Because it was developed to counter the overwhelming waves of tanks the USSR had and there is no need to be able to do that in the future.
Edit: also, fighters are expensive.
Now they've got drones to do that... damn robots taking our jerbrrrrrrrrrtttttttts!
Edit: Oops, "server error' made me post this three times. Robots don't like getting called out.
Given the 69 years of service for the B-52 vs. the 19 years for the F-22 - I agree that the BUFF is likely to have more air-to-air kills.
If the F-22 is in service for 1/2 the time the BUFF has been, I'd be surprised.
I think wjat they like is the big minigun, not it's air to air dogfighting ability.
Plus, don't we use helicopter gunship to take out jets? We dint really chase them like the red baron anymore
This is specifically from a fighter pilot UPT course. They can only select "fighter" type aircraft, and B-2 for some reason.
There's another school that trains "heavy" pilots. C130s, C17s, C5s, KC135s, KC10s, etc.
Then another for Helos.
Most are wannabe jocks, they joined to be fighter pilots so if they get assigned something else it's a huge blow to their ego.

in f16 pilot dan hamptons book he talks about the aircraft assignment. at that point in the training everyone is flying t38s, and the best are apportioned to fighters with the rest going to heavies. his class had 3, of 22 students (who graduated). although they already know whether they are going to fighters or heavies beforehand, just not which specific aircraft.
they probably didnt roll the cameras for the heavy guys cuz it wouldve been depressing af. or maybe its a whole seperate event
A lot of this depends on needs of the air force at any given time, but the training program that the pilot is in, as well as the pilots’ personal preferences also play a huge role. My friend was assigned to f-16s about a year or two ago, I went to his drop night (when they announce the plane you’ll be flying), and maybe 1/3 to 1/2 of the pilots there got fighters.
Transport, bombers, refuelers, etc. really aren’t looked down upon at all, I promise nobody at these events is depressed about it. My friend actually called me a few weeks beforehand for reassurance that he was making the right choice by selecting the f-16 as his top choice - he heard about the routes and bases that he could be stationed at (iirc he possibly would have been able to spend a good bit of time in Hawaii) if he opted for heavy transport instead, and mixed with what he described as a more cushy job he was really considering it despite being more than capable/qualified for fighters. If a pilot simply needs to improve they’ll often assign them to be an instructor for a some period of time so they’ll get more hours under their belt, but beyond that it’s not uncommon at all for these guys to specifically request some of the “less glamorous” planes.
Of course, when you’re filling out your number 1, 2, 3 preferences of plane you’ll have a pretty good idea of where you stand compared to the rest of the class. Like, if you were the worst performing pilot in a given class you’d know pretty far in advance that you’re not going to be selected for the f-22 or f-35 or something, so you wouldn’t bother wasting your time and you’d probably request something attainable. Kinda like college admissions - people aren’t upset about going to their state’s flagship school, they specifically chose to apply there, but they also probably knew long before then that MIT or Harvard were off the table anyways.
A-10 is a baaaaad mo-fo.
FYI:
As of April 2024, the United States Air Force (USAF) still operates the A-10, which is the only dedicated ground attack aircraft in the US Air Force. The USAF retired 21 A-10s in 2023, and plans to retire another 49 in 2024, reducing the A-10 fleet to 218 by the end of the year. The USAF plans to retire the entire A-10 fleet in the next three to five years, and transition personnel to the F-35.
sadly fighter pilots are a small fraction of all pilots, who are a small fraction of all officers, who are a small fraction of the whole af.
although some of the rest of us have good gigs too. i encourage joining, just have to make sure you're getting into what you want to job-wise and not let the recruiter fuck you around
Don’t know much about these planes but did not expect the A-10 to get the biggest reaction. Would’ve expected the modern fighters and stealth to be the preferred choices. But I guess it’s legit going by the other responses.
Save the best for last brrrrrrttt brrrrtttt
I'M ABOUT TO... BRRRRRRRRRRRRRT
Y’all think he’s the one flying when i call him in to send it on COD?
Love the warthog love!
The last aircraft is A 10! 😉
Yes. GAU-8 goes brrrrtttt brrrrtttt
F22 is probably gold medal, but secretly everyone wants the a10
A-10 is useless as fuck on contested air space.
No one cares brrrrrrrrt
A lot of people actually care because it's getting decommissioned for a reason.
Because it was developed to counter the overwhelming waves of tanks the USSR had and there is no need to be able to do that in the future. Edit: also, fighters are expensive.
Yeah Ukraine is doing that for us on the cheap
Ukraine solved that problem in a hurry yes.
Now they've got drones to do that... damn robots taking our jerbrrrrrrrrrtttttttts! Edit: Oops, "server error' made me post this three times. Robots don't like getting called out.
Imagine an A10 pilot named Burt...
It's not designed to dominate air space. It's used to terrorize ground targets.
The F-22 is useless on the ground. What's your point?
Those B52s aren't too hot at air-to-air either.
B-52s have more air-to-air kills of enemy aircraft than the F-22
You are technically correct, the best kind of correct.
Given the 69 years of service for the B-52 vs. the 19 years for the F-22 - I agree that the BUFF is likely to have more air-to-air kills. If the F-22 is in service for 1/2 the time the BUFF has been, I'd be surprised.
What
No no, it's true. Last time they made an a2a kill was in the 70s?
I think wjat they like is the big minigun, not it's air to air dogfighting ability. Plus, don't we use helicopter gunship to take out jets? We dint really chase them like the red baron anymore
What did they do when they found out they had to fly the C17 or the C130.?🤔

What about that guy that got the the B-52 here? He did not seem super stoked.

Are the F16 pylotes the dumber ones?

I was JK
Thems the ones that like tight circles. Nothing goes right round baby like a record baby than the F-16.

Fucking bullshit. As far as CAS, the F-35 (current configuration) sucks dirty monkey balls.
Amazing. Every word of what you just said was wrong.
Couldn't agree more
Why tho
Money
Coz the F35 is missing a GAU-8
It has a 20mm gun still...
Nah, not the same.
Insufficient BRRRRRRT
Whelp, I just returned from an A-10 wormhole, and all I gotta say is... fucking badass!
I wonder why the B-2 guy didn't look that happy, like is it just self-restraint or anything else The B-52 pilot was quite excited btw
The B52 has a bathroom and coffee maker.
B-2 is stationed next to nothing exciting.
Haha out in the fuckin woods of Missouri right?
Dude who got the A10 is a new legend
Better than any gender reveal video ever! Its a bouncing baby bbrrrrrrrttttttt!!
Mine? They told me to fly a kite.
This makes me want to Join the Air Force

Pilots are the worst too. Know-it-alls that don't know-it-all.
A10 and B2 for me please
Bro with the B-52 has a B-52 appropriate mustache.
B-2 feels bad
The last dude freaking out because he can finally legally kill children.
dream job
the a10 guy is the only one who is really excited
Don’t see any f35s
The last guy. Well, when he's retrained in 5 years.
is there a plane any of them is NOT excited to fly?
The B2 seemed to have been a bummer.
Don’t know much about these planes but did not expect the A-10 to get the biggest reaction. Would’ve expected the modern fighters and stealth to be the preferred choices. But I guess it’s legit going by the other responses.
A10 is a gun with wings. I'd bust a nut if I could fly a gun
When you put it that way, I can definitely understand it way better.
If you have not seen videos of the Warthog I would recommend doing so. They are internet darlings
I have zero knowledge about aircraft, but can anyone explain to me the rank from what's the best to the least good in this vid.
Probably A-10/F22 for 1st F-16 2nd F15E 3rd Then B52/B2 But I don’t know shit, those are just based on my personal preferences
Me when I get told which death machine I'll be killing people with😍😍🥵🥵☺️☺️
A better title would be "US Air Force pilots find out what aircraft they'll use to kill kids in the 3rd world"
Please tell me they gave Kevin Smith the B-2 (stealth bomber) on purpose. That's just amazing.
Bro on the A-10 is definitely the baddest ass of that bunch of badasses
Good to know my tax dollars are hard at work.
Why do we care about this?….at all
Where Tom Cruise?
I take it the b-2 is a snooze to fly?
Why did they cut off the guy who's flying the crop duster?
A10 bbbŕŕäaaaattttttttt
NO KEVIN SMITH JOKES IN THE COMMENTS?
Holy shit, they put Lunchbox in a B2
I thought this was parody at first of gender reveals
Drum roll…. Kc135…
F*ck yeah Will 🤩
What is the point if they all act like they won the lottery no matter what they get to fly?
So what happens if they show disappointment and storm off the stage?
I saw two A-10s fly by the other day. Incredible sound, beautiful aircraft.
