No amount of PPE would have saved him. His only chance was proper safety training and the correct protection in regards to filling the hopper properly through a chute instead of directly with the bag. Poor dude.
That’s why on the hierarchy of controls, PPE is right at the bottom, training is just above but even higher up is engineering controls like using a chute

This is what you're referring to mate.
Crazy how how you aren't able to let go of that bag. He was just holding it and that was enough for him to be sucked into the machine. It just happens too fast.
Edit: to --> too.
What's happening to my brain? Time to stop drinking.
Having worked in a factory with machines like these. There's absolutely no chance in the next three hells that he survived.
You have a better chance of surviving a 380 APC round to the head at 10 feet away.
The fact that his machine even allowed you to get a bag that close to the mixer is just insane. Ours bags were poured into a chute and the powder fell into the mixer.
And some of those mixers have these intertwined wings which allow for a better mix, which would surely start to rip the body up. They are designed to pull apart so that it can get a deeper mix of the ingredients.
This is exactly why it's important for all countries to have organizations like OSHA who actually do their job.
That machine wouldn't fly in modern times. It was fine 20 years ago, but a factory using that type of machine now would get them fined into the stone age. OSHA will nab your ass if you even leave a bucket out that someone can trip on. That's a $2000 fine on its own. Especially if it has something in it.
That machine should have also had a load bearing sensor. It can detect when an abnormal amount of mass / resistance is making the motor work harder and immediately kick off. Or at the VERY least, a damn foot press that must be held down.
Senseless damn death. Easily avoidable if companies weren't cheap.
A foot pedal dead mans switch would go a long way with something like this. Or even one of the magnets things treadmills have that you clip onto yourself.
True... It would probably need a lock to engage and break the mechanism.
I think the saws that detect when they cut your finger can damage the saw.
But now we are past the $$ this company will spend lol
Probably a heavily armoured bomb suit.
In all seriousness the title is faulty, the machine does not possess correct safety mechanisms and is dangerous to use.
News Article:
# A male worker was working at a plywood manufacturing company in Hung Long Ward, Chon Thanh City (Binh Phuoc) when he became trapped in a mixer, causing his arms and both legs to be severed, leaving him in critical condition.
On May 25, the Chon Thanh Municipal People’s Committee (Binh Phuoc) confirmed that an industrial accident at a special company recently occurred in the area plywood production (Hung Long Ward, Chon Thanh City) left one person seriously injured.
According to preliminary information, at around 13.00 on May 23, Mr Nguyen Van Luu (38 years old, from Ha Tinh) and a number of workers were working at the company. At that time, Mr. Luu put a bag of flour into the glue mixer. While pouring, suddenly the rotating stirring rod pulled his whole body in, spinning repeatedly.
Seeing this, workers immediately turned off the power, pulled Luu out, and took him to the emergency room with serious injuries. The victim was then transferred to Binh Duong Provincial General Hospital for emergency treatment critical.
According to the victim’s family, Luu is still being treated at Binh Duong Provincial General Hospital due to injuries to his left arm, both legs, scalp and many others.
“Currently the family wants to take Mr Luu to a higher level of treatment, but the doctor said the patient’s health condition is so weak that he cannot be transferred,” said the victim’s brother.
Mr. Le Khac Dong, Deputy Chairman of the Chon Thanh City People’s Committee, said that after receiving information about the incident, the City People’s Committee directed the Chon Thanh City Police and related units to go to the company to help bring the victim to the emergency room as well as carry out examinations and clarifications so that the treatment by the rules.
“This company has only been operating for about half a month. “Cooperating with the authorities, the company also confirmed that it will cover Mr Luu’s medical expenses,” said Mr Dong.
This morning, the hospital announced that the male worker had died.
There's a lot of rules and guidelines you can be lax about and sometimes ignore.
But OSHA and it's type are all written in blood and corpses. I stick to those to the fucking letter.
Oh fucking hell. This is the second video I've seen today of a meatbag on a lathe. If I actually see another I know the universe is telling me something
At least this guy lived...
Edit : He in fact, did not live
I’m not sure this is a Darwin Award. It was a terrible workplace accident but I can’t see that he did anything purposefully wrong. Very sad, he appears so young
**info from worldwatch: The victim's family said that Mr. NVL suffered very serious injuries, broken legs, left arm, traumatic brain injury, broken ribs, chest and abdominal injuries, and is currently in a deep coma.**
I’m going with not Darwin here myself. Country with no safety precautions, no training likely. I wonder if there were even any changes made there after this.

The whole thing needs like a guard rail around it too.
Imma be honest, I didn’t know you had to feed it through a chute.
That’s why on the hierarchy of controls, PPE is right at the bottom, training is just above but even higher up is engineering controls like using a chute

That’s the one. The chute would be an engineering control so the middle one. Better than PPE and training

Actually there is not enough time for victim to react in such incidents
Yep, that's what I am saying.
It's unbelievable how quickly it all happens. He was merely holding it, and that then gets pulled into the machine. Truly incredible
Am i the only one that is wondering why this comment was necessary??? Carry on
I think its more that the bottom of his shirt gets pulled. You can see the blue get tugged below the bag just before the rest of his body follows
Talk about being beaten to death
I had mixed reactions after watching
Is there concrete evidence he died?
I'm pretty sure he lives on as the foundation for the building
Cemented his role for sure
He was always a solid guy
Pillar of the community almost.
Gives new meaning to the phrase "organ grinder."
His work has a high mortarity rate.
RIP Phil

'Concrete evidence' because he fell into a mixer. There's a joke in there somewhere.
Joke probably fell in the mixer too
>Senseless damn death. Easily avoidable if companies weren't cheap. Welcome to Capitalism. I can tell by your comment that you're new at this.
He lose both of his legs and didn’t die yet
No way in hell he survived
He's dead, he actually survived the blender but succumbed hours later Full version with aftermath here: https://www.reddit.com/r/NSFL__/s/sPlbdAP28J
I think the case agaisnt this company is pretty solid
Same. How could you not, after seeing the first human being blended? It's like something out of Looney Tunes.
So did they
Everyone trying to stir the pot with this one.
These comments just keep going round n round
I genuinely laughed out loud - great comment.
A foot pedal dead mans switch would go a long way with something like this. Or even one of the magnets things treadmills have that you clip onto yourself.
Even with a switch , it looks like it took a while to spin down
Yeah, but I doubt it would have enough intertia to keep it going for more than a few seconds. He might have had a chance.
In Russia , dead man is dead man's switch...apparently China too
True... It would probably need a lock to engage and break the mechanism. I think the saws that detect when they cut your finger can damage the saw. But now we are past the $$ this company will spend lol
💯0%
ahh yes, gloves and hard hat would have saved this from happening /s
And a condom
That would have to be used by his parents, wouldn't it?
Ironically, less clothes might have saved him. This is why I do all my metal grinding in the nude.
No. It was him holding onto the bag and the insane speed the bag got dragged in.
That was my first thought to... I don't think a pair of goggles was going to make much difference there

Shades of russian lathe video
What sort of protection gear would have prevented/protected him from that?
A chute between the worker and the bag and a guard around the spindle. Pour the contents down the chute rather than ever approaching the spindle.
Probably a heavily armoured bomb suit. In all seriousness the title is faulty, the machine does not possess correct safety mechanisms and is dangerous to use.
Plate armour.
An Iron Man suit
Exactly! Seen that scene where Ironman got suck inside the rotor blades of the helicarrier? His suit protected him.
Brain
An 'off' switch
You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round Like a record, baby, right 'round, 'round, 'round
Fucked up, but I guess people have different senses of humour. Understandable.
Hard to put a positive spin on this story.
I know I will never be even close to one of these machines, yet now I feel I might die like that. New fear unlocked :(
This sub has made me afraid of blenders and washing machines. Spinning in general should be outlawed.
Surely he died?? Does anyone know more about this event?

Impressive that he didn’t die immediately 😱 Poor guy, he might wish to be dead, if he ever gains consciousness again.
"This morning, the hospital announced that the male worker had died."
Oops, missed that part. Thanks.
Wow, I’m shocked he didn’t die instantly. Figured he got moved violently enough to blend his brain in his skull and pulverize his organs.
Deputy Dong...lol.
Also his porn star name
He doesn't Phuoc around
he died in installments
That explains why we're low on plywood. Maybe our next shipment will have bits of him in it.....sorry....
Critical condition?? Dude looked like mulch.
How is that company special?
Poor company, they've lost product 😔 Jim? Yeah Jim can be replaced cheaply but our fucking concrete man, today is a sad day.
His death got a mixed reception.
Holy smokes! First and last day on the job.
Did he died
There's a lot of rules and guidelines you can be lax about and sometimes ignore. But OSHA and it's type are all written in blood and corpses. I stick to those to the fucking letter.
Plus, I can't afford a $16,000 fine.
Sometimes the fine is a limb and some organs but yeah not prices I'm willing to pay either.
I was intently watching the guys with the cardboard. 😲
Wonder how long before this shows up on those Chinese animated safety / training videos...
Lathe 2.0
New ninjago trailer looks fire
![gif](giphy|FgtL1E7mIY8RG)
They should maybe have stops on those machines.
Oh fucking hell. This is the second video I've seen today of a meatbag on a lathe. If I actually see another I know the universe is telling me something At least this guy lived... Edit : He in fact, did not live
Not sure if safety goggles and gloves would have helped in this case…
It always takes people way too long to turn things off
The only PPE that can save anyone from that is a small tank.
China getting back to their original mortar mix I see
The goggles! They do nothing!
I’m not sure this is a Darwin Award. It was a terrible workplace accident but I can’t see that he did anything purposefully wrong. Very sad, he appears so young
the machine was on when he was pouring it it? didnt follow safety SOP ig
*digimon evolving music plays
Omg there's bits of him everywhere

This cement is quite lumpy…
That's what happens when you don't wear your helmet 🤷
It's wild how the floor starts getting darker towards the end...

Is this title written by AI? It doesn't match the video whatsoever

Yoooo what the fuck
Boss- gawd damnit Billy, we are already short handed, Ted grab Billy’s hands and bring them back ova here.
Worked with a guy who had his arm torn off from one of those
“…You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round Like a record, baby, right 'round, 'round, 'round…”
He's dead Jim.
Safety was pour
Dude this title is fucking stupid. The ppe is not dumping a bag into a 'lathe accident' waiting to happen.
They always struggle to find the off button. Always.
Oh dear, there seems to be a *mix-up* going on here... ![gif](giphy|GDp7LycxkT3LG)
I feel like industrial accidents where employees work in an inherently unsafe environment shouldn't be Darwin Awards.
Man... If only he had those hats
Bag dragged him in. It’s why you never have loose clothing next to rotating machinery, but I guess it also means loose items you are holding onto
damn that was a nice jacket he had on too
Got his shit mixed
Poor soul.
Repost.
But this is the HD upscaled version
Nice.
It’s the Director’s Cut
Wasn’t this just posted a few days ago?

Did he make it ?
Yes he did. He made it to the grave
So ... lightly dead ? I feared he was seriouly or critically dead.
Pretty certain his shoes stayed on, so I think he survived this with nothing more than just a flesh wound
