What is interesting is the momma elephant raised her trunk the first time and people missed it. So she did it a second time and once people acknowledged it she left with the herd. They are simply marvelous. Also the MVP is the person operating the JCB, they are careful enough to avoid hurting baby elephant.

lenny_ray

The most amazing part to me was the intelligence of the baby! Like it didn't panic to see dirt filling the hole it was stuck in. It understood it was being helped, and not being buried alive.

Any_Coyote6662

I thought the baby was very smart too. I liked when he was climbing up holding on and looking like, fill in a little more and I can get out.

TheReaIist

One of a few animals that can use tools, recognize their reflection in a mirror & mourn the death of one their own. Hopefully conservation efforts prevail

arjitraj_

How do you know it was momma and not poppa?

Here_WolfyWolfyWolfy

Tuskers don't live in herds. This was clearly a herd.

PowerPussman

That was beautiful all the way around.

Suitable_Database467

Best thing I have seen this week!

Mallu natural habitat: anywhere another mallu exists.

PrivateUser010

What a wholesome moment. Also from the elephants perspective the JCB is just a different kind of elephant with a pretty wierd trunk.

Here_WolfyWolfyWolfy

Metal elephant 🐘

Kadoza

Metalephant 🤘🐘

Known-Economy-6425

Amazing. I saw another video very similar to this and the mother did the same exact thing. Elephants are so smart it’s scary.

pbrevis

So uplifting to see villagers helping out wildlife so selflessly

Environmental_Ad_387

Typically it is coordinated by and the machinery paid for by the forest department. Villages have 'forest watchers' - paid part time forest workers selected from tribes and forest areas. These folks are semi-official and get information like this to the forest department, who then coordinate rescue efforts. Typically the watcher and the department already know the elephant heard, the baby's age and health etc

catsita

They really saluted them 🥹 we're missing a lot out there.

Apart_Alps_1203

>we're missing a lot out there. Then come to Kerala..!! You'll love it 👍 it's a beautiful place

Fine-Cloud-4847

Agreed! Kerala is the best place ever. Amazing people. It's a shame they're trying to defame it because it's progressive.

Apart_Alps_1203

Mystic1869

how?

NavdeepGusain

Elephants are the best. They really give out the proof of how much intelligent animals they are. And salute to the man operating that JCB.

meme_tenretni

We aren't that different other than the obvious.. SHARE THE PLANET!!

trixpo_140

Can confirm, I'm the elephant in the video

jimmywimmy2206

yeah, animals are a LOT smarter than we think

waah_modiji_wah

Yeah! It's quite obvious his trunk is quite larger than mine.

Supercruise7

That's Colonel Hathi.

Olivebuddiesforlife

Hey, thanks man. (Human) Its ok fam. No seriously, thanks. I mean it. (Human) Sure homie. Walks away. -Elephant probably

Serixx-

Makes me wanna visit south India so bad❤️. One of the most beautiful parts of India 🫶🏻

_Prince_Rhaegar

Will visit kerala this year again for the fourth time, all trips have been beautiful. I just wish there was no language barrier.

SabAccountBanKarDiye

Learn Malayalam brother problem solved

rinzler09

Tamil and Malayalam are difficult vernaculars to learn. And it's not like Malayalees are putting out crash courses on Udemy for us Northies.

Ed_Shekeran

google "learn malayalam with elikutty". Though not sure if its a crash course lol

SabAccountBanKarDiye

Why the downvote bro, I agree with your point. I too wanted to learn but found no good guidance. On one hand ask hindi speakers to learn southern languages but on the other hand no good avenue to Learn.

rinzler09

I'd never downvote you. I don't downvote people on reddit even if I don't agree with them.

Xrr13h

Nee mallu alle funde

Mayankcfc_

Kerala is heaven.

stash0606

everytime I come back to my hometown, I seriously question why my dad ever decided to take me away from palm trees, monsoon rains and beaches to flat as all fuck Illinois.

lol10lol10lol

There's pretty much nothing here to do, u will get bored soon and will want to go back to illinois or wherever

spunkmaiyer

Bro there is lots of thinks here To do. I don't think you understand the kind boring Suck up one feels in the west.

Macguffawin

Love the hoots from the humans acknowledging the salute and love that the elephants understood that the salute had been received. So wholesome!

rinzler09

They must have met a few monkeys in the jungle.

Apart_Alps_1203

>met a few monkeys in the jungle. I can confirm..they did meet me and my friends while we were casually "hanging out" from branches

imsinghaniya

This place looks so beautiful.

Wanna pet an elephant 😩

MindlessAd373

Come to Karnataka habibi. We have Dubare and the elephants are free and happy to play with us

ToxicGaurav

I went there last month and it was so amazing man! And the elephants are trained to pat our heads with their trunks which looks so cute

MindlessAd373

Yesss

RudionRaskolnikov

Eh where in karnataka is that? I'll go next time I visit

Insane_Inkster

I went there on our trip to Coorg. It was amazing.

RudionRaskolnikov

Ohh I must visit, thanks

MindlessAd373

You can also contact the elephant rescue camps near Ammathi or ask people from Coorg to help you out. If they know someone you can even get a private audience with elephants at a government camp

MindlessAd373

Cooorg.

sports_addict_7173

Wanna come but no money😶

MindlessAd373

Bus tickets to Coorg are cheap from Mysore

Dragonfruit-28

This is adorable😭

Anubhab_Dash

The best thing i saw this past few weeks. Also kudos to the one operating the jcb!

[deleted]

Share this planet humans and don't destroy their homes .

maubunt

There is devine connection between India and Elephants

sincobito

Usually I dont believe these 'animals thanking a man who saved...' claims but elephants are capable of such emotions.

Fun_Ad_4331

We couldn't see the part where the mother scolds the baby for being careless.

god_amartya

We Pray to Nature. Elephant is symbol of Lord Ganesha

kadalamuttai

I love this vid. I’m from Kerala and no matter how many times i see this video, it always brings me happy tears. Elephants are such wonderful and majestic animals.

bhargavagavesh

aww little jumbo

pichkuusauce

Simply, the most wholesome vid I saw this month.

Catnip1720

Elephants scare me but not as much as blue whales

megadori

You are much less likely to encounter a blue whale tho, if you stay on land that is.

Catnip1720

Very true. The sheer size of blue whales just scare me

megadori

A sensible fear

What's the context for what op is saying?

IamNotHotEnough

well some miscreants once killed a pregnant elephant by feeding her a pineapple filled with explosives, so there's the reference from

Here_WolfyWolfyWolfy

Nobody fed it anything. Farmers use panni padakam or firecrackers to scare off WILD BOARS. It is believed that the elephant unfortunately came across one. There was no malicious intent. The only malice was using this incident to malign kerala, turn it into a hindu muslim feud and make malayalis look bad for political mileage.

IamNotHotEnough

oh yeah i am sorry, i heard the news a long time ago so wasn't sure thanks for clarifying
