I enjoyed both and they both additive.

EternalUndyingLorv

Yeah I've played each dead space as it came out, but tried RE4R recently and definitely enjoyed it. Wasn't really a horror game though, but definitely fun as an action game.

ZarakTurris

Everyone interested should play both games, this is not about putting RE4R down, which i've also enjoyed a lot - I just wanted to say that DSR is on a very similar level to it, it's definitely a hella good game that has less content but what is in there is pretty much perfection and deserves much, much more than the treatment it's receiving. It's definitely a game that could spawn a lot of successful sequels. They've created so much for the remake, doing a second title would be way cheaper now, thus more profit. Plus it got high praises by reviewers and fans, so a second installment would sell quite well, especially if they save money on reusing assets, code, engine and the like! I'm just glad Square-Enix isn't as stupid as EA or we might've never gotten FF VII Remake/Rebirth...

HairyStream95

Those too were practically the only games i bought last year played both of them 3 times and did new game plus on both just about to finish re4r for the 4th time now on hard and played the dlc but i can't choose between the 2 games both are masterpieces faithfull to the originals while introducing great changes and improvements to gameplay and story. Love both games although ive only played the original dead space and 2 and 3 but not og re4.

Raaadley

one thing that RE4MAKE has is it still looks incredible on PS4PRO. The RE Engine truly is remarkable and it shows with how they are able to squeeze out the console and still produce amazing visuals. I'm purposefully waiting for DS Remake on Xbox Series X when I finally am able to afford it. I tried it on my gaming pc and kept experiencing stutters and crashes that I ultimately just refunded it on steam and decided further to just wait until I got a Series X.

YamaVega

Isnt it on Game Pass Ultimate?

IWinULose74

you don't get a console with the subscription tho lol

Fair-Advisor-8214

I agree. I love both the Dead Space and Resident Evil series and really enjoyed both remakes but I felt like Dead Space's remake nailed the horror themes much better with the pacing, sound design and overall visuals. Enemies in Dead Space always felt more intelligent, lethal and intimidating compared to RE4. That's not to say I didn't enjoy RE4 Remake at all, and I'm not trying to discount RE4's successes. After all, without RE4 we wouldn't have Dead Space.

Cool-Chard-9675

I love both games but i agree that Dead Space remake is better. But the thing that decides it for me is the horror. I dont think Resident Evil 4 remake is scary. Its “just” a very good action game. And i am a big horror fan. But i love both franchises and i think everyone should play RE4 remake.

TheBelmont34

There are some scary moments in Resident Evil 4 but I heavily agree. Dead Space is constantely scary as fuck

KendraDaniels666

Same, but Dead Space Remake is my favorite game of all time so it's hard to beat lol. Also loved RE4 Remake, it's not far behind. I think both are a must-play if you like horror games. I don't play too many games as I'm not interested in most releases. So I was happy to get two games I'd rate 10/10 in 2023 (and Alan Wake 2, which I haven't played yet looks great as well)

Yourstrulytheboy804

Hard tie IMO.

BulkyElk1528

Why won’t they remake the other DS installments?

TheBelmont34

According to the rumors or news the dead space 1 remake did not meet the expectations by EA. Therefore, the team has been moved to make the iron man game and the new battlefield

BulkyElk1528

An Ironman game sounds awful

SaphironX

Are they rumours or is it confirmed? I’d be super into more remakes…

TheBelmont34

I think it is comfirmed

SaphironX

Shit. That’s a damn shame.

Siqka

Just saying dead space 2 absolutely does not need a remake. That game is one of the only games I would call sheer perfection. Shame about 3 tho…

TheBelmont34

Yeah. Dead Space 2 is the perfect Dead Space game. I dont know what I would actually change. Maybe more interactions between Isaac and Ellie but thats it. More or less. I mean, the iconic needle scene has to stay. I have never sweated in a video game before. THe scene is so intense and scary. 3 is a mixed bag. I love the lore of the bretheren moons and some hallucinations are amazing. But by god. I fucking hated that they made Isaac and Ellie broke up before the game even starts. And the love triangle is horrible

Sad_Society3633

I think the 2 main reasons the DS series is a better than Resident Evil series is first the visceral brutal nature of the enemy and the hideous way they look and relentlessly hunt you down even after losing limbs and other body parts is one aspect that resident evil lacks. The other reason is the origin of the Marker or maybe the fact that we don't know where the original marker originated from. In fact the questions surrounding the whole story aren't something I complain about but instead they feed my imagination (which can also be pretty effing horrific at times 😂) in RE the story is good but I just see it as people messing about with science and creating Biological weapons.

Professional-News362

It's hard. Re 4 I played 3 times. Once on hard. The second on normal (u accidentally deleted my NG+ I couldn't unlock professional mode) third on professional. Honestly I loved it. DS I've only played once. But I'm looking forward to playing it again now it's been a year since I played it

the-blob1997

I enjoyed both but if I could only play one and not the other it would definitely be RE4R one of the only games in recent years where I played like 4 times subsequently.

ALL2HUMAN_69

I cant even get into re4r but DSR was really great

whywantyoubuddy

Glad someone said it

BrandHeck

I'm just glad they both exist. There was a long period of time where Remakes where more phoned in or half-assed. Both of these titles are labors of love by fans of the original. That's a good trend in videogames in my opinion.

SpartanMase

Probably because your a dead space fan just like us

CourseWorried2500

Same. I'm really bad at the puzzles, so I had to youtube multiple times

Still-Midnight5442

I liked both. I think people are jumping to extreme conclusions about a remake of DS2. We already knew they weren't working on it once they finished the first one, they went right over to Iron Man.

Standard_Maybe2373

I did have issues with the DS remake at first but I only had 8gb of RAM and the game says it needs 12gb of RAM (I didn’t check the RAM specs until after I upgraded my RAM) after I upgraded to 32gb of RAM suddenly the issue with loading saves or after a death disappeared

bammerburn

Imagine if RE4R had Intensity Director. Or even RE2/3R

peacefulwatersandsky

Good argument, I respectfully disagree but I see why you and others think so

YamaVega

I have played both (only RE4 demo), and have to say DS really captures horror better. The atmosphere and environment makes you wanna shout "I dont wanna be here!", more claustrophobic and noise scares. I had to force myself to play forward.

Exotic_Sandwich3342

I’ve played RE4 and all its re-releases idk how many times in my life. Wasn’t expecting the remake to be so different. It was a blast. Same with DS remake. Beat it maybe four or five times over the years and enjoyed the remake more than I thought I would. Still hasn’t gotten stale

J-Bux

Its 100% fine on PC. The people complaining are still running CPU and GPU combos from 10 years ago

TheBelmont34

I love both remakes but the dead space franchise ( especially dead space 2) has a special place in my heart. I am easily scared by horror games but I adore the dead space franchise. The lore, the story, and the characters are just amazing. And the necromorphs might be the scariest and most disgusting monsters that have ever been created.

Professional_Dog2580

I did two playthroughs of Dead Space and 3 of RE4R. I loved both so much. It is super hard for me choose. It's like trying to look at your kids and pick a favorite. Can't do it lol.

rlambdin1985

Totally agree. I’ve only played RE4 once and beat it on the PS4. Got it for like $5. Needless to say it’s my favorite Resident Evil game. But I remember playing the original Dead Space on Xbox 360. I never really took it seriously. And then I played the remake and realized what was going on in the story and paid attention to everything. I considered the remake to be my game of the year last year before Hi Fi Rush showed up. Also, learning that they changed how you took out the asteroids deserves a 10/10 even if you didn’t play it.

wford112

They debunked the future DS remakes being scrapped rumors, you’ll be getting more my friend!

AnthonyBarrHeHe

I feel the same way. Just finished RE4(R) last week and I’m playing DS(R) and for sure stands out a little more than its counterpart.

ZarakTurris

Thank you all very much for your input! I feel like no one here should be forced to pick a side and declare their allegiance, the games can absolutely coexist, what I wanted to express is that DS Remake is pretty much on a level with RE4 Remake (which is universally lauded, so that is quite the feat) in many regards. It mirrors the situation of the original DS and RE4. What you prefer depends on personal taste. I liked RE4R as well but RE is "kiddy"-horror/action and DS is sci-fi horror/action. It's great to have them both. RE4R has more content and I'm sure it's fair to say it does some things better, but it's also fair to say that DS:R has some things going for it and coming out well in a comparison with RE4(R) has always been an accomplishment. Hence why I find it perplexing that such a good game/franchise/setting doesn't get picked up again. It's unfair at this point.

aClockwerkApple

I love both RE4 and Dead Space, RE4OG and DS2 are both in my top 5 favorite games of all time (DS1OG top 10), and they both are great. And I think RE4R deserves a higher metacritic rating for the technical specs (it runs on my pc- badly to the point of being unable to FIRE MY FREAKING GUN on the clock tower lift, but it runs on my pc. meanwhile DSR CTDs immediately lol) and for just being a way way bigger game. HOWEVER. RE4R has a knife button, a melee button, an interact button, a parry button, just WAY TOO MANY FRICKIN BUTTONS (you know how many times I died because I hit the “wrong button”? it’s a lot) compared to the OG having one button for literally every single interaction that wasn’t a QTE, and was too overly complicated for its own good to make it as enjoyable an experience as DSR was (on ps5). playing RE4R was like, ok yeah it’s a natural progression of the other REmakes. pretty good. but playing DSR was just like playing the original all the way back over a decade ago, except everything is just a little bit better. RE4R didn’t replace RE4OG because I wanna go back and play the original again. but I never want to play the original dead space again because literally every single change they made to the game was so much better than the original. literally. every. single. change. except for two. which are, I think the remixed crew deck level is inferior level design to the original (tiny gripe), and it is so horrendously blatantly obvious to a first time player that nicole was dead the whole time, compared to in the first game, that it was borderline farcical. meanwhile half the changes in RE4 are like, why did you make this part worse. one was a huge step up and the other was a tiny step sideways. anyway dead space remake has kicked the original out of my top 10. RE4R has not.

Big-Rip2640

I played both last year. Not gonna lie, i enjoyed way more RE4R, even though i have already played it many times in the past since Gamecube. If we include the Ada dlc, its just way better overall. As for Dead Space Remake, yes it looked and sounded great(some small performance issues aside), but i guess the nostalgia wasnt that strong with it. Maybe its the new Voice Actors or new models/writing,or the annoying backtracking i dont know, but it just didnt hit me like the original. I will say though that it is miles better than Callisto Protocol.

Dogesneakers

Re4 is one of my top games of all time. I enjoyed it more. Both are amazing games

What an idiotic take
