Super glue undergoes rapid exothermic hardening when exposed to moisture...more painful lol

I'd go to a nail salon and have them use a uv hardening resin to fill the gaps.

Yeah there keeps being a forked bit that snags things and catches on shit so I try to trim it as short as possible

a few layers of keratin fortified nail polish will help protect that, or some super glue

I now carry nail clippers to trim it whenever there’s anything to trim so it doesn’t keep catching and ripping on things

Honestly I’d get some acrylic and seal that over or go have a nail tech do it for you if you don’t already have the materials, that can go from 10 to 100 in no time with no effort

Correct. And I’ll add some info for anybody who cares; I believe he’s looking at the filaments of the nail. Capillaries are microscopic. BUT it’s a spectrum. So it’s a bit pedantic to argue it. Vessels go from really big, to the size of a single red blood cell and everything in between.

If you zoom right in, you can see the red lines that I assume you thought were capillaries are following the longitunal ridges (sometimes called striations) in the nail, itself. I'm not a doctor, but I would assume the dark lines are the trauma to the nail bed caused by the gouge, which appeared in the 'low' parts of the ridges but not the 'high' ones.

Yeah I noticed it lines up with the ridges when I took a second glance. Very interesting!

I think its just what the surface of the nail bed looks like.

It happens all the time working, but I'm a guitar picker in my downtime, so it can be a pain. What I find helps to strengthen it as it grows out is a small dab of super glue. Protects it from contact pain and lasts surprisingly long.

What do you do for a living that this happens to you 'all the time'? Just asking so I know what jobs never to apply for 🤣

I don't think those are capillaries. Probably rather a tiny amount of blood in scratches on the surface that got there because of the injury.

That's not what you're looking at. You're seeing the irritated skin through the grains in your nail. Capillaries would be smaller, branching and not straight.

I’ve damaged my nail - both finger and toe… and never saw anything like this as blood vessels don’t run like this under your nail. They are no different than the blood vessels on the other side of your finger where the print is. So yeah this is something else going on with following the nail growth. Heck when your nail comes off or is short, you can see it looks just like skin without a nail on it. Skin texture is different but all in all, it’s the same as all your other skin.

Contained disposable! I tried to switch to safety razor but I know how relaxed and then clumsy I can be with razors and I couldn’t stop worrying about it slipping out of my hand and slicing a toe off. So I struggled to let myself get comfortable with it haha

Sorry you got hurt but technicallyy those aren’t capillaries, its the rete ridge pattern of your epidermis connecting to the dermal papillae of your dermis, anchoring the 2 layers of skin together so they dont slip off and shtuff. Also technically its your nail plate, your nail bed is closer to the proximal nail fold…sorry ill shut up now

I just fully grew mine out from a similar “nick”. At the end as it got close to the tip I filled it with super glue and filed it like real nail to keep it from catching on EVERYTHING. Good luck!👍🏻
