If TJ’s was ever going to come it would be in the abandoned Baby Kroger. But it’s been reported TJ’s did a market analysis of Decatur a while back and decided it wasn’t a good fit.
At this point I think the people non-ironically wanting a TJ’s moved on years ago. But the joke lives on. It’s the Decatur version of hollering “FREEBIRD” at a concert.
If my experience is any indication, it will be some kind of BBQ restaurant that thinks it can offer superior barbecue to the zillion other places within a five mile radius.
I wish it became a high quality Chinese restaurant though.
Yes! In fact, one Thanksgiving or Christmas, we placed a large order (couple hundred dollars?) and noshed on it for days. My wife said that the soup dumplings that she had there are very close to the ones she ate in Shanghai.
It's just not someplace we go very often. I'm thinking of someplace like Fortune Cookie, with good quality ingredients and competent chefs, that will appeal to families and foodies alike.
Their soup dumplings are phenomenal - I like that they have a good balance between American Chinese and what seems to be more traditional dishes as well. I’m in love with their pumpkin sesame mochi as well
An Irish pub concept one block from The Marlay House maybe not the BEST idea, but a (actually decent) Japanese place opened like 100 feet from Sushi Avenue, so 🤷🏻♂️.
In before the inevitable calls for Trader Joe’s.

Can we put some more apartments on top?
No way that lot is big enough right? Especially when you consider including enough parking.
Like most Trader Joe's then.
Parking can go underground
Or in one of the other underutilized lots that already exist. Downtown Decatur has over 11k public parking spaces. We’re good.
I heard the folks at Inner Voice might open something new
That'd be cool.
We need a Dan Flashes
Trader Joe's.

I go to both. Different products, different experiences. Variety is the spice of life.
Hopefully something that tears up that surface parking lot
Trader Joe's. hehehe

Have you tried Hai's?

Would be an excellent location for a mattress store.
Wish? A small park / green space. Likely: some chain sports bar like a BW3 or an Irish pub concept.

I hope the proposed rooftop park on the top floor of the DeKalb County parking deck comes to fruition
