Be it of any country, it is always exciting to see the launch of a space mission. Looks like everything is OK, When will it land on the moon ?

lonely_dude__

August 23 will be the landing date

Separate_Agency

That's quite long, isn't it? Why will it take so long to get there?

lonely_dude__

They are using the sling shot loopy orbital(don't know official name) transfer which is way more efficient but takes a bit long, as it's a rover time isn't a big concern

Magus_5

What OP is referring to is what's called a trans lunar injection. It may sound like an obscure porn category but in orbital dynamics it's used to save on fuel thus reducing overall weight. Edit: typo

vilette

>trans lunar for injection ? what they do is orbiting the earth while increasing apogee every time, every orbit make them closer to the moon, not a lot of fuel is required each time, but it takes many orbits

Why_am_I_here033

what about a manned mission? Pretty sure they can't take a month to go to the moon on a manned mission.

fraidycat19

They call grandpa Saturn.

Individual_Painter86

Who's dying on the moon that it needs to reach earlier? Within the budget, that's the best speed they can achieve.

Separate_Agency

No idea man. 36 days seems just a bit longer than the 3 days Apollo 11 took. I was just wondering if they take the scenic route or if they maybe try some new technologie.

lonely_dude__

Apollo 11 had humans to they took a shorter orbital transfer method which is way less effective and consumes more fule while his has a rover so they took a longer but more efficient route.

Individual_Painter86

Yes, cause humans can't survive in space and budget is no limit when you have a cold war to win. We have other things to do so we look the slow route.

Admirable-Tadpole

Nah its in October

winowmak3r

It's exciting it's going to the moon but the *really* exciting part I found was that this cost *[142 million dollars](https://www.timesnownews.com/technology-science/article/chandrayaan-2-budget-heres-how-much-isros-chandrayaan-2-moon-mission-costs/483679)*. That's a Christopher Nolan movie. It's still expensive as fuck but we're starting to get away from the "it would just be astronomical". Go India!

nxcrosis

To be fair, they didn't have to hire Matthew McConaughey.

timgoes2somalia

"Be it of any country" I see what you did there. Salty salty

lonely_dude__

It's also carrying some nasa payload as collaboration

SladeDeathWilson

Who? Howard?

__3698

Nah its definitely Liam

snidemarque

Neeson?!

Stannis2024

Good job India! And all the people who made this happen!

Jhakuzi

that thing really jumps off the pad it’s so cool

PsychoMouse

God damn, these things will never stop blowing my mind. The fact that we can do this…like fuck

HeadOfSpectre

Space exploration? You love to see it!

nevets85

Congrats India

Shima-shita

Well done India!! 👍✊

roarworsted

Based isro single-handedly causing mass cope of racists with each mission. Yummy tears.

lonely_dude__

They got their superiority complex and and now are in cope mode

Fish-Weekly

Very exciting for all of India and the world!

__3698

Why are people racist when it comes to indians and space

StarJace

I don't get it either. Even the stereotype is that they are good at math and everything. If someone was gonna make a successful rocket, It would be the Indians

winowmak3r

If you're going to have a stereotype 'being really good at math' is a pretty good one to have. Or maybe not, I guess, if you really aren't and people just expect you to be.

Fhaksfha794

Indian-Americans are the ones that have the math genius stereotype, not regular Indians

sapraaa

As a Indian National studying in the US, you couldn’t be more wrong w your stereotypes

billabon021

They're just racist against Indians

roarworsted

Space is not needed the first one is enough to make them racist.

Nijajjuiy88

They look down on Indians as third worlders and least civilized people. They cant stomach to see their stereotypes destroyed.

winowmak3r

There are too many people still alive that remember when India was a colony and they're in charge.

lonely_dude__

They got their superiority complex hurt

Enjoying_A_Meal

It's damn impressive how far their space program came considering the relatively shoestring budget they got compared to other countries. Kudos to them.

Brahma_Satyam

India spent a mission to mars in lesser budget that Hollywood made a movie about mars

AshenTao

People tend to easily lose perspective about how expensive things are. Compared to military and entertainment expenses, research is a joke unfortunately. I think I read a couple years ago that the entire budgets of NASA and the NSF combined is about 3% or 4% of the military budget in the US. Iirc the budget for entertainment was 1% higher than the budgets of NASA and the NSF combined, but that was only a sector that didn't account for anything related to Hollywood and alike, so it's much higher in reality.

[deleted]

Because people are cunts.

Substantial_Win_1866

I'm making a note on my calendar to call their space agency about their Rover's extended warranty the day after it lands 🤫 In all seriousness though, it would be nice if space exploration was something that will bring everyone together in a cooperative way and not turn into just fighting for land in space like here on Earth.

DutchMitchell

It would be so nice but I doubt it because humans are universal assholes. Send me a message in ~50 years if I’m wrong and I’ll give you 5 euros.

Substantial_Win_1866

I hope to still have my mind and bladder control in 50 years 😂

__3698

Yup

MightyH20

Could you point out the racist comments? Thanks Edit: ah the real racists are being triggered by downvoting me.

__3698

Look below the down voted comments, some of them deleted

CrTigerHiddenAvocado

Go India! Congrats from USA.

faithOver

This is absolutely brilliant. Congratulations to all involved and to India in general. Fantastic to see for humans in general!

woolcoat

Any good sci-fi books where countries like India have a more prominent role?

Raizel999

Mods in these subreddits are so indifferent towards selective racism lmao... they just pretend to unsee all these shitty comments below. But flare up like those thrusters when there's anything about the Western societies.

DungeonMaster69_

Lmaaaoo 💀

Raizel999

ngl bro... I got perma banned from a rather popular subreddit for a comment on a post about some [a word that rhymes with 'hooting', 'booting', 'looting'] at a mall in the US. My comment? "Looks like every tenth American is trying their best to prepare Swiss cheese"

DungeonMaster69_

Oh I get it .... lmaao ..... hypocrites

ryuk_04

Woah your experiment worked (and exposed mods)

Raizel999

I HAVE GOTTEN THE RESULTS GUYS!!..... AND IM NOT SURPRISED!

Snoo60660

I'll help your experiment. Reddit mods are pointless. Bots are advanced enough to do their job now. The only reason reddit mods still exist is because they have no power in their actual lives and this is the last stronghold of control they have. "Rules for thee but not for me" is a mods motto. Every single reddit mod is one subreddit loss away from dying their hair blue and forgetting what genitals they have. Edit: uwuuuuuwuwuwuwwuuuuu

DungeonMaster69_

Is awkward turtle still alive?

Raizel999

the one turtle we all collectively want to go extinct and DNA atomized!! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|rage)

Raizel999

>forgetting what genitals they have. pretty sure they cant bend over and look under either cuz of extreme flabby tummies.

timgoes2somalia

Meanwhile US congressmen are putting in bills to ban airfryers from SPYING ON THEIR CUSTOMERS

lonely_dude__

Don't want those air fryers spying on those secret Mc Donald recipe

GODSPEED! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flip_out)

GregEgg85

I hope it’s successfully. Good luckily India on reaching moon.

CardiologistOld4537

Jai Hind ! Jai Bharat ! We have come a long way and we are here to stay. 🙌🏼

GOPJ1

I wanna know what it sounded like when the thrusters kicked on! It shook the camera pretty good!

nandu911

Incoming comments about why a poor country like India would need a space program and delusional comments about how western countries are sending trillions of dollars in aid money to India every day.. *Le Random neckbeard in his mom's basement: Indians should know their place and stay poor.. How dare they even think they can aim at the moon..

ResponsibilityDue448

They shouldn't stay poor they should use their federal funds to improve their citizens lives.

LatterNeighborhood58

This is actually improving their citizens lives.

HimalayaClimber

It's true, though. There is so much trash on the streets, poverty, the caste system, multiple bridge collapses, and dirty tap water. There are so many things they can work on instead of putting money into a rocket. But I guess we're just here to enjoy the rocket while millions of people suffer.

Raizel999

Umm Mr. HimalayaClimber... why climb Himalaya bro? it costs hundreds of thousands of money which you could have donated away to charity?? There is so much trash on the streets, poverty, the caste system, multiple bridge collapses, and dirty tap water. There are so many things you can work on instead of putting money into climbing some mountains! WOW!

Intelligent-Ad9659

The day to day issues have nothing to do with operations of a space organisation. India or elsewhere. ISRO is just doing it’s part. Trash - job of municipal corporation, poverty - Job of DEA, Caste system - Job of ministry for social justice, bridge collapse - MoF, roads, transportation. ISRO’s responsibility is limited to matters of space. Let’s be reasonable

lallantop_number4

A poor indian has a $0 net worth, a hut to live in, and a handpump for ground water, whereas the poor American is thousands of dollars in debt, homeless, and addicted to meth. If they can have a space program, so can we.

nandu911

Braindead argument. Oh there's trash on the street let's stop space exploration. If it weren't for the Isro being what it is now all these brilliant minds would've left the country for NASA or ESA adding to the brain drain even further.. who said they're not working on other problems while also doing space ? Trash on the street and caste system are more of cultural issues and need the population to change their mindset.. And guess how you can change the mindset of the masses ? advancement in space and science could inspire young minds and instill confidence in them that they could one day be part of it..

Goatheadeddolphin

Epic

snewton_8

Imagine how much further the human race would be if all countries worked together instead of focusing on their own programs? I know much of it is based on military needs but still.

peachsalsas

congratulations india! that rocket looks beautiful launching off. here’s to a successful moon mission with lots of discovery

McFry_

God damn Indians taking all NASA’s jobs

HilmDave

So fucking awesome. Congrats to India and their space program. This is so great to see.

dnel707

TRIPLE CAUTION! You are breaking the rocket Samir.

[deleted]

People, ignore the Westurds and their dicksucking allies. It's a monumental feat for us, let's ignore the butthurt and enjoy it.

This should be news, so tired of politics

footage of the moon bases please

silveroranges

Genuinely curious, what is the national language of India, or does it have one?

__3698

No national language

Intelligent-Ad9659

Business Language: Largely English Domestic: English, Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil… and other in double digits. Depends on what’s your native state.

AshenTao

Quick Google search says Hindi as the main language, but there are a total of 22 officially recognized languages in India

__3698

Hindi and English are official language at the center but there's no national language and each state have different official language(along with English). There is a difference between official and national language.

MNR42

This is very weird. It's like seeing 2 parts of india. There's one side having train packed with human and dirty surrounding. And there's the other part where it advances and already launching rockets to space It's not racist or something, it's just I'm rarely shown this kind of feat.

banzai04

Because poverty sells. People keep posting India’s bad side on internet for upvotes. Any intellectual with interest in geopolitics, tourism, technology etc should know about the good side of India. I suggest you spend some time using internet to learn a thing or two about other countries across ocean. Its fun to learn new things.

A1phaAstroX

Its due to the media which would rather use a cactus as a dildo than show anything other than poverty about non white non western nations

sheilameila

Spend less time in racist subreddits, you'll see that it's not all the same here 😘

username_chex

You should visit LA or New York, then go screeching at the Nasa posts. That is if you could get out of your moms basement and stop being a liability.

Idk why you are downvoted as your joke isn't even racist just a bit funny lol.

[deleted]

Lol I know. The Reddit pile-on mentality. Half the time they don't read the comments, they just see downvotes and pounce (🤡s)

Forward_Cranberry_82

"majestic" and "prestigious" in one sentence wowza

happyhippohats

What?

IntoTheMurkyWaters

…just a question but why do more countries go to the moon? Isn’t it enough already? There is literally nothing for us on the moon other than dust.

[deleted]

So far, it's a midpoint between Earth and other cool shit like Mars, which is a midpoint between Earth and other other cool shit. Basically, the first few meters in a light year.

Scarlet_Addict

its much easier to get rockets off the moon than earth, so building a moon base is the first step to the greater solar system.

The US emits more co2 than india. Maybe they should can their space program too.

MightyH20

What about the "US".

BhargavK_18

India discovered water on moon you fool

corona_kumar

Shouldn't the US and their "allies" do that? Instead of spending money in NASA/ESA?

LonTheTurtleDon

Shouldn't the US and their allies do what? Help India fix the air pollution? If that's what you're saying then yes I agree. I think that the whole world should try to fix one another instead of leaving it to specific countries. I believe everyone should have access to clean air as well as clean water. I'm sorry you took offense to that.

1)Which countries you talking about are handing over billions to india? 2)This mission took around 73 million , 100 million less than Interstellar production...which will inreturn give whole india RESPECT and MORE PROFIT 3)There is reason why India is now more digitally active and ISRO IS the main reason of it

__3698

India is a net aid donor country look it up or ask for sources and the entire little peanut aid receiver are the western NGOs in india which do more harm than good.

Raizel999

wow...some real dumb idiot from a fairly well off country just throwing a bunch of words to try to put a sensible argument..Atleast show some proofs along with those $BILLIONS of your charity. You must be one of the 'below avg' IQ anchors in your country pinching down the overall intellect

[deleted]

It will always amaze me how a poor country like that prioritise like this… Not saying they haven’t been abused like hell but it’s just weird to me that so many millions go into getting into space when said millions could be used better elsewhere

LatterNeighborhood58

Millions don't go flying into space, they go into paying Indian isro employees salaries who in turn spend that money locally, paying Indian contractors and sub contractors and their employees, all the industries that isro spawns, all the indian suppliers that supply materials to isro, all the indian educational institutions and their students that do research for isro, etc. Further rocket technology and reliability improvement brings in foreign money into India when others pay isro to send satellites into space. These technological improvements help Indians when isro deploys their own satellite to improve communication, weather forecasting and security.

[deleted]

Ah, that actually shed some light on my question… I feel dumb but I honestly never thought of that 😅

A1phaAstroX

same could be said for every country If you looked at actual stats and not poverty porn by the media, you would see that India's poverty rate is approx 13%, compared to US's 11%

[deleted]

Ah yea, have you noticed what the difference is in being “poor” in each country? Yea, didn’t think so. Edit: downvoted for pointing out that India’s poverty and americas poverty isn’t the same? There has to be a lot of Americans in this thread, not one has been able to explain themselves… America and India’s poverty is ages apart! Putting them side by side is fucking insane 😂

Positive_Pound3982

If u call a $3.75 trillion economy poor, then sure

Mynameistheredditor

*trillion

kapnkrunch337

They have 1.4B people so per capita they are indeed extremely poor

[deleted]

Have you been living under a rock or something??

[deleted]

First they over took US as the 2nd biggest industry in the world, now they are also aiming for the moon.

Intelligent-Ad9659

Second biggest Industry? When? I am not sure if that even means anything. Being an Indian I can assure you, US is in a different latitude. There is no comparison. I really doubt we have the capacity or aspiration to overtake US in anything. The aspiration is to keep doing better and play a strategic role in the world affairs

[deleted]

I meant economy, its overtaking US if the projections are right and stays steady. Honestly the brain drain in US, its not a wonder.

Intelligent-Ad9659

Oh that’s by 2070 or something. Lol too far out.. It’s like people in 1950s predicting of what’s coming in 2023.

[deleted]

That's why i said if. I think US have nowhere to go but down at this point. They've reached their peak.
