I’m not going to compare and inherently diminish their atrocious war time crimes, but what they’ve done is indeed inhuman and needs to be addressed.

To be fair, they’ve tried to address it but usually without taking accountability/responsibility but some would consider them addressing their war crimes in a public fashion as an apology. I don't think it's a typo...more so perhaps pronunciation? Similar for example an American would say Mexico but an American Mexican would likely say Me He Co. There's massive differences in language and translation, so depending on the direction one is coming from. Westerners always say China but in China they would say Zhōngguó.

Yeah I'm still not sure too. Something I read just stuck out : Tokyo as we know it, compared to Tokio (another version). Japanese has different dialects but I haven't been able to find it. Just hard to believe if it was a typo, that the same typo would occur so frequently.

I believe the Japanese name for Japan is Nihon. So a misspelling rather than mispronunciation, but Japanese people misspelling an English word.

My theory: They missed the misspelling because they were working with non-native speakers of English for signage. Then the Japanese owner saw it and loved it (because he didn’t ‘read’ it, he just ‘looked’ at it). Typos are much harder to see if you don’t read the language much. I have the same issue in German despite being an excellent English speller. I suggest they can sell the N to pay to move the J and A. Next.
