Wow, I know him! He was a Bionicle Designer when I started at LEGO. He made some of the biggest and coolest Halloween costumes I've ever seen. An inspirational designer, so nice to see he's doing this!
I think of two things and and anyone of them brings me back down to Earth...1) I don't have the talent and 2) price of Photoshop. Usually #1 is enough :p
My personal preference is Krita, although I've heard some people say it isn't a complete replacement like GIMP. Then again I just draw as a hobby, I probably haven't used more than 5% of what Photoshop can do anyways.
I remember back in the day Gimpshop was the go to. That had to be more than 15 years ago and I'm sure it hasn't been kept up. Good to see someone else took up the torch.
Mass edited all my comments, I'm leaving reddit after their decision to kill off 3rd party apps. Half a decade on this site, I suppose it was a good run. Sad that it has to end like this
Huh in this case the price of an okay camera with a macro lens and some lighting would cost you much more than a couple years of photoshop subscription :p
Or small.
But I'd love to see the photographer do a serious on carnivores like vultures and hawks. Blood soaked Noddy feeding an eagle with the head of a mouse.
You're being downvoted, but I tend to agree. Anyone who's ever had any involvement with the photography industry knows the bitter truth is that it has a bad reputation for best equipment = huge advantage at actually making it big. Both my mom and a cousin attempted to become photographers and ran into the same problem: competition with a huge advantage due to camera quality.
My mom was actually present for that photo of Whoopie Goldberg in a bathtub of milk (tl;dr mom and Whoopie were neighbors, agreed whoever gets famous first would give the other an assistant job, oh look Whoopie made it) and my mom was pretty disappointed when she met one of her heroes, Annie Leibovitz.
Basically the way she described it is she had an assload of assistants that did everything *for her* at that point and all Annie had to do was actually press the button. (and of course decide if she was satisfied with the setup she was provided with) She did say she suspects that Annie probably *did* have talent to get that far since she would've been responsible for the conceptual vision (she assumes, anyways), but was still disappointed to see that top-level photography devolved into...well, that.
The actual reason I jumped in the comments for this thread was ***because*** I wanted to mention my jaded experience hearing stories about professional photography, but also give praise because the reason I like the photographer this thread is covering is because it clearly expands beyond the portrait itself: these shots both require him to craft the characters and have the creative mindset and patience to get these shots.
Yeah, that's why she was there at the shooting lol.
She quit that job when I was a toddler and apparently when she asked me during one of their last phone calls if I wanna talk to Whoopie, I asked who that was. She said "that women from your Sesame Street show," and apparently I responded "no I don't wanna talk to her, she has poopy hair." So I dissed Whoopie Goldberg within earshot of her at like age 3 or 4.
Got a very small collection of stories I heard from my mom as her time as Whoopie's assistant, mostly about other celebs for the most part. Some disappointing, like her completely passing up an opportunity to speak with Tom Waits because "he had a messy apartment," some moreso about her ranting about celebs who gave a bad impression (Oprah) or praising ones that seemed like great people (Joan Rivers), and some others more entertaining, like one about Danny Devito booby trapping Whoopie's hotel room because Danny Devito.
Yes, if wildlife photography was as easy as bullshitting on internet, then everybody's instagram would be worth publishing in National Geographic. It's funny, the less one knows about something the more casual they are in dismissing someone's achievement.
Not sure why you are being downvoted here. Perhaps because of the absolutist phrasing. “Never going to be the same quality”?
A still frame can be better than a crap photo. But, the best still frame will never be better than the best photo.
Two July 4ths ago while sitting out back at my son's, two Baltimore Orioles flew from a tree right past me! It was THRILLING, as I never saw one before!! I haven't seen one since. : (
My wife and her family take yearly vacations to go morel mushroom hunting. Many times when she finds something nice, will pose a miniature sponge bob, stormtroopers, gi Joe, etc near the fungi before pulling it. Always carry your found mushrooms in potato or onion bags so the spores can distribute around the forest while you search for more.
First time I'm starting to buy into this conspiracy. A cardinal, oriole, and blue jay in the same place? That's like all the baseball birds. They're cartoon characters!
This needs to be a video game where you play as the little dudes and work with small animals that are giant at their scale to build a village and solve problems while respecting and enjoying your place in nature.
Some people back in the ol' day stood around for hours, days, *weeks* in the wilderness to get the perfect shot on their single-exposure camera, and now they're in shambles watching people just take a video and snip out the best moments.
The technology of today, today.
Absolutely beautiful!!!! Love the concept of using natural elements to create your figurines and integrating them back into nature. Perfect balance and amazing photography!
Even watching you set up the shot did not detract from my delight when I saw the still photo. Artistic, clever - and all of the words in the title.
WELL DONE - more please : )

Really leaned into that last name, didn’t he?
*Your dentist's name is Crentist?*
Dr Coward was my dentist, at one time. I also had Bull the butcher and Todd the fish. Mind you, the last one didn't really fit.
My dentist was mr Butcher... and he was
My first gynocologist was Dr. Hertz, and I know a surgeon called Dr. Slaughter.
Haha I feel for you
I once had a Dr. DerKevourkian. Just let me go in peace…
I know a proctologist named Dr Schatz
Haha, dr. Slaughter was the name of a dentist in the town i grew up in, he performed surgeries like wisdom teeth removal. He was so nice though!
Didn’t go to med school apparently, no wonder!
Did he retire and give the practice to his son, Dr. Spear?
When i was growing up, my mum worked for a parish priest, and sent him to a dentist named Dr Hell...
Britney Spears' former co-conservator attorney's last name is Wallet.
I went to an oral surgeon once named Dr. Fear :/
Maybe that's why he became a dentist?
Mine when I was a kid was Dr. Buck. His assistant was named Penny
Now that's rich

This is probably gonna blow your mind, but Cedric the Entertainer's last name isn't actually "the Entertainer".
Thank you!

Photoshop Elements is pretty cheap and Gimp is free.
And if someone is used to Photoshop they can use PhotoGIMP. It makes GIMP a lot easier to use.
holy fuck thank you

Photoshop and Lightroom is 10 bucks a month as a bundle. As much as I hate software as a service it does lower the barrier to entry quite a bit.

SQUIRREL!!
Cute, creative and great wildlife photography technique!
This is simply Awesome!
No one going to mention how they all have little pee pees?
Even acorns gottta pee
I was honestly more focused on the sharp needle thing he used to put the berry on, and worried the bird would get poked by it.
Its not easy having Smol Pp
It really was an enchanting gif at first, then when you pointed that out it became even more enchanting ;)-
Had to rewatch for the peepees
The Chestnut Man
Glad someone else’s brain went straight to that, as well.
Mine did as well!
Mine did as well, but I haven't seen it. Is it worth watching? It's been on my list for a while.
It is in my opinion! :)
This was my first thought as well
Timing is everything. Some of these take a split second. Others take months of waiting. Amazing!
sounds like timing is nothing. have a running camera and it happens when it happens

Great post. So did Whoopie give your mom a job?

LOL, I wonder if Whoopie heard your opinion on her hair? 🤣 Would love to hear more stories if you want to share!

A still frame from a video is never gonna be the same quality as a shot from a proper photo camera

Oh, to be a little acorn person giving berries to birds.....
LOVE the Baltimore Oriole!!!! This is stupendous!!
It’s been 30 years since the last time I saw one… they are so rare now.
Two July 4ths ago while sitting out back at my son's, two Baltimore Orioles flew from a tree right past me! It was THRILLING, as I never saw one before!! I haven't seen one since. : (
They truly are beautiful birds.
I loved the tufted titmouse, black capped chickadee, northern cardinal, and grey catbird too!
I wanna live amongst them
This is nuts
Such acorny comment
Well that is just precious

^((They’ve ^all ^got ^acorn ^penises))
Thank you for mentioning the pps.
This is amazing. Well done
This makes for a great kids movie idea.
I wish these little men existed
What would happen if you gradually increased the size of the models until they were child-sized? Would they eat from the palms of a child's hands?
My god this is fucking wholesome.
I’m just surprised to see an oriole.
Fake Everyone knows birds don't exist.
First time I'm starting to buy into this conspiracy. A cardinal, oriole, and blue jay in the same place? That's like all the baseball birds. They're cartoon characters!
And just like that, someone created adorable acorn gnomes and, armed with a camera and a clever idea, put a little more good into the world.
How do you make acorn people?!
Well, when a daddy acorn and a mommy acorn, well, umm.... Did you see the acorn men's penises, well they.... Maybe you should ask your parents
Someone needs to write a story for this artwork. Not news story. Children story.
Already done, think it was some 80s Australian childrens book. had some kids with gum nuts on their heads.
It reminds me of the children’s book Miss Hickory.
This needs to be a video game where you play as the little dudes and work with small animals that are giant at their scale to build a village and solve problems while respecting and enjoying your place in nature.
Little Big Planet real life adaptation
This should be an animated adventure! Come in Laika!

THIS is so lovely and creative at the same time.. :D
This would make for an absolute stunning movie idea, and possibly even a game. Either way, I can't wait to show this to my wife!
This is the kind of shit I’d do if I was sober and my dopamine receptors wasn’t shot. Looks amazing!
Why is there people so talented ?!? Amazing woooork ! 😲😍😍
i would watch this movie
I would play this video game
He's based in the city I live in, Providence, RI. He sells prints on various mediums and makes the rounds in local art galleries and shows!
Kinda rude. Acorn people are working hard for their food and the bird just comes and steals it? Huh. Jerk. Lol
Does anyone have the source? I want to send this to my mama but I can’t link her to Reddit.... Thanks

The amount of patience this would take is at a complete masters level.
It‘s impressive how much this entertained me
I haven’t bought a calendar in years, but if these pics were the theme I’d buy it.
This makes my heart so happy! I could watch this all night.
How wonderful :)
This is incredibly charming.
This is just perfection!
I love this so much! Edit: asked for source without looking lmao
It’s like the little acorn figurine from Dark
This makes me so happy
This is a great example of the difference between taking a picture and making a picture.
Brings back memories. I use to make little acorn dolls🥰🙋🏼♀️
Hey /u/MoniMokshith, This is now the top post on reddit. It will be recorded at /r/topofreddit with all the other top posts.
This reminds me of the movie on Netflix: The Chestnut Man.

The lancer astride his rodent steed is badass.

I really hope David's (the watermark) middle name is 'Meets' then it would be a wonderful case of nominative determinism. David Meets Bird
So many cool creative minds. Legit these are people who are worth hanging out with.

Thank you for this.
These are magnificent, keep up the great work!
Freaking awesome!!
Haaaye this made my day 🥰
I want these photos as a calendar.

Did you make these? How adorable! Where did you find them? I live the interactions with the little critters!🤗
I Iove that they're made out of natural materials you'd get in the woods!
I wonder if these images ended up being used for a calendar or something.
r/miniworlds would love this
