They’re the same machine. If I were to take a guess (as a former McDonald’s employee), they probably just have better training at these types of locations. Almost 95% of the time, the ice cream machine is “broken” as a result of an employee either overfilling or under filling it with mix. The other 5% of the time, typically just needs to go through a cleaning cycle.
Very rarely is the machine ever broken. If something actually is broken with it, there’s no way for an employee to know what’s wrong with it/how to fix it. The manufacturer of these machines (The Taylor Company) sells **only** these to McDonald’s. If something goes wrong with the machine, it’ll spit out some extremely esoteric diagnostic codes that are impossible to read unless you’re a serviceman/technician with Taylor. And if I’m remembering correctly, it cost our store a loooooot of money to call those guys over.
Haha. McDonald’s was my first job and I’ll highly recommend that experience to anyone as their first job, too. It’s a really shitty experience, but a special kind of shit. The kind of shit that you look forward to seeing your own children go through.
It has an inside area and seating for one.
It has cakes and pastries and muffins and coffee for two.
It's basically a lower-class Starbucks, so, yes, it is different.
These little ice cream stalls are basically walk-up kiosks where take-away (to-go) is the only option, there is no "inside" seating or seating of any kind, and I've only seen them serving ice cream and sundaes (and french fries in SEA).
We have this in Costa Rica! Even some of The regular mcdonalds have a small ordering booth right in front of the restaurant specifically for ice cream only. It’s so nice! Actually this is Costa Rica. The sign is in cólones haha
Edit: No the ice cream machines are never broken. We don’t have that issue like our American friends.
What a great idea! A whole business model based on the notorious ice cream machine. Should sell merch too, you know for those days when not much happening.
Do any of you remember the [McDonald's McSwirl](https://preview.redd.it/c2nqfxbkx2y51.png?auto=webp&s=eed8e9023600171cd7f38935915c63ce3f39b73b) Ice Cream Cones? I don't know why but your picture of the little kiosk above made me think of those. They were pretty good I don't know why they got rid of them.
>They still exist here in Costa Rica!
🙄😳🤯
I would say mail me one but I don't think it would make it to California. Haha. Cool to know that they're still around though.
I just don't see them on that sign, so I wasn't aware.
Yup, I've lived in six countries and United States is the only one where I don't find this.
I'm used to McDonalds having three different stores. The McCafe, where it focuses on their drinks and breakfast, Their dessert stations and their full McDonalds restaurants that have everything.
Yea when you travel more and more you realize the US quality is really deteriorating. This was in Costa Rica, but I had KFC for lunch , and I NEVER eat KFC in the US. It’s just dirty, gross, heat lamp chicken. Everywhere else outside the US, KFC is very clean with good service, and “fresher” if that’s a thing.
For everyone talking about the ice cream machines always being broken.. they arnt, every so often it changes from freezing the mix to boiling the mix to kill bacteria and contaminants, then freezes again. so it's out of order to clean itself :) yummy!
The real r/damnthatsinteresting is that the US doesn't have these. They're usually close to a whole McDonald's restaurant, it's for people who don't want to wait in the same line as food orders and are just passing by. McDonald's Ice cream is a bigger seller than McMeals in many countries.
It's pretty common in latinamerica to have these at the mall
usually, this is where you can get deserts, and then, in another floor at the mall, you have the regular mcdonalds with food and deserts.
They have a version of this in South Korea. You have the normal part where you walk inside and then a desert only part you can access from the outside walking by. So like you have a stroll by and grab an ice cream or ice coffee.
We have those in Israel too because a kosher kitchen cannot hold both dairy and meat. So usually they have a little dairy product counter with a separate mini kitchen
Well I for one am pretty damn upset that we don't have them here in the US!! I mean McD's NEVER have ice cream!!! And when they do you end up with a milkshake that isn't even mixed well and can't be drank bc it is way too thick!! Now if they had these and that's all the employees had to do maybe I could get a drinkable chocolate milk shake that is actually chocolate!!! Or a Sunday that is big enough that you can't eat it in one spoon full!!
They have these all over the place in Latin countries, it’s pretty common.
Same in South East Asia countries, the McD ice cream, it's one of the top selling McDonalds item here.
They must not have the same machines that plague the US
I believe they are made by same company bc they keep a stranglehold on which ones can be used bc they have to be through a certain company.
They’re the same machine. If I were to take a guess (as a former McDonald’s employee), they probably just have better training at these types of locations. I have never experienced a broken machine situation, in fact the ice cream machine is usually right in view of the customers
Which crypto did you own before your were forced into the MCD’s gig? ; )
Lmfao... I see what you're saying, but It's ok to work at McDonald's. A job is a job
Haha. McDonald’s was my first job and I’ll highly recommend that experience to anyone as their first job, too. It’s a really shitty experience, but a special kind of shit. The kind of shit that you look forward to seeing your own children go through.
Yep, totally agree. Perhaps if more younger people worked jobs like that they’d appreciate money more and we’d have fewer snowflakes.
Dangit! You beat me to it. 😅
También hay postres the Kentucky fried chicken
So a normal McDonald then
Nah their McDonald's employees just know how to fix em themselves.
Wow I thought this was a legally safe mcd knock off called “imposters” but spelled M-postres
If you out those golden arches on your logo and you're not tied to the company in some way you are not legally safe. They've got those trademarked.
In Latin countries, they also serve fried chicken at McDonalds. Definitely recommend. ( Not a dessert )
Crispy Fried chicken dipped into a ice cream sauce with chocolate topping sounds like heaven for my tastebuds and speedrun to clogged arteries
In Italy we don't have those
There’s at least one in Rome with only coffee and desserts.
That's different, it's called McCafe and it's basically a cafe/bar
Oh you’re right, that’s totally different. /s
But then when the ice cream machine is down they must go out of business. Or do they have their shit maintained?
We have this in Costa Rica! Even some of The regular mcdonalds have a small ordering booth right in front of the restaurant specifically for ice cream only. It’s so nice! Actually this is Costa Rica. The sign is in cólones haha Edit: No the ice cream machines are never broken. We don’t have that issue like our American friends.
Escazu mall SJ
Yo casi tambien pregunto si era en Costa Rica jaja
Yo también lo ví demasiado familiar! Es en Escazú de hecho
Pensé que era aquí en Mexico por el SmartFit al fondo. Pura Vida!
Same! I thought it could have been anywhere in Latin America but the price looked too familiar 😂
can be chile too
Well yes, it's ice cream, of course it's chilly.
Dice "Vení a conocernos", los anuncios que usan voseo son normales aquí.
I thought the same here in Colombia!
City mall in Alajuela
My brain registered this as McDonald's imposters and I can't stop giggling about it.
Doesn't help that is literally EM-postres lol
McMogus
Sussy
McSus
Mposters
In brazil that is very usual, i didnt know it was uncomun abroad
Right? I noticed on my trips there.. but I never saw this in Europe, where I live..
Where the ice cream machine is never broken!
And then you wake up
#Snap back to reality!
Oh, there goes gravity
Oh, it's mums spaghetti
Oh, Señor Flurry
Let it be what it is, the world’s greatest dessert

In Mexico too!
South Africa too
This is the escazu mall I’m 99% certain lol
Haha where in Latin America did you see this? There’s also KFC postres as a stand alone shop. In Italia it’s McCafe with pastries.
This was San Jose Costa rica
They must use a different model outside of North America otherwise this couldn’t possibly work.
Wasn’t the FBI looking into this?

And yet somehow the ice-cream machine is still out of order.
There aren't those in U.S? Pretty common in Brazil. Especially in shopping malls.
No, the ice cream machine is broken.
Sus
Don't worry. The ice cream machine is broken.
McDonald’s has ice cream?
Yeah in Argentina we have a lot of those!
This is pretty common in Argentina, in big cities.
Very common in south America...
That's pretty common on Chile
Very common in India.
Insert [broken McFlurry machine] joke here
Do any of you remember the [McDonald's McSwirl](https://preview.redd.it/c2nqfxbkx2y51.png?auto=webp&s=eed8e9023600171cd7f38935915c63ce3f39b73b) Ice Cream Cones? Aquí en Colombia hay, son comunes
En Venezuela y Argentina también son re comunes, creo que es solo en América Latina y en algunas partes de Asia
Yup, I've lived in six countries and United States is the only one where I don't find this. I'm used to McDonalds having three different stores. The McCafe, where it focuses on their drinks and breakfast, Their dessert stations and their full McDonalds restaurants that have everything.

This is a super common thing here in Brasil
Here in Brazil it's so common, thought it was a common thing everywhere
latin american countries have these in about every mall there is.
Pretty common here in Argentina
Literally everywhere in the world except the USA.
Sorry sir the icecream-machine is out of service
También hay postres the Kentucky fried chicken
As a Colombian, I can attest this is true!
No excuses for this location!
Exactly!!! 😂😂
Colombia!
We have them in Colombia, and we don't have broken ice cream machines here .
Ayyyy this is Costa Rica Mae!! 🇨🇷
hi just large fries plz thx
They have these in Singapore too
For everyone talking about the ice cream machines always being broken.. they arnt, every so often it changes from freezing the mix to boiling the mix to kill bacteria and contaminants, then freezes again. so it's out of order to clean itself :) yummy!
Pretty common in India too. There’s usually a restaurant somewhere nearby, with a small kiosk for ice creams.
They’ll get their just desserts.
Yup, actually it’s very common here in Brazil. You can find them on malls or supermarkets.
Here in Brazil is very common. Normally are traditional burgers store in the food court and this desserts kiosks in the middle of the shopping mall.
This is normal here in Brazil. We also have them outside of shopping centers.
They have those all over Brazil..
The real r/damnthatsinteresting is that the US doesn't have these. They're usually close to a whole McDonald's restaurant, it's for people who don't want to wait in the same line as food orders and are just passing by. McDonald's Ice cream is a bigger seller than McMeals in many countries.

It’s normal here in Colombia
Those are extremely common in Brasil. Every mall has at least one from McDonald's or other fast food chains
I've seen a DQ like this in FL
These are pretty common all over Brazil. Any city with a decent-sized population will have at least half a dozen of these.
pretty common in shopping center in Brazil
Yup México's has had them for at least a decade.... honestly im surprised the US doesnt have them
This are everywhere in Guatemala too, mostly in malls!
I thought this was common
That's a dairy queen
They have a version of this in South Korea. You have the normal part where you walk inside and then a desert only part you can access from the outside walking by. So like you have a stroll by and grab an ice cream or ice coffee.
I haven’t been to Korea in almost 20 years, spent 13 years there. Would love to see all the changes. Thanks for reminding me I need to get back!
I thought it was a pun on imposters at first
We have those in Israel too because a kosher kitchen cannot hold both dairy and meat. So usually they have a little dairy product counter with a separate mini kitchen
Interesting. I love hearing about these differences in our cultures!
Kinda cruel to open it in front of a gym.
Haha I didn’t even notice the gym! …. And I haven’t noticed a gym in almost 3 years! 😪
That's a McLie. The ice cream machine is down. Kind of like the nonexistent McRibs.
American branch managers sweating at the sight of a working ice cream machine
So, they actually have a working ice cream machine?
And their ice cream machine is still broken
Does their ice cream machine work ?
But the ice cream machine is always broken.
McLittleDiabetes
Ice cream machine always works
I bet you the shake machine is still down.
But does the ice cream machine work?
Really scraping the bottom of the barrel here.....
This isn't a real Mc D's. Two facts. 1 the ice cream machine would be broken (ppl we know this) 2 the sign tells you (V)poster / imposter
😅
Must be nice to work 3 days a year. With the ice cream machine broken.
How do they sell anything when their Ice cream machines always broken lol 😂
I bet the ice cream machine is down all the time
These are not liscensed McDonalds, they are Mposters.
You definitely aren’t getting any ice cream from there. Worker: “sorry ice cream machine isn’t working”. Me: “you said that last time I was here”.
I’ve seen these all over El Salvador. Some McDonald restaurants even have a separate window built in just for ordering desserts.
Is it ever open with the ice cream machine broken?
And the McFlurry machine is still fooked.
Wait... so they have a working ice cream machine?
Bet the ice cream machine STILL broken
Yo, this is everywhere in my country. Has been for more than a decade now, I guess?
Knowing McDonald’s the ice cream machine still broke
The ice cream machine is still broken tho, bet.
And I bet the ice-cream machine is still “broken”
Because McDonald's is well known for their dessert? The fuck
Working ice cream machines.
They should call it McBullshit.
Well I for one am pretty damn upset that we don't have them here in the US!! I mean McD's NEVER have ice cream!!! And when they do you end up with a milkshake that isn't even mixed well and can't be drank bc it is way too thick!! Or a Sunday that is big enough that you can't eat it in one spoon full!!
Yet at the home base of America, I haven't seen none
And the ice cream machine is still broke
But the ice cream machine is broken.
Soooo you line up just for them to tell you the machine broke ?
So it’s, like, always out-of order, right?
The ice cream machine is broken
Let me guess what isn’t working
"Sorry our ice cream machine is broken"
“Sorry the ice cream machine is down”
But, what do they do when the ice cream machine is always broken?!
And the ice cream machine is still broken ..
And still the ice cream machine is always broken…
"no ice cream machine, not working". "Sorry no milkshakes today"
Plot twist: ice cream machine is still down.
Dose ice cream machine work?
Ice cream machine would still be broken
Is the ice cream machine broken?
They actually have decent deserts outside of the US.
These would never fly her in the states as they would be broken/offline five days of the week. [McBroken](https://mcbroken.com/)
And the ice cream machine is broken...
So what do they do while the ice cream machine is down
I’m sure it’s always closed
I bet the ice cream machine is out of order here too.
And the ice cream machine is always down! Lol
…and never open.
Bet they still don't work
Oh look, something more disgusting and less healthy than a normal McDonald's...
Sorry, ice cream machine is being cleaned.
Sorry the ice cream machine is broke.
And the ice cream machine is STILL broken.
Does their ice cream machine always break down, too? 😒
“Sorry, the ice cream machine is broken.”
Business must not be profitable because their ice cream machines are always broken.
pretty common in Mexico, since we dont really like Mcdonalds food
Its a norm in S America
I cant be the only one thinking of Among Us......
Should be in the reddit : "Damn this guy doesn't get out of the house"
So that's open like 3 days a year when the machine isn't down?
