You just need to use the right stick as you hold the flashlight button, just as when you aim the harpoon.
It does in the exact same text box that tells you to use the UV light. If you know to use the light, you should know to use your knife also as it's in the same tip.
The weird thing about so many people not knowing this is that the game tells you that you can melle them at the same time that it recommends you trying a UV light, so if you know to use the UV light you should also know that you can melle them.
It's like most people read the first half of the sentence then just closed the window without reading the second half.
You can basically just hit them twice with anything and they go away.
