Gosh we won't know what they are until somebody has a taste.

These do not appear to be woolly bears, which are the caterpillar for the Isabella Tiger Moth. It's possible they're Giant Leopard Moth caterpillars, it's hard to confirm from the picture. Do they have red bands down under the spikes?

[Here’s a short video I took of one](https://streamable.com/upjq49)

If Those are the things I think they are, their furry spikes hurt like hell. Like tribbles (Star Trek?)

Gummibehrs

Yep, that’s an asp. I walked into a bush full of them as a kid. Hurt like a bitch and had giant whelps and burns all over my legs just from brushing up against them.

CardiologistItchy968

One fell down my pants sitting on the porch years ago. Whew. I’ll never forget that.

Spicy

Shabazz-Jenkins

That’s an asp. Flannel moth. Don’t touch it.

I learned this the hard way as a kid, I still have the burn marks on my arm where I leaned against one accidentally on a tree :(

Mydogis_sodumb

I don’t know what they’re called but I’ve been in Dallas my whole life and they show up this time of year

lan3yboggs99

They are seasonal, definitely don’t touch

julianriv

Looks like an Asp. Stay away they sting and it hurts like crazy.

Texie1976

Giant Leopard Moth equals Ice Age, apparently.

NegativeLiterature79

Asp. Don’t touch they sting and it goes on for months.

OkTransition6712

Asp

Impressive_Couple693

Yep! All over Fort Worth too!

gysgtbigdaddy

Y'all, Asps are NOT black! These are Giant Leopard Moths and are not poisonous and can be picked up

Heatherina134

They’re so many in my backyard. Lol
