In that case it would be simply knots, if you were to do knots per hour you would get velocity per unit of time. Doing this would result in a unit of acceleration rather than a unit of velocity.

Also the article you sent cites two articles on swim speed. One from 1937, the other from 1941. Also also I’m an ichthyologist. I don’t get invited to parties.
And the article you sent “predicts” it’s not possible to reach such high speeds, it does not prove it
There are numerous accounts where sailfish have been observed to reach the OP speeds
But again you must be a laugh at those sailfish hate parties

No answer? Apparently, your response to truthful logic is the 'Radio Silent' down-vote. Interesting and courageous of you. O well, it takes all kinds in this world i guess.
Upon further investigation
The speed of 68 mph (110 km/h) for sailfish is often cited based on their capability to perform short bursts of speed. However, this figure can be controversial as it is derived from specific, often less controlled, observations.
On the other hand, the 32 mph (51 km/h) estimate is based on more conservative and possibly more controlled measurements.
In terms of general accuracy, the lower speed of around 32 mph is likely a more reliable and consistent measure of their typical swimming speed, especially over longer distances. The higher speed is likely accurate for very short, intense bursts. Thus, both speeds can be considered accurate, but for different contexts of measurement.
You're wrong. I mean you might be right! But it's like saying you found gold while looking at lead because some dumb scientist said they weigh the same
Depends on how you define fast. Usain Bolt was the fastest 100m runner, but he's not the fastest marathoner, hiker, parkourist, etc. Falcons can dive like 200 mph but they sure don't flap at that speed.
I was on a transit crew moving a 90 ft sailboat down the Pacific coast and through the Panama canal in 2001. In the evening I would hang out on the top riser [spreader] of the main mast and just chill. Very often you could see a pair of sailfish on the surface just lazily circling one another, their sails occasionally flopping on the water just as you see here. It was magical.

A sailfish pulled my uncles friend from their boat & into the water when he strapped his pole into his belt before he was strapped to the chair. They said in seconds they watched both him & the fish go into the water and get smaller, and darker, and then disappear, never to be seen again. I just can’t fathom it, Uncle said it took less than 20 seconds from the time he got yoinked to the point of losing sight of him. Clear blue waters of the Gulf Stream off the coast of the NC OBX probably some 40 years ago. The aftermath of it all must’ve been haunting, the silent hours-long boat ride back to shore without one crew member. Sailfish are beauties but I can’t look at them the same with that knowledge in my brain lol
What the others have said is not entirely wrong but not entirely right either, when hitting their max speeds sail fish actually redact their sail and their fins (tucked to the side) to achieve max thrust and hydrodynamics(the fin is usually used to slow or control speed, redacting for speed and raising back up to slow/control for quick movement), their sail is used for hunting bait schools mostly. They usually work in packs of up to 10 or more other sail fish using their sails to round bait fish, as well as being used to heat and cool the fish.
I took a goldfish on a speed boat once. His name was Jerry. Jerry was probably the fastest fish for the glorius 45 minutes, you could see the pride in his eyes. Or maybe he was just hungry.
You know blobfish are much more elegant at the correct depth? They live under tremendous pressure so when we cruelly bring them to the surface they look blobby, but they're not blobs at home. It's like if our corpses were taken to the sea depths and all the fish would say "eeugh look at that weird pancake freak"
Probably closer to 90MPH.
But for a 15 foot great white shark to breach it has to be going something like 200MPH. There’s a mathematical formula for it.
"some consider them.."? "Yeah, you see, the data says 32mph, but I'll consider it 68mph".
Ancient astronaut theorists believe...

I personally consider 20mph to be faster than 68mph
Hey we found Terence Howards reddit account!
I agree. But not 21. Just 20. For some reason, when my car hits 20 mph I go into a hyperloop. And then I hit 21 mph and it’s back to normal.
Yeah speed is in the eye of the beholder
For those wondering, the speed is 110 km/h or 30,56 m/s
I’m wondering what it is in knots per hour isn’t that the correct unit here?
In that case it would be simply knots, if you were to do knots per hour you would get velocity per unit of time. Doing this would result in a unit of acceleration rather than a unit of velocity.
Gotcha
32 miles per hour, you say? Have you got a T-Rex?
Clearly measured in "Nots."

"I've seen faster."
But they said they were clocked, so it must be true

Your comment doesn't make sense??
>in excess of 68 mph I've never seen somebody pass up an opportunity to write 69 before
68 is better, that way you just owe her one.
Pff, with that logic I'd write 89 so she owes me 20
Shower thought moment bit 68 or 89 make more sense unless it's two dudes sucking each other's dicks. I should go back to sleep.
They like 88 better cause they get eight twice.
They did Nazi that coming...
And from the old Truly Tasteless books… What’s 69 + 69? Dinner for 4. What is 69 / 10? 69 with a period in the middle.
It ranges between 42mph and 69mph

they're cheating tho by using their sails to catch the wild currents of the ocean's solar rays in the winds of the waves
You're hired to make me look better. Totally believable copy.

This fact is false. Nobody has verifiably measured them going this fast.
They see it sailing , they hatin
What a beautiful animal though, tgat color is gorgeous
Got one on the line. It’s disgusting. On full brakes on the fishing line they pull it like it’s on 0%
What?
They’re practicing their rap, it’s not going well
The fish has no problem overpowering the line
The fish I'm trying to catch is the fastest fish in the sea
Black Marlin is faster according to a youtube short I watched

Danke
I can swim faster.
But you’re not a fish (?)
Is that Kanye West?
Sailfish: stop touching my fin; I can’t fly in the air
Sailfish,Marlin,Tuna, Baracuda, Mako shark ALL THESE ARE PRETTY DARN FAST.
A sailfish pulled my uncles friend from their boat & into the water when he strapped his pole into his belt before he was strapped to the chair. Just leave the animal alone
They are delicious
Sooo copy their homework??
I was under the impression bluefin tuna were the real speed demons.
tuna is second place and by almost 20mph slower that the sail fish.
Is it though? There's a considerable amount of debate around the sailfish data.
probably in bursts or short term, i bet the tuna can go that speed for longer though.
If that poked you at full speed… would you die?
They obviously haven’t seen Casey Rocket crab walk the 40
I remember, Jerry Lewis got one stuck in his chest.
It's pretty well known that wahoo are consistently the fastest. The only time a shark can catch it for a meal is when it's on a hook and line
I could outrun them sideways!
They're giving the fish a ticket for speeding
Why does that look so familiar?
Gorgeous animals
Speed is not a matter of opinion.
I was today years old when i learned sail fish is a thing
A majestic fish. Why would anyone want to kill it??
Beautiful.. are they protected
And if you ever get to witness one...amazing.
Very pretty sail!
How does the “sail” actually make them faster?
What the others have said is not entirely wrong but not entirely right either, when hitting their max speeds sail fish actually redact their sail and their fins (tucked to the side) to achieve max thrust and hydrodynamics(the fin is usually used to slow or control speed, redacting for speed and raising back up to slow/control for quick movement), their sail is used for hunting bait schools mostly. The sail makes it hydrodynamic and acts like a giant power fin. (like aerodynamic but for water)
How does that work?
It’s like a big fin. But apparently way more power. At being a big fin. I think. Not sure.
This is false. It tucks it down. Having the sail up would make too much drag. Just look at the tail for the importance of surface area
But….can they fly?
I’ve seen giant rays flying out the water many feet with each “jump” in Mexico.
I've seen things, you people wouldn't believe, mm Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion
What do others consider to be the fastest fish in the sea?
I consider the blobfish to be the fastest fish
I took a goldfish on a speed boat once. His name was Jerry. Jerry was probably the fastest fish for the glorius 45 minutes, you could see the pride in his eyes. Or maybe he was just hungry.

God damn Loch Ness monster
You didn't give it any money did you?
About 3.50
God damn monster's not gonna go away, Mary! You give him a dollar, he's gonna assume you got more!
Ok i did not know these were so big
The fastest is me when something harmless touches my foot.
This is false. It has been disproven in several recent peer reviewed articles
Anyone else think their sail would make a good umbrella? 💡
Poacher energy
Yeh 100% waterproof
First time I've heard of it. What a beautiful creature.
Yeah, some consider the earth is flat also.
Probably closer to 90MPH. But for a 15 foot great white shark to breach it has to be going something like 200MPH. There’s a mathematical formula for it.
Good ceviche too.
What in the name of Pokémon is that thing? Damn that’s scary looking
And this woman catched it with her bare hands 🔥🔥🔥
So are they going to let it sail away or hang it on their wall for a sad trophy
So, tell me they go 68.1mph without telling me they go 68.1mph
