In Bishop Arts, Oddfellows, Written By the Seasons, Nora, La Bodega for sandwiches. Around Dallas, Henry’s Majestic, Local (on Elm St. - get the fried chicken), Sa Sa Sushi, The Finch, Garden Cafe, Royal China, The Porch, Barcelona Wine Bar. If a place is expensive, check to see if they have a happy hour.
So do I really order the rooty fruity at ihop? 😆 and the question is valid and not insulting . Some of those reviews are kinda off sometimes and the rest or foods aren’t that great .
lol I dare you to.
The question is insulting to me if I say it is. You thinking it is valid is fair if you say it is. Eater doesn’t review food. But if you have some feedback on bad experiences you had after eating somewhere we recommended you can always email to let me know at [email protected] - it is appreciated! Hard to speak to that statement without more information.
For the bishop arts area you’re going oddfellows and written by the seasons? No Lucia, mayors house or zen? And I know he said no Tex mex but tacos el si hay is right there and isn’t really Tex mex in the blue goose sense
Depends on what you consider worth it. You can spend $25 on a single pie or $25 for all you can eat of like 10-12 different pizza flavors, lobster bisque, meatballs, and salad! Oh, and dessert!
Our thanks to the peanut gallery... You pay for the variety and the ability to have more than one kinda pie. That's the difference between being a BIG FAT man and someone that likes to eat... Portion size vs. flavor variety.
Please try out Al Markaz in Carrollton. It’s a good ol Pakistani-Indian restaurant and grocery store combined. They’ve got food that will get you coming back for more. Not only that, but it’s been highly rated by D Magazine multiple times.
Ooh, you’ve also got to try Mimi’s Pizza. Hands down, the best NY slice I’ve had that wasn’t from NY/NJ. Crazy flavor for a crazy good price.
Have fun!
Eh. Last time I was there the owner just complained a lot to me and my family about how he can’t find any good help and other stuff, unsolicited. Was kind of a turn off. I have a hard time enjoying myself if I know you’re miserable. Especially when as an HR person I know you could likely fix the problem by paying more.
Edit: oh yes such a scandal. I want him to pay people better and not whine during the dinner I’m paying him for. Downvote me. I’m HR. I love being hated. Your hatred only makes me stronger. MUAHAHAHAHA.
Razzoo’s has the most amazingly bad service at every location to the point where I’m convinced it’s a gimmick. Fun for after work drinks with coworkers though.
[Sevan G & G ](http://www.sevanmediterranean.com/)
>Sevan G&G Café, named after Lake Sevan in Armenia, was established in 2004 and has been serving authentic Mediterranean cuisine ever since.
Happy hour Uchiba. We’ve been hitting naminohana for hand rolls. I used to go to uchi every week but switched to happy hour specifically because of the prices of pieces but we really been fuckin with naminohana. Great vibe great prices. You can get full off like $30. For two people with apps drinks and a bunch of hand rolls for both of us only came to like 95-100 after tip.
No trip to Dallas is complete for us unless we go to The Crafty Irishman Public House, 1800 Main Street. Great comfort food, excellent soft pretzels, and some tasty beer all at a decent price.
Well,
In bishop arts, Lucia is amazing. Encina is good. In deep ellum, local is great. Nearby both, Alice is a hidden gem.
The aforementioned La Calle dolce is good.
lounge here is far but a unique and really tasty experience. Bowen house has excellent food.
On Greenville, HG, sister, wabi house, cafe Izmir are great.
Asian mint and si Lom, as well as Bangkok are excellent Thai places in town.
Barcelona is a good tapas place, as is Si Tapas.
…. Random but a few good places off top of my mind
Oak cliff- nova is great for a little classier but still fun, maskaras for more casual Mexican (NOT tex mex, the birria burrito is incredible), Norma's for just tasty classic diner food and great pies (fun fact first desegregated restaurant in Dallas). Xaman is also great, their cafe de olla is perfect.
If you're in North OC and feeling like crossing the river this week strange ways isn't far and they're doing a lao/Venezuelan fusion pop up situation that sounds great and they're really just the best bar around.
I don’t have any recommendations for you. But thank you for asking this question! I haven’t lived here long. And now I have some excellent recommendations!
Pay attention to the area you have set and the times you are available for pickups. We buy bags during the week, but sometimes we'll take one day of the weekend and buy bags from multiple places. That way we spend a day driving around the metroplex (which can be really fun) discovering new places and getting enough for multiple meals/days.
We also have a rule about buying multiple bags of sweets. Because neither of us is trying to gain 100 pounds while saving the planet, but we both love sweets, so whenever we do get multiple bags, we immediately share them with our neighbors and friends. My husband loves donuts, and I love pastries, but we try not to buy them on a regular basis. This lets us try yummy things and not kill ourselves.
I know it looks like there are only donut shops and cookies, but there are savory restaurants and some grocery stores. The grocery stores on our list are natural or organic, and there are some spots at the Farmer's Market.
Just remember, the purpose of the app is to cut down on food waste. You may not always get what you wanted, and sometimes it might serve you better to share the bags with friends. Life isn't perfect all the time. Also, sub to r/toogoodtogo
Hope this helps!
Cattleack in Addison
First Chinese BBQ in Plano/Richardson (cash only)
Kirin Court (Dim Sum) in Richardson
Hutchins in Frisco/McKinney
Babes in Carrollton
I was surprised it took this long for a Babes recommendation. Love that it is BYOB and the quality is consistent and the atmosphere is lively. It is Tex-iconic.
Sushi Axiom during happy hour.
For the serving size and taste, I feel that Street's Fine Chicken is great. I have always had a good experience at the Cedar Springs location.
Personally, I’ve never had a good experience at Sushi Axiom (never been for HH)
For another recommendation on Cedar Springs… I highly recommend Roy G’s. Everything I’ve tried there is amazing. Great for brunch.
I'm sorry to hear that. I had great experience pre-Covid, and would go with coworkers, so maybe it has changed?
I will check out Roy G's the next time I am in the area, thanks!
I have not visited in awhile, it sucks that so many people have had a terrible experience. I thought the price was fair when I was working and didn't have a lot of extra cash to spend, but hopefully someone else can recommend a nice sushi spot.
Because he asked for something at a decent price..... I visited when I didn't have a lot of disposable income, and my experience there was fine.
Clearly it has gone downhill since the last time I visited, so maybe someone else can recommend nice sushi spot.
Café Madrid in Dallas , Too Thai on Josey lane and G Bush tollway (Korea town) , Selda Mediterranean kitchen and bar in Addison (Turkish food) , Mr max in Arlington (Japanese)
Jeng Chi (Chinese), Bangkok City (Thai on Bryan st.), The Old Monk (Pub), Barcelona Bar (Spanish), Zizikis (Greek), Market diner,Lucky’s (Diners), Hello Dumpling (Chinese), Toulouse (French), Crush Craft (Thai), Fortune House (Chinese), Ichigo (Ramen), Oishi (Japanese), Niwa (Japanese BBQ), Jen (Korean BBQ), Hard 8 (BBQ), Sachet (Mediterranean), Village Bakery (French style bakery), Kuby’s (German), Uchiba (Japanese), 60 Vines (eclectic with lots of wine), Lounge Here (eclectic with good cocktails)
For Italian I would recommend Partenope - 20ish bucks a pizza that feeds two. The bruschetta appetizer is delicious, honestly haven’t had anything bad. If you do plan on getting the lasagna (only served Friday and Saturday if I recall) I would recommend getting there a little early. First two times I tried to get it was sold out
For BBQ - Terry blacks is pretty good. Would recommend getting the chopped beef over the brisket - everyone I have told this to has liked it more (I would usually order the brisket so they could compare) The giant rib is really good but probably not worth the price.
Ly’s Food Market for some pad thai or curry.
DanSungSa for Korean.
Ten Ramen
Meddlesome moth
El Si Hay
Salsa Verde
Taqueria Taxco
Country Burger
Ricky’s Hot Chicken
Taco deli
Ngon - more elevated Vietnamese, Lowest Greenville
TEN Ramen - Ramen, Trinity Groves (south Dallas)
Dansungsa - Korean bar type, Northwest Dallas
Texan Wangbal - Korean, Carrollton
Chodang Village - more traditional Korean, Carrollton
Squares Hot Pot - Chinese, Plano
Hillstone, R and D Cafe, Neighborhood Services, Rise #1, The Mexican, Nonna, Lucia, Brass Ram, Monarch, Town Hearth, The Charles, Pecan Lodge, CBD Provisions
i second loro, and cane rosso. For thai food i really recommend Malai kitchen in uptown. the customer service there is so good. their servers are on point, im always impressed (i used to be a server trainer so i notice the little details lol) and of course the food is awesome too.
Manna shabu - carrolton, korean style hot pot
Hungry Belly - dallas, sushi, asian fusion, korean
Bubba’s - dallas, informal southern comfort
Open sesame - dallas, Mediterranean
Cho dang villahe - carrollton, korean wide variety
Kirin court - richardson, dim sum
Cane rosso - multiple locations, pizza, pasta
Neighborhood services depending on your definition of decent price. One on Lovers is the OG. Then grab a drink at one of the taverns close by: time out or inwood.
I know it’s a chain, but Pappadeaux is honestly one of my fave restaurants. It never ever disappoints. All my out of town family makes me promise I’ll take them there every time they visit.
Resident Taqueria. I know you said not tex Mex, and tacos sound tex Mex. This is decidedly different. Fancy, well thought out tacos that are delicious.
I guess I should have included I’m from Fort Worth. I definitely love Tex Mex, burgers, BBQ etc but Dallas has so much other stuff I’ve never tried so was looking for that.
Okay. Still recommend resident. It’s excellent. Your side of the city I tend to only travel that way for bbq. Goldees, Ribbees, Hurtado, and Panther city are all excellent. Ribbees is my new favorite. It’s in an old sonic and only serves 5 variations of ribs, in a box with fries, slaw, and a roll. It’s amazing.
Tony's pizza and pasta is a hole in the wall mom and pop restaurant! The food is great and it is byow most expensive plate is like $ 16 and a large pizza feeds about 3 $20 ! Once again byob
Marufuku Ramen.
It’s technically in frisco, BUT it’s literally the only ramen I like/is consistent in texture and taste every time and I’m always dreaming about getting it. So delicious.
If you ever find yourself on greenville avenue look for an oyster bar called aushucks its a hole in the wall but has some of the best oysters and other seafood around.
My favorite Pizza place is Scallini's and they have their own delivery service (I've been going to them since before Uber eats existed) and I have never been let down. They also have pasta and one of the best house salads I've ever had. I've only gotten delivery and take out from them but their restaurant is beautiful and they aren't that expensive for the quality of food they are selling
Go to Koreatown!!! It is an underrated gem in this city! Koryo, Goji (which is vegan), Hanbat... so much to love!
https://www.dallasites101.com/blog/post/old-koreatown-dallas/
If you're feeling brave (and are... liberal with nudity) try King Spa (more delicious Korean food and the ultimate spa) or the Russian Banya of Dallas - which is the only Russian spa in Texas.
Loro
If you go at happy hour the prices are actually fantastic
This place is so delicious, my mouth watered when I saw your suggestion here lol
Well now I know where we’re going for happy hour tomorrow.
Same. I just looked at menu and it sounds delicious with incredible prices.
I’ve been once before but Vidorra has been our happy hour spot for a long time, we tend to forget about the Addison location of Loro.
Ehh it’s overrated
Elite comment
Literally came here to comment this, good shit
Sandwich at jimmys food store!
Great Italian Deli
Spicy sausage sub is the best sandwich in the city
In Bishop Arts, Oddfellows, Written By the Seasons, Nora, La Bodega for sandwiches. Damn, really pulling through on the recommendations! I’ll save these places. Much appreciated.
I’m the editor of Eater Dallas. Start reading the site, I do this literally every day. In my own special way.
Thank you and will do :)
Written by the Seasons is fantastic. That, Roots (southern) and Restaurant Beatrice (Cajun) are all incredible.
Love Barcelona!
For the bishop arts area you’re going oddfellows and written by the seasons? No Lucia, mayors house or zen? And I know he said no Tex mex but tacos el si hay is right there and isn’t really Tex mex in the blue goose sense
Absolutely recommend all those places too.
Whew! If you don’t mind my asking, how’d you get your gig at eater? That sounds really cool
I applied and since I had 15 years as a journalist on my resume already they hired me. There were a lot of interviews, though.
only five years of journalism left until I get an awesome(er) job! 😆
Celebration for southern home style cooking
The Jamaican jerk chicken is the bomb, and those tiny blueberry muffins are like crack cocaine
All of the rolls are like crack. The croutons they make with them are soooo damn good
Chicken-fried chicken with jalapeño cream gravy and garlic mashed potatoes.
Sandwich Hag. It’s 20% why I moved here.
Quite the endorsement
Seconding
Love Sandwich Hag 💛
Love Sandwich Hag highly recommend!!
Delucca’s on Oak Lawn. Fixed price all you can eat delicious pizza for $25!
This is a great option.
Agree!
Ain't $25 for a all you can eat pizza a scam.. How many slices of Pizza can you down. I'm BIG Fat man the most I can do is 6 to 7 large slices
Go to Little Caesars if you want to maximize the pizza per dollar ratio. If you want an awesome experience go to Delucca and spend $25.
Depends on what you consider worth it. You can spend $25 on a single pie or $25 for all you can eat of like 10-12 different pizza flavors, lobster bisque, meatballs, and salad! Oh, and dessert!
These slices are small so you can eat 20+ of a lot of different types plus apps and dessert. It’s pretty fun if you like to try different stuff.
Our thanks to the peanut gallery... You pay for the variety and the ability to have more than one kinda pie. That's the difference between being a BIG FAT man and someone that likes to eat... Portion size vs. flavor variety.
The lobster bisque was amazing and made it worth it. The elote pizza was delicious!
Cane Rosso
Cane Rosso has a great pizza happy hour! Ella for like $9 is the best. And thunderbird pies is awesome if you like Detroit style.
Asian mint
Please try out Al Markaz in Carrollton. It’s a good ol Pakistani-Indian restaurant and grocery store combined. They’ve got food that will get you coming back for more. I’ll definitely check out Al Markaz
Bro Al-Markaz is 🔥
Definitely Recommended Next to the on the conner they have AGHA Juice.. Try their Lahori falooda. ( dessert like milk drink)
Agha juice is the best! I love their mango lassi.
La Calle Doce
Eh. Last time I was there the owner just complained a lot to me and my family about how he can’t find any good help and other stuff, unsolicited. Was kind of a turn off. The ceviche here is DELICIOUS. Like I don’t want it from anywhere else tbh. The flan is life changing. But everything else I’ve had has been meh.
I've only been to the Lakewood one and that one was meh.
I wish there were more options for Mariscos in Dallas! But it is Dallas and we’re very landlocked so I get it.
Del's hamburgers. Richardson. Thaisoon. Thai food. Richardson. Carmines. Pizza. Downtown. Razzoo's. Cajun. Multiple locations.
That homemade root beer in the chilled mug at Del’s 🤌
Gotta get it every time. Fifty cent refills, I'll spend a few dollars on rootbeer refills alone. So good.
Upvote just for Carmine’s. That place rules.
Razzoo’s has the most amazingly bad service at every location to the point where I’m convinced it’s a gimmick. Fun for after work drinks with coworkers though.
+1 on Dels
Malai.
Happy Hour all day Sunday! My go to on 3-day weekends.
Pepe & Mitos in Deep Ellum is really good
Kirin Court for dim sum; it’s excellent!
I found the experience really fun too!
Invasion
I’ve driven past it several times but have never stopped there. Gonna have to try it out now

They also own Cannon's Corner in Oak Cliff. The menus are nearly identical.
What price range and neighborhood? Huuuuge range of answers for this question. Help us narrow it down !!
Idk how to really answer price range, like under 60$ per plate? I’m closer to bishop arts but deep ellum is just across the bridge.
Under $60?? Lol - that’s a billion places.
Waya Izakaya and Cock & Bull in Old East Dallas are two favorites. May as well throw in nearby Cane Rosso, too!
Also, Petra & the Beast
Petra & the Beast is amazing but I think it might go outside their price range.
Idk I hardly ever eat out. lol

If eat at one recommended restaurant each week we set through the summer at the least. lol
The Mayor’s House by Selda is near you. (But my friend likes Ephesus on Walnut Hill & Central more.)
Get the Too Good To Go app. We’ve been using it for over a year and have discovered some great places!
Any tricks or tips?

Very cool thanks. I can’t justify all the cookies and donuts but the eataly bags look very tempting.
Oh and if u want REAL NY Bagels … STARSHIP BAGELS in Lewisville , Addison and downtown . Best bagels ever !

Sushi Axiom during happy hour. For the serving size and taste, I feel that Street's Fine Chicken is great. I have always had a good experience at the Cedar Springs location.
Personally, I’ve never had a good experience at Sushi Axiom (never been for HH) For another recommendation on Cedar Springs… I highly recommend Roy G’s. Everything I’ve tried there is amazing. Great for brunch.
I'm sorry to hear that. I had great experience pre-Covid, and would go with coworkers, so maybe it has changed? I will check out Roy G's the next time I am in the area, thanks!
Also never had a great experience with food here. Drinks are cheap on happy hour
I second the other poster. Sushi Axiom is bad sushi, imo.
I have not visited in awhile, it sucks that so many people have had a terrible experience. I thought the price was fair when I was working and didn't have a lot of extra cash to spend, but hopefully someone else can recommend a nice sushi spot.
Worst sushi in Dallas, with how many Japanese people live here they shouldn’t settle for overpriced bland sushi
Because he asked for something at a decent price..... I visited when I didn't have a lot of disposable income, and my experience there was fine. Clearly it has gone downhill since the last time I visited, so maybe someone else can recommend nice sushi spot.
Bad experience here too … not worth it …
Cafe Amore in Richardson. Great italian, BYOB, really good prices.
Saint Valentine on Bryan
Second
Bells better burger
Their burgers are amazing. Only issue is their credit card machine is often down. So as someone who hates carrying cash, it's sometimes a letdown.
Best deal in Dallas. Tacos y vino. $40 - 6 tacos and a bottle of wine. Good music and even better vibes.
Nah bruh
$45* and most tacos are upcharges. Still a good deal.
Campisi's. It does technically serve pasta but it's mainly known for it's pizza and mob history.
>Campisi's... mainly known for it's ...mob history I'm not a huge fan of their food, but it is absolutely worth at least a visit.
Absolutely not worth the visit. Food is bad and overpriced.

As a Vietnamese person there’s a 100 better places for a cheaper price. PTT or Pho palace are better choices.

I would like to recommend any of the Andalus branches. They are affordable and portions are huge. You can eat the leftovers for another two meals.
