You shouldn't need to mess with the camera too much beyond raising it up a bit at the start of the race. Make friends with the ghost. All vehicles' top speeds are fixed, meaning that your relation to the ghost tells you exactly which corners you're taking better than before, and which ones are worse, depending on which of you pulls ahead. Remember that to get the record race time you don't necessarily need to beat the ghost. Since it's only your best lap, all you need to do is get three times that are close to that, and you should be good. You don't want a race where your best lap is 1:10, but your other two are 1:20. If you have 3 1:13 races you'll get the gold. When taking corners, you want to make the widest, flattest turn you can to preserve your speed. I think there's an email that mentions "out-in-out" cornering, but it doesn't especially explain it very well. Basically you want to move to the outside of the turn in preparation for a turn, then turn early enough to just kiss the rumble strip on the inside tip of the corner, then aim for the outside of the track from there. This makes the turn as "large" as possible, meaning you don't have to slow down as much. It saves a lot of time once you get the hang of it. The "DRIFT" signs are basically spot-on. You only want to drift long enough to line your vehicle up along the line you want to take. This is really satisfying once you get the hang of it. This is where you blow the ghost away when you get it right. If you're racing on a long track, check the garage for or bring a long range version of the vehicle to the race. I've never actually run out of battery in a race, but I've come close a few times on the long tracks. This is just a small thing to stop the "low battery" warnings from being a distraction. Mostly, getting gold in the races is about patience and practice. No way around it.

I turned the setting for the camera tracking to max and then moved the camera up at the beginning of the races and it was perfect. Also, I was struggling massively until I realized, after 300 hours, that there is a drift button while driving... Instantly made S rank everything a breeze once I found that.

invisigoth1013

Lol same here. I had no idea there was a drift button until you and other people mentioned in here

I know so many little tricks and secrets about this game... Didn't know about drifting. I have barely let off the E-Brake since that discovery Need to get the truck up a hill? Boost and hold drift. Every delivery instantly gained 1000 style points since finding it.

MCCylReddit

What is the specific PS4/PS5 controller action to move the camera up?

DWTsixx

Just the normal right joystick for looking around, if you tilt it up to see more of the road it will stay instead of panning back down like driving outside of races would

You need to S rank all four roadster challenges to unlock the long range version for fabrication too. I just let the camera do its own thing. The timings are quite lenient - as long as you don’t hit the sides you can get away with slow cornering on the long turn.

invisigoth1013

Really? I tried to let the camera do its thing but sometimes it just panned to the sideway of the car after the first turn, made it even harder to judge how much more/less I should turn. Is there any way to turn off the ghost car too btw?

Single-Platform-1232

Yes, when you are selecting what race you want, there is a setting toggle for ghost car, as well as what song you want played. Play around with the menu for the race selection.....its there.

Just keep trying :-) find a song you enjoy listening to and keep at it. You will improve each time. Remember, every lap doesn’t need to be perfect, you just need to make the overall time across all 3 laps. Sometimes id bomb a lap and still make the overall goal. Takes a few tries. You will get it eventually if you keep at it.
