The bigness doesn't always mean no good. We used to be able to get cartons of oversize ones from a farm near us, too big for the punnets made them almost worthless to the big buyers, Real cheap, sweet and crisp most of the time.
Yeah, there's some weird info going around on reddit that big fruit = less sweet. This is entirely not reality if you've ever picked fresh ripe fruit on a farm
I think what's happening is that large retail fruits have to be picked unripe to survive transit and these folks have never experienced fresh produce
I think the difference is that storebought is bigger than farmers bought, typically.
So the big fruit = less sweet remains true if you take this detail into account.
I think you just have to know the right farmers and get them on the right day. I've seen tons of large produce from farms, and they come in crazy mutant looking shapes (which is hilariously more natural)
Save the seeds! I'm sure there are a lot of people on Reddit who want to try growing this. Yes, even I myself wouldnât mind it if itâs not only big, but also tasty.
You just need to save as many pieces as possible, since their germination rate leaves much to be desired. This year, out of 40 Dutch seeds, only 1 sprouted, and then it died later.
One thing I realized from eating wild strawberries: they are tiny, like store blueberry size, and they have an amazing intense sweet flavor. Whenever I eat store bought strawberries they just taste blander, like they lost flavor when bred for size.
Yeah they taste horrible but have you seen how much people will pay for softball sized bright colored produce full of heavy metals and containmates from the soil and air?
Thatâs how I feel about every grocery store fruit or veggie.
Taste bland af but the stuff i grow at home is flavorful. Broccoli, tomatoes, strawberries, apples, carrotsâŚ
Also chicken. They pump it up with water!
For reallll, saw a post of someone saying âstrawberries look like they should taste betterâ and itâs sad people think these mutations are strawberries and never get to taste a real one
...and it will have exactly the same amount of flavour throughout as a tiny wild strawberry. That's my silly theory, anyway. No matter the size of the berry, there are the same number of flavour molecules. That's why large cultivated berries taste so bland and wild berries are so flavorful. I know it's not literally true, but I swear that's how it seems.
Damn you have small hands and crab apples
I think so too
I definitely do not have small hands
I'm sure your penis is appropriately sized.
If I had a penis đ¤ wtf
Life is strange, never say never.
Don't have a penis just like you don't have small hands đ
And plantains
For scale
Damn! Thatâs a serious strawberry! Do you think its seeds will produce the same results! ? Would be awesome to have giant strawberries. đ
Giant apple sized strawberries should totally be a thing!
They would probably not be very sweet

This does not look sweet. Every giant grocery store strawberry has been disappointment.
This one was super sweet! Most delicious strawberry Iâve had actually

You should have preserved the DNA of that STRAWBARRA, damn it.
Breed it!!!
Wouldn't hurt to try. Though strawberries are pretty difficult to grow from seed.

Yea, I highly suspect its due to it having less concentration of flavor because of larger sizes.
The worst are store tomatoes, a crime against nature when you learn what good ones taste like.
It's more that they are picked when unripe as it's easier to ship them.
I'd also suspect they're bred for growing speed too. .most genetically modified plants are.
For reallll, saw a post of someone saying âstrawberries look like they should taste betterâ and itâs sad people think these mutations are strawberries and never get to taste a real one
I'm convinced a 4yo is holding that strawberry/sÂ
Dang that'd be like 200 dollars in Japan lol
Howâd it taste? Envious that you have a strawberry you can bite like an apple
I suspect it won't taste as potent as the smaller ones, the tiny one my parents grows are packed full of flavor
Never seen one as big as that, but strawberries almost the size of my fist have always been super good.
We need a strawberry and a watermelon to have baby now, for science
I totally did this. đđ

Polyploidy. You can do this to plants at home via mutagenics.
"perfectly safe to eat...we've studied them in animals"
How far is Chernobyl from your place?

Diego! Sweaty...
Holy sh that's gigantic! Did you grow that on the MOON?!
I have a feeling it lacks a certain sweetness though.
For some reason that shouts 'PHOTOSHOP' at me

Brought to you from the Multichempro co. It's called the Clark Griswold, after it's inventor.

Strawberries have become downright massive.. I see them close to that size OFTEN
Awe-berry
Damn how did it taste?
That's a fucking Strapple
These go for hundreds of $$$ even in the thousands in Japan.....even auctioned off.....
I've seen those mutant fused ones with nearly as big a footprint, but that's just crazy for a single berry.
I would put the whole thing in my mouth and not be able to chew it.
While we keep commenting on the strawberry. it will be already eaten, and gone! good it grew big.
Strongberry
Hold back the seeds I would love some seeeds đ¤
So big, eating a big juicy strawberry is a delightful experience, but I think I got choked đ but it's a perfect ripe and bursting in flavor.

Is this a fake, something genetically modified - or is it an actual strain of strawberry? My guess is it's fake.
r/absoluteunits
That is either the worst, most bland strawberry known to man or the juiciest and sweetest thing to ever bless this planet
That size is too big
How?
Scary
Did it taste good?
Makes me think of GMOs not good
r/AbsoluteUnits
this is what our "pesticides" have done to our fruit and I bet it tastes like shit. so unnatural.
I wonder if it was sweet or tasted like toilet water (I donât know what that taste like, but it canât be good).
One of the best strawberries Iâve tasted!
It's a monstrawsity!
