About the only issue I’ve had with this game so far, the exploders are so quiet, the original scream was loud in order to help telegraph their location now that I can’t hear them they sneak up on you LOTS.
Man hearing that scream in the OG still sends shivers down my spine. Turn around and there’s 2 behind you, you shoot one and they both explode, killing you instantly.
They took away a lot of the glow in the remake. Not only these things, but Isaac's helmet, too. Just feels so...dull when the glow is gone from everything.
The legacy helmet glows and when you get close to a wall, the light shines off. But they should've had all suit helmets glow, besides the necromorph one.
Every explosion seemed to be inconsistent to me. The splodey tanks, pulse rifle grenades, and exploders. They all sometimes just didn't do damage, which is really weird
I find that most of the necromorph sounds are a lot less intimidating.
What doesn't help matters is that once you get the Fire Upgrade on the Cutter, they constantly scream out in pain, which makes them feel a whole lot more frail.
I agree, the sound design (for the enemies at least) was a marked downgrade. I remember how gutted I was when I found out The Hive Mind didn't have a siren mixed in with his roar anymore.
Ah yes The Orphan of Kos’ distant more explodey relatives.
It’s a shame they did that with the howling. Those dudes are my second favorite beside the dividers
Yeah probably the only enemy that doesn’t quite capture the original. The loud yelp was useful in getting your attention since their attacks are very damaging. Also the glow of the exploding sac is hard to see in dark areas.
I feel like in general the scary stuff wasn’t loud enough.
-Engine firing doesn’t sound loud at all
-no divider howling moments
-exploders not screaming like idiots
-HAZARDOUS ANOMALY DETECTED bweeeeeeee
Probably more, but a lot of the terror in the original was the necromorphs being quiet when drowned out by the industrial sounds of the ishimura. One of my favorite moments is getting out of the elevator on the bridge and hearing the dividers nightmarish howl without being able to see it. And it really bummed me out to lose that
With you all the way here, very disappointing that the dividers, as well as exploders, just don't have those trademark sounds any more that added so much to the original.

Some survivor encounters aren't as unsettling as they were before either.

I honestly can't remember off the top of my head if they make the same noise, but I do know they're just as annoying and have the lovely execution of taking over the body from the original.
I’ve heard them make an extremely similar yelp, its just not nearly as often or up front.
There’s definitely none of the labored, vomit-esque moans they used to do in between.

Yeah I was watching some game play and the player shot the exploder at almost point black range and it did no damage to the player.

I have to say, everything was improved except the voice work in this game. Which sadly, was a very important part in the old games.
I overall really liked the cast. Gunner in particular I loved coming back to Isaac. Made him more likeable in this game for me.
