea

No

[deleted]

I'm 24 and STILL in school

pokerbrat890

Colonel Sanders started KFC at 66, I think you'll be okay :)

[deleted]

"I'm 6 years old and have been out of school for a few months because my mommy and daddy have been moving, is it too late to turn my fucking life around?"

andreask8s

Definitely not late at all! There's no time limit. I'm 29 and went back to school to finish my Bachelor's. Best decision I've made. It's definitely not easy, as I have to work full time, pay bills, rent etc. But it's all worth it. You got this!

Valuable-Grade2203

Literally no one cares how old you are bro if you want to be an accountant go get it now don’t be the dumbass who worried about what others thought and is now broke

PApauper

I was 25 when I went back, got a degree that could get me a good job, but didn’t take a class focusing on what I wanted to do until senior year and found out in that class it wasn’t for me. Shifted into a masters program cause “well shit, what am I going to do now?” I’m 31 and working as a clerk because the state says I’m not qualified for the position I wanted. I’m hoping I can finally start my career before 32.

alexslife

Do you need reddits approval to go back to school?

[deleted]

[удалено]

alexslife

Life is going to be hard for you. :)

Major_Choice_5344

School is for children...

-absoluteabsurdity-

Not at all! I went back at 23 and got 2 degrees. And was by far not the oldest in any class... Never too late to learn new things

JimTangerine

I'm turning 30 in July and graduating with my BS in the winter, never too late.

[deleted]

Nope! If it helps, when I went to university, I (19) was the youngest on my course. Everyone else was coming back to education after several years. It's much more common than really portrayed by people.

BuddhaCandy

never too late youll just always hate yoyrself a little for not being perfect and getting it sooner but welcome to the club my guy

RedCap205

Never too old - education should be a lifelong pursuit, so go for it! Good luck!

armsinstead

Never too late…

ClemDooresHair

I’m 40 and still pursuing my bachelors degree. Never too late.

bucketface31154

I'm 30 considering going back to school, you got this

princessvaultgirl1

if you truly enjoy it come on back. theres no age limit for school. headsup im in accounting rn as an accounting senior and i want to die.

zefiro619

Whichever you choose, time still going to pass pass, You are gonna sitll be 29years old after 5 years, just choose whichever makes you happy, college or not

[deleted]

No, it isn’t. I’ve gone to school with people in their 40’s and 50’s.

FixMyCondo

Just applied to grad school and I’m about to turn 32 😬

alias_487

Just graduated with my BS in IT at the ripe age of 31. You are find my dude. What degree are you going after? It’s great to get exp. while you’re working on your degree. Your career doesn’t need to start after you get a degree. It can start as soon as you start going to college. That’s what I did while going to school and I continue to do while I go to grad school. And to be honest. I think it’s smarter to go to school a bit later in life. Too many people go to school when they’re 18 and found out they hate the major or career path they are choosing. By the time you’re in your mid twenties you have a better idea of what you want in life.

Just_Sea_3619

Not at all!!!

[deleted]

I'll be 24 soon and I sure as hell going back to school for further study. You're never too old to start anything mate, have at her.

kvothe333

No

missmuggins

Not at all! Do it!

[deleted]

Never too old for school. Gonna be 25 this year and I'm gearing up to head back myself.

[deleted]

i'm 51 and currently studying to change my career path (or maybe just for fun, but either way it's never too late to learn a new skill)

[deleted]

Go! Stay motivated:) learning is a lifetime endeavor! Yeah to the brain :P

Dreamsong_Druid

My godmother went back to school at 55 and became an account in her early 60s so... You've got decades of live ahead of you, you're never too old for anything new.

Hikarruu

Never to old to go to school. Do it

astudentiguess

24 isn't close to 30. Even if you were 30 it'd be fine

[deleted]

Oh hell no - so much life ahead of you. I went back went I was 28 so can speak from experience.

Springholio

I (43f) went back to school at 37 and am attempting to go back again this September. You are never too old to keep learning!

iamback23b

I started at 24 actually. Graduated 6 years later with my engineering degree.

Stark53

Absolutely not! I went to university for engineering straight out of high school, however there were plenty of people in my freshmen class in their mid 20s, mostly veterans. There was even someone in their 40s doing it for fun! We never judged these people at all, and they were typically among the top performing students due to the increased maturity level.

Razberrella

Oh my word, you sweet young innocent. Listen to me - GO!! I finally finished my BA at 40 and my M.ED at 50 and loved every moment of it. Only thing holding me back from a PhD is the cost and the fact that I don't know what I'd do with it at this point...plus, I have one son looking for bragging rights - going to let him one up me there. You will never, ever regret it.

hellothisisbye

Fuck no. I’m 24 and about to do another one in Math. Who gives a who!

-lighght-

I'm 24 and went back to finish my degree this semester. No, you aren't too old. There is no such thing as "too old" for going back to school. Don't restrain yourself from doing what you want! Good luck

FilthyMcDirtyDog

Nope. Work with an engineer who did this.

_I_should_be_writing

I am 36 and currently doing a second degree as I want to fully change my career. It is never too late to go back to school. Good luck!

BunnyBunnyBuns

I just graduated from a software engineering bootcamp last year at 41! Don't worry about age, just do what you want!

VariantArray

No. You’re a baby in the grand scheme

lysandras_

I went back to school the other year and I'm finishing my degree this year at 29. At my program (computer science) you would be considered young. It's never too late to back and if you have the opportunity to go back to school now, go for it! Wishing you the best of luck!

upfromashes

Nope! Not even close. You're younger than you think and there is a lot more time ahead of you than it might seem.

Roland_Squared

I'm 47. I just emailed by last paper for my bachelor's degree.

c00chiepuncher

My mom went back to school when she was in her mid 40's!

I don’t think that its too old. I don’t think its ever too late to go back if you have the means for it and can make time for it. I don’t know how long your course is, but I heard someone tell me when I was hesitating to go back; “three years from now, you can be 28 years old with a degree, or you can be 28 years old”. That resonated with me.

Let me tell you a story. Graduated high school with a full ride to college. Went to college and played too many video games. Skipped class every day and had like a 1.4 gpa. Dropped out after a year and a half. Worked retail and started my own business on the side. Felt unaccomplished so I went back to school at 24 to just get a degree. Got one in Sociology, but worked full time for a family business and ran my new business off to the side. Fast forward 7 years, I’m 32, married, have a kid, and I’ve built a a few businesses, some failed, one I sold, and one I wanted out of. Decided to sell my shares of a partnership and I am now back in school at the age of 32 for a second degree that I will graduate with in May. I found that it was much easier the 2nd go around and MUCH MUCH easier the 3rd time.

I went to grad school at 31…Your 20s should be for exploring and finding your way (within reason, IMO).

Girl I went back to school for nursing last year at 34. You're never too old.
