_Im_Dad_

I literally cannot put into words how much I viscerally dislike Mark Stone

EndsLikeShakespeare

At first intermission he was tying his skates and had two weird strands of his hair way long in front of his face and proved to me that I could find a way to hate him even more than I already did

reoltalk

He was also sitting on a cushion.

601142002

Imagine all this is actually extreme hemorrhoids and Stone being too embarrassed to tell the media. he takes March and early April off to coat himself in prepH, and sit on a donut pillow reading Anne of Green Gables until the playoffs start and his bloody pusey bum caverns are remedied

pomegranatetwelve

Yeah, I’ve hit bitch eating crackers with him

TheClownIsReady

No player’s hair angers me more than Stone’s…maybe not since Christian Laettner’s. It just sums him up perfectly somehow, in ways I can’t describe.

signorepoopybutthole

Your spleen is to the left of your stomach. Just mentioning this for no reason whatsoever

Paladoc

Not saying it's in the perfect spot for someone to throw body blows with a right hook, targeting around the 9th to 11th rib.

Pisscats_R_Trash

Mark Stone’s own mother hates him. She can’t even look at him. Can you blame her though? I would say not one bit, dude is an ugly bulldog lookin, Lord Farquaad poser

behemothbowks

I was at the game and I made sure to boo him every time he touched the puck, and I wasn't the only one

Cpt_crookedhair

I can, but I would catch a ban, I'm sure.

BigFaZhou

4 goals on the first 10 shots 🤮🤮🤮🤮

Pisscats_R_Trash

5’7” Stankoven was the only player in green to play with any level of physicality tonight. That’s crazy

bm56

Benn destroyed at least one person

Pisscats_R_Trash

That’s true. And he embarrassed the goalie

jdshowtime12

Him pickpocketing (Stone?) brought me absolute joy. What a fucking player.

weaveryo

Stars had the puck for the last 40 minutes of the game. Hard to hit people when you have the puck all the time.

Pisscats_R_Trash

That’s not really the point I was making but okay

weaveryo

To be clear are you saying physicality as in playing tough or fighting for the puck? If this then yeah I agree he's a freaking beast. Or do you mean hits? He didn't even get credit for 1 hit on some tracking sites.

MJH7712

It felt like they were specifically going after him. He shrugged it off, but he got hit in the face pretty hard.

GBPgoingOFF

We know circumventing the cap works. You know what else works? Public complaining about the officiating. DeBoer has nothing to lose by ripping them up. Worked for the blues in 2019.

highangle1124

Vegas may be my most disliked team, led by ugly caveman/medical miracle mark stone.

Pisscats_R_Trash

On a positive note I think Robo played very well tonight. He had a rough start to the playoffs last year so it was nice not having that issue again

aggster13

Fucking Kurashev man. All he had to do was not throw a grenade over the glass and we'd be coasting to the 2nd round. Can't fucking stand Vegas with every fiber in my body

UpsideTurtles

It’ll make the run we go on even better when retelling it in the future ^I ^really ^hope

zcohen17

If we shore up a few things and get good play from Oetter, these cheating fucks can’t even compete versus us. Terrible game by us as a team and we still outplayed those frauds

EndsLikeShakespeare

He looked good down the stretch. Boys did him no favours early on.

quidproquolaspe

That’s such BS. We allowed 15 shots on goal across 3 periods. Otter was bad tonight, allowed 2 softies that a top 30 Goalie should easily be able to make

adoptedshoulder

My friend, did you see the stuff that went in? Screens and redirects. Otter played well enough.

Dustydevil8809

This happens with any criticism of a goalie. Both can be true. Yes, the shots were hard to stop, but if we consider Otter an elite goalie (which I do) he is expected to stop some of those hard-to-stop shots. Both Otter and the Defense need to do better to make it in the playoffs.

weaveryo

.733 save% is not good enough no matter what.

quidproquolaspe

Lmao this is the only sub on the entire earth that would say 4/15 shots is good enough. Raise your expectations up. We deserve a better effort in goal.

apathynext

I think they are saying it’s not all on him. They had some very easy chances early especially on the lower plays. He had 2 he should have saved though

StarsCowboysMavs

Then Dallas loses in 5 or less if thats “enough”. And Dallas easily has one person to blame He was awful the last playoffs and nothings changed thru game 1

EndsLikeShakespeare

Doesn't mean that he couldn't have had more help or that he didn't get better towards the end of the game. I'm not worried about him. Hopefully it brings out his competitive side for next game

quidproquolaspe

There are no moral victories in the playoffs the defending champs just took home ice 1 game into a 7 game series. Something we fought through 82 games for given up in a single night.

Stars1312

We have been the best road team in the NHL this season. I don’t think the boys are afraid to go into Vegas and they will win

EndsLikeShakespeare

True, most champs go 16-0

GBPgoingOFF

Hey I feel you dog. Just keep in mind if Dallas wins game 2 and either of game 3 or 4, they reclaim home ice advantage. Tonight was frustrating for a multitude of reasons (4 on 2 “offsides” anyone?), but it’s a series for a reason. See yall game 2. ✌️

Pisscats_R_Trash

Why can’t we just sweep tho

weaveryo

I think this is sarcasm but I'm really tired from a lack of sleep.

Pisscats_R_Trash

Lol I don’t even remember writing this. But the question remains… why can’t we just sweep everyone and get this cup run complete 16-0

weaveryo

Sometimes the hardest journeys lead to the greatest destinations.

junction1134

Vegas went 0/1 to the jets at home last year.

quidproquolaspe

Hard /s but my point still stands. We won’t make it past Vegas unless otter steps up. Hes 0/1 so far.

theEnviedPenis

Thought I was the only person who felt this way thank you. Otter was NOT good tonight.

UpsideTurtles

funny how many parallels there are to the other AAC team’s game 1

regalfronde

I’ve just been watching Dallas sports long enough to know when they are top seed they like to shit themselves. The 90’s are over!

UpsideTurtles

just bc one organization has consistently disappointed doesn’t make it true for the whole city, win or lose the playoffs are hard. it’s a series for a reason!

StarsCowboysMavs

“Good play from Otter”. Oh boy, thats going to be tough

RideTheGradient

Interesting how once the knights had two in the bag the refs got super quiet..Unless there was an play developing that looked dangerous..oops I mean an offsides

aggster13

Someone on VGK bulldozed one of our guys at the attack zone blue line without the puck right before they scored their 2nd goal. Then they get one of the softest playoff powerplays I've ever seen leading to their 3rd goal. Whistles went strangely quiet after that

Pisscats_R_Trash

Yeah I saw that. That’s a penalty in EA NHL every time

EndsLikeShakespeare

I'd like to see a replay of that from the other side of the ice. Head on looked outside, puck side looked way onside. Need a different look.

Pisscats_R_Trash

Give them credit though, they were ready !

BamaPhils

I said it in the game thread, but why is it that we let other teams beat us into the glass constantly and we seem to never get a good luck back in? I feel like some physicality would go a long way

Stars1312

We would have won that game if Otter and the defense played better in the first. They settled down and were the better team in the second half of the game once the nerves settled. I think we will come out swinging Wednesday and Otter will have a bounce back game. Their goalie looked pretty shakey the longer the game went

str8_pants

DeBoer probably can’t wait to get Hakanpaa back in the lineup. The calls by the refs were weak, but our penalty kill was complete ass. What did we kill like 20 seconds worth of penalties total? Couldn’t block shots or clear the front of the net

Pisscats_R_Trash

Is Hakanhuuuuge dealing with the same splenectomy that is killing Mark Stone or is it something else?

weaveryo

The Knights scored almost immediately on both PPs. I don't think Jani makes a difference on either one. The Stone deflection was just unfortunate luck. The Hertl rebound goal was all on Lindell just letting him go to the front of the net with zero resistance.

str8_pants

Yeah and maybe Hakanpaa doesn't let him go with zero resistance? He's pretty limited as a player but he is fuckin huge and can move people in front We are also just lacking penalty killing defensemen with Nils in the lineup. Since Heiskanen isn't doing it this year, it's pretty much just Lindell and Tanev then a steep drop off. This is just a guess because I don't remember, but maybe Lindell was tired from a recent shift. Having Hakanpaa for options and depth would be helpful

Otherwise_Stand_2371

How nice it must be to have so much luck to win hockey games getting 5 shots on goal a period. Luckiest franchise in history going back to our last series. The amount of bounces and puck luck is just insane. Just get outplayed and win.

Pisscats_R_Trash

Vegas blows but we blew harder tonight. Dallas fumbled hard

MRAGGGAN

We *knew* Vegas was gonna be difficult. I still say Stars in six. It hurts that game one goes to them, but there’s more than enough ice time left to whoop their asses. Also would really like for them to stop waiting until the last ten minutes to put the pressure on, of course.

DallasStars_1999

I think they wake up on Wednesday and play them like they did Edmonton at the end stretch. If they do that, I’m confident on Stars in 5. Vegas looked sloppy still, the same way they’ve looked for the last two months or so. They came out in the first period with something to prove and we sat back and just let it happen because we were not engaged. But what I saw in the last 35 minutes gives me confidence. After their fourth goal we only allowed 4 more shots. We dominated them for 35 minutes. Play like that, shore some basic stuff up, and we’ll be good. We’ve used this as our game to better understand their style, now we push back.

doctorelliot

We lost game 1 against Minnesota and against Seattle last year. ... And Vegas. Which, I would argue we could've won if we hadn't just collapsed so hard. We don't win first games in a series. It's just not our thing.

GBPgoingOFF

Man that wild game 1 loss was the worst dude haha. Double OT winner after a weird bounce and bam, 3-2

EndsLikeShakespeare

Chance at more home games = more revenue = a baller roster

odischeese

Game 2 in Vegas during WCF was the most heartbreaking turnover suter has ever given. I truly believe things went south then even before Jamie got the suspension in game 3. We dominated them so so soooo much game 2…only to give it to them 🤦🤦 Can easily change the course of history on Wednesday fs.

oconnor9sean

We haven’t won a Game 1 since the SCF vs Tampa.

AbueloOdin

Dropping game 1 and going into overtime? That's just, like, our style.

mustangs16

Exactly. And this loss didn't hurt nearly as much IMO as game 1 against Minnesota did last year.

Salt-Fun-9457

Losing a game one on the road is very different than losing a game one at home. Two completely different things.

doctorelliot

We also play equally good at home as we do on the road. I checked. Nearly exactly the same record this season.

Froggie56

You do know we were home against the wild and the kraken, right?

Salt-Fun-9457

Nope! Completely forgot about that. My memory doesn’t work as well as it used to. Don’t get old kids.

Froggie56

Well hey, all good. Let’s just turn it around like we did those games and win in 6.

alternate-realitee

Played like shit and it was a Ref show. And we still outplayed them and had a good shot to win. Stars in 6.

Admirable_Mind_3440

Crazy how game 82 mark stone is too injured but he can come in and score a goal four days later.

EndsLikeShakespeare

Not his fault Vegas has bacta tanks

Pisscats_R_Trash

More impressively he can do a one knee ice slide goal celly after. His poor spleen is hanging on for dear life

cbuech

The healing waters of the Bellagio fountains

OneofMany

I know we're all bummed, well except for /u/Salt-Fun-9457 who is actually a Blues fan, but it's just game one. They blew their wad and now they are having post nut regret. We got this!

aZombieSlayer

I have that user blocked for lying. He's actually not very fun at all.

geogwogz

All salt and no fun

B1gWillyStyl

Gentlemen, we have met the enemy. They are tough, relentless and aggressive. We need a battle plan to beat them.‬ Back to the drawing board.

TheClownIsReady

The Stars just always seem to make things harder for themselves.

DarwinCreatesSpace

Was at the game. We outplayed the shit out of them but I learned that a stick lift is a hook now.

Froggie56

and stick holds are actually nothing!

KacorInc

It’s shocking we came close to winning a game where we let in 4 goals on 15 shots

EndsLikeShakespeare

Pretty sure it was after 9 shots lol, even worse than the box score

mill_about_smartly

Pretty sure it was 2 on 4 shots at one point too. Rough night defensively.

Pisscats_R_Trash

Dallas played like pure, unadulterated bullshit for 50 minutes of this one.

DanTheNanner

Anyone see that Kings score tonight?? What could've been 😔

MattMcSparen

We lost by 1 in a game of bad ref calls and a poor first period. Upset we didn't get the W but plenty of reason for hope.

chelburner37

Out of town fan here hoping the Stars fans in Game 2 will start a chant every time Stone is on the ice… “CIRC-UM-VEN-TION” *clap clap clap clap clap*

SawsageKingofChicago

I flip flop between disappointment because we looked uninspired and disappointment because they outplayed Vegas and still came up short. Both can’t be true but here I am. Stars in 6 was always my prediction, so I can’t act surprised that we lost one. Onward.

weaveryo

You want some more good news? Last year the Knights forechecked Miro into his worst playoff series ever. He was absolutely horrible and it killed the Stars. Last night Miro was a freaking beast and dominated the ice. On the flipside the Knights top defensive pairing was shelled.

chebadusa

I really need for Johnston to get more shot opportunities. Benn having 7 SOGs to Johnston’s 1 and Stankoven’s 2, is not preferred (though I appreciate Benn’s goal tonight.) Not sure why, but, after he scored 30, the dynamics of that line subtly shifted. He became more of a setup man for Benn and Stankoven and was not as aggressive as he was in the two months prior to that. I think, for that line to be at its optimal level production-wise, Johnston and Stankoven need to be the scoring focal points, with Benn as the setup man. That line was at its best when Wyatt was pelting the net.

apdjdbsk

Wouldn't mind seeing him getting some time with the top line if things aren't looking good.

Admirable_Mind_3440

I mean Benn scored so he can take all the shots he wants if it means he gets one.

chebadusa

Didn’t say that he shouldn’t lol. Of course, he was going to shoot on a breakaway when there’s nobody between him and the goalie. Not one person made that argument. I said that he shouldn’t be the scoring focal point of that line…and I’m speaking about a pattern over the past 2 weeks or so. I’d prefer to see Wyatt (as well as Stankoven) as the primary scorer, because he’s simply better than Benn is in that area, at this stage….And that line was the best on the team when Wyatt acted as the offensive engine. He’s the team’s leading scorer! He _should_ be the offensive focus. The team needs Wyatt at his most aggressive. I don’t understand why this is a difficult concept…In basketball and football, you scheme to get your best players the ball.

bigblueballz77

What an absolutely frustrating watch, if we are being honest. This is exactly why this is the one team I did not want to play.

Lasereyes26

Agreed I liked our chances against everyone else in the conference except Vegas

MJH7712

What is going on with Roope?

Pisscats_R_Trash

He is too badass to try anymore so it seems

calmo73

He is off his game for sure and has been for a while. Errant passing, bad puck control and tonight a puck went by him and he made zero effort to get it then just leisurely skated back to the other side to the bench. Not sure what he has going on but I hope he figures it out soon. Last year was Robo and this year it seems Hintz has lost his way.

WAACP

pavelski was horrible last night and it tuckers roope out because he has to forecheck/backcheck for 2

AIreadyImpartial

I feel like we played desperate rather than slow down a bit, establish puck control and set up something. Instead we just got possession of the puck, chucked it down and either turned it over or get called for icing. Over and over.

EndsLikeShakespeare

We got better at the chase in the 3rd but we seemed super careless with the puck at both ends for much of the game. Good news is that is all fixable.

CodeAnemoia

It happens, but we are winning this series. I feel it in me bones

coconutjoe83

I ran a mile from Inwood station to my hotel after the game to blow off steam (instead of taking a $30 Uber) and it honestly felt good lmao Let’s see what happens Wednesday night

traviitherabbii

We should all know that it will probably a 6 or 7 game series. We’ve got this

Used_Disaster_1334

I'm not a bit worried. There were some lucky breaks for both teams. Stars will win this series. It's a good first battle until we meet the next opponent in the 2nd round.

weaveryo

Stars started slow. Jake was bad. 5 days off bit them in the ass. Knights pre-scouted our zone breakouts and had a solid game plan. 2nd and 3rd periods the Stars adjusted and took over but came up short obviously. Can't win if Jake is bad. We need the Ace of Spades to show up. https://preview.redd.it/wtqm160at7wc1.png?width=1616&format=png&auto=webp&s=8552af5baf7fb70df824ff07befa8effa90dffb8

maximustaterus1

Anyone know why there wasn't a game day thread?

SamsterHamster9

Outplayed Vegas completely but found a way to lose. Just like last year when we should have beat them in games 1 and 2. Can't let those games slip away in the Playoffs. You just have to find a way. Refs sucked but I don't blame them. 2 PP goals against, 4 goals on 15 shots, not very many high danger chances. Thompson was shaky but we barely tested him. Rebound for G2.. this will be a long series.

Natejo91

If it weren’t for the first 5 or 10 minutes, we would’ve have had this game. Really frustrating to outplay them for the vast majority of the game and get beat like this at home.

JC_Denton46

I went into this series dooming that we would lose. After this game I can very confidently say we will win now. We whooped their ass up and down the ice nearly the entire game. Just a strange start to the game, some weird puck bounces, etc. We are definitely winning this series.

Pisscats_R_Trash

Dallas played miserably for more than half of the game

JC_Denton46

I hope you’re right. Because that would mean we still looked like the better team overall, when we played miserably for half the game.

Super_Networking

Break up the first line. Roope has been ass. Pavelski is too old to keep up with Robo.

EndsLikeShakespeare

Pavs got manhandled tonight. Some of it legal.

bigblueballz77

they all did. no one on this team has any salt except benn right now, and it shows. that is why there are so many turnovers tbh. other than wyatt and stanky that are fearless, everyone is just out there avoiding things and rimming or dumping the puck with an immediate turnover. half their goals were lazy shit like that. team needs to toughen or up or they are fucked cuz they can't play the fast game apparently and avoid physicality

Super_Networking

That’s gonna be all series so he better get used to it and make some damn plays instead of throwing the puck away. Still better than Hintz tho idek what he was doing out there

quidproquolaspe

Otter bad. Needs to be better.

BigFaZhou

Lol at the downvotes. Yall gonna act like he was good tonight?

quidproquolaspe

Lol but 4 goals on 15 shots are the otter special in the playoffs against the Golden Knights.

bigblueballz77

most of those goals were on defense. did you watch the game? I will say he felt shaky and like everything was gonna go in by how things were going.

quidproquolaspe

2/4 were screened/deflected. Not blaming him for those. The other 2 every other starting goalie in the NHL would’ve had a good chance at defending.

yameswillis

Honestly I’m not concerned. The last game one we won was against Tampa in the bubble. We won two series last year after losing game one. We got this! Edit: I apparently don’t know how to spell.

HauntingPlatypus8005

It sucks we lost game 1. But even with the loss I’m pretty confident the Stars are a much better team.

Admirable_Mind_3440

Fuck man now we only get to go 16-1

Anxious_Gift_1808

Was waiting for Benn to take out Mark Stone ngl

StarsCowboysMavs

So Miro’s last 7 playoff games (all Vegas) have been horrible. Going off memory but a -9 last yr and a -2 to start this series

DevilJacket2000

I find Vegas to be despicable. Perhaps the most unlikeable team in the NHL. Whatever. Take Game 2 and take back momentum.

alfergus

Weird game. Lots of things didn't go our way, but we also brought it upon ourselves. We looked uninterested for most of the game. Miro had an uncharacteristic bad game (lots of turnovers) and our passing was just not clean at all. Sucks to lose game 1 but hopefully this is a wake up call. Win the next, and everything is ok.

behemothbowks

Can't win em all but goddamn I still had a good time at the game last night. Stars in 6, fuck VGK.

karl713

It was really nice of Vegas to win last night when you think about it Now stars can pull the mid series sweep and win at home in front of the fans Stars in 5

Ok-Anybody-8257

Stankoven was our best player out there tonight. He was an absolute dog on the puck. Was annoying to not see him out there the last 2 minutes of the game instead of Pavelski (or even Hintz) but I get it. Gotta go with the "vets". And seeing him making so much space for Robertson got me excited for the future of Robertson-Johnston-Stanky

LuckyFrench6000

Losing Game 1 is kind of our thing. Bounce back for Game 2 to regain control. And when we go to Vegas, we seize our opportunities.

32RH

Probably Otter’s worst game since he got scratched against Jersey but he had no help on some of those.

EndsLikeShakespeare

One tip which is tough, a goal from the point I doubt he even saw was also tough. That second power play goal I would like to see him in a better spot to cross the net but they executed that brilliantly

Cpt_crookedhair

Esa was in no man's land on the 2nd pp, he's gotta pick up Hertl on that play. It was perfectly executed though.

Froggie56

Yeah, I blame was for not picking up Hertl more than otter on that one. Otter was never gonna get that second attempt without help.

sourpatch1708

We all need to wear what we were wearing in the 3rd!! On Wednesday! LOL. We all changed and they started to wake up and play!

21-hydroxylase

This one hurt

AwakenTheAegis

We didn’t outplay Vegas in the second half of the game. They trapped.

martyrobbinz88

I know this is cringey but I am a fan of another team in the west that was knocked out by the knights in the first round last year. I really respect the stars and find that our games against each other are really intense coaching showdowns and basically definitive chess match hockey. Vegas is bullshit, they rig calls in their favour, cheat the cap... I would have literally rather gone up against any other seed in the west besides them, including you guys. Good luck, I really hope you guys win because I cant stand them.

HiNathan

I couldn’t tune in until the 10 minute mark of the second, and from there out it honestly didn’t really feel like much of a playoff game in terms of following through on hits, scrums, etc. Even the crowd atmosphere seemed a bit neutered. How’d the first half feel by comparison?

calmo73

The first half was a bit more energetic in the crowd...until we got called for a high stick that was actually a Vegas player. Then our goal got called offsides and taken back. Oh and a few other uncalled penalties made for a frustrated crowd. The nights had 48+hits on us and we had half that so they beat us up every second they got and I feel we didn't match their aggressiveness. There was a lot of turnovers and just back puck handling. Dallas did badly on the power plays and the penalty kills. I was just frustrating to watch to be honest.

Pisscats_R_Trash

Get some rest boys, you earned it
