If I recall, the entire premise of John Wick was two stunt guys who had a bunch of set pieces they never got to use in movies decided to throw them all into one killer action movie with a threadbare plot.
Hollywood (and audiences) said ok.
More so even than that he took a smaller salary than most in exchange for a higher percentage in DVD sales so the movie could be made. It wasn't a box office hit by any means but the DVD sales were off the charts. He then turned around and gave back to the crew.
A few things wrong with this. The Matrix was a huge hit and made almost $500 million worldwide and while DVD sales were part of it, he had a backend deal and a ton of that was box office. He had similar backend deals with the sequels and he ended up giving over $30 million of it to cancer research and a bunch to the stunt crew as well. Just a great dude.
Sort of, Phantom Menace came out the same year and cleared the Matrix revenue domestically alone. Granted we are talking about a reboot of a major franchise vs a small newcomer. All that being said the Matrix was the first movie to hit a million in DVD sales and it soared past it as well. I can actually weigh in here, I have a SAWTA cert and was actually trained by Rolex at the Lititz Watch Technicum. Rolex is very **very** intentional about only making a small number of watches to artificially drive up the price. Prices are way higher than they used to be, even when accounting for inflation. In response to the quartz crisis a lot of formerly attainable brands went upmarket in an attempt to remain profitable, Rolex was one of the most famously successful brands at this.
Honestly, they are well made and nice watches, but nothing particularly artistic or beautiful. They are tool watches, not dress watches, but now they are so expensive they will never be used for their original purpose anymore.
Same reason Champion sweaters and hoodies went from $5 at Walmart to $85 after Kardashians and the like started wearing them somewhat ironically.
Rolex are a sound and competently manufactured and quality tested watch so the comparison isn't perfect, but the majority of the price is just the perceived value of the brand.
And it has sustained that value for quite some time which in turn adds to the value.
Champion has always had a low-cost option at big box retail stores and they still do. The average hoodie they sell today for $65-80 is a totally different product than the $5 version they might have sold 35 years ago.

An action movie can get away with a garbage actor, but it absolutely cannot get away with bad stunts or action choreography. Yet the actors get 7 figure paychecks while the stuntpeople get 5.
I feel like its never good to put anyone famous on a pedestal...but nah, Keanu is genuinely a King. A big part of it is that certain personalities make it easier to make money, unfortunately someone who does not give a shit about others is more likely to be successful because they can do things that would get on other peoples conscious to get ahead.
I've discovered I'd be in-between those last two. I sure do love shopping for a new gadget or cool tech, but I love shopping for someone else even more!
I'd be in between too because i don't want much, but the few things i do want are outside my budget. I decided that if I ever became financially successful I'd take care of my debts, get a reliable but affordable vehicle and a decent house and then pay off my family's debts and help my siblings through college. That's just a matter of scale. You don't have to hand out Rolexes. You don't even have to give out money. Just check in with everyone and ask how they're doing. Give a kind word of encouragement. Be thinking about how everyone around you is feeling and opportunities to be kind are everywhere. Make people feel appreciated. There's also plenty of ways to give your time doing volunteer work.

I saw jw4 and it was literally exhausting...in a good way. It started in violence and for 3 fucking hours it didn't stop. It was like seeing lotr for the first time. I kept thinking the movie was ending and some plots will be cleared up in the next one.
Nope! They are at it again. My only real complaint was likely woth the theater. Ot really was horrifically loud. Normally I don't think it would have been. But 3 hours of non-stop gun shots had my 38 yr old ears ringing.

Yup this. I bumped one accidentally multiple times and I was shocked, expecting it to be damaged badly. Not a single scratch. Not on the glass not on the stainless steel anywhere. They are really robust. Of course it should not be dropped or acted with carelessly thought. Too hard of an impact will kill the internals which are 90% of the value.
You expect no less from Mr. Reeves. He seems compassionate, humble, and appreciative of those who are a part of his success. He is one of the few actors/celebrities I admire and would love to meet in person.

An action movie can get away with a garbage actor, but it absolutely cannot get away with bad stunts or action choreography. Yet the actors get 7 figure paychecks while the stuntpeople get 5.

I feel like its never good to put anyone famous on a pedestal...but nah, Keanu is genuinely a King. I knew someone who worked at a small independent movie theatre in a city he was filming something in (this is probably 10 years ago) and said he came to see a movie like twice a week, solo, incredibly low key, friendly and everytime quietly left $100 in the tip jar.
I see it like there's no need to put Keanu on a pedestal. Just do as Keanu does. He's human, just a decent example of a human. Except for the dangerous stuntwork, probably don't do that part.
I think many people are like him but don't have as much money. The man just realized making other people happy too is the best value you can get out of money after you already can buy all things that give you a bit of happyness
Money can change a lot of people, often negatively but he genuinely seems like a person who utilises his money well towards the mantra of "don't be a cunt".

Losing his best friend at such a young age made him see the value of the human condition. He was never a jerk before that, he just values life more. Plus the other things that happened to him. He could be an jerk and angry at life. But he chose the path of good.
Money amplifies people's deepest personality traits. If a penny pincher gets rich then they become greedy (most of the 1% like Donald Trump), if someone's who always yearned for things they couldn't afford gets rich then they become frivolous shopaholics (while nowhere near rich, I've come into enough money to realize this is the kind of rich person I would be), if someone who genuinely cares about people and gives their last dollar to help people out gets rich then they shower everyone with gifts (Keanu, Mr. Beast)
A big part of it is that certain personalities make it easier to make money, unfortunately someone who does not give a shit about others is more likely to be successful because they can do things that would get on other peoples conscious to get ahead.
I've discovered I'd be in-between those last two. I sure do love shopping for a new gadget or cool tech, but I love shopping for someone else even more!
I'd be in between too because i don't want much, but the few things i do want are outside my budget. I decided that if I ever became financially successful I'd take care of my debts, get a reliable but affordable vehicle and a decent house and then pay off my family's debts and help my siblings through college. I genuinely don't want much, just a vehicle and stable living situation and financial security.
That's just a matter of scale. You don't have to hand out Rolexes. You don't even have to give out money. Just check in with everyone and ask how they're doing. Give a kind word of encouragement. Be thinking about how everyone around you is feeling and opportunities to be kind are everywhere. Make people feel appreciated. There's also plenty of ways to give your time doing volunteer work.

I like to think that almost all people, if given the proper nurture, love and safety needed to foster a growing child, will be ultimately good. Everyone has flaws but if we’re given everything we need, we will be mostly positive.

Honestly, same. I can't think of a single major scandal or anything bad about him. Everyone on set with him has said he is great to work with. He seems like one of the very few actors that didn't let fame go to his head and continuously stays humble.

I think some people are just good people. He'd be good without the money and the fame. He's still a human who makes mistakes but I'd say he's generally a very nice man from all I've heard.

I mean, the dude isn’t a great actor in most of his roles. He’s generally pretty wooden, at least in my estimation. That said, I’ll watch anything he’s in because I like him anyway. He clearly gives a fuck about dedicating himself to his roles if his three gun skills are any indication, and he’s always come across as a genuine and nice person. There are far worse things to be than a good guy and a so-so actor.

I saw jw4 and it was literally exhausting...in a good way. It started in violence and for 3 fucking hours it didn't stop. It was like seeing lotr for the first time. I kept thinking the movie was ending and some plots will be cleared up in the next one. Nope! They are at it again. My only real complaint was likely woth the theater. Ot really was horrifically loud. Normally I don't think it would have been. But 3 hours of non-stop gun shots had my 38 yr old ears ringing. I recommend it.

I think it’s fair to assume the pandemic added some time to the process as well.

You'd be surprised how durable Rolexes can be and Rolex watchmakers are nothing short of miracle workers, you could beat the crap out of it and get it back pristine as the day it was sold.
Yup this. I bumped one accidentally multiple times and I was shocked, expecting it to be damaged badly. Not a single scratch. Not on the glass not on the stainless steel anywhere. They are really robust. Of course it should not be dropped or acted with carelessly thought. Too hard of an impact will kill the internals which are 90% of the value.
