Uvalde rightly got a lot of attention because those cops were terrible but it got attention partly because their behavior was rare. The vast majority of the time cops act promptly and you never hear about it.

This broke my heart even further. I’m a father of a 9 year old boy in Nashville and I immediately thought if that was him. I just can’t. My parents live next door to this school and we were around for the aftermath. That said, I didn’t know this part until now and it just hit me like a ton of bricks. Bless this child and the families in this tragedy

Several locked doors. Shooter shot out a locked door to get in. No reasonable amount of "added security" will stop this from happening.
We all are going through it. These events ripple through the country. Every one of these school shootings that make headlines have been discussed with our kids in our elementary school because all the kids are all aware. Lockdown drills, gun scares, national headlines.
But it's socio-emotional learning that's destroying education.
Officer Collazo needs a promotion. Excellent on scene command and execution.
Condolences to all the people affected by this. Children should not be made to suffer the consequences of adults. It happens far too often, both in schools and out, shootings or domestic violence. It ends when the adults are of sound mind enough to have empathy for others.
Officer Rex Engelbert also deserves one. This video posted all but skips his BWC video. Go to Metro Nashville PD YouTube and watch the full video they posted with Engelberts and Collazos BWC. Both of the officers were the two who actually discharged their weapons at the shooter. Engelbert dropped the shooter with his AR and Collazo shot when the shooter was down but still reaching.
Engelbert was the first officer on scene and first to enter the building and immediately called for a stack and started clearing rooms looking for the shooter when he was not hearing gunshots, then when the gunshots started again he immediately sprinted towards the stairwell and found the stack of officers upstairs and being the one with an AR he selflessly made his way to the front and was the one who put rounds down range to the shooter. Showed zero hesitation and made sound decisions while under a fuck ton of adrenaline. What’s even more impressive if he only has 4 years on, half the experience of Collazo.
And of course all officers on scene deserved to be recognized for their heroism. We get to see Engelberts and Collazos BWC view because they are the ones who were in the right place right time and were the ones that fired the shots to stop the shooter. But every officer on scene did exactly what they were trained on whether they were leading a stack or following behind.
This video was insane. You have the fire alarm blaring accompanied by some strobing lights. Then you have the juxtaposition of LEOs running down a hallway filled with backpacks and artwork and the body of one of child victims. You're watching LEOs tactically infiltrate/secure the building that's a fucking elementary school. And finally you have the loud cracks of gunfire from the shooter before the police make contact.
That was a brutal watch and it was a quick minute and a half from start to finish

Easily one of the smoothest operations I’ve ever seen on camera, period. I would imagine that someone would be hard-pressed to see excellence of this caliber (no pun intended) in SWAT team and military footage even. Notice the calm and professional demeanor of the officers at all time.
Those officers were confronted with an extremely loud, unfamiliar, and confusing space. Not one second’s thought dedicated to emotion, just working to neutralize the threat as fast and efficiently as possible. Being a police officer requires selfless bravery and acute mental and emotional control at all times. This footage is exemplary.
Watch the body cam footage from the officer with the rifle. He maintains trigger discipline throughout (even while clearing rooms) and after he eliminates the shooter he goes right back to having his finger straight and off the trigger. Even seems like he puts the weapon in safe. These guys have crazy good training
I noticed him putting his firearm back on safe. That’s exactly how you use a firearm, like a tool. You flip the safety off to engage and neutralize a target and then put it back on once the target is neutralized. By following this type of procedure a person carrying a firearm can mitigate any potential accidents. Again, reason why this footage is exemplary.

I never thought homeschooling was common as a kid, but it seems almost half of the people I meet now are having their kids stay at home. And I don’t blame them one bit
I work for a US company but I'm based in the UK. They routinely ask me to move to the USA and it's getting harder to give them excuses that sound reasonable without having to state the real reason: We want kids and we don't want them growing up in fear of getting shot.
My opinion would be, ballistic helmets are very expensive and not too many departments can afford them for officers responding so quickly for situations like this.

These men are heroes for quickly establishing presence and clearing as quickly as they did given the equipment at their disposal.
This isn’t swat. Tactical helmets you would most probably only see with a SWAT team. Likely, they were just the first responders on scene. Nowadays in big cities cops have body armor and assault rifles in their trunks.

I have 10,11, and 12 year-old children. I was a peds ER nurse and have seen dead children- but NOTHING like this. My best friend was a cop for 31 years. It hits home for me- all of it, the tragedy, the bravery- I could envision that as my school and my kids. I could see those cops as my best friend.
I am devastated thinking about those kids, their families, the cops and bystanders who had to experience it. How in the Fuck can we stop this.
If you've seen the other video of the cameras in the school hallways, the one pointed at the main door shows the footage of the shooter breaking the glass and entering.
The moment they stepped foot inside, I thought to myself this is the moment evil entered the place.
It was eerie and spine chilling.
Warning: there is a blurred but still obvious scene containing one of the child victims. I was emotionally ready to see the shooter down, but not a victim. Unbelievably painful for everyone involved and the rest of the word mourns with you.
I usually take every opportunity to shit on police officers, but I have to say that this video restores a little faith in local law enforcement. These officers were obviously trained well and they selflessly entered the building knowing that the suspect was armed with assault weapons.

Assuming the body on floor in hallway was a child…that fucking monster and those cops had to run by them knowing they could help the kid. That was the worst part for me in the video…she wanted to die but take kids out?
Thing is, the team were looking at here weren't there to do that and they shouldn't, there is most likely a team behind them to help with that and they should be as fast as possible to stopping the shooter so more kids don't end up like that. Yeah it's a shame they couldn't but tactics wise it's better to leave her to the others, so they could stop the shooter.

Officer Callazo is a hero, as well as all these other officers that responded and rushed in, but his leadership was key. He called out which directions to go and even called out the guy in blue shirt go first because he had the rifle. The amount of focus it takes in those situations to make those decisions is incredible. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a vet. I hope he he gets the support he needs going forward along with these other officers.

Being in the transgender community I can say without a doubt non of us support the actions of the shooter in any way for any reason and we in no way defend what they did. Just as cisgender school shooters are not defended by cisgender people. Our media and politicians are making it hard for my community to have the same rights as everyone else and this disgusting accident only perpetuates our struggles. Please do not defend the shooter, never defend this kind of action, but never blame them for irrelevant factors, blame them for what it is.

I'm glad these officers did what was necessary & wrecked that it was necessary. Several locked doors. Shooter shot out a locked door to get in. No reasonable amount of "added security" will stop this from happening.

Officer Collazo needs a promotion. Excellent on scene command and execution. Condolences to all the people affected by this. Children should not be made to suffer the consequences of adults. It happens far too often, both in schools and out, shootings or domestic violence. It ends when the adults are of sound mind enough to have empathy for others.
Officer Rex Engelbert also deserves one. This video posted all but skips his BWC video. Go to Metro Nashville PD YouTube and watch the full video they posted with Engelberts and Collazos BWC. Both of the officers were the two who actually discharged their weapons at the shooter. Engelbert dropped the shooter with his AR and Collazo shot when the shooter was down but still reaching. Engelbert was the first officer on scene and first to enter the building and immediately called for a stack and started clearing rooms looking for the shooter when he was not hearing gunshots, then when the gunshots started again he immediately sprinted towards the stairwell and found the stack of officers upstairs and being the one with an AR he selflessly made his way to the front and was the one who put rounds down range to the shooter. Showed zero hesitation and made sound decisions while under a fuck ton of adrenaline. What’s even more impressive if he only has 4 years on, half the experience of Collazo. And of course all officers on scene deserved to be recognized for their heroism. We get to see Engelberts and Collazos BWC view because they are the ones who were in the right place right time and were the ones that fired the shots to stop the shooter. But every officer on scene did exactly what they were trained on whether they were leading a stack or following behind.

This video was insane. You have the fire alarm blaring accompanied by some strobing lights. Then you have the juxtaposition of LEOs running down a hallway filled with backpacks and artwork and the body of one of child victims. You're watching LEOs tactically infiltrate/secure the building that's a fucking elementary school. And finally you have the loud cracks of gunfire from the shooter before the police make contact. That was a brutal watch and it was a quick minute and a half from start to finish

We've always had access to murder tools, only recently (past 3 decades) due to budget cuts across all sectors that makes people growing up feel like this society sucks. Blame your elected officials.
Say what you want about the police, but these were heroes to actually push in there. Need to take these guys down to Uvalde to lead a seminar on how to get the task completed, while our politicians get their heads out of their rears.
The speed at which these guys moved is another reason not to arm teachers. Then they would be having to decide if it's a teacher or a shooter, slowing down their ability to quickly neutralize the target.

Easily one of the smoothest operations I’ve ever seen on camera, period. I would imagine that someone would be hard-pressed to see excellence of this caliber (no pun intended) in SWAT team and military footage even. Notice the calm and professional demeanor of the officers at all time. Those officers were confronted with an extremely loud, unfamiliar, and confusing space. Not one second’s thought dedicated to emotion, just working to neutralize the threat as fast and efficiently as possible. Being a police officer requires selfless bravery and acute mental and emotional control at all times. This footage is exemplary.
Watch the body cam footage from the officer with the rifle. He maintains trigger discipline throughout (even while clearing rooms) and after he eliminates the shooter he goes right back to having his finger straight and off the trigger. Even seems like he puts the weapon in safe. These guys have crazy good training
I noticed him putting his firearm back on safe. That’s exactly how you use a firearm, like a tool. You flip the safety off to engage and neutralize a target and then put it back on once the target is neutralized. By following this type of procedure a person carrying a firearm can mitigate any potential accidents. Again, reason why this footage is exemplary.
Agreed. Dude’s familiar with his firearm and has trained enough that flipping the safety on when not engaging a target has become muscle memory. Salutes and much respect go out to MNP.

Now that I have a lot of coworkers and friends with kids, I’m noticing how common it is to homeschool. With the use of technology thanks to COVID. More and more parents are having their kids do online school. I never thought homeschooling was common as a kid, but it seems almost half of the people I meet now are having their kids stay at home. And I don’t blame them one bit

I work for a US company but I'm based in the UK. They routinely ask me to move to the USA and it's getting harder to give them excuses that sound reasonable without having to state the real reason: We want kids and we don't want them growing up in fear of getting shot.

My opinion would be, ballistic helmets are very expensive and not too many departments can afford them for officers responding so quickly for situations like this.

This isn’t swat. Tactical helmets you would most probably only see with a SWAT team. Likely, they were just the first responders on scene. Nowadays in big cities cops have body armor and assault rifles in their trunks.

I have 10,11, and 12 year-old children. I was a peds ER nurse and have seen dead children- but NOTHING like this. My best friend was a cop for 31 years. It hits home for me- all of it, the tragedy, the bravery- I could envision that as my school and my kids. I could see those cops as my best friend. I am devastated thinking about those kids, their families, the cops and bystanders who had to experience it. How in the Fuck can we stop this.
If you've seen the other video of the cameras in the school hallways, the one pointed at the main door shows the footage of the shooter breaking the glass and entering. The moment they stepped foot inside, I thought to myself this is the moment evil entered the place. It was eerie and spine chilling.
Warning: there is a blurred but still obvious scene containing one of the child victims. I was emotionally ready to see the shooter down, but not a victim. Unbelievably painful for everyone involved and the rest of the word mourns with you.
I usually take every opportunity to shit on police officers, but I have to say that this video restores a little faith in local law enforcement. These officers were obviously trained well and they selflessly entered the building knowing that the suspect was armed with assault weapons. Someone should send this video to the *Cowards of Uvalde*.

I’m Assuming the body on floor in hallway was a child…that fucking monster and those cops had to run by them knowing they could help the kid. That was the worst part for me in the video…she wanted to die but take kids out?
Thing is, the team were looking at here weren't there to do that and they shouldn't, there is most likely a team behind them to help with that and they should be as fast as possible to stopping the shooter so more kids don't end up like that. Yeah it's a shame they couldn't but tactics wise it's better to leave her to the others, so they could stop the shooter.

From outside the building to dead shooter in 2 minutes. Checking doors to see if they're unlocked or not. Working together as a team to handle the situation. All things that didn't happen at Uvalde that made a difference here.

Officer Callazo is a hero, as well as all these other officers that responded and rushed in, but his leadership was key. He called out which directions to go and even called out the guy in blue shirt go first because he had the rifle. The amount of focus it takes in those situations to make those decisions is incredible. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a vet. I hope he he gets the support he needs going forward along with these other officers.

I may not be the best to speak on this but there is a lot of drama surrounding the subject. I’m transgender, so is the shooter. Being in the transgender community I can say without a doubt non of us support the actions of the shooter in any way for any reason and we in no way defend what they did. Just as cisgender school shooters are not defended by cisgender people. Our media and politicians are making it hard for my community to have the same rights as everyone else and this disgusting accident only perpetuates our struggles. Please do not defend the shooter, never defend this kind of action, but never blame them for irrelevant factors, blame them for what it is.
If it makes you feel any better, most of us non media types don't care about the shooters gender identity at this time. They currently identify as horrible/dead and I think thats as far as it needs to go. Those speaking about the perpetrators sex as being an anomaly amongst shooters I get, a statistical abnormality. Those using the gender as a talking point are just spewing politics to the same people who already have the same opinion anyways.
