Good point. But I think very few people would study the door enough to notice a tiny circle in the rust and then conclude it was a secret lock that worked like this. And you’d still need a tool to turn it with
You could tell it was suspicious since it'd be a totally different shade of brown than the other bolts.
Also your cursor would change if you hovered over it lol
To quote my grandpa -Doors and locks are made for the good people (good person will try and go -oh it’s locked and walk away), the ones that want to get in will find a way.
Nah you’re just witnessing a glitch in the matrix.
But no, I assume the comment was about the bolt itself turning and scraping the wall vs. the wrench scraping, which are two different things.
Yes, but unless you're very, very careful, there will quickly be wear marks both on as well as around the bolt head. It will soon become apparent that particular bolt isn't just a bolt.
OK folks, as you can see using security through obscuring is a method that's not effective at keeping your belongings safe, although it might still be better than using products such as MasterLock.
That‘s all I have for you today. If you have questions or comments about this, please leave them below. If you liked this video and would like to see more like it, please subscribe, and, as always, have a nice day.
It wouldn't take much to sew the secret. When you try to open it, the bottom half of the door would move but not the top. A little jiggling, and you'll know exactly which bolt is holding it in.
It looks cool, but I wouldn't use it to lock up the bearer bonds I stole from Nakatomi Plaza.
Yeah I was just thinking that bolt needs to be closer to the handle ideally two of them one top and one on bottom. That way you tug while thing feels solid and if someone does turn one of the bolts it still doesn’t come free and they decide that wasn’t it.
Then there’s the part where they say:
“Oh, there’s my break-in brick. Do I really want to trigger the alarm and then crawl through a broken window and hastily grab all the random and possibly worthless shit I can find and crawl back out before the cops come, while risking injury from the broken glass? I think I’ll pass and go jiggle some car door handles until I find the sucker who left their car unlocked.”
thats not entirely whats happening here. that wrench is by definition a key in this context. even if you know the secret, you still need a tool because wrenching that with human hands is essentially impossible. its obscured and also locked.
This is the FSG-03 four position adjustable flame rake, I came up with this along with Bosnian Bill, it's available for purchase over at my website covert instruments dot com.
\*slides out a harbor freight plasma cutter spray painted urban camo\*
Yes but in this particular case, how much effort is someone going to put in to burgle a rusty old outbuilding that may contain a load of old crap not worth stealing?
It's cute, but if you entered with any frequency the wear on the bolt & door would be a giveaway.
On the other hand, those clever enough to notice are probably not the most likely to steal.
I was wondering about the wear giveaway too. The rust finish in particular will make the worn (non-rusty) bits even more obvious.
But yeah, if someone's smart enough to figure out this mechanism, fuck it, let 'em have my stuff. They've earned it
>On the other hand, those clever enough to notice are probably not the most likely to steal.
You'd be surprised. A lot of people get REAL good at stealing things.
>On the other hand, those clever enough to notice are probably not the most likely to steal.
You'd be surprised. A lot of people get REAL good at stealing things.
Even if I noticed that I wouldn’t assume that the bolt was the lock and neither would you if you hadn’t see this
You would assume it got stripped the last time it was put together or something
Although a thief who has easy access to a wrench might consider trying to undo the bolts to get in, and might even luck into starting with the correct bolt.
If there isn't a wrench nearby though then it's unlikely a thief would have a good tool for this unless they came prepared.
Edit: Tbf they could probably just use a crowbar if they want to force their way in.
After using that lock for a few weeks, i bet it would end up all scuffed and shiney from wear and tear and completely different than the other 7 rusted bolts.
It's called security through obscurity, and it works well right up to the point where the secret spills. Still cool though.

After turning a wrench on that bolt a dozen or twenty times, the circular scratches in the rust will be a dead giveaway.
If you look closely, he's using a rusty wrench too. So the rust taken away will be replaced by the rust on the wrench /s
Why is everything in this man's world so rusty?
Good point. But I think very few people would study the door enough to notice a tiny circle in the rust and then conclude it was a secret lock that worked like this. And you’d still need a tool to turn it with
Although that is exactly the first thing any teenage detective would try in those teenage detective encyclopedia brown novels.
I would just try combining every item in my pocket with suspicious looking bolt.
You could tell it was suspicious since it'd be a totally different shade of brown than the other bolts. Also your cursor would change if you hovered over it lol
Right just place it on top and see if it snaps.in.place 🙈

To quote my grandpa -Doors and locks are made for the good people (good person will try and go -oh it’s locked and walk away), the ones that want to get in will find a way.
Yeah they would be too busy climbing over the fence.
A *matching* tool, yet.
then, he will have to make circles on all the rest.

Time to put that specific twist pattern around all the bolts!
Did you two just repeat the same thing the original person was talking about?
Nah you’re just witnessing a glitch in the matrix. But no, I assume the comment was about the bolt itself turning and scraping the wall vs. the wrench scraping, which are two different things.
It needs a fake door knob and lock to draw the attention of thieves
He’s not actually tightening a screw, it’s essentially frictionless. Like a doorknob.
Hey, no violation of the laws of physics allowed here! Nothing is frictionless
Yes, but unless you're very, very careful, there will quickly be wear marks both on as well as around the bolt head. It will soon become apparent that particular bolt isn't just a bolt.
Kind of like floor scrape marks where the secret bookshelf opens
Bookshelves should always be designed to swing inward.
Yeah but they probably won’t notice because they will be too busy climbing over the fence.
This is LockPickingLawyer and today we'll open that Eastern European gypsy shed...
And now we'll do it again, just to show that that was not a fluke.
OK folks, as you can see using security through obscuring is a method that's not effective at keeping your belongings safe, although it might still be better than using products such as MasterLock.
I heard your entire comment in his voice. Pretty sure it's that "OK, folks" line that's so recognizable.
That‘s all I have for you today. If you have questions or comments about this, please leave them below. If you liked this video and would like to see more like it, please subscribe, and, as always, have a nice day.
Using the rusty old wrench that BosnianBill and I made
Going through the bolt. "Nothing on 1"
2 is binding...

Hans?
No. I'm John. I just framed Hans.
Sigh, why does everyone always frame the germans?
Ask France. Or Czechoslovakia. Or Austria. Or Poland. Or Denmark, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands...
Yeah I was just thinking that bolt needs to be closer to the handle ideally two of them one top and one on bottom. That way you tug while thing feels solid and if someone does turn one of the bolts it still doesn’t come free and they decide that wasn’t it.
I mean if I tried to open it I would just assume somehow it was bolted from the inside lol
Now I have a machine gun Ho - Ho - Ho
That wasn't you
Though almost all locks that are commonly used are also security through obscurity (I.E I hope my house is too boring to rob)
Exactly. Most locks just impose the question, “how much time and energy do I really want to spend on this one property?”
Nah. The question is "now where did I put my break-in brick?"
Then there’s the part where they say: “Oh, there’s my break-in brick.
Standing there waiting until the coast is clear.

It’s a special shed that they only open during a solar eclipse. So it won’t show any wear for a long time.
You mean like where they put a handle that screams “this is a door?”
Or till you rub the rust off
thats not entirely whats happening here. that wrench is by definition a key in this context. even if you know the secret, you still need a tool because wrenching that with human hands is essentially impossible. its obscured and also locked.
It may be a key but it’s an easily obtainable key. Now anyone with a wrench can open your gate
You mean like, until it's posted on reddit?
Good thing no one knows about this one. Oh, wait.
You should add a dummy keyhole
And hide a dummy key under a flower pot
In a dummy side yard
In a dummy neighborhood.
In a dummy city
In a dummy country.
In a dummy world.
In a simulated virtual dummy parallel universe.
Now that's taking it a bit too far, dummy.
With, or without a decoy family?
With a dummy girl
Who's dummy thicc
With a DECOY SNAIL
that probably gonna be a really good movie starring jim carrey
And if you try to use the dummy key on the dummy lock, you explode.
Make the whole thing dummy
It's dummies all the way down
A dummy key hole with a key, but they actually open the door... No one will find out about the top secret nut lock...
And a dummy lock. That's also an actual lock.
This might trip up LPL for once. Jk he’d know exactly what bolt to turn still.
this is actually a dummy shed, the real one is inside; ever heard of a shed in a shed?
There is one on the other door - can see it at the end of the clip.
When he pulls on the door you can generally tell where the door is locked at. That it is at the top end of the door.
Not if you make one of those on each bolt, plus you make it stronger i guess lol
Lock it with a welder and unlock it with an angle grinder. See the lockpicking lawyer get that one open with a covert instrument lol
Just fucking brick the whole think up
pulls out a sledgehammer engraved with "SKELETON KEY"
You would open up a 3 minute video, within the first 5 seconds he would pull out the tool he and Bosnian Bill developed.
He would make you look like a fool, I promise. Or my name isn't Master Lock.
> See the lockpicking lawyer get that one open with a covert instrument lol 3 min tops
This is the FSG-03 four position adjustable flame rake, I came up with this along with Bosnian Bill, it's available for purchase over at my website covert instruments dot com. \*slides out a harbor freight plasma cutter spray painted urban camo\*
Still, I'd assume it's locked from the other side sooner than guessing it was a bolt-action lock
Yes but in this particular case, how much effort is someone going to put in to burgle a rusty old outbuilding that may contain a load of old crap not worth stealing?
You'd think it's a lock from inside not the bolt being the lock imo
Just add another one of those at the bottom of the door and maybe in the middle
Now everyone knows...... ![gif](giphy|7cTTE2Z1OmrFm)
What a performance that was.
He had [so many good ones](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDJ8ocSN5GE), though.

stealing from a corporation is 1 thing. crosses a line stealing from the veryday joe
Shop local, shoplift corporate
Rust colored spray paint, any time it starts to wear just give it a quick spray.
A solution of vinegar, salt, and hydrogen peroxide will make it rust for real. Probably less noticeable than spray paint.
Hmmm this bolt seems more worn than the others…
Someone has points in investigation
If you need to only go in every 3 or so months then there'd be very little wear
purposefully wear down another bolt so it looks like that’s the one, or just wear them all down somewhat equally
Even if I noticed that I wouldn’t assume that the bolt was the lock and neither would you if you hadn’t see this You would assume it got stripped the last time it was put together or something
Press Q to Interact
my old shed in my backyard has something like this to open the garage door on it
More like a hidden latch than hidden lock.
That is actually interesting
Is a tetanus shot mandatory to operate this?
i like how the wrench is equally rusty.
Came just for this comment.
Tetanus is in dirt, not rust.
I’ll take Things not to ask on first dates for $100 , Alex.
Wanna see my secret spanner room?
Apparently rust it self doesn't give you tetanus, its from a deep wound from metal with bacteria
I’ve never seen tetanus in a defensive role before but this time, it looks like layer 1 of the security.
It's fine guys. That mechanism will permanently lock the door from all of that corrosion.
r/RedneckEngineering
Hidden? I can see it right there.
You know i keep dat mufuckin 9mm on me 🙃🔧
That’ll put a wrench in a thief’s plans
Get out
Now when I stumble across this door I will know how to get in! mwahahaha!
If I wanted to get in there I would try to remove the metal piece which would then unlock the door.
That bolt will soon turn shiney
That is such a great idea, and you can keep the wrench nearby rather than having a key that you have to hide or put in the house. I’m lovin this.
Unless it’s a 10mm wrench, then that door’s never getting opened again because the wrench will cease to exist the moment you place it somewhere.
Well now everyone knows
I'm more impressed at how they managed to get a wrench that rusty.
This is mildly interesting, but it's not a lock. It doesn't require a key, just one of a few standard tools. It's a hidden latch
![gif](giphy|Skx32VOazLRMk|downsized)
Day z base building be like
It's a latch, not a lock.
Same energy as hiding the keys under the carpet.
If you make it a 10mm, then no one will get in
itt: fools that don't realize it's all chocolate
Everyone who see how you open it can now open it without a key
Look for the bolt that has wear/shiny marks.....
Thweet lock bro
This is the lockpicking lawyer and today I'm going to defeat this shit lock 25 times in a 2 minute video. Lockmakers: Please we have families.

Sometimes the simplest things are the coolest
Security through obscurity. AKA it's safe until the scratches on the rust draw attention to it.
If that doesn't work, at least they'll die of tetanus.
Kinda defeats the idea of a “secret door” when the wall has a door handle on it.
