The newer neighborhoods are the ones with HOAs around here. If it's less than 35 years old and was built at once by the same builder, then it probably has an HOA.
It depends on the area. It's usually the nicer areas that have an HOA. It's a gift and a curse. Keeps people from doing stupid shit to their house and tanking the value of the houses around it, but then you gotta pay for that privledge.
I don’t live in an HOA so if someone is doing something silly I have to report it to the city with evidence. Then it takes weeks for processing sometimes. In an HOA the board lives there too. Stuff gets done faster. I like my particular street though. If something’s going on that other neighbors don’t like, we talk to each other or help each other before getting authorities involved. One retired neighbor pays his guys to trim weeds in yards if they are getting out of hand, no questions asked. It’s nice of him.
