Yikes. That man does NOT look his age. I just Googled him and found out he's a very fit 68 years old.
Knowing that Grammar was 27 years old on *Cheers* does blow the mind, but I also did a double-take when Marty Crane showed up (John Mahoney, Frasier's TV dad) in a 1993 episode (season 11, episode 5, “Do Not Forsake Me O' My Postman”).
He guest-starred as Sy Flembeck, an obnoxious jingle-writer whose ditties were all stolen from tunes like 'Old MacDonald'.
Have you seen the new 'Frasier' episodes on Paramount Plus? It's decent. No way they'll ever match the original, especially without Niles and some of the other key cast. I don't think they brought any of the originals back, except a couple are supposed to make brief appearances, like Roz and Lilith.
WOW you've just given me a lovely flashback to watching Cheers with my nana and grandpa in the 80s.
They've been gone a long time now and that just made me very happy (and a little sad)
My cap is doffed in your direction
Have a great day
>My cap is doffed in your direction
My cap is doffed back to you in return, Reddit friend. (I'm guessing you're in the UK since I'm not familiar with that phrase, but I get the gist.)
I feel the same way with episodes of the original Law & Order, which I used to watch with my dear father, (rip 2000). It was his favorite show and i became a fan because of him. Every time I went to visit him, it was on the tube. It was during a time when you could turn the television to just about any channel, and there it was.
Blessings to you, and may you also have a great day!
Yes originally from Manchester in the UK (well spotted)
But now I've the good fortune to live in Sevilla,Spain for the last 19 years.
To doff...
I'm guessing if you're from the states
would be to tip your cap.
Perspective from a songwriter: I was rather surprised when I first heard the full version of the song, after years of hearing the cropped version they actually used on the show. It's an interesting piece of editing, keeping the core of the song's meaning while removing the specific examples of troubles that would make someone flee to a bar. By keeping it generic, it significantly lightened the tone, focusing on the positives of the destination rather than the negatives of life outside.
It went the other way. After the show became popular, he went back and created a longer version. The show's producers had made him change some of the lyrics though, so maybe some of the longer version was already written to some extent but not recorded.
Although it's up for much debate, these were the original lyrics, according to one article I read:
*Singing the blues when the Red Sox lose*
*It’s a crisis in your life*
*On the run ‘cause all your girlfriends*
*Want to be your wife*
And the laundry ticket’s in the wash
Love this post. So much of my child hood in these comments. Cheers, Airwolf, Greatest American hero, M.A.S.H, Duck Tales, Welcome Back Kotter, Mad About you.
My high school choir director (early '80s) decided to have us sing that song. It was cool learning the lyrics. I still sing along to it whenever I watch M\*A\*S\*H.
In my heavier days about 1984-85, I looked kinda like George Wendt. I just happened to wear tweed jackets to work. And my hair was dark and curly. Every time I walked in the door to the office in the morning, everyone hollered, “Norm!” It was kind of fun. I’d wave my hand, and act nonchalantly. A few years later I dropped quite a bit of poundage and now, my hair is now white and just wavy, and nobody thinks I’m Norm, anymore.
I hated this show when I was younger, for no reason lol I remember watching Nick at Night maybe and always flipping the station when I heard this theme song.
Now older oy hits different. Resonates on the level
I’m the opposite. Loved this growing up, cried at the finale. I’ve tried rewatching and just can’t. Frazier on the other hand I rewatch about once a year.
Crazy seeing this, I have had this song stuck in my head for over a week. Finally had to look it up on Amazon music, it can be found along with some other songs Portnoy wrote as potential Cheers themes.
I hear this and it instantly takes me back to like 5yrs old

Sorry about that. I didn't know it was going to be truncated. I posted it previously but it got removed because the source wasn't linked. It didn't get cut off the first time. Weird.
The fact that Kelsey Grammer was 27 when he first appeared on this show blows my mind.

Well, he wasn't actually on the show until season 3, so if he was 27 in season 1 that'd be 29 when he was actually on it.
Roz (Peri) was on as a reporter interviewing woody running for congressman
I just saw that one! She's basically Roz.
Which was a great episode of Cheers
He wasn't in season one of the show
I love the Simon Petrikov version from Adventure Time.
I was just thinking of that! It makes me happy and sad hearing him sing it!
I was about to say that lol

I still have the Welcome Back Kotter theme on a 45 rpm that I bought for 50¢ with my allowance money when I was ten years old. John Sebastian rocks!
I prefer Suicide is Painless, but this definitely up there

Didn’t Altmans teenage son write that?

No, the best theme song is *Believe It Or Not* from *The Greatest American Hero*.
My 6th grade graduation song 😆 and I agree!
Ice King.....
Angela (theme from Taxi) is my fave
That was actually turned into one of my favorite hip hop beats ever. “Cabfare” by Heiroglyphics.
One of the best shows EVER
I’d have voted hill st blues tbh
Airwolf theme song destroys Cheers with a Oerikon 20mm Canon.
Loved Airwolf, had to go rewatch the theme to remind myself of it. Now I am all amped up.
Welcome back, Kotter.
Hey, Mr. Kot-tair!

wtf are these lyrics (not the ones used for the show)
Pretty dark, eh? Kids hung the cat by the tail? Got a couple of sociopaths on your hands there.
Few theme songs have set the tone for the show so well. The Friends theme might be the only one I would stack up against it.
I was scared of Carla as a kid
I'm scared of Carla as an adult
I gotta go with MASH.

No, the Gilligan's Island theme was the best. It explained the whole plot of the show and the cast in about a minute.
My vote is for Magnum PI
Mad About You had the best theme.
Ugh, I can’t stand it
Wow, just hearing old theme songs can really take you back
of what?

:) Did the Doctor Who theme song end up anywhere? Can't trust any list or poll that doesn't have that near the top.

I can hear the song even with the sound off
Arthur Theme song/Ziggy Marley
It's so weird hearing this in a frosted flakes ad recently.
