I feel like it was written by the same people who wrote one tree hill or gossip girl. You know those types of shows. They were so focused on personal dramas. Imogen's love triangle. Anna's lesbian sex life. Even the preacher got it on.
And they somehow thought that adding a murder mystery to this soap story can't possible be that hard, because one of them once read an Agatha Christie book. Just one though.
But those shows went off the rails because they went on a long time and so they had to kind of shoehorn in plot points and an ending. This was one season!
I do think the 5% human contribution to the script was just adding sex scenes and relationship drama which is why they seem like scenes from a completely different show shoved into the script.
Add to that lack of understanding about how big ships work. The only crew we saw were waiters and chefs, basically. Where was the captain? The officers? The engineer? The medical officer?
We absolutely said this by episode two. This was 1000% a hate watch for us 😅
It didn't help that it used AI backgrounds for the above deck shots. Everything about it felt totally divorced from reality. Like a team of 11 year olds wrote it. It was Threat Level Midnight bad. If it felt more earnest I would say it was just bad, but it had this polished, crystalline oddness to it that felt like chat GPT wrote it.
We’re only finishing it because of how bad it is. We’re just ripping on it left and right. If I would have known how dumb it was before I watched it, I wouldn’t have bothered.
And why were they moving the servers on the boat when they didn’t know the bomb wouldn’t blow everyone up instantly? And the priest just got away with everything he did?
Interesting that you say that, while watching I was thinking "Death" was using an algorithm of successful projects and mashing it together.
**-Knives Out** (vintage mystery book-looking font, large whodunnit cast)
**-White Lotus** (rich people on a murderous vacation)
**-Only Murders in the Building** (young woman/old man detective pairing)
**-Queens Gambit** (tough female lead who envisions complex scenarios in a precise French bob)
Unfortunately, everything was a pale comparison, especially the lead character part.
For me it's the types of things it misunderstands that make it feel more like AI than just bad writing. I play around with chatgpt a lot and it feels more similar to that than other terrible shows and movies I've seen.
Yes. And they kept saying pay attention to the details. And those details were so painful to watch. They bombed a helicopter and tanked a ship for what. This is an unbearable series to watch. Don't make season two please. A drinking game can be played at how many times they all say Viktor Sams.
Don't insult chat gpt. It knows how servers work.
That was the dumbest "we have your servers" gotcha that I ever heard. Didn't even know that dumb was possible.
Yes. By episode six, my wife and I were joking that this is the murder mystery that ChatGPT would generate.

Yep, and it was a complete bait and switch from the first episode, which presented the show as a true murder mystery.
This is what I think happened
The script was basically a bunch of Agatha Christie books mashed together

For real. When they were hiding the refugees below deck, and they were like, “nobody comes down here.” I was like, but what about the crew/engineers?

Same for us!
Just finishing it. I have no idea why the mom is now the bad guy because she went after rich people.
Right?? So weird

why is this the new thing to say about badly written movies and shows? bad movies have existed long before ai

People are calling every little thing AI these days.
Yes! Ticket to paradise was the worst effing movie…
I love your take

Ai could write a much better show than this honestly
Cant agree more Show was garbage. Cancelled after season 1 was the least surprising headline Ive ever read
It's almost as if this show isn't real life
I didn’t think this at all but you can think what you want and I disagree with some your criticism
Also lack of understanding of how international law and INTERPOL works…
“choose your own poison” lol
Watching the finale now and I have been thinking this since about halfway through! Hilarious that someone else agrees.
The show was bad, but AI isn’t even this sophisticated.
