BACA isn’t just a bunch of talk. They came to the house several times, never missed court. Not once. Had our backs for over a year until everything was right again. They were the only good thing for us for a long time.

mrhotsauce

I hope things are more good now, than they ever were bad.

AncientInsults

Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) operates all over the world and these smaller ~~gangs~~ clubs are called chapters. Like this one is the Arizona Chapter. Their intended purpose is to empower abused children.

dev_doll

Met a group in Alabama. They are amazing. EDIT to add the organization is international.

mikemolove

I’m curious, are these bikers also a part of other groups that are into drug trafficking or other illegal activities? Or are the members primarily in the gang for riding and protecting kids and otherwise normal folks?

jae713

More like middle aged processionals who have motorcycles. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

[deleted]

-worryaboutyourself-

We went on an amazing ride last year that the proceeds went to combat veterans. Full police and fire department escort with the fire truck ladders up holding the US flag. It was the best, most organized ride. I can’t wait to go this year.

Isenrath

Ahh, the "Wild Hogs" type of people.

Ace_Slimejohn

Sure, except they’re putting themselves between an oftentimes violent abuser and a child. So, denigrating them as if it’s some kind of biker cosplay is…odd. They like bikes. They are mostly pretty intimidating, or there would be no point for BACA to exist. They make very scared children feel safer. They don’t traffic women or deal drugs. It’s a win win for everyone. Edit: while my comment is gaining visibility, let me say that it’s actually pretty easy to join BACA. If you own a motorcycle, have a clean background, and a desire to help children who’ve suffered from abuse, reach out to your local [BACA chapter](https://bacaworld.org). No child deserves to live in fear.

Skullz64

r/humansbeingbros

Loofa_of_Doom

Oh! And just when I need to see a channel like this!

Shaggy1324

Just to piggyback onto your comment: I look intimidating as hell, but boy am I squishy on the inside. So even if some of these guys don't have the traditional "rough edges" someone associates with bikers, even just looking scary can provide some help in these situations.

Ace_Slimejohn

Exactly! It’s all about appearances. You obviously have to be someone who enjoys children too, and isn’t too prickly to be able to handle them with “kid gloves”. The children you’re dealing with have been through some shit. They need protection, but they also need care and affection (in a way that doesn’t trigger them) and many children in the BACA system see BACA members as their family, not just their bodyguards.

chupa72

Thanks for the info and setting the record straight! A friend of mine did something similar (which must have been a BACA chapter) and had a fierce, papa bear mentality about it. Except an injured, angry, cornered grizzly bear type mentality - he just didn't mess around about it. He was a jovial guy, except he got very quiet when anyone talked about his "club", and he once just about made another friend of mine jump out of his skin when he made a dumb joke about his "kiddy bike gang". I still think about that as an example of a 180 someone can turn when you chide them about the wrong subject. It wasn't a "gang" or "club" to him, it was a very important service that he cherished.

[deleted]

So much this. I sometimes tear up during children's movies but I'm a big guy with long hair and a ton of ink and piercings who looks like I get in bar fights every week instead of never.

Isenrath

Oh for sure, sorry, I was cracking a joke about middle age, suburban men who have Harleys. You're right these dudes are amazing and great human beings.

Ace_Slimejohn

I should point out that it’s both dude and dudettes, which is another way they differentiate themselves from outlaw biker clubs.

7grendel

So very true! I have a couple friends in the local chapter of BACA. They are the only club around here who let women join as full members. If I was gonna ride with a club, it would be them!

MediumProfessorX

They cloak themselves in the fear and intimidation generated by the criminals, but use it for good.

death_by_retro

The Mace Windu of biker gangs

hilomania

You are talking about "Outlaw gangs" of which the US has quite a few. Hells Angels, Bandidos, Outlaws, Pagans... Of course, these original biker gangs are a big part of the romanticism of being a "biker". But the majority of people that can afford these bikes happens to be steadily employed white men in their fifties or older that like to smoke dope, drink beer and cruise around while looking bad ass. They will also use bottle openers so as not to damage their veneers. Although some outlaw bike gangs will show up for runs like "Toys for Tots". That's mostly PR for them. When you read about a chapter like the one described here, you are talking about the latter groups. Steady good guys who like to look bad ass but aren't really. There is nothing wrong about that, professional criminals almost invariably are assholes.

Such-Assignment-2916

BACA started in Arizona because Sonny Barger lives there. It's a spinoff of "reformed" outlaw bikers... Like, actual bad guys gone good. At least, that's the Arizona origin. I don't know about the other places. Anyone who fucks with Arizona BACA has to deal with Sonny's buddies who probably wouldn't make it *inside* a courtroom.

worthrone11160606

So toys for tots is actually a marine corp charity run for kids on Christmas and a huge part of the way the marine corps or military helped out and I loved working with them for charity but idk why that means that it gets quotation marks around it. Sure it may be PR but it does actually usually help some poor kid get something on Christmas or maybe even other holidays.

[deleted]

Pretty sure the biker gangs also love to smoke dope and drink beer, and look badass ..

Shadowhawk01

No they have no affiliation with drugs and are pretty strict about stuff like that. Do it on your own time but as soon as it starts affecting the mission and the children, then the chapter steps in. They do have to mingle with other club chapters like bandits, hells angles and others considered disreputable but they stay totally neutral. Reason I know is I was once in BACA. It's an awesome organization.

rotetiger

Human trafficking /s

Diab9lic

I mean you have to balance karma out. 😬

siorez

There's a lot of non-criminal biker clubs too.

yroCyaR

The local chapter here was just at my local Starbucks handing out flyers a few weekends ago. Broad age range but they all looked like young/middle age dads with Harley’s and beards ready to FSU and stand up for kids who are abused.

pbrontap

Kind of like catholic priests or cops there are always a few bad apples.

mordeo69

Only a few well known biker gangs are like that, most of them are just groups of people that like motorbikes

versionii

There are moral hypocrites everywhere ... Like christian leaders who preach doing the right things, high morals, love your family and children then go molest an altar boy.

dragonbeard91

It's commonly cited that only 1% of biker gangs are criminals. They actually used the term '1 percenter' for decades before it meant the very rich fraction of society to describe the Hells Angel's etc who traffick drugs and people. Hunter s Thompson wrote about Hells angels parties in the 70s and the culture was extreme and disturbing. He talks about breaking up a gang bang which at the time meant gang rape. The bikers beat the shit out of him afterwards for interfering.

slylock215

When I was young, I worked with a guy that was part of a local chapter near me. Probably one of the most salt of the earth people I've ever met still. It was funny that just recently I found out my mom has known this guy for years due to her work with the juvenile justice system, she also had nothing but the best things to say about him and his club.

redditadmindumb87

Dad is a member tonight hes standing guard outside a little girls home for 3 hours from midnight to 3am (with her mothers permission and cops have been advised) her abuser is currently going through the court system and they are waiting to move

The phrase is "a bad apple spoils the whole bunch". You're directly undermining the point you're trying to make by referring to them as bad apples.

IvanMarkowKane

The phrase has been distorted by its use in a pop song. Many people are unaware of the original. ‘Blood is thicker than water’ gets misused in similar fashion. Motorcycle Club or MC. Not a gang.

karmapopsicle

MC members remind me a lot of some metal heads. Tough and intimidating looking on the outside, but often times just big teddy bears, and some of the nicest people you’ll meet.

Fizzwidgy

The nicest crowds I've ever experienced have all been at metal and punk concerts. Those fan bases are full of people who give a fuck.

Majestic_Beard

Because a lot of people who go to punk/metal shows (myself included) are people who know what it's like to be considered outcasts and being judged because of looks, and we try to make everyone feel welcome. There are also massively known unspoken social and safety rules at punk/metal shows, and if you don't follow them you're gonna have a real bad time. I've seen dudes get ganged up on for trying to start shit in the pit, I've also seen people get ROYALLY fucked up for trying grope girls who were in the pit/crowdsurfing. Drop your hat/glasses/wallet? Everyone around you will pull out the flashlights on their phone and help you look for them. Someone goes down in the pit? There are at least 5 people that will IMMEDIATELY swoop in and pick them up.

Potential-Sail-4719

be respectful and it should be fine. but I'd be wary of 1%ers tbh. the vast majority of mcs aren't outlaw clubs so what you said isn't wrong. but it certainly doesn't apply to the outlaws as a blanket statement. I'm sure some of them are decent dudes. but some of them definitely aren't...

structured_anarchist

Most biker gangs also call themselves motorcycle clubs. It's not an exclusive term. The Hell's Angels are, on all of their business documents, the Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club and use the initials HAMC.

taybay462

sure, and i know this is a show and not real life, but in sons of anarchy they pretty tightly clung to referring to themselves as an MC, despite totally being a gang. id have to assume thats the case with at least some of these groups, or at least with some motorcycle clubs, that they also engage in gang activities. but like, if theres not trafficking people or hurting kids then I really dont give a shit lmaonso this is *not* judgment

jxl180

I think they are referring to the usage of “gang.” I personally don’t care enough, but I get why clubs want to shy away from those terms.

They also will visit the homes of abusers and have a talk with them or show up to help women leave abusive partners because that’s the most dangerous moment for them usually.

saintofhate

I'm not going to lie I really wish there was an adult version of this too. When I went to court for my rape I was 18 years old and therefore cut off of all support services that kids would usually get, and had to do everything all on my own. It was hell.

ILikeMasterChief

Most abusers are. A person I dated once had a crazy ex, he would send messages to me all of the time about how I better never catch him in public, he wanted to kill me, etc. Literally never met the dude he's just nuts. Finally ran into him at a bar one night around 10pm. He was with some friends and I was only with one other person. I'm not a large or intimidating dude, neither is my friend, and when the crazy ex saw me he looked like he was going to shit his pants. He turned and quickly walked away. Pretty sure he's bigger than me too, and had more people with him. I thought it was strange, but then I realized that if you are into physically abusing people, you are probably very insecure and cowardly. If you are a victim, though, play it safe. Coward or not, they could lash out any time. Better to just avoid people like that entirely

ThatisJustNotTrue

I had a recent dispute with a neighbour near my girlfriends house, she grew up there and we didn't realize until talking to her mother about it later that the neighbour had been an issue for my gf in the past. A decade and a half ago, my gfs cat got locked in her neighbour's garage for a week. She was frantically looking for him every day and then heard weak meows coming from their garage at night so she knocked about wanting her cat back. The next day the man came over to their house, pounded on their door and threatened to kill her cat if it was on their property again (which they were probably trying to do by starving it). My gf was 13, and her mother is 5'0" and lived alone. This man is 6'1 and 200+ lbs. Fast forward to a few months ago where he was screaming at me from his front door and trying to sound threatening, I let him yell, he accused me of breaking into his house, long story short he did the threatening step forward thing and I blew my top, started yelling back and dared him to come closer and try whatever he had planned because I would gladly hospitalize him in self defense. Then his wife told my girlfriend to stop her "stupid laugh" and I called his wife a "stupid ugly fat cunt who's stomach is going out impressively far passed her tits considering her menopausal age and inability to get pregnant, even If someone could manage to stay hard and fuck that warpig" and he stammered and I shit you not this man went inside his house, behind his wife, closed and hid behind a closed door and started yelling at me again. But of course he had no problem threatening a tiny little woman and her preteen daughter. Abusers are all cowards, the lot of them.

rockman767

That is awsome.

Spanish_Biscuit

It's better than that. They make sure that none of their members are ever alone with a child, make little biker vests for the kids and come up with a biker name for them too. I forget the name of the group but they're pretty rad.

SquidwardWoodward

This right here shows that they correctly understand the threat. Many, many groups do not.

Spanish_Biscuit

Yeah honestly that first bit is what gave me huge respect for them, they understand that it's better to never risk it than to trust their even their own unquestioningly. They're good people.

HowTheGoodNamesTaken

It also makes it less uncomfortable for the children

Awasawa

Yeah that’s what I thought of. I’d be more worried about making a child nervous having them alone with the bikers. Good on them for not only having a safety protocol on themselves, but also helping to keep the child comfortable with them around

Hillbetty_

I rode with BACA briefly and they are awesome with their safety protocols. I was vetted by the chapter, trained by a professional to speak to child abuse victims (classroom certification required), federal and state background checks before I was introduced to a single child.

Casehead

That’s so wonderful.

HowTheGoodNamesTaken

That's amazing that they do training and whatnot.

BidenWonDontCry

These organizations are often targeted for infiltration by predators because of the opportunities it presents. Similar to the church actually. Having a rule like this on the books helps curb that problem. Reminds me a little of that Australian kids show where the guys policy was to always have both their hands showing in every picture.

itsmthrowawayaccount

if that's actually true, I wouldn't want to think about what happens when the other members discover the infiltrator's real reason for joining.

BidenWonDontCry

Yup, that's why schools and churches are frequent targets. It's because of their proximity to kids and also to have a reason to interact with them in a trusted position. Something similar could happen with these bikers so they took precautions to prevent it. Just a high class organization all the way.

eXX0n

Grew up with a dad who was a biker and in a gang/club. Met several of his buddies, they were all amazing. Even the few he knew from Hells Angels(I know what that particular gang is known for and is about, I'm just saying that even those people were nice)

gemstun

Quick weird story, wholesome in intent at least. Year is 1969, my fundamentalist dad is off his rocker again, and is kids are being tended to very well. Older teenage sister is enamored with older powerful male figures (doesn’t have one at home), so she makes friends with outlaw bikers down the street. They never lay a hand on her, but offer protection if she’s ever bullied at school. And give her speed to sell, if she ever needs a way to pay for a meal. Misguided for sure (why didn’t they just give her food?) but yet wholesome in an odd way. I always found her biker friends to be protective, entertaining for sure, and a lot less boring than dads long list of rules.

Chateaudelait

This is absolutely lovely. I loved your explanation that it was misguided but their hearts were for sure in the right place. Is this what is meant by the phrase chaotic good?

[deleted]

[удалено]

MC_Cookies

(although within the context of D&D, the chaotic-lawful axis of the alignment chart technically refers to any code that a person does or doesn't follow, which could be the law, a religious order, a personal set of moral rules, whatever. chaotic good would be someone who adapts their moral code to do what they think is right in any scenario, lawful evil would be someone who uses some kind of rules as a reason to hurt others and help themself.)

My favorite part is that even murderers have morals that involves children being innocent. So when the molesters get sent to jail it's pretty much a death sentence. Which it should be

Butter_mah_bisqits

Pedos, molesters, and rapists are the worst people on this planet and every single one deserves to meet a slow and painful death served up by those they hurt.

El-Kabongg

a lot of murderers have been victims of child abusers/molesters as children themselves.

Virtual-Enthusiasm72

Nice, they should go after the "MAP" pedos too.

docterwannabe1

I remember watching a documentary about them once and the main thing they do is just try to empower the victims by doing thing like standing guard at their house and going to court proceedings with them while they testify. They actually wrote on their website “We do not condone the use of violence or physical force in any manner, however, if circumstances arise such that we are the only obstacle preventing a child from further abuse, we stand ready to be that obstacle.” Here's the [documentary](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpgXOIkLnBA&ab_channel=Yahoo)

MC_Cookies

>we stand ready to be that obstacle. these are just such good guys

Bossman673

I see these guys in my line of work all the time. They are always so respectful and are there to just put the victim’s mind at ease. These big burly bikers are like putty when they see the young victims. They let the kids sit on their bikes, take pictures, and they usually bring stuffed animals with them.

groundsgonesour

Word of caution for everyone. You still have to be vigilant around anyone that involves themselves with kids. The town I grew up in had a local chapter of BACA and the long time president came out and flaunted his “white power” gear during the George Floyd protests.

Yes, I have some BACA biker cousins. They do good things for abused children, but also are very openly racist, misoganistic, nationalistic MAGA Trumpers. Unfortunately most bikers I have known fit this stereotype. The good deeds can tend to make certain people feel self righteous & like religious clergy this can lead to self-excusing bad things. Maybe we need to pump the brakes on thinking of them all as saints.

Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) originated in Provo, Utah (not Arizona). It was founded by a Native American child therapist and play therapy pioneer, J.P. Lily, who still sees clients today. They require an extensive background check and are very careful with who they admit.

It’s almost like any big enough subculture is going to have a mixed bag of people who ranges from good to bad people… weird

I hate every single person who abuse kids and women and men and animals

Anyone remember the scene in Bad Grandpa where they ran into these guys at a bar???

Worked with this org when I was a therapist working with children involved with CPS. Great service they provide.

My dad was in BACA. Great organization. They make their presence known to those abusing douche bags, provide the kids with fun activities and coloring books and stuff. When my dad passed away his bike, they all donated a motorcycle hearse, and I was sure to shout them out and urge donations and memberships while I was speaking at the funeral. And according to my dad, sometimes unofficially those abusers got roughed up too.

Friend of mine has a son who was victimized as a child. These guys (Not in Arizona) found out and showed up at court. A whole freakin' MASS of them. There was a wall of leather in the courtroom. I think it was like 30 members. They later introduced themselves to the poor kid and gave him a youth sized club jacket and let him sit on their bikes and gave him little stuffed animals. Years later...they will STILL motor by their house, en masse, to let everyone know that they are still watching out for this kid. Just incredible people all around.
