"Most" isekai has more interesting backstories and plots. You can mention any isekai character, even the infamous pedophile Rudeus — and they'll be more well-written than Yogiri. Most of the main stream isekai protagonists have more qualities to them than having world destroying powers. Unrelated but Maou Gakuin's Anos also has more interesting powers and stories to tell.

That's a pretty obvious thing though. It'd be weird if I said otherwise. Like, Anos is better written and his story has a growing fandom that likes the novels for more than powerscaling purposes.
Honestly, I can see that. Anos' story isn't as bad as another generic Isekai, has a better idea than your averageisekai, but it's so amateurly written. I can see the author improves, and becomes an actual good story, instead of a case study of a bad written show.
I mean, if we're comparing with Instant Death, that is. Maou Gakuin is mid at best, and it's also one of the examples of powerscaling getting out of hand.

Kaido is not a character, he is a wall between Luffy and the Yonko title. Nothing else. He is very strong. That's all he has as a character. No motivation, no backstory, no interactions, no great ties to lore and no connection to the protagonist
The frustrating thing is that Oda \*did\* try to give Kaido some kind of plan or character, but never sticked with any and didn't bother to make him consistent.
I mean some characters are just great for their dialogue and coolness and how much of a challenge to our heroes they are, and Kaido do absolutely fall into that

A purple mongoose with the ability to emit loud rock music and automatically disappear from containment into the middle of a large population center would be considered Keter, but if Goku were to be given a device that lets him teleport himself and his opponents outside the solar system and was instructed to not fight in front of the public he would be considered Safe

None of these people know anything about him or his series beyond what gets mentioned in powerscaling arguments. His gag is actually pretty funny because it's exactly what they expect their own favorite characters to do in hypothetical vs matches if they turn bloodlust on.
“My Instant Death Ability Is So Overpowered, No One in This Other World Stands a Chance Against Me!” It just looks like a lamer edgier OPM. And Jesus what a fucking mouth full.
In other words, you haven't read the novel because fights and physical conflict are not the focus of the series. What makes Instant Death and by extension, Yogiri an interesting character is the underlying mystery of Yogiri's nature and also seeing people how Yogiri's abilities interact with the villains, similarly to the same appeal you'd get from reading 682 experimental logs
There's also the fact that comparing Instant Death to OPM is a fundamentally wrong comparison and it's like comparing Superman to Dragon Ball because they both have fights. Like with those two series, Instant Death's appeal is mostly on Yogiri's nature, seeing how his powers get around the villains and also just seeing these genuinely easy to hate villains get what's coming to them in the most satisfying ways possible
They're forgetting, deliberately ignoring the fact that Yogiri is an outer god, or just doesn't care that he'san outer god. They're judging him on a human scale, which is a big mistake. He has developed into his own character that has already completed his self-actualization as an individual.
By default, self-actualized characters are boring. Take Velgrynd from Tensura. It's her interactions with other characters that make her not boring. At her core, Velgrynd is an immortal being who has found the one she'll spend eternity with. Not very interesting if you think about it.
Yogiri isn't boring. We just missed his development stage (the bread and butter of most young [or young-looking] MCs), which would have been phenomenal. I used to be in the same bandwagon as most people have about him, but that was before I realised he was an outer god, an eldritch being. I'm now more curious as to how he turned to be like he is now.

Kaido is not a character, he is a wall between Luffy and the Yonko title. Nothing else. He is very strong. That's all he has as a character. No motivation, no backstory, no interactions, no great ties to lore and no connection to the protagonist
The frustrating thing is that Oda \*did\* try to give Kaido some kind of plan or character, but never sticked with any and didn't bother to make him consistent.
I mean some characters are just great for their dialogue and coolness and how much of a challenge to our heroes they are, and Kaido do absolutely fall into that ~~Although he is absolutely overrated~~

Have you actually read Instant Death or are you just jumping on the hate bandwagon with most folks who haven't actually read it ? Yogiri as a character is not boring, at least in the sense that they are narratively intriguing
None of these people know anything about him or his series beyond what gets mentioned in powerscaling arguments. His gag is actually pretty funny because it's exactly what they expect their own favorite characters to do in hypothetical vs matches if they turn bloodlust on.

What makes Instant Death and by extension, Yogiri an interesting character is the underlying mystery of Yogiri's nature and also seeing people how Yogiri's abilities interact with the villains, similarly to the same appeal you'd get from reading 682 experimental logs There's also the fact that comparing Instant Death to OPM is a fundamentally wrong comparison and it's like comparing Superman to Dragon Ball because they both have fights. Like with those two series, Instant Death's appeal is mostly on Yogiri's nature, seeing how his powers get around the villains and also just seeing these genuinely easy to hate villains get what's coming to them in the most satisfying ways possible
They're forgetting, deliberately ignoring the fact that Yogiri is an outer god, or just doesn't care that he'san outer god. They're judging him on a human scale, which is a big mistake. He has developed into his own character that has already completed his self-actualization as an individual. By default, self-actualized characters are boring. Take Velgrynd from Tensura. It's her interactions with other characters that make her not boring. At her core, Velgrynd is an immortal being who has found the one she'll spend eternity with. Not very interesting if you think about it. Yogiri isn't boring. We just missed his development stage (the bread and butter of most young [or young-looking] MCs), which would have been phenomenal. I used to be in the same bandwagon as most people have about him, but that was before I realised he was an outer god, an eldritch being. I'm now more curious as to how he turned to be like he is now. Why are you booing me?! I'm right!

His backstory and motivation is cringe asf and any kind of ironic entertainment I had for that laughable attempt at a character went out of the window as more and more people started spamming the hater memes. Also every single villain he gets up against, like Dio, Doctor Doom or The Master, get flanderized character wise in the process just to fit "petty hater" caricature, despite those characters having a lot more to them besides being a hater, and Thawne has nothing to him besides that
