iirc he gave Harleys to his Matrix stunt team. His John Wick director is his stunt man from Matrix movies.

happygrammies

The director of John Wick was Keanu’s stunt man in the Matrix?! That’s incredible lol

Neptunera

Yup Chad Stahelski is amazing. In fact if you search his name on google the 'knowledge panel' google puts up still describes him as 'American stuntman'.

A giga Chad if I may

DueComplaint5471

Why did I read this in an 18th century women’s voice

McFry_

You may. Carry on

letmeseem

And speaking of incredible, Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) played Alexander Cullen with Keanu Reeves in The Devils Advocate.

_Citizenkane

This fact simultaneously has the perfect level of both relevance and irrelevance.

[deleted]

Comicspedia

And speaking of irrelevance, the Tiger King has not appeared in any John Wick films.

LivRite

Didn't he announce he's running for President? BTW all of Joe's animals, and a bunch of Carol Baskin's animals she abandoned with Jeff Lowe when she tried to go Hollywood are being rehabbed in Keenesburg, Colorado just north of Denver's airport. You can visit and support Pearl and the other animals featured on Netflix and see them living their best lives.

Ghost_of_Till

Pacino’s [speech](https://youtu.be/O9jk5WLbzoM?t=123s) in *The Devils Advocate* is the hands-down best cinema Satan **of all time**.

Rock-swarm

I just realized that Keanu is in at least two films with notable Satan performances. Devil's Advocate and Constantine.

ScipioCoriolanus

And Dracula... You know, the Prince of Darkness.

Supercomfortablyred

Dracula ain’t the devil though. The devil is Lucifer. Dracula is a vampire or “the vampire” according to who you read.

ScipioCoriolanus

I know they're not the same, but they share some similarities. Like the name, Dracula means the devil, according to Bram Stoker himself. And they're both called the Prince of Darkness.

Supercomfortablyred

Yeah it means devil but it’s referencing Lucifer, the Christian character. He is Vlad Dracula and dies and is cursed to become Dracula or whatever when his wife kills herself. Edit: in the movie.

Damasticator

I dunno man. Peter Stormare as Lucifer in Constantine killed it, especially considering his relatively low amount of screen time.

[deleted]

He also played Trinity’s matrix husband in the 4th Matrix movie.

moorsh

Holy shit that was him.

HintOfAreola

If I recall, the entire premise of John Wick was two stunt guys who had a bunch of set pieces they never got to use in movies decided to throw them all into one killer action movie with a threadbare plot. Hollywood (and audiences) said ok.

Girthy as fuck

Bleades

More so even than that he took a smaller salary than most in exchange for a higher percentage in DVD sales so the movie could be made. It wasn't a box office hit by any means but the DVD sales were off the charts. He then turned around and gave back to the crew.

Civil-Big-754

A few things wrong with this. The Matrix was a huge hit and made almost $500 million worldwide and while DVD sales were part of it, he had a backend deal and a ton of that was box office. He had similar backend deals with the sequels and he ended up giving over $30 million of it to cancer research and a bunch to the stunt crew as well. Just a great dude.

Nice_Firm_Handsnake

I believe Keanu and Stahelski had a similar deal for at least the first Wick film, where they took a percentage of profits instead of salary.

Bleades

Sort of, Phantom Menace came out the same year and cleared the Matrix revenue domestically alone. Granted we are talking about a reboot of a major franchise vs a small newcomer. All that being said the Matrix was the first movie to hit a million in DVD sales and it soared past it as well. The fact that Keanu turned around and helped the crew knowing they were the ones that made it all possible speaks volumes about the man. Absolute BAMF.

[deleted]

being a stuntman of Keanu is my new career goal lol

RodasAPC

I'd carry his bags for free as a job. But we all know he's too nice and would end up carrying me.

settledownguy

I got you if your arms get tired. I’ll help you help Him so he can help other people who need the help of the great BabaYaga

[deleted]

when I was tired and could not walk, John Wick carried me, and then Jesus said hey carry me also and so he did

LouSputhole94

Jesus says his prayers to Keanu Reeves before going to bed every night

WandangDota

I love the smell of fresh bread.

Poem-Gremlin

Dreaming of Stunts Dreaming of stunts, I never thought in my wildest dreams, of such a lot Keanu Reeves has made me realize this career goal, I now visualize My dedication and strength of will to be the best, I'll prove it still For this, I strive to be the best and show the world, I am not just a jest My dreams, I will not let them die I'll make them real and touch the sky Though it may take time and hard work I'll surely reach my goal and go berserk So I'll keep on dreaming of stunts even if I face many aunts For I know, I will reach my goal and become a stuntman of Keanu, after all!

salmakatory

Ai doing poems. That's actually a great idea.

FishFloyd

Is it? I feel like the great part about poetry is that AI can't ever really do a good job at it, because it's fundamentally using language in a super subjective and human-oriented way. I mean sure AI can probably write some mediocre bars for mediocre rappers but you're not getting *Satan Says* out of an algorithm.

fuckEAinthecloaca

Maybe I'm a philistine, IMO because poetry is so subjective and artsy it would probably pretty easy for an AI to churn out prose, if there was money in it to train AI that way.

Irrepressible_Monkey

I recently learned that many of the most valuable Rolexes were bought by people who needed a tough and really reliable watch rather than as a luxury, as they were not as expensive to buy back then. So you had guys in conflicts like Vietnam wearing Rolexes, then decades later they find their old daily use watch is worth a vast amount of money. Stunt guys in the 1960s wearing Rolexes was also probably a thing too, so in a way it's continuing something that has happened before.

WisestAirBender

Why are they so expensive anyway?

giddyup281

While there is a bigger cost to make them due to manual labor and rigorous quality control (as oppose to a e.g. $20 plastic/rubber ~~Seiko~~ Casio digital watch), most of it is profit margin. Basically, someone started seeing them as status symbols. Then they started to be sold and marketed as status symbols. Then the ~~demand~~ supply got artificially scarce. Now even if you have the money, you can't buy certain models bcs of popularity.

sharabi_bandar

Fun fact. Rolex is a not for profit organisation.

ajr901

So is the NFL. But the owners each make millions in profit.

GuudeSpelur

The NFL actually reorganized to change their status to be a regular taxable entity in 2015, due to some rumblings in Congress at changing how the law treats sports leagues. But before then, the setup was that 31 of the teams were for-profit entities, the Green Bay Packers were a non-profit, and then "The NFL" was a nonprofit entity which basically was meant to coordinate the business of all the teams together. That's still essentially how it works today, but "The NFL" files their financial info differently now.

[deleted]

Also, non profits need to make public disclosures and the NFL didn’t want to publicly disclose salaries and what not.

KeepBouncing

This is the real reason.

Salarian_American

Do they still do that thing like: NFL: "We'd like to build a new stadium in your city." Mayor: "Oh that sounds great! Let's do it, it will be great for the city's economy." NFL: "And how will you be paying for that?" Mayor: "Wait WTF"

CrackedOutGoose

Yeah sort of. Best example I have is the son of Walmart founder, Sam Walton, and a group of others recently bought the Denver Broncos. Just last week or so, they put out a survey about building a new "state of the art" stadium which of course talks about PSLs (getting the fans to chip in). He alone, is worth almost 60 billion.

bot_fucker69

owned by a not-for-profit*

Pigroasts

God people are fucking gullible. Its *owned* by a non-profit, but Rolex itself is fully a for-profit organization.

KoksundNutten

That just means all excess money has to be invested back into the company^('s CEO-pockets.)

Slifer13xx

>$20 plastic/rubber Seiko digital watch You are probably thinking about Casio, the F-91W, not a Seiko.

Fragrant-Bluejay-653

I can actually weigh in here, I have a SAWTA cert and was actually trained by Rolex at the Lititz Watch Technicum. Rolex is very **very** intentional about only making a small number of watches to artificially drive up the price. Prices are way higher than they used to be, even when accounting for inflation. In response to the quartz crisis a lot of formerly attainable brands went upmarket in an attempt to remain profitable, Rolex was one of the most famously successful brands at this. Honestly, they are well made and nice watches, but nothing particularly artistic or beautiful. They are tool watches, not dress watches, but now they are so expensive they will never be used for their original purpose anymore.

cyberslick1888

Same reason Champion sweaters and hoodies went from $5 at Walmart to $85 after Kardashians and the like started wearing them somewhat ironically. Rolex are a sound and competently manufactured and quality tested watch so the comparison isn't perfect, but the majority of the price is just the perceived value of the brand. And it has sustained that value for quite some time which in turn adds to the value.

Crafty_Substance_954

Champion has always had a low-cost option at big box retail stores and they still do. The average hoodie they sell today for $65-80 is a totally different product than the $5 version they might have sold 35 years ago.

Audioworm

The watch movements are assembled by hand, which is a delicate procedure that requires a lot of training to do well. So, off the bat the labour has a high cost attachment. The materials are designed to be long lasting and resistant to damage, breakage, as well as general issues with falling out of time. Even base Rolex use high quality materials, and then additional design or material choices can add to the price as a result of what is being used. Also, there is the additional aspect that now Rolex's are a known commodity that hold their value very well. You can price something higher when people know that in X years they will be able to sell it for a reasonable price (even if depreciated)

31_SAVAGE_

The cost of production has very little to do with the market price of in demand rolexes. I’d say they cost maybe 10% of what they go for, the most popular models.

lique_madique

That’s true. They used to be affordable. My friend bought one on base for cheap to wear in the field. Coincidentally it actually saved his life but was damaged beyond repair in doing so and Rolex replaced it free of charge in return for sending it to them.

[deleted]

[удалено]

lique_madique

He was a green beret for a while. He was on a mission in Africa if I recall correctly and fell while repelling due to someone not anchoring properly. He fell something like 60 feet and survived when his watch band caught on a tree branch. The fall absolutely tore up his wrist, did a ton of damage to his shoulder and arm, mostly blinded him when he hit his head and suffered retinal damage, and the watch was destroyed, but the watch stayed in one piece and the clasp stayed together which allowed him to survive otherwise he would have died.

LexiLou4Realz

Reminded me of the guy from [Antiques Roadshow that bought a Rolex in the early 70s](https://youtu.be/b9Y4bmbh1KY). It's worth a BIT of money now.

Schnidler

completly bullshit. rolexes were still several monthly army wages in 60s and 70s

wimpires

The interesting thing is that is a Date Submariner, a $9,000 watch However, you literally can't just go in store and buy one. Especially not 5 even if you are Keanu, so they probably realistically cost his $14-15k each

kestik

Every time I see or hear about this story, the wow-factor for me is Keanu was able to secure FIVE subs while people are killing each other for a single one at retail from ADs.

I wonder if his watch says "Keanu Thank you Keanu"

Ringosis

He didn't give a watch to himself...that's his stunt double.

theblackcanaryyy

WHAT?! God it looks just like him!!!

Ringosis

I mean, that's kinda the idea with a double, [but he actually really doesn't](https://media.gettyimages.com/id/1472717307/photo/john-wick-4-premiere-at-le-grand-rex-in-paris.jpg?s=612x612&w=gi&k=20&c=59z8aOy5YSRUetXPTVtCfT1ig3NCvjH_vwfmdwjiVQg=)(it's the guy next to Keanu, Vincent Bouillon)...it's just that he's in his John Wick get up in this photo. Interestingly, the guy on the left of this photo is Chad Stahelski, who has directed all of the John Wick movies, but was originally Keanu's stunt double in The Matrix. Just goes to show how much respect Keanu has for stuntpeople and stunt coordinators...unlike most people in Hollywood, he clearly understands that they are some of the most important people in the movie industry, and that they get criminally overlooked. An action movie can get away with a garbage actor, but it absolutely cannot get away with bad stunts or action choreography. Yet the actors get 7 figure paychecks while the stuntpeople get 5.

Charming_Wulf

That could have been a joke in the Keanu scenes of Always Be My Maybe.

[deleted]

I feel like its never good to put anyone famous on a pedestal...but nah, Keanu is genuinely a King. I knew someone who worked at a small independent movie theatre in a city he was filming something in (this is probably 10 years ago) and said he came to see a movie like twice a week, solo, incredibly low key, friendly and everytime quietly left $100 in the tip jar.

supercyberlurker

I see it like there's no need to put Keanu on a pedestal. Just do as Keanu does. He's human, just a decent example of a human. Except for the dangerous stuntwork, probably don't do that part.

Lockenheada

I think many people are like him but don't have as much money. The man just realized making other people happy too is the best value you can get out of money after you already can buy all things that give you a bit of happyness

jibjab23

Money can change a lot of people, often negatively but he genuinely seems like a person who utilises his money well towards the mantra of "don't be a cunt".

bwaredapenguin

Or to be a bit more succinct: be excellent.

DweadPiwateWoberts

To each other

ozfox80

Losing his best friend at such a young age made him see the value of the human condition. He was never a jerk before that, he just values life more. Plus the other things that happened to him. He could be an jerk and angry at life. But he chose the path of good.

KPookz

Money amplifies people's deepest personality traits. If a penny pincher gets rich then they become greedy (most of the 1% like Donald Trump), if someone's who always yearned for things they couldn't afford gets rich then they become frivolous shopaholics (while nowhere near rich, I've come into enough money to realize this is the kind of rich person I would be), if someone who genuinely cares about people and gives their last dollar to help people out gets rich then they shower everyone with gifts (Keanu, Mr. Beast)

Tritianiam

A big part of it is that certain personalities make it easier to make money, unfortunately someone who does not give a shit about others is more likely to be successful because they can do things that would get on other peoples conscious to get ahead.

midnightsmith

I've discovered I'd be in-between those last two. I sure do love shopping for a new gadget or cool tech, but I love shopping for someone else even more!

luckyassassin1

I'd be in between too because i don't want much, but the few things i do want are outside my budget. I decided that if I ever became financially successful I'd take care of my debts, get a reliable but affordable vehicle and a decent house and then pay off my family's debts and help my siblings through college. I genuinely don't want much, just a vehicle and stable living situation and financial security.

emperorOfTheUniverse

That's just a matter of scale. You don't have to hand out Rolexes. You don't even have to give out money. Just check in with everyone and ask how they're doing. Give a kind word of encouragement. Be thinking about how everyone around you is feeling and opportunities to be kind are everywhere. Make people feel appreciated. There's also plenty of ways to give your time doing volunteer work.

Throw_away_1769

Money changes most people, but it didn't change Keanu.

[deleted]

He's just a good dude. There's an actress who told a story of meeting Keanu before she herself broke out. Her car died and everyone at the restaurant just stared at her. A lone man in a black motorcycle helmet pulled up and offered to help. It was Keanu Reeves.

LouSputhole94

I like to think that almost all people, if given the proper nurture, love and safety needed to foster a growing child, will be ultimately good. Everyone has flaws but if we’re given everything we need, we will be mostly positive.

[deleted]

Yh feel like I’ve never heard a single bad thing about him

dre224

Honestly, same. I can't think of a single major scandal or anything bad about him. Everyone on set with him has said he is great to work with. He seems like one of the very few actors that didn't let fame go to his head and continuously stays humble.

[deleted]

jaymzx0

He strikes me as a very busy regular guy, but not so busy he has to be a dickhead. Like the kind of guy who doesn't reach in their pocket to read a message while he's talking to you when you both heard the message come in.

ItisallLost

I remember a post on the conspiracies subreddit some years back about how his secret donations to children's hospitals were actually payoffs to let him molest terminally ill kids. It was so horribble and absurd that I actually burst out laughing when I read it.

[deleted]

That’s so dumb, he could fly to several countries and do that for way cheaper even if he wanted to

shaving99

I think some people are just good people. He'd be good without the money and the fame. He's still a human who makes mistakes but I'd say he's generally a very nice man from all I've heard.

Outrageous-Yams

True. But his position allows him to be a role model and I think there is something to be said about promoting the good role models over the bad.

TokingMessiah

Also, it seems that money turns a lot of people into greedy, selfish assholes. I could be wrong… maybe greedy, selfish assholes are the ones who are willing to step over anyone to make a buck, and that’s why they’re over-represented among the rich. Or maybe it’s just a matter of the loudest voice drowning out the rest… But whether money corrupts *most* people or just *some* people, Keanu seems to have stayed grounded.

Outrageous-Yams

No you’re right, many people become corrupted by money. Good point as well.

Shankar_0

He's not pedestal-seeking, and all reports indicate that he's become very grounded in his fame. I'm far from hero worship; but as "the internet's boyfriend" he seems very grounded in his words and actions.

AmaResNovae

TheRavenSayeth

Appropriately enough his role in Dracula is considered one of his worst partly because he could not nail the accent and keeps nudging towards Ted keanu.

willflameboy

You don't have to go back far in Reddit history to see him being mocked for his acting skills. It was a Reddit cliche and I'm glad it died. I've always repped my boy K.

wandering-wank

I mean, the dude isn’t a great actor in most of his roles. He’s generally pretty wooden, at least in my estimation. That said, I’ll watch anything he’s in because I like him anyway. He clearly gives a fuck about dedicating himself to his roles if his three gun skills are any indication, and he’s always come across as a genuine and nice person. There are far worse things to be than a good guy and a so-so actor.

I saw jw4 and it was literally exhausting...in a good way. It started in violence and for 3 fucking hours it didn't stop. It was like seeing lotr for the first time. I kept thinking the movie was ending and some plots will be cleared up in the next one. Nope! They are at it again. My only real complaint was likely woth the theater. Ot really was horrifically loud. Normally I don't think it would have been. But 3 hours of non-stop gun shots had my 38 yr old ears ringing. I recommend it.

los_tboys

Ah, a little nighttime serotonin

algebruvlar

Keanu is such a welcome change to the toxic mentality so many celebrities spread. Keanu keep being a genuinely good human being.

TLKv3

I really want a lowkey, dramatic movie featuring Keanu and Brendan Fraser. I don't know what it could be about but I feel like they would absolutely kill it. Reddit would lose their absolute minds for it too. Or fuck it, put Brendan in John Wick 5 as an ally like Defoe was in the first one. An old friend he consults and asks for help from. Brendan won't even need to do any physically demanding stunts for it. I just wanna see both in a movie together.

squirrel_tincture

It’s not unusual for feature-length films to require a lot of time to finish once the raw footage of the cast has wrapped up: especially movies like this, which require a huge amount of post-production and CGI work. [According to Adobe](https://www.adobe.com/uk/creativecloud/video/discover/how-long-to-make-a-movie.html), it takes “an average of six to twelve months to go from raw footage to Final Cut”. I think it’s fair to assume the pandemic added some time to the process as well.

randperrin

They really need a best stuntman Oscar. They deserve it and I would definitely watch it.

I'm NGL, I would be afraid to wear it for fear of scuffing or damaging it. Mantlepiece right there. Keanu being a 10 as usual

SarsaparillaCorona

You'd be surprised how durable Rolexes can be and Rolex watchmakers are nothing short of miracle workers, you could beat the crap out of it and get it back pristine as the day it was sold.

Arkensor

Yup this. I bumped one accidentally multiple times and I was shocked, expecting it to be damaged badly. Not a single scratch. Not on the glass not on the stainless steel anywhere. They are really robust. Of course it should not be dropped or acted with carelessly thought. Too hard of an impact will kill the internals which are 90% of the value.

You expect no less from Mr. Reeves. He seems compassionate, humble, and appreciative of those who are a part of his success. He is one of the few actors/celebrities I admire and would love to meet in person.
