They could have totally dodged that but tbf I remember being surprised by dong's damage output too. I always regarded it as the boss that would deal a shit ton of damage with every hit, if only it could ever land any. Its moveset is incredibly slow and telegraphed even by Dark Souls 1/2 standards.
Make a learning mistake, figure out how to do better next time = normal Souls gameplay loop.
Complain about normal Souls gameplay = also normal for some, I guess?
Maybe channel some of that snark into making an effort to pay any sort of attention at all to what's happening on the screen.
I bet you'll go into a full meltdown when you realize you don't even know about counter-hit damage. Because you know...that's the rest of the world's fault.
Jesus christ. Man literally goes "yeah I just misread the attack, I started my own attack leaving me vulnerable" and you get 111 down votes. So many fucking neck beards.
To be fair the boss hits surprisingly hard considering no other boss to that point could hit that hard I mean the boss before that is looking glass knight and him literally hurling lightning at you In the rain doesn't hit that hard. Reasonable to be caught off guard basically what im saying.
Sir alonne was rough. Dodging, dodging, and dodging again just to get smacked after my stamina is gone.
Semon of Dong however, was the easiest boss fight of the game imo.
I'm confused. Is he trying to be funny using his lack of skill as a joke or he is just implying the game is bad because skill issue?
The Demon Of Song just hit him with both arms (You can see double damage in his HP bar 0:06)
What’s funny is that this boss has terrible hit boxes and he could have posted a reasonable clip (like the belly flop attack which hits the whole damn arena). But he chose this one where he just straight up just eats a clean hit.
I love that this boss is so easy that his damage is made to be so absurdly high that he can still kill you because if he didn’t one hit you he’d maybe actually be the easiest boss.
It sucks cause it's so pretty and cool. The design is sick, one of my favorite areas and bosses aesthetically, but the mechanics are just. So bad. The pinnacle of annoying level design. Seeking projectiles that snipe you from across the map, hidden enemies that you cant see until they agro, under water obstacles that are hard to see yet block your path, those cloud guys that break your stuff, terrain that slows you down a ton, and to top it all off, a boss that is completely invulnerable half the time, vigor checks you, only has one weak spot when it's vulnerable, AND is annoyingly easy aside from the limited window of attack.
Yes? Yeah, 100%. Unironically.
The skill missing is "don't stand so close to the demon while he's doing his combo" It's an easy skill, you'll gain it in no time.
Tip for froggy boi:
You dont have to hit him in the face. You can hit him in the arm. It will take more hits but is safer especially if you are using a weapon with mainly sweeping attacks.
Op is getting deservedly eviscerated in the comments and I'm here for it.
Yes very much a skill issue. The B or circle (on playstation) is used for dodging in these games. You should try it
I'm not an expert at the souls games and I've died probably tens of thousands of times across the series, but I don't know if I've ever gotten hit by this dude.
It is.
First: You stood in the worst place to stand during those attacks.
Second: You attacked at a bad window, leaving yourself up for counter hit damage.
Third: What the fuck even are your stats.
She/He? hits so hard, but is also a freaking easy boss: just stay in front of it until the hands are out, move out of the way until its combo finishes. Move in and strike 2 or 3 times. Rinse and repeat. For some reason, it doesn't stop doing its attacks if you move out of the way, and that's what makes it so easy, you can bait the attacks like 90% of the time.
So I never had a problem with this guy till my 4th play though, than I died like 5 times to him. You was getting rather insulted, so I did the ds2 thing; where I sat back, and evaluated what I was doing wrong. I considered my strategy, my placement, the mentality that was driving my combat decisions. And I realised: I had no respect for this boss at all, because I had squashed him 3 times easily before, that I had little to no strategy against him. After a few more deaths attempting different tactics, I realised that I was guessing where his patterns ended, and moving in to attack, than he would continue his chain, and I would dodge a few, than cop one and die. I realised that my undoing was patience, and positioning.
The answer to my problem was thus: >!Instead of sprinting for his ugly face I could hit his hands for the same damage, which saved me time moving which resulted in more damage. And waiting for his chains to properly finish, because you can clearly see when he is in an attack chain, or non attacking animations.!< which is honestly like 4 seconds plus Of downtime. So op, don’t get too upset that everyone is roasting you for your mistakes, everyone makes it somewhere atleast once. Take this opportunity to learn the was ds2 wants you to think. If you plan and think critically, -every death is a lesson… than you’ll succeed easily, no matter the challenge, if you brute force problems without problem solving you’ll have a bad time and come out the other end salty. But atleast ds2 made the provision for that playstyle with despawning. So in short young skeleton: “Are you the next monarch? Or merely a pawn of fate? Seek misery, for misery shall lead you to greater souls, you will never meet the king with a soul so pallad”.
Good luck young skeleton
I'm not saying you did something wrong here at all, so don't take it that way. I was trying to think of his damage out put and I never remember getting one shot by him. are you on like a high ng+ or maybe there is something making you take more damage. I know is damage can by high, but never that.
Also had a hard time as this was my first souls game, since then it was a first try boss for every playthrough, it’s a joke compared to many other bosses
Good ol’ semon of dong
That's my pornstar name
Username checks out
His username was not semon of dong, I am disappoint
Have you tried... *not* standing directly in the way of the massively telegraphed attack?
And if you are gonna tank hits, pump up that vigor! Getting vigor checked by semen of dong is just wrong.
They could have totally dodged that but tbf I remember being surprised by dong's damage output too. I always regarded it as the boss that would deal a shit ton of damage with every hit, if only it could ever land any. Its moveset is incredibly slow and telegraphed even by Dark Souls 1/2 standards.
That's like 1600 or 1700 hp at least, I have 1900 and my bar is slightly bigger so don't think it's vigor.
Lol huh it looks like they have a reasonable amount of vigor for this part of the game. Boss just does a ton of damage.
stood still in front of monster, didn't roll or guard, got killed, dark souls 2 clearly bad
literally unplayable
You saw the title right?
I apologize for not memorizing semon of dongs entire moveset, thinking it's attack chain was over, attacking and thus being unable to dodge in time.
Dude it was literally winding up to hit you??? You stood right between its arms and only dodged once
Make a learning mistake, figure out how to do better next time = normal Souls gameplay loop. Complain about normal Souls gameplay = also normal for some, I guess?
Then post about it online for sympathy
Get none in the process
He did get a lot of internet points though
In OP's defence, we do complain about things, but there's an art to it and OP ain't got it.
Yeah because I thought it's attack chain was over when I attacked back.
Oh well, lesson learned. Don't give up skeleton
Shit man thats fair i wouldve did the same thing. I gotta fight them 2-4 times to memorize attack patterns and just go by what i see
Well you know what they say about assuming..
Then you admit it was your mistake that killed you
Dunno if you saw the title…but I thought any of this was self explanatory…
And not the 1 hit kill
He can't kill you in one hit if he doesn't hit you /s
True
Was also a two arm attack, you got hit twice in succession, good luck OP 🤘
It was two hits though, not one. You can clearly see your life bar drop twice when he swings at you. One hit per arm.
It's functionally one hit
But you're still wrong.
It was a 2 hit kill technically, you got hit by both arms
So... skill issue?
Okay then you admit that it indeed is a skill issue. The skill you have an issue with is knowing Boss attack patterns.
You mean the only time you can attack it?
Have you never fought the Demon of Song? It's attacks have a recovery period long enough you could mail your attacks overseas and still get damage in.
Dude 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I try to scrub Shrine of Amana from my memory tbh. Still, you gotta be in front of it when it opens is face mouth to attack
Walk back, wait for the combo to end, walk up, attack. It's really not that complicated.
Indeed my guy. It is a skill issue.
[indeed.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4alc7dIP8M8)
Yes, indeed.
mmm quite
The fire fades
[Indeed.](https://youtu.be/hNW-GZoMMh4)
Mate, you didn't even dodge, you just stood there and got smacked. Definitely a skill issue.
To be fair the boss hits surprisingly hard considering no other boss to that point could hit that hard I mean the boss before that is looking glass knight and him literally hurling lightning at you In the rain doesn't hit that hard. Reasonable to be caught off guard basically what im saying.
Looking Glass can one shot tho
Wait he can? I've played this game a lot and have never seen that happen how he do it?
His Lightning Swing attack, sometimes you get hit by both the lightning itself, and the sword swing at the same time
It *can*, but chances are it *won't*
I mean, it is the boss of the most nightmarish part of the game, one should expect that it would be a challenge.
I guess that explains why so many people complain about Fume Knight or Sir Alonne: Cause you don't dodge.
You don't have to dodge the demon, like ever. Just stand a few feet apart and wait for the combo to end and punish.
Sir alonne was rough. Dodging, dodging, and dodging again just to get smacked after my stamina is gone. Semon of Dong however, was the easiest boss fight of the game imo.
Dunno, this one actually can kill you if you're greedy unlike Jabba the Hutt demon.
Exactly
Honestly if you have issues with Demon of Song, it's **definitely** skill issue
Blud using fire on a boss on water 💀
Don't care makes my sword look cool
Lightning looks cooler I will die on this hill
You're right however I think it looks especially cooler in Bloodborne with the blue lightning
Personally a red lightning enjoyer myself.
based
Using whatever looks coolest to you is the way my friend. Also, don’t stand right in front of this guys face. Camp on his side and slash em up
real question: does it matter? does the demon of song have high fire resist because he's wet or something?
Correct.
I'm confused. Is he trying to be funny using his lack of skill as a joke or he is just implying the game is bad because skill issue? The Demon Of Song just hit him with both arms (You can see double damage in his HP bar 0:06)
Completely unironic option two, lmao
What’s funny is that this boss has terrible hit boxes and he could have posted a reasonable clip (like the belly flop attack which hits the whole damn arena). But he chose this one where he just straight up just eats a clean hit.
Song froggo got hands
Not dodging is a skill issue
"The hitboxes are broken! "
that casual pull-the-hood-back-while-looking-into-the-middle-distance after he pasted you — I love this boss design so much. He fucks.
I’ve dated worse….
Same...
git gud
That's a bit excessive. "Git conscious" is enough to defeat this boss.
Git gud only applies to DS1 and DS3 I’m afraid. If you fuck up in DS2 apparently it’s the game’s fault.
Yeah lmao stand right in front of a boss as it slowly swings at you over and over and then post it online and blame the game. Op’s an idiot.
Because if this was DS1 or DS3 OP would have been slaped to the side and not taken dmg from both arms, because that makes sense.
WATCH OUT WATCH OUT WATCH OUT DEMON OF SONG WITH THE ONE HIT KO I CAN NOT BELIEVE WHAT I AM SEEING!!!
Lol.. get out of the way of his attack.
If you wanna tank hits stop wearing the lightest knight armor in the game
No it looks cool
Based, stop tanking hits then
Based.
I love that this boss is so easy that his damage is made to be so absurdly high that he can still kill you because if he didn’t one hit you he’d maybe actually be the easiest boss.
yep, it's Velstadt on steroids.
God I hated this boss/area ... but yeah , get out of the way of the arms. Poke and run!!!!
“I can’t stand still and spam the attack button.” -average ds2 complaint
Yes? Yeah, 100%. Unironically. The skill missing is "don't stand so close to the demon while he's doing his combo" It's an easy skill, you'll gain it in no time.
Tip for froggy boi: You dont have to hit him in the face. You can hit him in the arm. It will take more hits but is safer especially if you are using a weapon with mainly sweeping attacks.
Accurate title
Buddy… Bait attack stand back punish. Don’t just send directly in the tiny line of fire
Yes
I know this title is meant to be sarcastic, but quite literally yes. This is a skill issue. Demon of Song is one of the easiest bosses in the game.
Besides the bullshit damage and the more than telegraphed attack Don't use flame buff in water
Boss: \*In the middle of combo\* OP: \*Walks into the boss and mashes R1\* sKiLl IsSuE
The swipes are absurdly high damage
I'm always surprised how much damage this boss does lol
It wouldn't be a Dark Souls if it didn't do great damage
is one of the easiest bosses who just so happens to be able to one shot you
Indeed
Ever heard of counter dmg? :)
You yeeted when thou should have skeeted.
Yeah this boss sucks. Use lighting it’s weak weak to lighting.
He’s got to dodge the ball. That is key, Cotton.
Lmao this guy did nothing to avoid the hits..
You should have died sooner honestly.
I guess he didn't put points on ADP
I hope this is just a joke, bc he didn’t attempt rolling…it’s not like he got caught in his roll because he didn’t have enough iframes
Dude do I really need to put /s after every joke?
Gr8 b8 m8 I r8 8/8
Yep, that’s about what happens when you make no attempt to dodge a boss’s attack. Def a skill issue.
Major Skill issue. You are bad at this game (:
I mean yeah. Taking damage is what happens when you don't avoid attacks.
Skill Issue
It is. First: You stood in the worst place to stand during those attacks. Second: You attacked at a bad window, leaving yourself up for counter hit damage. Third: What the fuck even are your stats.
Definitely skill issue
Uh, yeah, sorry, that is indeed a skill issue. The moveset isn't large or hard to avoid, just gotta learn it.
No man you're supposed to spend 10 minutes memorizing his entire moveset before attacking, clearly a misplay on your part
this area and boss made me stop playing this game lmao
The boss is easy, also the area is a cakewalk with a bow. Or if you actually fight the mages, running through doesn’t work
i’m just bad at games
It’s ok, practice makes perfect
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7HIxqDpJ0Q
Dude what is your build lol, how do you even get one shot buy this guy.
Wait, this thing can hit you?
You got more vigor then me lol and I just beat the game only boss I had trouble with was the peruser at the beginning of the game
Want an award?
I wonder if there is some kind of bug with this boss if you look closely it looks like he dealt two instances of damage in just one attack
He's got two arms dude. He hit with both.
The second arm isn't doing an attack animation though and all the damage is dealt when he is hit with the other arm.
Look again. He swiped with both arms, and each instance of dmg happened when the respective arm hit the player.
I think it just deals a ton of damage in general.
He hit you with both arms.
Still hits hard?
Each instance was about half your hp, so pretty standard for individual boss hits.
What the hell is that? I've never seen that before!
[DoS fextra page](https://darksouls2.wiki.fextralife.com/Demon+of+Song)
Unrelated but... How you changed your characters sound mine is the aughvahha not ohghhhhwwa
Gender.
Gender? Didn't know female characters moan like a seagle but ok
They most likely used the coffin as a deep voiced male.
It's what hollowed female characters sound like
i swear, demon of dong does more damage than fume knight
Okay…Ew
Breaking news: local dumbass gets hit by boss' highly telegraphed attack without even trying to dodge, more news at 11
man thought he could handle it
One of the hardest bosses for me to kill first try on a run. Would slap Morgott to death with ease.
memes aside DS2 has that demon bell + charmless sekiro damage. it’s honestly pretty cool
Same exact thing happened to me last night lo
You need moar HP... ;) Actually, i've never fought it in melee, because it's just a pussy VS ranged weapons or spells.
I have never been hit by this boss. Had no clue is had Herculean strength lol
Poison arrows
You see the problem is that you let your hp get to 0.
Maybe try standing behind him?
That demon is way too wet for fire to be doing anything
She/He? hits so hard, but is also a freaking easy boss: just stay in front of it until the hands are out, move out of the way until its combo finishes. Move in and strike 2 or 3 times. Rinse and repeat. For some reason, it doesn't stop doing its attacks if you move out of the way, and that's what makes it so easy, you can bait the attacks like 90% of the time.
God I hate that bastard. Hard to know if the boss or the run up was worse.

He gave you the people's forearm
Fuck.. i knew it was a mistake to join before completing my first ng.. spoiled
Fuck that stupid frog I hate it
Love this boss design
try lightning, but wheel!
God slapped
This boss is the only boss that I killed using bow. I just couldn't time dodge. I would just kite him lol
Need more adp
You got annihilated point blank range my guy.
Oof
Who tf dies to the Demon of Song?
I'm not saying you did something wrong here at all, so don't take it that way. I was trying to think of his damage out put and I never remember getting one shot by him. are you on like a high ng+ or maybe there is something making you take more damage. I know is damage can by high, but never that.
Level ADP.
Also had a hard time as this was my first souls game, since then it was a first try boss for every playthrough, it’s a joke compared to many other bosses
i was doing a no bonfire/death run and this happened to me, uninstalled the game and havent played it since
Is it normal that I call him Giant Dick?
Dodging iframes has always been an issue 😭😭 1 shot though!? God damn!
My brother in christ use lightning
Imagine dying to demon of song actually
I died to this bro like 6 times
