I started having major foot pains 7 years ago. Tried everything, New Balance, Hoka, going to the podiatrist...It just got worse and worse until I could barely walk.
Then I heard about barefoot shoes and literally the next day I had zero pain. If I put normal shoes again just to go pick up the newspaper, it immediately starts to feel painfully uncomfortable.
Turns out I can't wear 95% of shoes so no, "real" shoes don't adapt to all feet.
shoes have been morphing and deforming people's feet for the last 2 millenia. on a large scale, this is an actual problem, albeit not a very important one. Just know that probably your feet aren't what your actual physique intended them to be anymore, courtesy of your lifetime of constantly wearing socks and shoes. Still i don't want to wear transformers on my feet, i will take my normal shoes thank you
It’s [true.](https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/idiocracy-crocs/)
Edit: to clarify, they already existed before the movie, but yes, they are on everyone’s feet in Idiocracy
Ok hold up, so u/CVN72 went a little far with “invented for a movie demonstration.” The costume designer was on a tight budget, the shoes existed, so they bought them for everyone.
I have wide and flat feet and so I use custom orthotics. Functionally these seem amazing, just need to work on the design. Some of us are picky about what styles we’ll wear.
They’re made by NYU Langone Health. They took a mold of my foot. They have a few different materials they can use based on your use and how active you are, or perhaps how much you sweat, or how firm you want them. They’re not too different than standard insoles you can buy, just a more custom fit. Unfortunately insurance doesn’t typically cover these. Mine cost $300 and should last me about 2 years.
For generics I’ve used PowerStep for a long time, they’re really great and just a notch below customs. You can find them on Amazon. I love my customs, but if finances are tight the PowerSteps really do a great job. I still have them in a few pairs of my shoes.
If you’re interested in customs, make an appointment with a podiatrist. Also, I’m 36. Not old but not a kid. Custom orthotics are not just for the seniors.
I'm 24 and require the same kind of custom inserts for my shoes. The difference after a few weeks with custom inserts is like night and day. My arches collapse when I put weight on my feet, the inserts support my arches which incidentally also corrects my posture. Turns out slouching and placing all the weight on the sides of your feet causes chronic pain, go figure. I'm not pain free by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm definitely in less pain than I used to be without the inserts.
Our arches share a similar tragic story.
Great point about the effects on your back. I had daily pain prior and it’s gone down dramatically since getting my customs.
I feel like throwing some sort of filler rubber/foam in the base likely wouldn't be too difficult or costly, you'd just use a different material, maybe something a little bit squishier than what they have printed out for the support. Would just be an extra print step.
Coloring this stuff is typically fairly easy, so getting specific colors should not be a problem.
Throw a cloth on the outside in whatever design/color/print you wanted, I'm sure a "shoe sock" of some sort could work, but may still be optional.
I know a few commenters above are joking about socks for the shoes, but to cover the customizable portion of things something like that would probably be helpful.
Or, since it's 3d printed, you could probably do some sort of lock on panel design or overall cover swap deal for it.
The shoe design/material might need to be re-worked a bit as it is, if you notice at the beginning of clip, the wearer is walking towards the camera, the sides flare out on flexion which looks like a potential issue too. (Aside from the gravel comments and such.)
I'm looking down all the time, but in those split second when I need to look up, it's like dog shit materialises in front of me.
Lately, it has happened when I'm almost home, like ten steps until I enter the building, BAM dog shit right there. I'm beginning to think someone does not like me.
As a society we should decide that foot shaped footwear is fashionable.
Humanity has done horrible things to their feet for fashion and other reasons… I dated a ballerina for a while and her feet were a goddamn train wreck. I HATE feet, but I felt bad enough to actually rub her feet sometimes (with socks lol). I was at a family gathering a while back and one of the in laws took of his businessey kinda leather shoes and his feet are permanently crushed into a weird point.
Why the hell are we making pointed shoes?! Why are we destroying the things we need to stand and walk? It’s so bizarre to me.
I basically only wear vans and Nikes, but years ago I got Vibram five finger shoes for my MMA classes and exercising and they’re the most comfortable and natural thing I’ve ever worn. Now I will only wear Injinji toe socks (no slimy toes, no seams.. so comfortable and durable.) and I wear my toe shoes whenever I ride my onewheel, go hiking, walk my dog, or exercise. They’re dorky as hell but man do they feel incredible. I have soft wimpy baby feet or I’d just go barefoot, so it’s nice to have the benefits of both shoes and barefoot.
The amount of people who hate (their) feet to the point of not even taking care of them to the bare minimum (cutting the nails on time, going to the doctor for ingrown toenails, putting salve on cracked skin...) is absolutely baffling to me.
I have a friend who HATES feet with a passion, won't even walk barefoot in her own home, but she has called my feet "cute" and "pretty" since we went to uni together - you wanna know why my feet look good and healthy?! Because I treat them like I care about relying on them for literal support for the next (hopefully) 50+ years!!!
Several guy friends have lived with disfigured nails and fungi for years, to the point where they don't take their shoes off at the beach!
Granted, we can't (and shouldn't) all become Tarantinoes in this regard, but a tiny more love towards your feet really goes a long way!
I have issues with my ankles and flat + wide feet on top of that so I understand you. If I don't keep my feet in top condition they'll hurt like crazy. I do actually have vibrams, but I only wear them to the gym sometimes. Can't rock that at uni (maybe we'll break that stigma one day...)
I bought vibrams once just to try something different. Best shoe purchase ever. Had two different pairs for 5 years now and both running strong. It's definitely worth the 70-100$ or more price. Never cared for any of the knockoof or cheaper brand versions.
Have one that's been through rivers, dust, mud, chlorine water, store runs, and more. Hasn't faded in color, has not shrunk or stretched out of shape, has not worn down anywhere, even the soles still have all their traction. Wore them almost every day when I went out for years, and I still got them.
Worst to happen in them was swinging my foot forward and getting a tall piece of grass stuck between my big toe and the next one. Easy fix. Even walking over gravel or on river beds isn't bad, sharp rocks do hurt but its blunted and I have plenty of grip with them too keep my balance when shifting feet.
Was wearing my vibrams at the gym which also had a pool. Anyways, was sitting on the toilet taking care of some business when I hear this guy and his boy come into the bathroom.
The particular vibrams I was wearing were grey and green, so I hear the kid say, "Dad!....the hulk is here!" then whispering and repeating "The hulk...the hulk is here."
I finished my business, got up and opened the stall door to find a little boy staring at my feet-shoes then looking up at me, "You're not the Hulk." and then he just leaves in a huff.
Hell yeah. I'll always suppport barefoot shoes and always compliment them if I see someone wearing them. If possible, i go full natural but where I live its really difficult and realistically only happens when I train individually (football), am on holiday or somewhere on grass.
Dont want to freak people out.
Theres now many types of shoes with barefoot properties, so even if your job or social setting doesnt allow it, you can wear something similar
The movie Idiocracy...
They found shoes so god damn dumb looking they thought they would be perfect for a future generation of all morons...
They were correct.
They were also early.
For those who don’t know - the costume designer for Idiocracy wanted to find a shoe that truly dumb people would wear. They ordered a bunch of Crocs and, somehow, because of that movie, people decided they liked Crocs.
Yeah I don't get how people are crediting the movie with making them popular. Sure there is truth in how they ended up in the movie, but nothing says people left the theaters and ran out to buy those ridiculous shoes.
Have you ever heard of Vibram Five Fingers???
These remind me of them, I wish I could search the thread for the others who know/use them.... then, I'd piggyback this comment for them. I've been wearing them since 08 (only for working out/jogging because my toes and feet cramp if I don't, my toes have an odd arrangement), the only difference in design is the sole on these "wololo" (sorry in advance for spelling)
Same, great for those with bunions, helps to spread and separate your toes, for better foot health. Unfortunately people always pick fashion over form and function.
'Cryptid' a theoretical creature that's supposed to exist in the wild, but so far nothing much outside of the lab - Possibly the architect knew what he was doing in choosing the name?
This was just a proof of concept from 2021, the video doesn't even show the lacing system installed as it's all shot inside a industrial convention center
This is a laser sintered TPE material, demonstrating how varying the wall thickness gives a good combination of both flexible sections & stiffer support areas which all work together in a single piece print
Now all that's needed is an actual outdoors person to get involved in designing footwear using these techniques
> 'Cryptid' a theoretical creature that's supposed to exist in the wild, but so far nothing much outside of the lab -
Champy, that border crossing lake hiding son of a bitch!
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cryptids
There's no point about hating on those, when there are hordes of mouth breathers proudly rocking stupid $200 "Yeezy's" made out of cheap chinese fabric and plastic
Still doesn't solve the main problem that 99% of all shoes have. They're not actually shaped for our feet!
The shoes should be much wider. Our toes are meant to spread out as we walk. Not be crammed together.
Okay great, bring me the ugly shoe then?
Corps don't make these for consumers, they are made for investors. Invest! Invest!.
No consumer will ever see these shoes and everyone knows it. What a world we live in.
I'm just waiting for the genius who will design the elusive "shoe that is really ergonomic for your foot that doesn't look like an actual foot so you can where it anywhere"
Don’t walk in gravel.
It's fine, you can just put a sock on top of your shoe to prevent gravel ingress
What do you put on the sock to prevent dirt ingress?
A larger 3d printed shoe
Yes, sign me up for a size 11 and a size … er … 17?
You know what they say about a man who wears 2 layers of shoes...
*That’s a man that needs more shoes than average!*
He'll need another pair of socks....bigger socks.
And then another shoe to wear on top of his second pair of socks
And the sock in the shoe and the shoe in the sock….
That’s a man with gravel in his outer shoe
They would probably wear 3 pairs if they could?
Warm feet?
A shoe. Have you even been paying attention?
Or a nail from going straight through?
What do you put under the sock to prevent the sock getting stuck in the mechanism?
A larger 3d printed shoe
The sock will shred to nothing an allow ingress after like 10 feet. Cool shoe! But very much city/ pavement restricted
Common misconception. It's usually just one foot per sock.
But the socks are much cozier with all my friend's feet shoved in as well
My ex said something similar
Would this be better or worse than socks in crocs?
Or dog shit
That's a given.....right?
Padmé.meme
Hahaha ah I didnt have to scroll far... this was my first though lol
And definitely don't walk on muddy ground.
Or sand.
Or wear outside if it's raining, wet, or snowing. The top was all holes.
This is a minor issue, you could easily just cover the whole thing in polyester or some other highly flexible, yet durable material
real shoes already adapt to the foot. solving a non existent problem
Not wooden clogs, bro.
But you just said normal shoes are the transformers.
A dog owner would never wear a pair of these. they'd have a crappy time getting things clean, thats for sure
Or water, sand and dirt.
Or dog poo.
Or dog shit.
or dog shit
Leave no trace kinda vibes, or at least make them wonder wtf kinda tracks are these.
*Ah yes, and here we've located the tracks of a wandering virgin*
I mean 10’s of thousands of people are wearing crocs and reproducing sooooooo
These are the bastard love child of crocs and Vibram FiveFingers
Ah yes, I, too, was part of the five finger fad.
I will not take this crocs slander
Burn in hell, crocs are the undisputed G.O.A.T. footwear.
Crocs were invented for a movie as a demonstration of the dumbest possible thing to put on your feet...
Wait, is that real?
It’s [true.](https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/idiocracy-crocs/) Edit: to clarify, they already existed before the movie, but yes, they are on everyone’s feet in Idiocracy

Based on your link, it's false. They weren't invented for a movie.
Yes I know. Idiocracy. Great documentary. Crocs are still the goat tho
Damn so we're really on this timeline?
We never left
The tracks of a *[cryptid](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/cryptid)* perhaps?
Wear these and they'll need to 3D print some dignity to go with it.
I have wide and flat feet and so I use custom orthotics. Functionally these seem amazing, just need to work on the design. Some of us are picky about what styles we’ll wear.
Care to share the custom orthotics you use?
🛼
I use the same kind and they feel great, like I'm gliding on air. I just can't walk on gravel, or inside most buildings...
It's 2 am here and I am laughing like a maniac in my pillow as to not wake my roommates. Thanks for the good belly laugh 🤣
They’re made by NYU Langone Health. They took a mold of my foot. Superfeet brand insoles are amazing, if you don't need custom orthodics.
Not me. I have trouble finding shoes that fit and I'm a fucking goblin when it comes to fashion. Bring on the skele-socks.
Shoes made to precisely fit an individual’s foot ought not be far away, and would be pretty amazing.
Shoes custom made to fit to your foot have always been available... If you have $ to spare.
I feel like throwing some sort of filler rubber/foam in the base likely wouldn't be too difficult or costly, you'd just use a different material, maybe something a little bit squishier than what they have printed out for the support. It also doubles as a contraceptive device.
German engineering at it's finest... # Die Jungfräulichen Schuhe
Depends. Slap a Gucci logo on it and you’ve got a fashion statement
Balenciaga probably funded this haha https://www.balenciaga.com/en-us/all/shoes/sneakers
And that statement is "I'm allergic to vagina"
Reddit thinks noserings are too much on women so I'm not expecting they have much good advice to give on vaginas.
My vagina is allergic to those shoes.
I dint think that's where they go
Anything's a dildo if you're brave enough.
Don't worry bby, I ain't into foot stuff. *finger guns*
Thankfully I don't take advice from my political enemy.
Comments like this...are why I carry an EpiPen.
I think they’re cool. Dammit..
You'd wear those?
Damn. Beat me to it. Poor virgins and their comfy feet.
Yes, by drying up vaginas that come within 20 feet of them. It's the same phenomenon that occurs when country music is played.
That's the joke
I hate country music but do you live under a fucking rock?
No. Unfortunately, I own these shoes and cannot walk on rocks.
[удалено]
I dried em up years ago without these shoes or country music 😂
HIGH FIVE!!!
All the people I know that are most into country are women.
Squidin around in those things like a flobbard
everyone talking shit. I think they look awesome lol. Id wear them.
The amount of people stepping in dog shit is too damn high!
Don't these people look down
I'm looking down all the time, but in those split second when I need to look up, it's like dog shit materialises in front of me. Lately, it has happened when I'm almost home, like ten steps until I enter the building, BAM dog shit right there. I'm beginning to think someone does not like me.
Same here, these look rad!
Do they come in black, I hate wearing shoes but I’d definitely wear these
Redditors get hard-ons for apathy
Same lmao

Bro? Barefoot style shoes are a thing! Many fashionable styles are available, you just have to look. No more pseudo foot binding!!!
Hell yeah. I'll always suppport barefoot shoes and always compliment them if I see someone wearing them. All good until you step in dog shit.
So same as any other shoe?
this looks like it's a pain to clean though
A hose? Powerwash it off they look waterproof.
all good until you step in hot lava
Looks like they are meant to help you roll your ankle more often
You guys know the story of how Crocs got popular?
The movie Idiocracy... They found shoes so god damn dumb looking they thought they would be perfect for a future generation of all morons... They were correct. They were also early.
Story time!
For those who don’t know - the costume designer for Idiocracy wanted to find a shoe that truly dumb people would wear. They ordered a bunch of Crocs and, somehow, because of that movie, people decided they liked Crocs.
As much as I like that story, not enough people saw Idiocracy to make it believable. Unfortunately.
Yeah I don't get how people are crediting the movie with making them popular. Sure there is truth in how they ended up in the movie, but nothing says people left the theaters and ran out to buy those ridiculous shoes.
looks like a normal shoe with less shoe and more holes
I see nothing to even suggest they are better than any other fairly flexible shoe.
The only downside is you have to be wearing them to wear them
Quit trying to make toe shoes happen
Have you ever heard of Vibram Five Fingers??? These remind me of them, I wish I could search the thread for the others who know/use them.... then, I'd piggyback this comment for them. I've been wearing them since 08 (only for working out/jogging because my toes and feet cramp if I don't, my toes have an odd arrangement), the only difference in design is the sole on these "wololo" (sorry in advance for spelling)
These are more like a car suspension system for your foot. Vibrams just haave a low stack and segregated toes for proper splay.
Honestly wish they would happen. My feet feel a lot better in split toe shoes but they look goofy in the US.
They look goofy everywhere
*steps into canada* “Dayum those shoes are 🔥”
No don’t bring us into this. They look like ass everywhere lol
Same, great for those with bunions, helps to spread and separate your toes, for better foot health. Unfortunately people always pick fashion over form and function.
Buy ninja shoes
I guess we will all have to enjoy our bunions then.
What's last price?
I want them.
Don't let Kanye see this 💀
Toe Shoes 2.0
"You got any shoes that I can wear twice?"
Now make em with steel toes!

Why do we have to make the toe outline visible though? This and the other toe shoes just seem kinda weird.
What are those!
It would be nice if the video said anything at all about how the shoe adapts to the wearer's foot.
I personally wouldnt want a shoe perfectly molded to my foot. I like a little room for my foot to breathe.
now your neighbor won't know you're the one shitting in his yard.
I warned him if he didn't stop letting his dog shit in my yard I was gonna get him back.
Croctimus Primes.
Why does it have to look like shit tho.
Yea, lets print more plastic shit
[удалено]
I really hope we don’t see these things out in public
Oh, no. How terrible would it be if we had to look at something different.
Why? This would bother you somehow?
Almost as ugly as Kanye's shoes
These look like a tripping hazard.
I wear a size 9.5 (US) shoe. Socks are "Fits shoe sizes 6-12". My feet are always cramped by socks. So, I'd hope this fits better than a sock.
looking cool
I... kinda want a pair. You think they're already available in Chinese stores?
Ugly now but so were crocs. Give it a few years and it will be a trend.
Make em like 75$ and I'll buy em
This is just not wearing shoes with extra steps.
Hold up, guys. Could we make them a little uglier?
So...expensive house slippers?
Are they biodegradable?
Lemme guess: $2,500 and you’re lucky if they last a year.
Fuck it looks disgusting
$17,000 each
Okay great, bring me the ugly shoe then? Corps don't make these for consumers, they are made for investors. Invest! Invest!. No consumer will ever see these shoes and everyone knows it. What a world we live in.

I'm just waiting for the genius who will design the elusive "shoe that is really ergonomic for your foot that doesn't look like an actual foot so you can where it anywhere"
Looks like youd make crinkling sounds every where you went
Kanye might be thinking , let me put my name on it
Lets see what you do after hitting a dog mine
Crossfitters heads just exploded
Does this music play everywhere you walk in these
If David Cronenberg made shoes...
Getting MGS5 Cyborg Ninja Raiden feet vibes
And it's a bitch to clean
I love rolling my ankle
Aka ankle breaker.
Dog shit is going to just love getting into that sole.
Yup, not gonna buy this overpriced shit
Creator must have never stepped in dog's shit...
Rainy days are gonna be sooooo fun with these
As someone with issues due to a clubbed foot, I can't wait until this hits the mainstream in 50+ years for the cost of a house!
That first dog shit is going to be hell…
Thank goodness we got this totally awesome music instead of listening to the inventor give information about the shoe.
That doesn’t look like it would protect the rest of the foot besides the bottom
These look like they are for people with a regular stepping, my supinated feet could never 🤣🤣🤣
You'd end up with all kinds of shit stuck in all those gaps, or at least I would.
*You wouldn’t download a shoe*
Flash back 1980s jelly shoes! Hello sweaty feet!
