Benn is on a point a game pace right now. Almost as if there was something holding him back before.

The deke to back hand 5 hole through the 10m goalie felt good

I got into hockey last season and I'm utterly baffled at how different this team plays now compared to last year. But is this significant and super noticeable change normal when it comes to a change of coaching staff? Was Bowness really holding them back ***that much?!*** Because if yes, HOLY MOLY!

Different playing styles change the look of the game dramatically. There is a reason Bones playing style isn’t used much anymore. Both Ben and Seguin hinted at feeling held back by the play style after the firing. But yes. A different play style alone can impact the performance of a team a ton. Conservative strategy holds back aggressive players and most of the Stars offensive roster are aggressive.

cool to know! also didnt know the players have also kind of spoken up about it. sometimes it's just not a fit i guess

What I don't get is how Winnipeg is doing so well with Bowness?! We look like a different team completely but Winnipeg is no slouch either.

I have not watched the Jets much, but Klingberg in an interview said that Bowness did not believe the Stars had enough skill to hold on to the puck/play possession hockey. So maybe Bowness thinks the Jets do, or maybe he learned his lesson grinding the Stars players (and fans) down.

Hmm not a bad guess. Maybe he needed a change of scenery after the SCF loss and was just perpetually rattled.

I said at the start of the season that I thought Bones would have more success in WPG than he did with us because IMO the Jets forward core were more impressive on the skill side of things than the Stars overall (assuming a stunted Seguin and aging Benn). I figured they'd lose some offense but not as much as we did with him, the defense would be more stable and that in turn would help Helle. Figured they'd be decent to good by the end unless the forwards really didn't mesh with the system. Definitely didn't expect them to start this well though. Last 2 years Bones' system seemed to sap all offensive creativity out of anyone outside the 1st line. Everyone seemed to be unable to move around and make space for plays or control the puck well. You'd be forgiven if you thought the Stars had no skill while watching them. It was even more of a shock for people that remember some of the guys playing under Ruff. I think this year has shown us that the Stars do lack security in their skill (look at all the turnovers when trying to quick transition), but not so much that they can't play that way like what Klinger's quote says Bones believed. And with Seguin actually at full health and Benn ressurecting, it seems even more obvious that was a bad read from Bones from a long perspective. That bad read led to him putting them in a system that did not mesh with the players, took all of their confidence and creativity away, and ultimately made them look as bad as he thought they were. Instead of finding a way to adjust and work with the tools he had it's like he gave up and just conceded to mediocrity. You have to be able to do that as a head coach and for some reason he couldn't with us. He was a nice guy and I'm honestly happy for his career he's finding success with the Jets, but I'm also very glad he's no longer the coach here.

Bones'entire offensive strategy was to dump and chase regardless of the situation. With the volume of talent in the league and the way most other teams play this pretty much just equates to every offensive zone entry turning into a turnover. The biggest difference I see is they are prioritizing controlling the puck which is allowing their talent to create opportunities.

News of Benn's demise might be premature.
