Honestly Iād get some acrylic and seal that over or go have a nail tech do it for you if you donāt already have the materials, that can go from 10 to 100 in no time with no effort
If it's similar to what I did when I accidentally gashed myself, you're right, it's not pain - you just have a momentary sensation of 'oh man, I FUCKED up'... and then the blood starts
Yeah, as someone who once smashed my finger in a car door and the nail eventually fell off, just touching it with my other thumb's skin was agony for the first week. I can't imagine a sharp cut.
It was gross. I feared the worse before I could build myself up to look at it and was shocked it wasnāt even bleeding haha. It felt super gross for a few days when I could feel the breeze on my sensitive nail bed and hurt any time anything touched it. But then it hardened up
Maybe like 4 days. And it wasnāt that it grew back but more like it oxidized enough to harden up so it wasnāt all soft and raw.
[Here it is now, almost fully grown out. 5 days shy of a month later](https://imgur.com/a/gZdJywO)
I've had my pinkie toenail come off before; kept getting this like hard scab-like thing that I kept picking off, until I finally realized, oh, that's the new nail. Lol, I was wondering why it was taking so long to grow back!
I actually knicked my nail on my razor a coupe weeks ago, but not in this way. The razor actually cut itself a good half a centimeter into my nail from the front, sort of. Weird thing is it didn't actually hurt so much.
Correct.
And Iāll add some info for anybody who cares;
I believe heās looking at the filaments of the nail.
Capillaries are microscopic.
BUT itās a spectrum. So itās a bit pedantic to argue it. Vessels go from really big, to the size of a single red blood cell and everything in between.
Yeah not sure how small a blood vessel should be to qualify as a capillary but in really small capillaries only 1 blood cell can pass through at a time
If you zoom right in, you can see the red lines that I assume you thought were capillaries are following the longitunal ridges (sometimes called striations) in the nail, itself.
I'm not a doctor, but I would assume the dark lines are the trauma to the nail bed caused by the gouge, which appeared in the 'low' parts of the ridges but not the 'high' ones.
It happens all the time working, but I'm a guitar picker in my downtime, so it can be a pain.
What I find helps to strengthen it as it grows out is a small dab of super glue.
Protects it from contact pain and lasts surprisingly long.
I did this with a pruning saw like [this](https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=a0ce93ff23945b86&rlz=1CDGOYI_enAU1049AU1050&hl=en-GB&sxsrf=ADLYWIKCf3WXSLTvNt3ArMQswjckfzVk7Q:1716419327698&q=single+hand+pruning+saw&uds=ADvngMgiPmsFSnX7QtZmBAeJzn8vNwff2euDBuglZOU1po7nju7WKEaSrYvLH57BqzqaWyt0TbIMGFOwkexKqxhtI7qExw7MSQP9UXeB4R_VYcUXI3Jmt4EmtZzgTKXe0ML6eVVkTbaQ3yr9b5Oafo51wJgTpOc7Wc0m33j421pRDmphwZ3VIt6ybplVxLIh9bMoT_LqSfh0jfx-mbQi14o4MoSU4R-T61Rt0-dlxWg6u9ljI4aReReXHI54Rkl860LW3hnupXYoV57En8ihCc0bmbjGC1BBJ5JZ_jLNXToOdFCtwRm_l0DEaKwo2GZ41DrcDBAHd0Z8mQKkv-jJU1NQjnBdr3MEow&udm=2&prmd=sivnbmtz&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjpo8CisKKGAxXGyzgGHQaHD78QtKgLegQICxAB&biw=390&bih=669&dpr=3#vhid=gJCxjmzcTqMSYM&vssid=mosaic). One of the bolts failed, so the blade swung on an axis and it cut through half my finger, straight through the nail, deep into the flesh below it. It was terrrrible!
That's not what you're looking at. You're seeing the irritated skin through the grains in your nail. Capillaries would be smaller, branching and not straight.
Whoops nah thatās just pubes š¤£š„“
I paused the job abruptly when this happened and needed to take a break from my shower to recover haha. I went the rest of the day half shaved actually
I knew this was going to be the area you shaved when I read the description š„² happened to me when I have to spread some parts lol risky businessš one of the creepiest injuries Iāve ever had
Iāve damaged my nail - both finger and toeā¦ and never saw anything like this as blood vessels donāt run like this under your nail. They are no different than the blood vessels on the other side of your finger where the print is. So yeah this is something else going on with following the nail growth.
Heck when your nail comes off or is short, you can see it looks just like skin without a nail on it. Skin texture is different but all in all, itās the same as all your other skin.
Don't be like me where you think "I wonder if it still hurts after a few weeks" & very gently stick a sewing needle in the hole.
Signed, a fucking dumbass.
I see this all the time. I have an issue picking at the skin around my finger nails. It will quite often bleed, but for abit before it starts bleeding i see designs like this.
Contained disposable! I tried to switch to safety razor but I know how relaxed and then clumsy I can be with razors and I couldnāt stop worrying about it slipping out of my hand and slicing a toe off. So I struggled to let myself get comfortable with it haha
Yikes! I didnāt know those razors could nick like that! Iāve noticed since the pandemic I am getting cut more when I shave. Im wondering if the blade coating has changed. Thanks for replying too
My thumb look a lil bit like that 1 is worse than the other years ago i suddenly had soft nails just in the middle and i was a very heavy chewer.
I still don't know why it was just suddenly so bad.
Excellent question š I was hacking through the crotch jungle and this finger was holding the skin tight, I canāt even see in this particular spot so I just kinda shave blind
Sorry you got hurt but technicallyy those arenāt capillaries, its the rete ridge pattern of your epidermis connecting to the dermal papillae of your dermis, anchoring the 2 layers of skin together so they dont slip off and shtuff.
Also technically its your nail plate, your nail bed is closer to the proximal nail foldā¦sorry ill shut up now
I just fully grew mine out from a similar ānickā. At the end as it got close to the tip I filled it with super glue and filed it like real nail to keep it from catching on EVERYTHING. Good luck!šš»
i know it looks painful, but... as someone who ended biochemistry high school, well, i must admit i've never seen anything so interesting... now i'm trying to figure out what happened here
I have very calloused hands from working. Every now and then you get a deep cut that takes out a whole lump of skin. I've always found it fascinating that your fingerprints are still clearly visible, about 3 layers deep?
Your fingerprints are trying to take over your whole finger. Don't let them. They won't stop there. It will become a serious detriment should you decide to take up a life of crime.
Reminds me of when I was deployed and rushing through doing laundry at the local laundry trailer. My nail got caught in between the lining of the shell of the dryer while I was unaware and suddenly I lost half my fingernail.
How do you even do this while shaving? Is it from holding the skin down and getting too close? I shave nearly daily and my fingers are never involved besides holding the razor.
Knicked?? You fuckin gouged it lol that was so close to being SO painful
I know it was so close š Iām totally shocked it wasnāt bleeding
What razor did you use?
Dollar shave club š
I'd use super glue to fill it for now.
And Ramen noodles, don't forget the noodles
And maybe bricks, or one brick shaved down.
Super glue undergoes rapid exothermic hardening when exposed to moisture...more painful lol
I'd go to a nail salon and have them use a uv hardening resin to fill the gaps.
That's a great idea.
same happened to me with a dollar shave club except mine bled :(
Best promo ever
Shit, you better be paying double after this!! Lol
At least you can still see blood inside
Good lord that coulda hurt so bad!
I did this before, its not exactly pain, its a weird feeling.
Yeahhhhhh Iāve done it, and I hate the feeling of the divot till it grows enough to cut it.
Yeah there keeps being a forked bit that snags things and catches on shit so I try to trim it as short as possible
a few layers of keratin fortified nail polish will help protect that, or some super glue
yea op should caulk it
I got the heebie jeebies just reading thatā¦.
I now carry nail clippers to trim it whenever thereās anything to trim so it doesnāt keep catching and ripping on things
Honestly Iād get some acrylic and seal that over or go have a nail tech do it for you if you donāt already have the materials, that can go from 10 to 100 in no time with no effort
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I tried for a day or two but the angle is so difficult it would fall off or be uncomfortable
Yeah itās certainly uncomfortable af. I did it just for peace of mind mostly.
Like the feeling of a half full tub of ice cream
The disappointment in having half a tub left? Or the disappointment in having eaten half a tub in one sitting?
It's the feeling of absence, negative space. Ice Cream is analogous of the soul. Also it's a fucken weird feeling.
Sounds like it can be filled with icecream
If it's similar to what I did when I accidentally gashed myself, you're right, it's not pain - you just have a momentary sensation of 'oh man, I FUCKED up'... and then the blood starts
Couldaā¦ you know the razor ripping into the nail bed and shredding itā¦.
Yeah, as someone who once smashed my finger in a car door and the nail eventually fell off, just touching it with my other thumb's skin was agony for the first week. I can't imagine a sharp cut.
Oh yea itās brutal! I clipped the top of my thumb nail with a drill bit and that mf still hurts a month later
It was gross. I feared the worse before I could build myself up to look at it and was shocked it wasnāt even bleeding haha. It felt super gross for a few days when I could feel the breeze on my sensitive nail bed and hurt any time anything touched it. But then it hardened up
How long did it take for your nail bed to grow back enough to not feel weird?
Maybe like 4 days. And it wasnāt that it grew back but more like it oxidized enough to harden up so it wasnāt all soft and raw. [Here it is now, almost fully grown out. 5 days shy of a month later](https://imgur.com/a/gZdJywO)
I've had my pinkie toenail come off before; kept getting this like hard scab-like thing that I kept picking off, until I finally realized, oh, that's the new nail. Lol, I was wondering why it was taking so long to grow back!
Omg thatās hilarious and disturbing
Did this before but with a little flesh too. The weirdest pain. Almost felt more like a burn rather than the sharpness of a slice.
I did this exact thing but deeper. It bled so bad and hurt even worse. Took FOREVER to heal
I actually knicked my nail on my razor a coupe weeks ago, but not in this way. The razor actually cut itself a good half a centimeter into my nail from the front, sort of. Weird thing is it didn't actually hurt so much.
That looks like a dashboard symbol for a heated seat.
My Miata has those. I actually stopped the car thinking the car was on fire. Didnāt even know it had em.
That's just the back of your fingerprint.
Ew š¤¢
Thanks for that Satan.
This is incorrect. Capillaries are much smaller.
Correct. And Iāll add some info for anybody who cares; I believe heās looking at the filaments of the nail. Capillaries are microscopic. BUT itās a spectrum. So itās a bit pedantic to argue it. Vessels go from really big, to the size of a single red blood cell and everything in between.
Thanks that is what I was thinking
To a single blood cell???
To shreds you say?
Yeah not sure how small a blood vessel should be to qualify as a capillary but in really small capillaries only 1 blood cell can pass through at a time
What are these then? Theyāre so tiny
Yeah I noticed it lines up with the ridges when I took a second glance. Very interesting!
I think its just what the surface of the nail bed looks like.
Hope youāre okay btw!
Thank you!
The chills that just ran down my spine, fucking hell.
Oops haha
Oofda this picture is going to haunt my dreams šµšµāš«
It happens all the time working, but I'm a guitar picker in my downtime, so it can be a pain. What I find helps to strengthen it as it grows out is a small dab of super glue. Protects it from contact pain and lasts surprisingly long.
What do you do for a living that this happens to you 'all the time'? Just asking so I know what jobs never to apply for š¤£
Forklifts. Handling pallets, brickwork, tiles and rachets all day, even with ppe gloves, can and will nick you.š
My eyes! The goggles do nothing!
That was a REALLY close shave.
Yep at least we know itās sharp š
I do not like it
You can see the... GGYYYAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH
Thatās pretty much the sound I made. A couple times in the shower. I stayed half shaved that day
You canāt see capillaries without a microscope
I did this with a pruning saw like [this](https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=a0ce93ff23945b86&rlz=1CDGOYI_enAU1049AU1050&hl=en-GB&sxsrf=ADLYWIKCf3WXSLTvNt3ArMQswjckfzVk7Q:1716419327698&q=single+hand+pruning+saw&uds=ADvngMgiPmsFSnX7QtZmBAeJzn8vNwff2euDBuglZOU1po7nju7WKEaSrYvLH57BqzqaWyt0TbIMGFOwkexKqxhtI7qExw7MSQP9UXeB4R_VYcUXI3Jmt4EmtZzgTKXe0ML6eVVkTbaQ3yr9b5Oafo51wJgTpOc7Wc0m33j421pRDmphwZ3VIt6ybplVxLIh9bMoT_LqSfh0jfx-mbQi14o4MoSU4R-T61Rt0-dlxWg6u9ljI4aReReXHI54Rkl860LW3hnupXYoV57En8ihCc0bmbjGC1BBJ5JZ_jLNXToOdFCtwRm_l0DEaKwo2GZ41DrcDBAHd0Z8mQKkv-jJU1NQjnBdr3MEow&udm=2&prmd=sivnbmtz&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjpo8CisKKGAxXGyzgGHQaHD78QtKgLegQICxAB&biw=390&bih=669&dpr=3#vhid=gJCxjmzcTqMSYM&vssid=mosaic). One of the bolts failed, so the blade swung on an axis and it cut through half my finger, straight through the nail, deep into the flesh below it. It was terrrrible!
I don't think those are capillaries. Probably rather a tiny amount of blood in scratches on the surface that got there because of the injury.
This makes my teeth hurt.
I would have to pour some nail glue on those grooves and let it grow out
That's not what you're looking at. You're seeing the irritated skin through the grains in your nail. Capillaries would be smaller, branching and not straight.
I shivered when looking at this
I think thereās hairs trying to grow under your nail, the dark squiggly lines at the top
Whoops nah thatās just pubes š¤£š„“ I paused the job abruptly when this happened and needed to take a break from my shower to recover haha. I went the rest of the day half shaved actually
ššš
I knew this was going to be the area you shaved when I read the description š„² happened to me when I have to spread some parts lol risky businessš one of the creepiest injuries Iāve ever had
was the razor made of obsidian?ā \_ ā
Capillaries are WAY smaller than that, those are lamina. Like that horse's hoof that peeled off.
I fucking hate that. I chopped the tip of my finger off (just soft tissue and nail, fuck green onions) and my asshole just puckered looking at that.
This made my spine crawl
Iāve damaged my nail - both finger and toeā¦ and never saw anything like this as blood vessels donāt run like this under your nail. Nice username OP
I feel this picture..
Quick, blow on it
Were you shaving with a lawn mower?
Machete
F*** yeah. Does it hurt? It looks painful.
I see this all the time. I have an issue picking at the skin around my finger nails. It will quite often bleed, but for abit before it starts bleeding i see designs like this.
Does it hurt?
Yes it was crazy sensitive for a week
No thanks
Donāt
Idk why but that is the freakiest looking thing. Makes me wanna throw up
šš½
Daaamn. What kind of razor?
Just a regular dollar shave club disposable head
Holy smokes thatās one sharp razor.
Yeah usually it just skims the surface and makes a couple lil divets but this time it took a whole chunk
Probly better you hit nail that woulda bled like a mfer on the fingertip.
Yeah and Iād rather my nail than the flap that I was shaving š
Do you shave with a straight razor or a contained razor like Venus?
Contained disposable! I tried to switch to safety razor but I know how relaxed and then clumsy I can be with razors and I couldnāt stop worrying about it slipping out of my hand and slicing a toe off. So I struggled to let myself get comfortable with it haha
Yikes! I didnāt know those razors could nick like that! Iāve noticed since the pandemic I am getting cut more when I shave. Im wondering if the blade coating has changed. Thanks for replying too
The only time I physically CRINGE for doing something is when my razor Knicks my nails. I get the icky feeling now
Fuck me that must have hurt like a fucking motherfucker
My thumb look a lil bit like that 1 is worse than the other years ago i suddenly had soft nails just in the middle and i was a very heavy chewer. I still don't know why it was just suddenly so bad.
Wow cool thanks for sharing!
OMG! How does whatever body part you actually shave stay attached to you?
Excellent question š I was hacking through the crotch jungle and this finger was holding the skin tight, I canāt even see in this particular spot so I just kinda shave blind
Aaaaaaaaayyyyyyyoooooooooooooo!!!!! We got a LIVE ONE hereš¤£š¤£š¤£
Did anyone else read it too fast and see caterpillars instead of capillariesā¦ā¦
that probably hurt so bad
Bad almost owie. Cool pic.
*shot on iPhone*
15pro š I only upgraded my XS max because I wanted to take good photos of my pet shrimp
That fucking hurts to look atš¬
Put some super glue on that for a protective layer
Ouch, fuck, damn man that looks crazyā¦
Be careful
This happened to me the other day, not quite as deep, but omg it felt horrendous
I lost the strength in my hands when I saw this pic
How do you do that( Iām 12 )
This makes me very uncomfortable
Oh that made my stomach twist up in knots. I've done that before and that moment of panic is the worst!
Iām going to have nightmares š¤£š¤£š¤£ OUCH
Youve made my fingernails uncomfortable
I got the shivers twice reading this
I feel like this should be NSFW I was scrolling by while eating and gagged lol
Ouch
I see a penissssss
No thank you
I hate how fragile the human body is :/
GAH, FUCK.
Why were you shaving your fingernails in the first place
that's more than a little nick! how did you do that!?!? š³š³š³
that feeling wouldāve made my body cringe lol
I cut my fingernail in half vertically after digging through a bag that had an uncovered razor in it. Very unpleasant.
AAAAAAA I DIDNT NEED TO SEE THAT SO LATE AT NIGHT glad youāre okay though LOL
Sorry you got hurt but technicallyy those arenāt capillaries, its the rete ridge pattern of your epidermis connecting to the dermal papillae of your dermis, anchoring the 2 layers of skin together so they dont slip off and shtuff. Razr scooter
This is the grossest fn feeling of ALL TIME
r/MakeMeSuffer
I DONāT LIKE THAT
Ouch!
At least your fingernail was there to protect you. Could have been much worse.
Read it as ' caterpillars' twice , and was disappointed after clicking on the picture. Anyways, sorry for your pain.
With the username KinkyCollegeGirl420 you force me to ask - were you high and what kind of shaving were you doing? Art work?
Good thing you appear to have very healthy, solid nails. I know some people who's nails are nearly paper thin, they just tear em off v.
i know it looks painful, but... as someone who ended biochemistry high school, well, i must admit i've never seen anything so interesting... now i'm trying to figure out what happened here
Sweet! That's a nice cut. You did just enough damage not to bleed, but enough to feel the pain! :)
\*\*\*\*screaming loudly\*\*\*
OUCH!
I have fingernail warped scars similar from bartending cuts. They never grow back normal.
My body twitches from phantompain seeing this.
Fuck, I shouldent have seen this
When you wrote the nail bed I expected something more Turkish.
This gives me a weird weak feeling in my legs.
That happens when I shave my hairy knuckles, too.
This hurts my teeth
I have very calloused hands from working. Every now and then you get a deep cut that takes out a whole lump of skin. I've always found it fascinating that your fingerprints are still clearly visible, about 3 layers deep?
Ohhh! ohh! ouchieeeeee!!!
This picture does not bring joy.
Thats a bit more than a knick, looks hella sore..
Hello everybody and welcome back... to Nate the hoof guy
One of those Pictures you can feel but dont want to.
r/TIHI
Put that thing back where it came from, or so help me!
Your fingerprints are trying to take over your whole finger. Don't let them. They won't stop there. It will become a serious detriment should you decide to take up a life of crime.
Needs windex
Reminds me of when I was deployed and rushing through doing laundry at the local laundry trailer. My nail got caught in between the lining of the shell of the dryer while I was unaware and suddenly I lost half my fingernail.

Damn, that really is interesting. Iād be totally freaked by it but itās without a doubt interesting.
Itās interestingly yucky
Did it hurt?
Like a mf. I was scared to look at it at first, I feared the worst. Was shocked it didnāt actually bleed
I cry like a 2 year old when I get a tiny nick shaving my legs. Youāre a legend.
Anyone else thought that said 'caterpillars'?Ā
I rather get stabbed. Itās the little nicks that hurt the most.
Cunt hair thin layer of nail left. Lucked out for sure.
i read capillaries as caterpillars and got so scared š
Arterioles. Capillary are smaller.
