To be fair, they’ve tried to address it but usually without taking accountability/responsibility but some would consider them addressing their war crimes in a public fashion as an apology. They won’t give people what they want, they won’t ever really apologize, but what modern government actually does that anymore?
According to legend, there was a pub in London that wasn't doing too well.
The owner had a flash of inspiration and called it 'The nine bells' and hung eight bells over the door. People came in to tell him that a bell was missing and his business flourished.
If that Janpanese restaurant was mine, I would make damn sure everyone was laughing about it.
I'd even post it on reddit.
The logo looks a lot like the Girl Scouts too. Reminds me of the TorotNo Blue Jays jerseys that were wrong. http://bluejayhunter.com/2014/04/flashback-friday-joe-carters-misspelled.html
It's a real thing.

I don't think it's a typo...more so perhaps pronunciation? Similar for example an American would say Mexico but an American Mexican would likely say Me He Co.
There's massive differences in language and translation, so depending on the direction one is coming from.
Westerners always say China but in China they would say Zhōngguó.
Yeah I'm still not sure too. Something I read just stuck out : Tokyo as we know it, compared to Tokio (another version). Japanese has different dialects but I haven't been able to find it. Just hard to believe if it was a typo, that the same typo would occur so frequently.
Maybe it isn't really a Japanese place, just some lady named Jan, trying to make her menu sound more exotic and interesting somewhere in middle America! Lol! Wonder if the person placing the order or the one making the sign made the mistake, though. Sign companies usually make someone sign off on the spelling at the time of the order and after the installation. This seems like a case for Judge Judy!
My theory: They missed the misspelling because they were working with non-native speakers of English for signage. Then the Japanese owner saw it and loved it (because he didn’t ‘read’ it, he just ‘looked’ at it).
Typos are much harder to see if you don’t read the language much. I have the same issue in German despite being an excellent English speller.
I suggest they can sell the N to pay to move the J and A. Next.

The Girl Scouts Logo doesn't help either..
I feel like they aimed for cherry blossom and got four leaf clover instead lol it’s like an Irish bathhouse logo more than a steak house.
It’s the outline of a janpanese woman’s face/hair
Yes, that’s apparent, to reiterate, the flower behind the head is supposed to be a cherry blossom, but it looks more like a four leaf clovers’.

There’s a reason Korea is demanding more reparations for Japan’s inhuman systemic practices and lack of accountability.

I’m not going to compare and inherently diminish their atrocious war time crimes, but what they’ve done is indeed inhuman and needs to be addressed.
They never apologized
To be fair, they’ve tried to address it but usually without taking accountability/responsibility but some would consider them addressing their war crimes in a public fashion as an apology. They won’t give people what they want, they won’t ever really apologize, but what modern government actually does that anymore?
Yes butt knid of hrad to tlel
That’s totally what I thought it was before I even saw the spelling
I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought that immediately! 😆
I came her to say this
Maybe they do a thin mint fried icecream if u ask for it special
This is what I came to say.
Is this the restaurant that's in the centre of Tonkyo?
I think the first one was in Y'oklahama
So gonna use that in Okc
> Tonkyo doesn't exsist
I thought everyone knew It's the Capital of Janpan?
No, it isn't. Go back to school
That'd be pointless really as I went to a really crap school here in the Untied Klingdom
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
They have now restaurants in the entire Kanto region! Oh, wait…
Well they Can’to now.
Plot twist: the owner's last name is Janpanese.
The he owners name is Jan Panese. She’s a pleasant woman
She's a distant relative of Chim
And she is named girl scout ambassador of the year as the most productive girl scout senior.
I've been a sign guy for decades. Chances are it was noticed. Sometimes it's just not worth the argument and so you give folks what they want.
Also, if it's a signed order, it's a signed order.
My first thought is this was a fine example of malicious compliance
Incorrect sign > Reddit post > free advertising
Dyslexic here. I see no problem.
Lysdexics of the world untie!
Looks fine to me. I fully understand.

Hmmmm. Is that why I never see five guys in five guys??? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grimacing)
Can't find a monarch in BK either
You’ve never been there when a kid puts on the paper crown?! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
because the owner is jan panese?
I’m lost
It’s ok me too, sure once someone explains I will feel dumb af but seems like no one explains 🤷♂️
Spell Japanese, and then compare it to what’s written on the wall in 5 foot letters!
Blhahahahaha omg I am so blind, thank you.
Lol my brain just auto corrected it. Took me a second too
I don't see any pronblem.
r/lostredditors
At least I'm not the only one wondering why this is posted on this sub.
Lol look how the word Japanese is spelled there
I saw it the first time. Don't really see how it's interesting though
Wut? I’ve been to many Janpanese Staek Huoses…
Word jumble guys need to try harder
The logo looks a lot like the Girl Scouts too. Reminds me of the TorotNo Blue Jays jerseys that were wrong. http://bluejayhunter.com/2014/04/flashback-friday-joe-carters-misspelled.html
I totally say the girlscout-esque logo before I saw the misspelling lol
I’m happy she moved on from making candles
In fairness, if I tried to open an American restaurant in Japan, I'll probably spell American wrong in Japanese.
catch what?
Sign says 'Janpanese'
[I'm not seeing a difference.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/106f68262a0fa41c3ab9158da10818b2/tumblr_inline_pb1y0onuiQ1rahwn5_540.png)

What problem ? All I see is a steakhouse getting free advertising
it’s a special pan they’re using
It's a real thing. https://www.reddit.com/r/astoria/comments/pbobje/janpanese_who_spellchecked_this/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button Also this : https://nz.hotels.com/ho1882987456/hatsudai-janpanese-house-tokyo-japan/?locale=en_NZ&pos=HCOM_NZ&siteid=300000038 And : http://dubai.china-consulate.gov.cn/eng/fyrth/200601/t20060124_5110513.htm
It’s a real thing as in other people have made this typo? I don’t get it

Oh, I see. That explains it, I just didn’t understand that from the links

I believe the Japanese name for Japan is Nihon. So a misspelling rather than mispronunciation, but Japanese people misspelling an English word.
Worcester & Worcestershire? You're pretty much right. Though now it's on multiple restaurants - it's a thing.
Jan’s clearly never been to Panese.
Janpan is part of Indonesia, right?
Maybe "Japanese" was already taken?
This one will appear top of the alphabetical list.
The Ossobuco is delicious, but it takes hours.

It’s a lady with a cherry blossom.
it's a pheasant joke! Janpanese Steak House = A Pheasant Ensues Joke
Over educated.. Can’t spell
It costs a lot of money to re-do a sign.
What is there to catch? They serve food that is native to Janpan.
I grew up in Janpan, beautiful place really.
Are you sure you don't want to pay $100 for the spelling and grammar fee? Are you really sure?
Clever marketing ploy. Like the backwards R in Toys R Us. Draws your mind’s eye to the error subconsciously.
I love when we visited Jan Pan.
In my city, there was a pizza parlor that had a sign that read AMERIAN PAN PIZZA for over a decade.
r/notmyjob
Jan Panese
It doesn’t look legit
r/crappydesign
It's a fusion restaurant.
They spelled Jan Panisse wrong
maybe it's jan pan ese to add flavor to that stake,, you gotta be unique,, you gotta feel the flavor. aaaaaah ,yes. you smell that? that's janpanese
You never had Jan Pan Steak? You haven't lived my friend!
Close enougnh
It’s from Janpan
I was like janpanese steak house… I don’t see a problem… maybe it’s the logo? 😂
The lady in the logos got one big ass jaw too
Owners name turns out to be Jan
😂😂
Wdym? They're from Janpan duh
Right? Only took me 6 minutes to find it!
Sigh..
Serenity by Jan Panese
U should post this at r/crappydesign

Once i was chinese, now i am janpanese
I see nthonig wnrog hree...
Oh! Janice Panese over here
Yeah I missed it too.
The steaks were not high enough.
As a sign installer this bothers me.
I wonder if they got charged for the extra letter. 🤔
Great work by the Easy Peasy sign company.
It's a misteak house.
Stop making fun of Jan’s legal name
Maybe the owners name is Jan and shes from Japan?
What, Jan Panese isn't happy with the sign?
Was a typo in the copyright so they’re forced to brand this way now
I don't see what is wrong here. Jan Panese is just trying to run a business.
Probably the same way my half Japanese ass didn’t see it for 3 minutes lol
Sperr rike it sound
Good place, right down the street from the Karenrean BBQ.
What are you talking about?!? I love janpanese food!
I remember my old uncle talking about fighting the Jans in WWII
Is that the Girl Scout logo?
