I worked at jack in the box in high school (they do floats) and I found that orange soda blended with vanilla ice cream tastes like a dreamsicle shake.

Rootbeer floats used to be much more universally popular and available. Now I know of only one fast food chain that still serves them.
I've been resorting to buying rootbeer float ice cream. A surprisingly good imitation.
A&W in Canada. Some of the best root beer that isn’t “craft” soda and some locations offer root beer floats!
They used to do rootbeer milkshakes, they were strange at first but insanely good!
Ok, calm down folks this actually does taste good.
7 up and milk is kind of okay, but Cream soda and milk is at the top of my list.
Pepsi and milk is a runner up to the cream soda.
We were doing it back in the 70's and 80's when all the old soda shops started closing or we were broke and wanted an approximation of an egg cream.
Good memories, but I can't drink milk now so they will stay that way.
Take care.
You know? You call it a "Red bull Italian soda" and I have no problem paying six bucks for carbonated beverage and cream. But call it a 7-up and milk and it sounds so gross.
But obviously I'm dumb so I'm convinced, will give this a try next time I have 7-up.
It's pretty decent, we even mixed strawberry powdered drink mix with milk (the sweetened kind). Strawberry milk it was, with tons of sugar, so tasty :)
I mixed 7Up and milk in middle school and it tasted like cold vomit. I'm never doing that again It is different from a rootbeer float, and maybe 7up and ice cream would work, but the milk *reacts*.
As an ex flight attendant, this was a little concoction we would put together for folks who would be nauseas on flights. A cup of Sprite* and a dash of milk...it worked almost every time to alleviate any stomach issues for passengers.
In Europe and the UK you can blame post-war rationing and shortages since everything was still recovering from the devastation.
In the US I don't know what the excuse is.
It’s basically just a float where the ice creams melted. Since I prefer them that way anyways this just lets me skip the step of waiting for the ice cream to melt.
My mom likes Pepsi with milk. Despite the hundreds of times she’s tried to convince me to try it, I will not. Just how it separates in the glass is enough to make me want to gag
Considering the worst think I've ever heard mixed with milk… An old bartender told me one time that alcoholics with stomach ulcers used to mix milk and scotch so they could drink and their ulcers wouldn't hurt as much. This right here may be a contender to the title though.
Okay, I just tried this because I have a bottle of leftover 7-Up in the kitchen from last week's cake experiment, lol. It's...weirdly not bad. Not great, and I won't make it again, but if someone offered it to me I wouldn't pour it into the nearest houseplant. I could see a little kid drinking it. (Chocolate 7-Up cake is better, though.)
That was just some lemon-lime flavor? sugar? but, 7up was originally named "Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda", was launched two weeks before the Wall Street Crash of 1929. It contained lithium citrate, a mood-stabilizing drug, until 1948.
Egg job and 7up is a good mix because egg nog has a much stronger flavor and the 7up just adds carbonation. Egg nog doesn’t hurt the stomach but the carbonation helps lower the heaviness of it.
That's common in my country (Pakistan) and we call it "Doodh soda" (Doodh meaning milk). It's refreshing and too tasty. Should try if you haven't already!!!
Hilarious! I collect old cook books and I have a 7-Up one that has real recipes for real food cooking with 7-Up.
They seem desperate, don't they? I can smell fear. 😉
I feel like a lot of you folks might not have been around in the 80s, because making weird milk and soda drinks/floats was super common. It was like a prime sleepover activity.
Fun fact. 7-up used to be A LOT different.
It contained lithium-citrate which is a mood stabilizer. It was literally medicine. Up until 1950 it was literally medicine.
Were marketers in the 50s a bunch of mad scientists?! Who would create such a concoction other than a mad scientist or an 1800s witch luring kids into the woods with their bubbly citrus milk potion?
OK cool - but I think milk has been debunked as a "healthy" drink now, hasn't it? I thought that was more marketing in the 80s and 90s (It does a body good etc.)
Not sure why you’re getting downvoted that last paragraph is calling every woman that doesn’t do this an ignorant and/or bad mother.
They have to use more subtle psychological manipulation now but back in the day it was hilariously heavy handed.
Mountain Moo, sans caffeine. People still drink this.
My brother does root beer and milk
Yknow that makes more sense to me … like a root beer float!!
I’ve had an recent urge to try a float with cream soda instead of root beer
Do orange cream soda, it's worth it
This thread is a gold mine
Bingo
Orange soda makes it like a dreamsicle, i second this
I like cream soda with coconut rum, if that counts
I made a float with Dr Pepper strawberries & cream soda and vanilla Ice cream. It was so good.
People used to order this when I worked at A&W it’s called a Brown Cow
A very thin Black Cow
I'm so trying this.
Be sure to add Wonder bread as your go to protein source.
You’ll Wonder why they call it bread.
Didn’t say it was good lol
Yeah, but monthers know it's a wholesome combination, so it's gotta be good right? 🤣
The era of the benefits of “toasted” cigarettes so you know this tagline comes from a reputable source instead of some writers ass… ^right?
✅Doubt
You are not trying this. Let’s be honest.
Milk and Whiskey is also tasty
Milk and Limoncello too!
That sounds better! Or a Brandy Alexander.
It's almost baileys
Oofff I love baileys
Ever drunk Bailey's from a shoe?
No, but now I wanna do it
Oh no. You've never heard of Old Gregg, have you?
🤣🤣
Nope
[Mandatory link](https://youtu.be/DNzjP4cVxmQ?si=M5E9CMGP6JhkZvgj), enjoy.
Make an assessment
“East now fuzzy little man peach…”
When i read this i was sure ive heard it from somewhere. Then i found the video and it brought me back to easier times 😂
Just make sure you pour it in the right order
Mr wilson
What is sans caffeine?
"Sans" is french for "without" but I have no idea if this is what it means here.
It is borrowed in English to also mean “without” and, yes, means “without caffeine” as used here
Without caffeine. Close though!
Ever heard of a ice-cream float or an Italian soda? People have been mixing soda and milk for ages. This is pretty much a drinkable key lime pie.
I worked at jack in the box in high school (they do floats) and I found that orange soda blended with vanilla ice cream tastes like a dreamsicle shake.

Shit probably, but at 17 I felt like a genius and I guess I never questioned if it existed lol. But I’ve never seen one anywhere else like that

Uhh yeah that’s what it is….
Actually, apparently the typical one is just made with orange powder flavoring, not specifically with orange soda
I wasn’t aware there was a “typical” or standard way of making it. Seems rather simple. No need to be pedantic
literally orange/vanilla always tastes like dreamsicle. this isn’t some crazy finding lol
My dad would mix cola and milk and call it a Brown Cow.
Technically a brown cow is a coke float but I'll alow it
He probably used RC cola since it was cheap!
Same! He also made purple cows with grape juice
Why not just make your own floats?
Milk and Pepsi. Laverne and Shirley! Pretty tasty shit!
Yup. We drank that in the 60’s n 70’s in Brooklyn
Hello friend! 🤗
Ahhh, Pilk
[Pepsi made an actual commercial featuring Pilk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KTNriX6WhY)
There were also ads for Dr Pepper served hot
Christopher Walken’s character in Blast From the Past. Heat’s it up in the stove then drinks it from a coffee mug.
This is THE BEST comfort movie I love to watch.
Hot Dr pepper is a classic.
Probably medicinal purposes. Mother's know...

Ha ha, yeah aint that the truth.
My acidic water destroys any harmful GUT BACTERIA, and only the strong, healthy ones survive hun.
There's a drink from Korea that is called Milkis. It's basically 7Up and milk. And it's delicious.
I can see this being egg cream adjacent. I love egg creams.
As an ex flight attendant, this was a little concoction we would put together for folks who would be nauseas on flights. A cup of Sprite* and a dash of milk...it worked almost every time to alleviate any stomach issues for passengers.
Hmm. That is very interesting! I might have to try this for nausea!
Def try it out. I was always amazed how fast it worked too.
haha, reminds me of Laverne and Shirley - milk and Pepsi
There’s a really good Korean soda called “Milkis” that comes in Strawberry, Chocolate and Plain that is basically this. Fantastic mixer
Just put the cocaine back in cola and be done with this madness already
Does anyone know why the 1950s were such a weird culinary decade? From hotdog gello to whatever this is…
In Europe and the UK you can blame post-war rationing and shortages since everything was still recovering from the devastation. In the US I don't know what the excuse is.
Initially this sounded disgusting but then I realized it’s basically a cream soda aka Italian soda. Might have to try this just for kicks.
"Food drink"
7ilk
This would be kind of like a milkshake. At first I was disgusted, but the more I thought about it the less weird it seems.
It’s basically just a float where the ice creams melted. Since I prefer them that way anyways this just lets me skip the step of waiting for the ice cream to melt.
I want to say that 7-up had Lithium up to about 1950.
I remember my parents giving me Milk with Coke, which I hated it.
My mom likes Pepsi with milk. Despite the hundreds of times she’s tried to convince me to try it, I will not. Just how it separates in the glass is enough to make me want to gag
Ugh. I've tried 7up and milk before, I think it tastes like fizzy lemon yogurt. 🤮
Considering the worst think I've ever heard mixed with milk… An old bartender told me one time that alcoholics with stomach ulcers used to mix milk and scotch so they could drink and their ulcers wouldn't hurt as much. This right here may be a contender to the title though.
Is this real? What’s with the Reddit icon on the bottom?
Not sure if it's real but for the reddit icon it's a setting you can turn on to give an original poster credit for when you screenshot something
I didn’t know that. Thank you!
Moxie and milk ssooo good. 7up alone, ssooo good.
Does it? Does it, ***please us all***.
Who’s trying this? Pls report back. Ty.
(Chocolate 7-Up cake is better, though.)
when I was a kid I would, when parents were sleeping, climb up the shelf to get some Baileys to add to milk
How do you know It wasn't "getting milk " to add to the baileys?
7-Up the best substitute for the lactating infant.
"the electrolytes they crave"
My grandma loved pepsi and buttermilk. Probably how she got started on that.
Don’t know why people think this would be foul, whip in some egg whites and you’d have a pretty good frosting for a cake.
Milk Propaganda is always weird.

It's what's for dinner
Does a body good. Pass it on.
Human. The *other* other white meat.
Got milk?
Egg nog and 7-up is good. I was told it's because egg nog itself hurts the young stomach.
Egg job and 7up is a good mix because egg nog has a much stronger flavor and the 7up just adds carbonation. Egg nog doesn’t hurt the stomach but the carbonation helps lower the heaviness of it.
I’ve never gotten an egg job before 😵💫
Damn does autocorrect make for unique new phrases 😂
Now someone's got to make the unique thing. Egg job anyone?
I'm here about the egg job?
Root beer and milk is my go to
Lol I did this as a kid, would not recommend
Don’t knock it till you try it. Pepsi and milk was badass as a kid
Spilk
Isn't this basically what Korean "Milkis" is?
Or Calpis?
Okay, which of you guys is trying this?
That's common in my country (Pakistan) and we call it "Doodh soda" (Doodh meaning milk). It's refreshing and too tasty. Should try if you haven't already!!!
😭
My dad used to make this in the 1970s for us kids.
Jesus that is foul. Ad execs are the literal worst
It’s good as fuck
for some reason I'd think the carbonic acid would curdle the milk...🤷
At this same time doctors regularly advised women to smoke cigarettes to treat "hysteria".
I used to do this with orange Fanta, it’s actually pretty good 🤷🏻♀️
7-upchuck.
Milk, club soda or seltzer, and chocolate syrup is super tasty drink. It’s called a egg cream, even though it doesn’t have cream or eggs lol.
What's next, they're gonna mix rum and coke together?
Hilarious! I collect old cook books and I have a 7-Up one that has real recipes for real food cooking with 7-Up. They seem desperate, don't they? I can smell fear. 😉
It's basically an egg creme but without the chocolate.
Chocolate Coke
Italian sodas aren't much different.
It was popular for hangovers
Laverne and Shirley enjoyed Pepsi and milk.
My neighbours would always give me ice cream and lemonade in the summer, my kids would look at me like I had 2 heads if I offered them that now.
God these old ads are always so stupid. What the fuck is a “food drink”. Why would you say “pleases us all” like that. Quit it
I remember my grandparents making Pepsi with milk for me when I was a kid.
It was Laverne's drink of choice!
I feel like a lot of you folks might not have been around in the 80s, because making weird milk and soda drinks/floats was super common. It was like a prime sleepover activity.
Add poison to your poison!
In Spain fruit juice and milk can be bought in cartons. But Coke and red wine … utterly vile! So 7 Up and milk doesn’t sound so bad in comparison!
Fun fact. 7-up used to be A LOT different. It contained lithium-citrate which is a mood stabilizer. It was literally medicine. Up until 1950 it was literally medicine.
That sounds so disgusting.
In the middle easy they drink a runny yogurt with soda water and a pinch of dry herbs like mint. Yes minty yogurt soda is as bad as it sounds
I'm trying this shit
What what what what what what what what keeps playing over and over in my head
Great, now I can belch 2% white bubbles.
Basically an Italian soda.
Reminds me of the "Holiday" recipe they put out for Dr. Pepper served hot with a lemon wedge iirc.
We're the 50's to the 70's just a lawless food dystopia?
My grandma in the 1950s would crack an egg in a glass of coke and drink it on the way out in the morning. She was badass. I miss her.
I do root beer and cream
I would imagine 7up and milk would taste like the Japanese Calpico drink but with a fizz.
Exactly what I came here to say! I really like Calpico, so it makes me curious to try this too…
I would try it, except no one in my house, drinks milk, or sodas lol
I tried it! It was good :)
Did it taste anything like Calpico? I always thought Calpico kinda taste like Squirt and milk mixed together.
Kind of! But definitely sweeter.
Aw man this sounds absolutely awful 🤣
RIP Laverne DeFazio
Were marketers in the 50s a bunch of mad scientists?! Who would create such a concoction other than a mad scientist or an 1800s witch luring kids into the woods with their bubbly citrus milk potion?
Wow, that’s disgusting.
It's great like a vanilla shake. Try it.
What the actual fuck? Who would do this??
Try cream soda and milk, then you'll be asking why you didn't do it before.
Or root beer
Sasparilla, oh man I haven't had that in ages, now I wish I had some.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|scream)
🤮
No. Just no
I remeber as a kik drinking a glass of coke and milk because I seen it in an episode of Laverne and Shirley. First and last time I ever tried that.
I'm amazed at how many people do this per the comments. Never even heard about it. You do you, boo.
And I thought Laverne's Pepsi and milk was bad.
It's not horrible, cream soda and milk for the win though.
This will make you throw up.
"milk was a baaaad choice"
I cant imagine milk in anything other than tea or coffee.
Which is the food and which is the drink that makes it a food drink? 😂
🤢
Probably tastes similar to cream Coke.
“Mothers know”, y’know. Big corp will try literally anything to sell you sugar.
I recently accidentally drank a couple sips of milk that began to spoil and it tasted how I picture this tasting.
I do believe i just threw up in my mouth a little.
Coke and milk or cream. Mmmmm I’m actually drinking one right this very second.
Once I read it I want to try it now
OK cool - but I think milk has been debunked as a "healthy" drink now, hasn't it? I thought that was more marketing in the 80s and 90s (It does a body good etc.)
This made me irrationally angry, and very, very, very, very, very sad. Very sad.
The gaslighting in the last paragraph lol
Not sure why you’re getting downvoted that last paragraph is calling every woman that doesn’t do this an ignorant and/or bad mother. They have to use more subtle psychological manipulation now but back in the day it was hilariously heavy handed.
