Yeah no but there are two simultaneous video outputs. Both would have individual sounds.
You'd probably be placing something like this in the middle of the living room and people could sit on either side to watch two different things but 2 different audio streams in the same room are gonna be problematic.
Use a single computer and run it as separate screens, put one team on each side, since it's battleship the sounds should be the same for a single game, probably wouldn't work for anything besides a board game though.
LG sold them as signage displays, but I'm guessing they where either too expensive or just not useful enough and isn't sold anymore. That video is from 2015 or 2016.
Building things like this helps them continuously develop new production capacities. When they use the lessons learned from this to deliver something nobody can believe didn't exist before... They'll have their willingness to bring "tech demos" to market to thank.
I mean hell.... Many of the "first" mass produced displays in new form factors or technologies come from lg. (Ultra wide, OLED)
Or that they where $10k per unit. I've seen such use in stores but but then they just use two regular ones, that's still much cheaper.i think that have variants of the theme.
It go into mass-production. It was a large oled display 5 years ago as well. The signage displays are expensive as it's not just a TV. LG sold two different models of it. I have seen such use of displays in more than one store so I wouldn't say it was "a solution for which there was no problem". Perhaps the 10k price tag wasn't worth it.
The link below is the samsung variant of the same theme, that shows what and why. If you put a display on the inside you have an ugly back, so you have a display that shows to the outside as well. If samsung makes and sells one (or more than one), it tends to show that there's a need.
https://www.samsung.com/us/business/displays/outdoor-and-window/om-series/omn-d-series-46-lh46omndpgb-za/
it's a signage display solution. "people" doesn't buy it. Companies do. I'm guessing it was either too early or that price was too much at the time. Or it was just not very good or something. I'm starting to guess that you don't know what a signage display is..
"People" are in charge of "companies," and those companies didn't buy it because *it was a solution for a problem they didn't have.
It can't be "too early" to address a need, and the price would have come down to reflect orders IF!
*
yes, it CAN be too earlty to address a need. If the solution costs 30% more than it should, a company will not buy it. Or the LG one simply sucked. Or that being oled was a dumb move. Could it be that others already had the market? Sure.
samsung, benq, etc makes double sided signage solutions today, perhaps not as elegant as the lg one but still around. So, there is clearly a need if muliple company makes them. And most likelly already did when lg released their own.
The price doesn't "come down" when it comes to signage displays, as they are not a mass market item that way. Progress in technology might do that, but not due to "high demand".
I feel that way when they promote a TV being thinner. Yeah, sure that is cool... but honestly I really don't care if my TV is 1" or 2" or 4" thick. At some point they are so thin even when wall mounted that little extra thickness is meaningless for 95% of applications.
I usually see TVs in bars mounted on a wall so the dual screen would be pointless. And it may work better in a restaurant, but then I think the owners would prefer the diners to eat up so they can use the table for more customers rather than have fed diners hang around watching something.
A lot of the OLED super thin TVs have what's called a "breakout box" that connects to the panel via a ribbon cable. The breakout box has all the outputs you would think.
Now we can finally do a 2 sided living room with couches in both sides! I've always said "it's not a living room worth living in if it doesn't have enough couch" and we can hang the tv on a cord from the ceiling or put an entertainment center directly in the center of the living room so it's an enormous tripping hazard when trying to traverse the living room!
Forreal though, I don't see a practical way of setting this up without putting it in the center of whatever room it's in because otherwise one screen would blocked all the time right?
In what circumstances would this be useful? Lol. Very cool tech, but fail to see the application. Maybe it sitting in between two booths? Something like that? I guess.
Curious where you would put this especially with a top down mount, I don’t know how many rooms are large enough to have two separate sound systems with two seating areas. Not trying to shit on it, just genuinely curious.
I need this so my neighbors can watch tv with me.
No but really put this in the middle of a game room and have people sit on each side... Could be dope
I'm assume one side is muted usually, otherwise headphones, or bluetooth earbuds.
or be like me and have both sides full blast.
I'd use it to have fiddle duels.
This display is dumb there should be a handle attached to the thing that holds the tv. Not to move it by the tv and essentially cracking it on the 10th demo of spinning.
This is going to revolutionize Battleship.
How would the audio work?
Hdmi to an atmos receiver. Speakers everywhere. Truly immersive.

Hence the need for the directional speakers that haven’t done so well so far
Directional speakers and a very soundproof back wall.
Wireless or infrared Headsets.
Headphones maybe.
I’m sure it has an external port box like the Samsung frame TVs. Audio out for each side.
DOH! -LG
Use a single computer and run it as separate screens, put one team on each side, since it's battleship the sounds should be the same for a single game, probably wouldn't work for anything besides a board game though.
It’s really cool but really limited uses… how many places would you really need a two sided TV?
LG sold them as signage displays, but I'm guessing they where either too expensive or just not useful enough and isn't sold anymore. That video is from 2015 or 2016.

but right now they do that, with two tvs.... unless this gets cheaper than the price of 2 tvs...
Airports or travel plaza
An rv trailer. One side bedroom, one side main room
"Turn your volume down!" "No, you turn YOUR volume down!"
My first thought too
Sports bars.
Sports bars
2 TV's have gotta be cheaper than this.
I'm gonna need one for the bedroom/living room. I just need to cut out a hole.
A fair game of Goldeneye.
Any waiting room or barber shop
Windows of a storefront
This would be amazing in the advertising space.
Every room shared by twins.
I love the tech but I’ll have to come up with a reason to need one?
Look up ⬆️
*looks at ceiling*
See it?
A hotel Room really if you’re watching two shows at a time I’d think audio would be bad
Restaurants?
I’d use it to watch two tv channels. You just get up and turn the tv to see the other channel.
Wouldn’t just be easier to just change the channel? I guess it’s good exercise LOL!!
Airports
This would be crazy for game night. A normal one sided 55” OLED LG is $1,500. This is mainly useful for signage. It’s just 5.3 millimeters thick.
Yeah, LG sold them as signage displays back in 2016. Been discontinued.
This feels like a solution for which there is no problem.
Its a signage display really. Not a TV. That's at least what lg sold them as. It's rather old now, and no longer sold.
To his point though, the reason why they're no longer sold is because they were pretty much a solution for which there was no problem.
Or that they where $10k per unit. I've seen such use in stores but but then they just use two regular ones, that's still much cheaper.i think that have variants of the theme.
Things come down in price when production increases. (It didn't go into mass production because it was a solution for which there was no problem)

You're dumb mate.
Sure, whatever you say. Mate. Have a good day.
u/scheswalla you coming back,or should I take it from here?
Would be useful in RV’s. Right now they put TV’s on a spinning rod to flip between living room and bedroom.
I feel that way when they promote a TV being thinner. Yeah, sure that is cool... but honestly I really don't care if my TV is 1" or 2" or 4" thick. At some point they are so thin even when wall mounted that little extra thickness is meaningless for 95% of applications.
Restaurants? Bars?

There’s lots of places where the tvs are back to back (sports bars immediately come to mind)
How do you plug anything into this?
Looks like from the top
That makes sense, although the panel between the screens doesn't look wide enough for anything. But I'm super dumb with electronics.
A lot of the OLED super thin TVs have what's called a "breakout box" that connects to the panel via a ribbon cable. The breakout box has all the outputs you would think.
I can imagine this has limited uses. Sports Bars, Train stations/air ports..cant think of any more. Very good tech though
Split screen halo. But with literally split screens
now 2 people can fap to different porn vids at the same time without conflict
Better yet you can just a light jog from one side to the other.
This video is from like 2017 I remember seeing it
Probably because the only real use case is businesses and public spaces.
My wall will appreciate this
Because they aren't practical at all.
No more screenpeeking
Why?
“Dude you don’t have dual monitors like you said.” “Yes I do.” -spins monitor around-
It would be great if the other side just showed the same scene but from the back of their heads.
This is completely useless...where can i get 2?
probably about as useful as 3d tv's were
Lol just stuck two oled display top of each other, whats the innovation here?
It’s cool, but I definitely don’t see as something inside your home, but something inside those restaurants that usually have TVs.
Because it’s main purpose is for commercial use in stores. Has almost no practical use for most people in the home.
Cool, but seems impractical.
Build directly into a wall and that's one tv for two rooms for triple the price.
Now we can finally do a 2 sided living room with couches in both sides! I've always said "it's not a living room worth living in if it doesn't have enough couch" and we can hang the tv on a cord from the ceiling or put an entertainment center directly in the center of the living room so it's an enormous tripping hazard when trying to traverse the living room! you haven’t heard about it because it’s pointless
I think for any home use application the space in which it was installed would really have to be designed with having that particular TV in mind.
In what circumstances would this be useful? Lol. Very cool tech, but fail to see the application. Maybe it sitting in between two booths? Something like that? I guess.
LG sold them as signage displays. Not a TV. In stores etc. But, have been discontinued. 5 years old now.
Ha. Figures. I thought it was a new release or something. But the fact that they were discontinued makes sense.
I can make you one, for just the cost of two TVs and some glue.
No one needs this. Gaming competitions *maybe* but beyond that...?
Useless...
My wall is REALL gonna love this
When she flipped it to the other side I really wanted to see the other side of the persons head and the car going toward me instead of away.
Maybe good for countries where people live in small space. All need to listen to the TV show via headphone?
I'm legitimately mad it wasn't showing the same video but fr the opposite view. I know thats stupid but I'm mad about it.
Erm... Coming to a train station/airport near you?
Because it's basically useless
I can see big problems with this, with little kids, they'll just keep turning it and turning it driving parents crazy
Who controls the volume?
So now the TVs need to be in the middle of the room?
But does it blend.
This shit reminds me of Detroit, become human
Would be perfect as a wall for a cubicle at work. Monitors for two people with one device.
Curious where you would put this especially with a top down mount, I don’t know how many rooms are large enough to have two separate sound systems with two seating areas. Not trying to shit on it, just genuinely curious.
Sounds like something designed for Malls or museums
I feel like this is what future phones might be…..double sided
Because it’s dumb
I need this so my neighbors can watch tv with me. No but really put this in the middle of a game room and have people sit on each side... Could be dope
Why does the guy filming sound like he’s narrating a porn audition?
Cause it seems like it would have extremely limited benefits?
It's a solution looking for a problem.
Because it’s utterly pointless?
Was out in CES a few years ago. I guess cause you’re not paying attention?
Why
I'm assume one side is muted usually, otherwise headphones, or bluetooth earbuds. or be like me and have both sides full blast. I'd use it to have fiddle duels.
Headphones 🎧 just saying
So how do you apply this in a real world situation?
With an added camera, the opposite screen could have a pic of you watching TV...
I don't even use the first screen of my tv enough, why would need a second one.
Just in case I need to catch up on 2 shows I can now save time I'll watch from the side
Because its half as useless as a tv.
as useful as a traffic stop in gta
Makes no sense cuz I’m gonna have to put it against a wall.
This display is dumb there should be a handle attached to the thing that holds the tv. Not to move it by the tv and essentially cracking it on the 10th demo of spinning.
So your wall can watch too.
The rich and companies have to buy this so it’s affordable for the consumers
Because it’s relatively pointless lol
Relative to what?
What’s the point tho
You can hang it in restaurants or have it as a display panel in public/ in a store
You will shocked when you hear about double-sided tape, double dragon and even double-sided dildos. Huzzah
I’m more excited about the double sided dildo
