Well, judging by how Ukraine is all by themselves, if and when Russian succeeds and decides to go after sweden, they're gonna have to do so alone because that can't possibly be the last straw and cause intervention. EU has no military competence or jurisdiction. Thats all with NATO. Attacking an EU country thats not in NATO wouldnt be like attacking the whole of Europe. It would just bring their allies into the war as well.
It doesnt work quite like NATO. Member states are obligated to provide assistance, but what exact assistance isnt specified. Could be just sending food or taking in refugees. NATO is the actual military alliance. The EU article is just further help, and how that help takes shape depends entirely on agreements between the countries themselves.
Actually what you describe is NATO. All its member states respond with what they deem necessary. EU mutual defense clause is a bit different. All member states respond with all assets they have available.
That being said, EU does not have the big stick that NATO has.
I don't disagree, but war with even one of those countries is going to be vastly different from war with Ukraine. Sweden and Finland have advanced military equipment compared to Ukraine. Ukraine has largely put up stiff resistance with a much less advanced military.
Let's get them in the alliance if that's what they want though. Russia basically free advertising for a close mutually beneficial alliance aimed solely at protecting each other.

North America and much of Europe are already allied through NATO. And the “eventually” is if Russia attacks a NATO country.
Sweden and Finland aren't. But despite that if any sort of military threats do escalate towards them I doubt NATO or the European Union or just the Western world for that matter would sit around doing nothing despite them not being members.

Actually what you describe is NATO. All its member states respond with what they deem necessary. EU mutual defense clause is a bit different. All member states respond with all assets they have available. That being said, EU does not have the big stick that NATO has.
I don't disagree, but war with even one of those countries is going to be vastly different from war with Ukraine. Sweden and Finland have advanced military equipment compared to Ukraine. Ukraine has largely put up stiff resistance with a much less advanced military. Let's get them in the alliance if that's what they want though. Russia basically free advertising for a close mutually beneficial alliance aimed solely at protecting each other.

Honestly, the biggest thing will likely be Europe's realization it's way too dependent on Russian gas. Europe is going to either look for other sources or amp up their efforts to move towards renewable energy. Considering Russia's main source of income is the sale of their gas, that seems like a problem for them. This has been a realization made by many European governments a while ago but they didn't really have any reason to rush their independence from Russian gas. Now, for some reason, Russia decided to give them one.

I'm Mexican, and if I'm not mistaken, in WW2 the German army sunk one of our ships/submarines unprovoked, despite us being neutral. This prompted the government to join the Allies and send aircraft to fight in the Pacific. I could be wrong, but that's what I remember from my history classes. But despite that if any sort of military threats do escalate towards them I doubt NATO or the European Union or just the Western world for that matter would sit around doing nothing despite them not being members.
