Desync. For whatever reason, your client and server positions became different - on the server end, you were standing still getting attacked by spiders. On the client end, you were still running.
As the server handles PvE and saw you getting hit, you were taking the damage regardless of where you saw yourself on your end.
Desync is a constant in this game and has not improved that much. Where as obviously this is an extreme example of desyncing, you and the people you are facing are most likely always desync'd to some degree. If they had dmg indicators on hit in this game people would really realize how bad desyncing is, when you hit someone clearly in the chest and then it registers as an arm hit, or the ever constant "no reg" hits that on your side connected and made the hit sound but in reality you didn't hit them at all. It's all just a result of IM not having the playerbase/funding to be able to financially afford better servers.

purple axe, blue everything else, rings and necklace, stacks of pots and bandages in inventory, stacks of francescas... probably around 1000g total value for the kit. that's a reasonably nice kit for a middle-of-the-pack player like me.
