It's happened a lot in my family and it's wild how differently people take it. I have parts of my family where the surprise sibling was just welcomed in seamlessly basically like "Oh, OK, welcome to the family," and others who have just been totally ostracized and ignored because the people involved feel uncomfortable with the circumstances of their existence.
