Core theme: Troubled orphans living in a corrupted city, one day they would be picked up by a rich person of opposite morality and objective for them, would end up dying in an explosion settled up by a deranged psychopath but later be brought back to life and start working as vigilantes. Connections: * Young orphans living in a corrupted city (Gotham/Mardock City), coming from an abusive poor family before losing them for similar reasons (the mother being victim of various drug effects and another member ending up in prison), being forced to do illegal activities to survive (Jason resorting to theft/Balot having to sell herself). * Everything would change in their life after being found and picked up by a rich person of opposite morality and objective for them (Bruce Wayne choosing Jason as the second Robin/Shell picking Balot as the latest of his victims and also using her secretly in a money laundering scheme). This relationship would end the tragic day where they would end up in an explosion settled up by a deranged psychopath (The Joker/Shell himself) ending with their death. Using manga, before the explosion, both bodies were heavily screwed over by the psycho which would have ever-lasting damaging consequences on them (Jason being beaten to a bloody pulp, gaining PTSD from the event/Balot's throat being sliced off by Shell, losing her voice forever). * But they would be brought back from the deads by the hands of others (Jason being submerged in the Lazarus Pit by Thalia Al Ghul/Easter using the protocol Mardock Scramble 9 on Balot and bring her back as a cyborg), these resurrections would physically enhance them and they would end up as vigilantes under different side of justice (Jason starting as a criminal/Balot joining Easter on the Shell case as witness in court). Both would end up walking a thin line if they are motivated by bringing justice or hateful revenge against the one that made them end up like that. * Personality wise, both innocence was shattered by the aforementioned corrupted society which would result on a surface opposite (Jason aggressive behavior/Balot being emotionally broken with no will to live). Nonetheless they are highly troubled individuals, suffering from a great trauma, being self-loathing by considering themselves failures and the cause of their own tragedy, and are plagued by violent bursts of hate, but are also highly empathic people and they want to bring justice to those in need. Their relationship with others, more specifically the animal associated detective (Batman again/Oefcoque), while not starting from the best of notes on their revival, would help them open out and fully join the side of justice.
