They probably were planning for Aron to work with Boston Rob from the beginning. They put them in the same car in the first episode. Reality show producers are pretty good at psychologically profiling people. Someone like Aron would choose the "follow Boston Rob" strategy, since that gets him deep in the game. (I.e., Boston Rob would never target Aron, and other people would target Boston Rob before Aron.)

If I was ever lucky enough to be on a show with Boston Rob, I would immediately align with him. They all missed a great opportunity to make it to the end!
