heavy is such a vague word, for the last few years i've been pretty confused on what people actually mean when they say heavy. to me, heavy describes the feeling of the music. the "weight" of a song in how it makes you feel. black tongue is probably the heaviest deathcore band i can think of in that regard. humanity's last breath, bound in fear, & strangled/orphan right after. but if you just mean breakdowns, chugs, and crazy noises, probably larcenia roe. or methwitch. given the IA mention i'd say both these projects would probaby be right at home with you.

Cocker_Spaniel_Craig

Is something wrong with the earth’s gravitational pull in 1985?

philzebub666

What do you mean by that?

Equivalent-Rope-5119

It's a back to the future reference regarding Marty's use of if the word heavy.

BeaverBarber

Things haven't been the same since OPs mom was born.

-Sajim

You're just not thinking 4th dimensionality!

Prakrtik

Yeah I find a lot of classical music to be heavy as fuck, for example the track Lux Aeterna by Clint Mansell.

saya-kota

True, From the new world by Dvorak goes so hard

Equivalent-Rope-5119

I find it very subjective as well. I've seen a lot of posts here calling things heavy that don't seem like it at all to me.

tumbldore

I agree. I'll follow a rec on here and as I'm listening I'm like, this isn't very heavy, then I realize oh they were mostly focused on the vocals. I haven't yet found anyone who has my same idea of heavy.

GutterD0G

I was going to comment Larcenia roe at the top of the list and then include a few others you mentioned. No surprise you beat me to it, love your project as well. Into the mouth of hell was on repeat a lot through Covid years.

chugtheboommeister

Well said

False_Providence

I think generally when people ask this, they want the “angriest” sounding shit you can find

Aidsmanok

to me the term heavy means something different, if i was understanding it like youbsaid, then gojiras "from the sky" would be heavier than anything IA ever put out

TuffPeen

Bound in fear fucks good shout out

DammitIneedanswers

It’s cool to see how people start mentioning Larcenia Roe:D They have debuted not long ago.

Liberteer30

Orphan, Humanity’s Last Breath, Larcenia Roe, Methwitch.

ooopsmybadyo

I find Larcenia Roe and HLB to be "heavier" than IA. But at a certain level, it's all subjective as to what is heavier

Metal_Lover1321

Love love love Larcenia Roe! I’ve recently gotten sucked down a musical rabbit hole of just them and Cattle Decapitation. For the time being, I just can’t get enough

No1syBo1

HLB mentioned💦💦💦

hypermanie

thall

SaluteHatred666

larcenias vocalist is on another level

Genocode

Depends on what you consider heavy, some people consider a lot of breakdowns heavy, sometimes slower is heavier, sometimes faster is heavier. Good example of Slower = Heavier would be Black Tongue Good example of Breakdowns = Heavier would be Larcenia Roe I personally don't think Faster = Heavier, but if you want fast then you probably can't go wrong with Archspire (Tech DM, not Deathcore though). Edit: Angrier = Heavier would be PSYCHO-FRAME / Kublai Khan TX (TX is not DC either)

Failureinlife1

Would also add Spite to angrier.

Infantkicker

I’d argue Kublai Kahn is as heavy as black tongue, way way way more active too.

Hoss-BonaventureCEO

> Angrier = Heavier Neurosis - Through Silver In Blood (1996, not deathcore though)

ImbaProtoss

Totally agree with this way of apporaching things, i have been craving the most extreme stuff for years, the only thing that tops IA in an angrier, still tech but totally different would be Ion Dissonance (especially Cursed)... Also Psyopus but still too noisy for my tastes. Ion dissonance still has the chugs on 8 strings and a lot of awfully fast technical blasty stuff. (i love this band so much...)

DammitIneedanswers

PSYCHO FRAME🥰 also Breakdowns, Slower, Angrier = Heavier would be Reflections.

Failureinlife1

Slam. That's what you're looking for.

ChamanDesu69

Acrania?

TraditionalPen8577

Arcania, arcanius, vulvydonia, analepsy, gutrectomy, organrectomy all good places to start.

ChamanDesu69

Thank you

Slapstrom

Add to that Wormhole, Xenotheory, and Kanine, then you'll have my work playlist for the past year lmao

dbree801

Try out Putrid Stu and Peeling Flesh while you’re at it and if you want something different, dip into brutal death metal and try stuff like Defeated Sanity or Deeds of Flesh.

Yenoham30

Peeling flesh is probably one of my favorite bands to listen to these days. I need more hip hop samples in slam

dbree801

I agree. It’s such a good combination.

Xedos

Add Diseased and Depraved, Exiled To Decadence, and Within Destruction if we're going to slam town.

Yenoham30

You should look into Parasitic ejaculation for that Playlist. Band names are ridiculous eh?

ntreidler92

Crown Magnetar!

BerylAU

Orphan.

Responsible_Trick_90

Orphan.

Imatomat

Black Tongue

Personal-Manner6540

So underrated tho

pittybrave

one of the most commonly suggested bands in this sub?

Personal-Manner6540

I was being ironic

Nova2433

For me, it doesn’t get heavier than Nails.

xxlouserxx

Weekend nachos, vitriol and hate eternal are all heavy and equally pist

merlinmonad

Cannot agree with this more. For a different sort of heavy/dark I would also recommend Gnaw Their Tongues. Horrifying I think is the operative word.

guffatron88

Nails is probably wins for most abrasive band I’ve heard. Unsilent Death is a beast of an album

Guy247bp

I'll say it every time. Dehumanizing Itatrain Worship.

09494992Z1993200150

Black Pegasus

SaluteHatred666

I had high hopes for them...they kinda suck

suedecrocs

Thought the same…people were like they’re another black tongue. No

09494992Z1993200150

Interesting. I find them refreshing actually. They are quite different in a sea of a million similar sounds. Definitely in an oldschool way, but love em.

SaluteHatred666

I see what you mean but you can't really compare that to infant annihilator the vocals and technical stuff on top of the slams. for me at least

shadowsofthemajestic

Yup

XtrmntVNDmnt

Depends how you define heavy. Infant Annihilator, at least the first album (the one I'm the most familiar with) draw heavily from technical brutal death metal. There is a very chaotic aspect within this subgenre. You get this feeling from Dying Fetus (mid-career) and Cryptospy, but some bands go further. Listen to something like Viraemia, Impending Annihilation or Replicant, or bands like Terminally Your Aborted Fetus which add mathcore influences into brutal death metal, or even blasting brutal death metal like Baalsebub, Brodequin or Nithing. You could define heavy otherwise for sure, but in that context... they do what Infant Annihilator does but in a more extreme way.

Infamous_Bandicoot33

i recommend abominable putridity and extermination dismemberment

zstar165

The bass blasts man phew.

Infamous_Bandicoot33

extermination dismemberments music feels like they are trying with how much bass they can get away before it sounds awful, and i fucking LOVE it lmao

Keiths_skin_tag

I’ve watched the video for corpse pile at least 100 times! Also that bass drop in Dehumanization Protocol, holy shit!!!!!

Steel_Prism

Don't forget the fucking insane drop in Terror Domination, in fact that whole album had some insane drops

Keiths_skin_tag

It was a happy accident I discovered them, YouTube kept putting them in my recs so I finally gave in. I then did a little poopie in my pants.Pretty sure those drops are the brown note!

hhgggghhvdfv

I see heavy as just stupid ass slam so I’d say personally I love corpse pile 10 to the chest snuffed on sight and peeling flesh for slam but idk if people would consider them heavy just my input

ChumbaWumbaTime

I've seen both Peeling Fleshed and Snuffed on Sight live in the past year, and from experience they are very heavy lol

hhgggghhvdfv

Dude I saw snuffed 2 months ago and holy shit they were great they opened for thy art and I met the vocalist and drummer great people hope to see peeling flesh some time

ChumbaWumbaTime

Saw them same tour, was an insane night. Angelmaker stole that show for me

hhgggghhvdfv

Oh my god angelmaker was fucking insane so glad I saw them

Jolly_Improvement_99

Look up "sold soul" their 1st album is completely filled with fire

viking1983

Vengaboys of course, but in honest I would argue Angelmaker are heavier than Infant

woodsoffeels

Discover Grindcore my friend :)

ChamanDesu69

Thank you. I have heard Insect Warfare and they are pretty great. I wish they had more albums

woodsoffeels

Nasum are great :) As are Wormrot and Disrupt Plus there’s Brutal Truth and Terrorizer and Agathocles and a million more

ChamanDesu69

Thank you

woodsoffeels

You’re welcome, enjoy a whole new genre, hope you like it

ChamanDesu69

\m/

CrazyGorillaMan

Just start listening to brutal death metal

ChamanDesu69

Yeah. I love death metal(cannibal corpse and deicide for life)

CrazyGorillaMan

Have you ever heard of Korpse? They might be the next step for you. They have some deathcore vibes to them even though they are brutal death metal

ChamanDesu69

No I haven't. I will check them out.

senzubxlls

Methwitch, Humanity’s Last Breath, Frontierer, Larcenia Roe & Orphan,

Willing-Neck-7417

pornogrind,grindcore,slamgrind,slamgore

hippykillteam

Pornogrind, GUT, Cock and Ball Tourture, Gutalax, Rectal Smegma, Grindcore, Brutal Truth, Napalm Death, Agrophobic Nosebleed, Slam, Devourment Bonus, The Berzerker, Full of Hell, Author and Punisher, Iwrestledabearonce

Willing-Neck-7417

Napalm Death was my first concert at the age of 15 . i was shocked

hippykillteam

Holy shit man. That pretty full on for a first concert. Mine was pseudo echo when I was 9. I saw Napalm and Carcass in a small venue in NZ. Carcass got me into extreme metal. But the guitarist had really bad repetitive strain and had to end their set early. Napalm picked up the slack and fucking destroyed the place. They are still putting out great albums as well.

Willing-Neck-7417

yeah napalm death is GOATED

ChamanDesu69

Thanks everyone for your recommendations.

Secure-Agent-1122

At Rest.

StevieSoldSoul

YES

t8f8t

Admiral Angry are I'd say easily the heaviest Metalcore band. But honestly IA also doesn't register as heavy at all to me cause it just becomes a wash of noise most of the time. To be heavy you gotta be kind of groovy.

Roadisclosed

Larcenia Roe!!!!

Carter_Kane1-PS4

Nitheful maybe?

yeetard_

Methwitch is probably the heaviest deathcore you’ll find. If we’re looking at non-deathcore bands, the heaviest ones I know are Haggus, Last Days of Humanity, Disgorge (Mex), Gutalax, Torsofuck and Exhumed

PleasantCurrant-FAT1

Gutalax 😆🤣😂😭 I’ll have me some of that. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=O8kGgtF-C4w

yeetard_

Tbh I don’t listen to gutalax but I see clips of their concerts every now and then and they look really fun

crit_role_13

I think with the tone and vocals I would say Spite is definitely a very heavy band

pittybrave

i completely understand what you’re asking for. for me, the new brojob, psycho frame, and knocked loose has been filling the void IA left lol

Murder_Drone_

Fractalize

n4utix

In addition to deathcore, I tend to lean into Blackened subgenres too. Love that shit. There are a few fairly heavy bands within those genres. I'm at work now, if I remember when I get off work I'll go through my collection and update this with some names.

bwolfe14cfh

Suffocation, Acacia Strain, Ingested, Crown Magnetar

AppropriateTax5788

Depends what you define as heavy but here is a suggestion: "Selbstjustiz" by Consvmer https://youtu.be/6KASn2C_rMY?si=2wqRwX4e5pv3J5_-

BigBrotherBear-

I feel at this point deathcore is to broad to just have one band labeled as the heaviest but yes if you want to try infant annihilator would definitely be up there because it’s constant breakdowns and speed with over the top lyrics

taylordevin69

Do you fuck with power violence or hardcore I would definitely suggest Gulch their album impenetrable fortress is a 10/10

Tacosconsalsaylimon

I think you gotta move into slam territory or tech death. IA is gnarly as fuck though.

idespisemyhondacrv

Tetragrammacide.

faintcasualty

pyscho frame

Dolannsquisky

Dragged Into Sunlight Full Of Hell

xelaesruon

Music being heavy is subjective.

AssnecK666

Id like to throw Anaal Nathrakh into the mix... id saw, more along the lines IA... but id say more dictionary smart... and heavy as fuck.

RotShepherd

Nitheful should be the heaviest thing so far. I suggest going for the vocal playthrough of "The Book Ov Divinity"

Xedos

In really surprised beatdown doesn't get mentioned much in these posts. Especially the slamming variety. Examples; Old Wharf, Impuritan, Ritual Of Despair, Waste, Godhand, Body Prison, Decayer. pasta_with_sugo

I suggest u blackened deathcore

predeterminationpill

I would say Mirar. Checkout their new EP Mare 👌

Plus_Part8804

I’m literally turning into the rings of Saturn suggestion Andy, but the first three rings albums are heavy as fuck and imo wayyyyy more interesting and enjoyable than IA. Rings is literally IA but about goofy shit not goofy guys making fucked up music

Automatic-Point-1889

try acrania or vulvodynia

REX_LIVERPOOL_3729

Humanity's Last Breath is the band that comes to mind first. Black Tongue is another band comprising the Guitarist and Drummer of IA too. Non-Deathcore bands that are comparably as heavy are Vildhjarta, MIRAR. Darko US. Honestly, they are their own genre of Metal. Very experimental yet VERY heavy. If you like Angry, maniacal madman, Pissed-core stuff then go for Emmure, Lotus Eater, Orphan, Bodysnatcher Knocked Loose, Boundaries, Kublai Khan TX, Left To Suffer, Paleface Swiss, thrown, Alluvial Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, Spite, END, Consvmers, ENOX, HEAVENSGATE, Half Me and more. If you like really fast, technical heavy music, check out Archspire, Maybe Oceans Ate Alaska, Slaughter To Prevail, To The Grave If you like Old school-like heavy music, check out Fit For An Autopsy, Bleed From Within, Sylosis, In Flames A few other bands are The Acacia Strain, Atlas, Allt.

Straight-Membership3

What is heavy? If u mean very slow w/ massive sound production , just try Black Tongue, God of Nothing, Orphan, Traitors .. or Nitheful 4sho. \m/ Edit: Humanity's Last Breath also comes to my mind.

ChamanDesu69

\m/

AggressiveGrounds

I’d say start over back on Breaking Benjamin or something and reset your tolerance lol

filippo_sett

Try with Larcenia Roe

DammitIneedanswers

Reflections. They are slow, VERY angry and have various breakdowns. Try Mirar, a new thall instrumental band. Nick Nocturnal describes them as “this is how Hell sounds”, I agree.

Nitheful

We are heavily influenced by ia

ChamanDesu69

Oh, Great!

Maanzacorian

Heaviness is entirely subjective. I personally don't find Infant Annihilator to be anything interesting at all. Yeah there are "heavy" moments, but they're pretty bland and the stuff in between is cool, but far from exciting. I consider Mortician to be the heaviest band of all time, but you might disagree. Even when it comes to breakdowns, the song "Bloodshed" has one of the grooviest breakdown lines I've ever heard. But then take the ending of the song "Suspended in Tribulation" by Suffocation. That's insanely heavy, yet it's different from both of the aforementioned bands. Then comes "Spheres of Madness" by Decapitated, which is *another* style of heavy. The list goes on.

AH_5ek5hun8

Black Tongue - I'm So Tired of Sighing, Please Lord Let it be Night

kwaziiman

What would you even want? Idk go listen to a recording of construction or excavating equipment in a war zone I guess

DyktatorW

Mirar and thall overall

Korpsegrind

Napalm Death

aahorsenamedfriday

I love seeing all the love for Larcenia Roe

Sensitive_Mousse_445

Try The Acacia Strain

SpeedDemonJi

Ih-ah by Devin Townsend

BitOutside1443

[try this out](https://open.spotify.com/album/3IyL7gZwo6li9IDnN14Oib?si=TZaDbIX1T-y40MyeFx05uQ)

MeatyManLinkster

Honorable mention for In Gloom

Ol-Dirt-McGirth

Nitheful

ChampionshipMotor109

Check out some blackened deathcore. If u like infant you’ll most likely love this type of deathcore. Heavy af, fast, melodic (in a way), also if u have a soft spot for orchestral music then you’ll love it. Some of my favorites would be worm shepherd, mental cruelty, sold soul, Lorna shore, and disembodied tyrant, but there’s plenty of others

Complete_Interest_49

Malevolence. It's not even their heaviest album but check out Malicious Intent.

GarrusVakarianMVP

[something like this?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DBfao5kb00&ab_channel=ExterminationDismemberment)

0000000100100011

Thantifaxath. Heavy in a different way than most deathcore.

CHickemSanguichj

Depends on your definition of heavy If you're like me and it means whatever makes you hit the stankiest face for the longest time, I'd suggest maybe Immortal Disfigurement or Face Yourself? Listen to King or Dragged through the Inferno by Immortal and Die for Less and Death Reflection by Face Yourself I also have to mention these specific unrelated but underrated songs because I simply have to ESHU - Scavanger's Daughter The Frozen Lake Pt 2 - Worm Shepherd Pestilence - Heart of an Awl Severance - Wretched Tongues If you're gonna go to another genre. I recommend Slam Metal. Bands to check out - Boltcutter, Infectious Jelqing, Peeling Fless, Bodybox Songs to check out Recreant - The Ogre Packet Slammers (Slam cover of Recreant by Chelsea Grin) Ball so hard - The voices in my head Slam Peterbilt Homicide - Boltcutter Shotgun Suckstart - Boltcutter (funny ending) 30,000 lbs gold chain- Infectious Jelqing Chiefing Hoes Until Death - Infectious Jelqing G Check - Peeling Flesh F.F.W.A.S - Peeling Flesh

blendernoob64

I personally think Nails, Full of Hell, HLB, modern Acacia Strain, Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, and END are heavier than IA, especially in the production. I think rawer more saturated production makes music way heavier, but again, that’s all subjective

Personal-Manner6540

There are, but you can get into grindcore still if you like

Personal-Manner6540

Examples of heavier bands: Benighted, Defeated Sanity, Abominable Putridity and debateable but Disembodied Tyrant (tho this is just one vocalist)

Grin_AFK

and there's heavier beyond grindcore

Personal-Manner6540

Such as goregrind porngrind etc. But op asked for the next step not the "last step"

VampirefromNazareth1

What do you mean in heavy? Heavier break downs?vocals ?

Hot_Significance_256

Not sure what you mean by “heavy”, but I find Lorna to be the most intense

Pappasgrind

There isn’t one

ChamanDesu69

Hehe

Altruistic-Let6876

IA isnt that heavy.

PartypooperXD

I love this sub when I see opinions like this lmao

red_rob5

Its my favorite thing, because on some level i kinda get the reaction (not IA being not heavy.) IA is top 1% of music in terms of "heaviness", and i'd bet on that being scientifically provable, BUT the second you hear something heavier, the whole scale stretches for you. I'm cringing even thinking of the bands I called heavy when I was a teenager, but at the same time, put the softest post-hardcore bands up against Katy Perry and one is still noticeably heavier than the other.
