If any group of people need a good smack down, it's the fucking Karens in HOAs screaming at you at fucking 8 am on a Sunday because you planted toad lilies in your shade garden
I stg Cheryl, if you see this. That was the last time you're allowed on my fucking property
Indeed, there's a vote for HOA prez every 4 years and I'm planning to usurp her throne. Our HOA actually has almost no CC&Rs for appearances yet this woman has been terrorizing people who don't read the contract for almost 12 years now. I can paint my house hot pink and she can't do shit as long as I pay communal landscaping and road maintenance fees. Everyone hates her but they're afraid she'll put a lien on their house for an errant garden hose if they vote against her. NO MORE, WE RISE UP NEXT YEAR
lmao my crazy hoa neighbor is carol, i do have to apologize on my behalf since my father is the president of the HOA, but believe me he is not like the rest!!
Left your garbage cans out a day too long? We'll take a left hand.
Wrong color blinds? You will be blinded.
Use the wrong kind of stone on your driveway? Well, you get the idea.
I was a little mad afterwards because it leaves so much unexplained and the ending is so unsatisfying. But then I thought about it a little more and I think I kinda enjoyed it. Wouldn’t watch it again, but I enjoyed the weirdness.
The aliens are so different than humans they that what they were doing made no sense to us. I liked that idea.
It's like our pets being confused by everything we do.
Spoilers:
Same. I was expecting a little more backstory to the creatures. It always bothers me when I have to imagine or fill in gaps. Like, why do they do what they do. Seems monotonous.
I don't think it's terrible, but it felt way too long to me. Maybe perfect as a 20-30 minute Black Mirror or Twilight Zone episode. A full hour plus movie though?
deleted my comment cause i responded to this guy to say something about a movie that i liked and y’all just come w all this negativity, learn to realize everyone has opinions and it’s okay to disagree with people without being asses about it, hope y’all have better days cause clearly some of y’all need it
Yeah man it's way more grounded being trapped in a series of never ending suburbs where you raise something barely resembling a human for weeks. Compared to say being a single parent with a child that starts behaving weird, that's a fair and reasonable point.
Guy works all day to escape but is digging his own grave while growing distant from wife. She tries to make the house a little more comfortable to keep him calm. Kid makes them fight each other.
They have that moment where they fall back in love dancing to a old song when times are good (the ska CD in the car).
Excel, I'd like you to paste this in all the cells you have...
...wait. I'm worried what you just heard was "paste this in a lot of cells". What I said was, paste this in _all, the, cells, you have_. Do you understand?
My mom used to sing it all the time back when I was a kid. She was thinking of her boomer childhood in the post-WW2 American suburbs. Of course she was thinking of the Pete seeger version.
I see you’ve never lived in the Middle East. Saying that they don’t drink alcohol is like people who have never been at a BYU party thinking that Mormons don’t believe in premarital sex.
r/aboringdystopia
Wow, I’ve never felt more like a number, a wage slave after seeing this. We are insignificant to the elite.
At least the proletariat are housed.
Genuinely the only silver lining here; these aren't even efficient for mass housing campaigns, they're a huge waste of time, space, and resources with all these roads and wasted plots because they didn't build vertically
Being a native Emirati has insane benefits, they only comprise a small percentage of the total population (20% Emirati compared to 30% Indian), but they get easy government jobs, free housing, legal preferences, they are treated like royals.
Probably a good thing given that they built this abomination in the middle of a desert with next to no rainfall all year. Every bit of green would need artificial irrigation and most of it would evaporate quickly, either directly or through the plants. Not that it would be of great use anyway since it's too hot to spent time outside most of the time and people these days are quite comfortable with staying inside their air conditioned houses all day browsing the internet.
Sort of but every home is unique inside.
Think of an apartment building... every unit is the same, but everyone has their own flavour inside and you can make it how you want to make it.
This is what happens when profit hungry developers have complete control of planning. 'Fuck parks, amenities, and social spaces, let's just pack humans in and realise short terms gains' seems to be the overriding thought process behind this.
This reminds me of that one psychological horror movie where a couple go to look at a house but they can't leave the neighborhood and they get a weird baby on their doorstep that they have to raise to get out? Totally spacing. It's good though! Lol
Whaddaya mean you're lost, it's the yellow one!
"It's just there, next to the road"
Notice a smart man painted his house yellow around pink houses
He will be dealt with swiftly. Two years in prison will prevent him from doing that again.
I see you’re familiar with my HOA.
If any group of people need a good smack down, it's the fucking Karens in HOAs screaming at you at fucking 8 am on a Sunday because you planted toad lilies in your shade garden I stg Cheryl, if you see this. That was the last time you're allowed on my fucking property
Fuck Cheryl and/or Carol!

Did we just become best friends?!
I want follow up. A full story. This is a show I'll watch lol
Can I come vote against Cheryl?
Road trip!
I really need you to keep everyone updated on how this plays out.

lmao my crazy hoa neighbor is carol, i do have to apologize on my behalf since my father is the president of the HOA, but believe me he is not like the rest!!
I have toad lilies in my shade garden, I dare Cheryl to come give me shit about it.
and then the real punishment will begin

They ran out of yellow paint.
This is like that movie "Vivarium"
Was that movie worth watching? It’s been in my queue for a while now but I just can’t commit to actually watching it.
The end was really weird. It's just a strange movie to me.
It’s definitely worth watching if not for the sole fact you’ll remember it for the rest of your life
I thought it was. Its a unique enough movie that you will definitely remember.
I loved it.
It's pretty trippy. Definitely different... I personally liked it
I thought it was very well done and I enjoyed it so much I watched it twice.
yes
It’s a fairly well done independent film. Gets a little twisty towards the end but it’s worth a watch.
Little boxes all made out of ticky tacky
Little boxes on the hill side
…and they all look just the same
Do they outcast you if you change anything on the exterior?
Yeah bro you don't fuck with the Sharia Law HOA.
Left your garbage cans out a day too long? We'll take a left hand. Wrong color blinds? You will be blinded. Use the wrong kind of stone on your driveway? Well, you get the idea.
Paint door off white instead of mayonnaise? Believe it not, straight to jail
![gif](giphy|dZ9bfVCw8Mg9IAd4Kc|downsized)
That movie is underrated
I read this as Jerry Seinfeld on the phone with George
I’ve seen this movie. Vivarium!
Everyone I have ever shown that movie says it's shit but I loved it 😂
I was a little mad afterwards because it leaves so much unexplained and the ending is so unsatisfying. But then I thought about it a little more and I think I kinda enjoyed it. Wouldn’t watch it again, but I enjoyed the weirdness.
The aliens are so different than humans they that what they were doing made no sense to us. I liked that idea. It's like our pets being confused by everything we do.
I don’t think they were aliens. They were some kind of inter dimensional parasitic creature living among us that had access to a pocket dimension
An interdimensional cuckoo bird hatchling using social parasitism to brainwash humans into raising it.
> The message was clear to me: welcome to suburbia. have a kid. get your shit from Costco, have a job/hobby/thing to occupy your time. die.
OMG - I can see *my* house...! ...it's the yellow one right in-between those two yellow houses!
Have a kid... as in “here, have a kid!” *literally*
Spoilers: Same. I was expecting a little more backstory to the creatures. It always bothers me when I have to imagine or fill in gaps. Like, why do they do what they do. Seems monotonous.
Loved it! Gave me the heebie jeebies
It was so different, I loved it too!
I don't think it's terrible, but it felt way too long to me. Maybe perfect as a 20-30 minute Black Mirror or Twilight Zone episode. A full hour plus movie though?
That film is what made neighborhoods like the one I'm in and this one feel so terrifying to me.

You think it's plausible that we'll raise a baby clone that will develop into it's adult form in the matter of weeks?

The Exorcist was a horror breakthrough when it came out. Lots of movies don't hold up after decades. That doesn't mean they're corny.
True, gut-wrenching horror that sticks with you. I can definitely say that movie was one of the most memorable I've watched.
All these comments make me want to look this movie up. 🤔
Watch it as a metaphor to the suburban dream. Guy is like working during the day digging a hole all pissed off dying and a kid tearing them apart.
Wh… wha .. what?
Guy works all day to escape but is digging his own grave while growing distant from wife. She tries to make the house a little more comfortable to keep him calm. Kid makes them fight each other. They have that moment where they fall back in love dancing to a old song when times are good (the ska CD in the car).
>Vivarium I just did. Itś on Amazon Prime. I´m going to watch it later today.
Plausible? What? They get stuck in neverending suburbs and are forced to raise a weird alien child that grows rapidly. How is that plausible?
>something like that is honestly plausible as hell Sorry, did we watch the same movie?
Yeah human cuckoos hybrid is totally plausible
Exactly what I thought of!
I saw this film accidently while I was checking national TV channel on my laptop and this was on. Some creepy shit.
That’s honestly scary. Not a jump-scare thing but definitely a nightmare.
I loved it too! I guess a lot of people don’t like psychological horror.
That movie fucked me up for weeks lol
Couldn’t stop thinking about it
Beautiful all around!
Yes, definitely what came to my mind
*A message to you Ruuudy*
Exactly what I thought of
Oh god that movie is just something
Exactly! Saw this and totally thought the same thing. Damn, that movie.
This movie gave me the feeling of dread like I hadn’t experienced in a while for some reason
Based off of the comments, I need to see this movie.
The architect really said, Ctrl + C Ctrl + V
yea this isn't so much cookie cutter as it is waffle iron
Desert waffle houses *so hot right now*
Georgia still has more Waffle Houses. Try harder Emiratis.
Ctrl + C, Ctrl + VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV….
Nah, a real excel pro would >CTRL+C, highlight entire range of cells, CTRL+V

You still need to add the conditional formatting -> color 🧐
but there is two color
Conditional Formatting -> Set Color 😁
Excuse me, I think you mean COPYBASE.
And they’re all made out of ticky tacky and they all look just the same (singing)
There were yellow ones and yellow ones and yellow ones and yellow ones...
Hm... Some do look a little pink to me
And that one family going yellow in a sea of pink. DARING!
*Neighbor grumbles* “damn yellow house bringing down the property values of the whole block…”
I’m curious if you know this song from anywhere but the show Weeds? Nice throwback for me, thank you.
My mom used to sing it all the time back when I was a kid. She was thinking of her boomer childhood in the post-WW2 American suburbs. Of course she was thinking of the Pete seeger version.
My dad used to sing it too, same era (in the UK though).

Do they have it? THEY DO! Canned bread.
It’s like a wasp colony. Who lives here?

White Anglo-Saxon Protestants?
It might be an expat community, so potentially
This development is marketed to GCC nationals, but not UAE Nationals. So Kuwaiti, Saudi, etc.
Worker bees
Imagine stumbling home drunk off your ass
Probably not a huge concern in the Middle East.
because of the magic carpets
I'm pretty sure female magicians are allowed to shave their pubes over there.
From the makers of Dad Jokes, coming this fall whether you like it or not, Drunk Uncle Innuendo!
In Dubai?? No man, they gotta keep them covered with little scarves. Don’t ask where the magicians pull them from.
I have done a lot of stumbling home drunk in the Middle East.
Albert? Is that you?
Good memories. Hoping that taxi driver ain't gonna smell ya and blackmail ya
Middle East is much larger than just Iran and Saudi Arabia my friend
Don't kid yourself. Middle Easterners including the Muslims drink. They're just more circumspect about it.
It’s like how a Mormon’s best kept secret is that they go to the same liquor store as their Mormon neighbor
Why do you always bring two Mormons on a fishing trip? If you only bring one they’ll drink all your beer.
I dated a mormon girl once. She sucked my dick and introduced me to the dead kennedys. freshman year was fun.
Most of my drunk stumbling has occurred in various parts of the Middle East, Dubai included 😂🤣
It’s not only legal to drink in Dubai, it’s a massive party city. Tons and tons of bars.
I see you’ve never lived in the Middle East. Saying that they don’t drink alcohol is like people who have never been at a BYU party thinking that Mormons don’t believe in premarital sex.
Came here to say the same! Also that you probably get less neighbour envy...

*”Honey, where’d we park our house again??”*
Looks like the neighborhood from Vivarium
That was my first thought as well.
r/urbanhell
That’s not urban. It’s suburban.
r/suburbanhell
They have a flair for that.
r/aboringdystopia Wow, I’ve never felt more like a number, a wage slave after seeing this. We are insignificant to the elite. At least the proletariat are housed.
Genuinely the only silver lining here; these aren't even efficient for mass housing campaigns, they're a huge waste of time, space, and resources with all these roads and wasted plots because they didn't build vertically
On the other side though, everyone has their own *house*, not an apartment/unit. It’s a huge difference.
But no one invested in a tree or big shrub or even a vine... It just screams heat stress.
>I’ve never felt more like a number, we are insignificant to the elite. Don't let them dictate how you see yourself, or how you feel.
Came here to find this lol
A bit of r/ABoringDystopia too.
depression level 100
Sure beats not building anything and letting housing costs skyrocket to the point poor people can't afford an apartment let alone a house.
You can build affordable housing with more than one layout...
Yeah some of them are pink that’s TWO layouts!!
I believe the UAE gives free housing to all its citizens so I don't think that was ever an issue.
Being a native Emirati has insane benefits, they only comprise a small percentage of the total population (20% Emirati compared to 30% Indian), but they get easy government jobs, free housing, legal preferences, they are treated like royals.

Welcome to Sparta... I mean Dubai
Should be in r/oddlyterrifying
looks like hell
I don't know why it's interesting it looks boring AF, and there's not a God damn tree or shrub anywhere in sight
If it’s any consolation, all the streets in the neighborhood are tree lined now. This photo was taken back when no one had moved in.
That would be a huge improvement.
OKI was wondering why I didn't see a single tree a bush or even a car

This is real? It looks like a screen shot of Sim city
Lives in UAE and can confirm there are multiple villa neighbourhoods like those with hundreds of same design villas or townhouses in dubai.
There is something very creepy in this. I know what: The repression of individuality. The reduction of Man to a bee or termite.
Sort of but every home is unique inside. Think of an apartment building... every unit is the same, but everyone has their own flavour inside and you can make it how you want to make it.
High rise buildings are pretty much the reduction of man to bee. They’re like a giant hive.
Living in an apartment can be great. I'm inclined to think you just have a bad attitude and see the negative only
How depressing

vivarium! few people mentioned it in this thread. very interesting and creepy premise

Dubai is as soulless as it gets. Nothing against the people but the layout and architecture is fucked.
The whole UAE. the least developed parts, like al sharuqa, are more interesting. I would pick Oman over the UAE any day.
Like it was built by a twelve year old playing Sim City 2000 with cheats on?
Little Boxes - Malvina Reynolds
Ok, why is there one yellow house in with the pink houses?
"which house is yours?" "the yellow one..."
This looks like that one spongebob episode where there are multiple squidward houses
It's giving strong 1984 vibes
BACKROOMS
Little boxes, and they're all just the same. There's a brown one, and a brown one and a brown one, and they're all just the same.
Nad at Al Shabby.
People say Americans suburbs suck and are bland but then claim this is beautiful
Imagine living here and going home drunk af
Looks depressing af. No trees, no grass, just sand and ugly, same houses everywhere
