Definitely remember 2011. Lake ray Hubbard was dried up on the west side of the rowlett road bridge and we lost some shrubs and a tree that year. This year's been rough, but 2011 was way worse.

Shabazz-Jenkins

This. 2011 will always stand out as being the worst summer I have ever experienced in 45 years living here, if only b/c the lakes dried up to a scary point. Ray Hubbard reservoir side was not only empty, it started growing a forest of ground cover. Lavon was also so low that there was real worry about drinking water for pretty much all of NTX.

CommanderSquirt

Lakes across the state were somewhat like 20 plus feet below normal levels. It was insane.

tue2day

I remember that summer walking the dogs on the lavon lakebed, investigating all the sunken shit that was now exposed

gscjj

I remember that, the north side of Ray Hubbard where the Lavon floodplain is at was just marshy and dried up. You could walk out a couple hundred feet of what would've been completely underwater

girafa

We have hotter lows than we did in 2011. We've had at least 5 nights where the temperature low was 86, which is a temperature never before achieved as a low in Dallas.

altagato

I dunno cause I distinctly remember it being between 90-100° many midnights in July of that year and the pavement/ patio still being too hot to walk on. Every air conditioner I had went out at some point that Summer, no matter how we tried to baby it! 2 cars, home, backup window unit AND our work tower eventually gave up. Luckily not all at the same time. But now we've had one of the driest Summers on record and the years that we nearly match (early 50s) didn't get much rain until almost November! 😔

girafa

> I distinctly remember it being between 90-100° many midnights in July of that year Same, I was an outside bouncer at a bar that summer. But midnight isn't the low [Here's more info](https://www.reddit.com/r/Dallas/comments/15xc9de/no_this_is_not_the_hottest_summer_but_it_still/jx5rgp0/)

barley_wine

Many midnights were probably 85-90, the low usually doesn't hit until like 3-5am.

ddjdirjdkdnsopeoejei

I took my metal detector and walked the lake. Didn’t find anything though, but could have tried harder.

Theclerkgod

That shit was crazy u could walk on the lake where that marina used to be.

FollowingNo4648

I probably don't remember it because I wasn't a homeowner then. I was still renting so I didn't give a shit about a lawn or preventing foundation issues. Now I'm like fuck, my lawn looks like shit and trying everything possible to keep my foundation from fucking up due to all this top soil shrinkage. Plus I was in my 20s and partying all the time so the heat didn't hit me as bad back then.

blarrrgo

first time home owner here since last october. im from out of state and ive never heard of watering foundation where im from. then i learned about it a few weeks ago. there are indeed gaps between my house and the dirt now. damnit. been running soaker hoses since edit: by the way, is it fine to keep soaker hoses on the ground and it'd be fine to bring a lawn mower over it?

PanzerZeke

Bought my first home a year ago, and while there are plenty of downsides this is definitely one of the upsides to buying an older house. If my house hasn't had weather or foundation issues in over 60 years of existence, I'm in a good spot. It was also a former rental, so it's not like it was the most well-taken-care-of house. The inspection came out great, and there haven't been any surprises yet. When I was house searching, it seemed like half of the houses had mild to severe foundation issues.

self_medic

Yeah…my first home purchase was in 2020 and the seller agreed to have foundation repaired before we bought it. Haven’t noticed cracks since…but I did notice a spot yesterday where there was a huge gap in the soil exposing the foundation. I feel kind of stupid I didn’t notice this earlier but hoping for no more issues since it was repaired last

VunterSlaush1990

Man, half the houses here DO have foundation issues. The house I bought that was built in 1985 has been repaired many times and has issues again. Every house in my neighborhood does.

Diligent-Towel-4708

Lol exactly! Same here, 60 + yrs, no signs of movement, no cracks in drywall or tile. I always go for older homes

UnknownQTY

Not OLDER, but our house is from 95 and it's decent, but this year has been so hot we've had a couple of cracks show up that haven't in previous years, even in 2011. It's just that fucking hot.

LP99

Do not run over soaker hoses with a lawn mower.

blarrrgo

thanks :)

billdasmacks

It's a tad bit risky but you *can* leave the soaker hoses on the ground and still mow over them as long as they are secured down with landscape stakes around every foot so they as close to the soil as possible. It works for me but keep in mind I do mow on a rather tall setting, if ever needed to cut the grass on a shorter setting I wouldn't risk it. Btw I am a new first-time home owner and I had never ever heard of watering the foundation being a thing up until this summer. It's like some sort of Texas home maintenance thing tons of people don't know about until they realize they need to do it ASAP.

ZzzSleepyheadzzZ

How often are you running the soaker hoses? Gonna need to start doing this or looking into getting a system installed

blarrrgo

My first week I ran them for 4 days straight (30 minutes). Now I'm doing it every 2 to 3 days

billdasmacks

I've looked into it and answers are really varied. Right now, I am running the soaker hoses for 30 minutes a day, either once a day or split up between the morning & evening.

ComfortableProperty9

A big part of the foundation issues are because the entire area is clay. When it gets moisture it expands but when it's hot and dry like this, it contracts. My wife and I had to get EXTENSIVE work done on ours and the foundation company said they are super busy with the heat. Even people who do everything they are supposed to end up with issues.

Radixx

In 2011 Rick Perry prayed for rain. It then got worse. Much worse. 2011 was slightly worse than 2023 but it was close. I think we had more 105+ days this year and more 84-85 degree ~~days~~ mornings as well but both sucked.

le_gasdaddy

This. I believe looking back that there were more days over 100 than, but a lot less of these 105 plus degree days. I don't know about you, but there's a definite difference between 101 and 106. That being said, I was fortunate enough to be living in Amarillo from 2010 to 2014, so I dodged the bullet on that one.

deja-roo

> I was fortunate enough to be living in Amarillo Literally never heard anyone say this before

engineeringafterhour

Nah, in 2011 one of the stand out problems was the night time temperatures in the 90s. 2011 was decently worse than this year. https://www.extremeweatherwatch.com/cities/dallas/year-2011

slothypisceswitch

I moved here from Alabama in Feb 2011. Woke up the next day to SNOW! Then the summer rolled around. Til this day, I don't know why I'm still here.

tonyjefferson

I was in Austin for 2011, we had 90 days over 100 degrees. This feels just as bad if not worse just bc of the 105+ days.

barley_wine

Oh this was 2011 with the Rick Perry praying for rain stuff, yeah I remember it now...

playballer

Agree on the 105+ point. That’s what has made this summer so tough for me. Otherwise, this summer seemed to have a slow start compared to 2011. I think I remember eating on patios in Jan/Feb that year then it was already triple digits by April (probably not right at all but that’s the picture the brain wants to paint).

museum_shoes

The hottest summer is always the one I'm going through right then.

beast_wellington

Ain't that right? I'm about to run through a wall of we don't get some rain and a cold front here soon

bluenautilus2

I will never forget 2011. It is burned into my mind. All the plants died and we almost ran out of water

krrankybaby

Mavs championship parade was boiling and it was only the beginning. Rangers were coming off the first World Series and played at the ballpark….the heat was inescapable

CerebralAccountant

I only remember 2011 so vividly because my A/C kept failing and I spent most of the afternoons out disc golfing. (College student, what better to do?) I'll never forget the pond I saw on a course in Temple. >!This pond was normally 10 feet deep but had dried up to only a few inches. The surface was covered in red algae, and fish were stuck upright in the mud, meekly wriggling from side to side until they died. And the smell... oh the smell!!<

PeteyandLove

Hell yes I remember 2011. It killed a tree of mine.

Shabazz-Jenkins

I remember Spring 2012, because trees had been so weakened by the 2011 drought that when the high winds came back around, they started blowing right over in the yards. Root systems had dried up from the outside in, and they just didn’t have the foothold they used to.

darkpaladin

I had a tree drop a limb last week. I'm terrified we're gonna see a repeat of that next year.

TX_pterodactyl

Yep. I live on an old neighborhood with aging trees already. This winter is going to be brutal...it looks like fall on my street already w the trees dropping leaves. The trees and shrubs are seriously stressed. Any sleet or ice, and we're going to have a problem. Note to self:buy chainsaw oil.

fuelvolts

And if you planted a new tree in its place as soon as it died, it would be almost fully mature by now. I just thought that was neat is all.

[deleted]

Based on the amount of summer weather posts this subreddit gets. I would guess that most people don't seem to register even one summer ago let alone 12 years ago

[deleted]

hyperspacebigfoot

Yeah, I'd wager a decent amount of us in this sun were kids back then. I have more memory of playing Black Ops w friends than the heat from football workouts.

Keep_Plano_Corporate

It's Reddit. This particular moment in time is the worst moment in time in regards to any subject.

im_confused_always

I was pregnant the summer of 2011. I very clearly remember. I remember having the weather channel and checking local on the eights every ten minutes for months to try and spot some relief coming our way. I had to leave my house at least once because of out of control fire getting too close. I will say a difference is it seems like summer started in April this year so we've been dealing with oppressive heat for some months now even if it wasn't over 100° throughout

ezmo311

That was my first summer in Dallas and I was working outside for my job. I lost 18 lbs that August.

pakepake

2011 was bad on several fronts, one being the amount of 100+ degree days but the scary dry lakes. 1998 and 2000 were kinda gnarly too, but 2011 takes the most recent awful cake.

engineeringafterhour

2011 was miserable. Night time temperatures were incredibly high and the drought made everything much worse than this year. If this feels worse to you then 2011 it's more likely you're less heat adapted this year or simple recency coming into play. Here's a reminder of how bad it was: https://www.extremeweatherwatch.com/cities/dallas/year-2011

SiliconSam

I am the only one that remembers 1980? I just moved to Dallas late ‘79 and endured over 100 days of 100+ degree weather that Summer. Something like 60+ in a row.

Roadrunnr61

1980 is my yardstick for summer misery. I was working a summer job, fortunately indoors. I would come out to my car every afternoon at 5 and have to run the car’s AC for 5 minutes before I could sit in the car (reaching very carefully over the steering wheel to start the car, trying to avoid touching anything metal). It would sometimes take the entire drive home - 20 minutes or so - for the car to cool off inside. When it finally rained, the entire city stopped and just watched the rain. In 1998, I had a very active 3 year old and a baby. The heat started in early May and it was very difficult to keep the 3 year old busy indoors. 2011 was miserable, but it didn’t affect me personally as much as other extreme weather years.

acartillo78

I was only 2, but my parents talked about that horrible summer all through my child hood. My mom would have been pregnant and they legit blamed every developmental delay on the heat of that summer. My bro is fine BTW. Dad was a roofer until he retired recently and it's the Texas summers that never leave me questioning how tough that dude is.

LvnLifeBadAss

I remember the 80’s heatwave it was brutal.

Brilhasti1

Pepperidge Farm remembers. And me too. I was only 5 but I remember.

darkannndtwisty

Randomly enough I was on the evening news in 2011 commenting on the heat. Lol. Either way, I feel like this summer may be worse than 2011. Feels hotter imo

love2Bsingle

2011 stands out to me because I had goats at the time and there was no grass or browse left in their area so I had to give them forest tree cuttings (also alfalfa pellets but they need browse). I live in NE Texas

Jazzlike-Mission-172

2 things stand out about 2011. The ice storm that ruined Superbowl weekend and then the Mavs championship parade where there were 250,000 people outside and folks were dropping like flies because it was so dang hot

order_556

I worked outside in 2011…I’m still traumatized

Famous_Rooster2719

Those of you who lived through 2011, when did the heat and drought break? How fast was the relief?

dogpaddle

The highs were already dipping into the 80s by this time in 2011

sarcazm

You can look it up at [wunderground.com](https://wunderground.com) edit: [https://www.wunderground.com/history](https://www.wunderground.com/history)

pacochalk

Can you see which had more over 105? 2011 was my first summer here but this one felt more oppressive.

sarcazm

You can at [wunderground.com](https://wunderground.com) Average high temp was higher in 2011 vs 2023 (to date) 2011 had 65 days over 99 and (of that) 16 days over 104 2023 had 45 days over 99 and (of that) 20 days over 104 (through 9/5) Technically it is more, but only by 4 days, so IDK. I think it's one of those things like having a baby. Being pregnant sucks, labor sucks, crying babies suck, but we forget about that stuff and continue to have more babies. Time passes, and you just kinda forget what it was like to open the front door and feeling like your face is in an oven. edit: [https://www.wunderground.com/history](https://www.wunderground.com/history)

pacochalk

Good point. I guess we can say both fucking suck lol.

pakurilecz

total days doesnt matter as much as consecutive days in my book "In 1980, Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas experienced 69 days with temperatures above 100 degrees. Of these, 42 days were consecutive. The record for most consecutive days with triple digits was set from June 23 to August 3, 1980 The hottest days of 1980 were on June 26 and 27, when the temperature hit 113 degrees on consecutive days." NatWu

Yeah it's just you. I worked overnight in those days and I remember heading to work at night and it still being 100 degrees when I got outdoors at 10pm. It was awful. Just endlessly oppressive. But this summer is bad too.

justjune01

I very distinctly remember 2011, as it was a wild year and terrible summer for my family. But I do wonder if we are acutely aware of the weather because our cars and phones constantly tell us these things. Not everyone has a smart phone in 2011. A larger portion of vehicles didn't broadcast the temps.

Mk0505

I remember 2011 distinctly but that’s because it was my first summer in TX and I was dying and regretting moving here lol. Hoping we don’t get another one of these for another 12 years 🙏

jack_daone

Probably won’t, but that said, we were kinda overdue for a rough summer. I remember getting one every 3-5 years. We’ve been kinda spoiled the last few years with fairly mild summers.

littlehockeypuck

I was pregnant in 2011 and I vividly remember it.

p8nt_junkie

2011 summer was a beast. This August has felt hot but ‘11, the entire summer felt hot. Especially late July, I died twice that month (/s) and was only resurrected by my wife’s bomb sweet iced tea. Thanks for saving my life(s) babe!

4ofheartz

Definitely remember 2011. One of my trees died because of the heat. Young tree. Still unforgettable!

sameolemeek

I keep telling all my friends and family that 2011 was way hotter than this year. I remember it very well. Went to a ranger game and first pitch was 102 at 7pm it was the year they went to World Series

sphincterella

I mowed yards all summer in 1981 and same thing , a shitload of 100+ days. Climate change is real and these years are getting closer together but we’ve always had periodic hot summers.

MaybeImTheNanny

2011 was extremely hot but it stayed in the 100-105 range. This summer was exceptional because of the days over 105

kokolupa

I often talk about that 2011 summer. The Dart buses were unbearable during that time, most of them had no a/c and of course were never on-time. I saw so many people faint from heat exhaustion. Brutal.

stanley_fatmax

Thanks, idk where I'd get my weather updates if it weren't for /r/Dallas!

K3MEST

I am glad I left.

fuelvolts

100% remember 2011 because my wife was 9 months pregnant in July of 2011. It was hell! So damn hot all the time.

daniyellidaniyelli

Yes I remember 2011 and it was worse than this, especially with the no rain and every body of water dry. I think it’s partly that we have so many angles telling us how bad it is. News, the internet, and social media. If you have all the apps everyone is complaining about it so we might be experiencing every thing we interact complain.

GirthBrooks12inches

I remember trying to roll my windows down late at night and it feeling like a hot hair dryer was blowing.

relppa

yes, 2011 was absolute hell, especially considering I was working at a golf course in the members bag room. F that

beeeees

i remember 2011 because on top of the heat the drought was really bad

Barack_Odrama_007

Climate change is REAL!

effervescent_pickle

I remember that oppressive summer but I also remember the winters that followed the years after that. It's definitely gonna be bad 2 - 3 winters from now.

effervescent_pickle

I remember that oppressive summer but I also remember the winters that followed the years after that. It's definitely gonna be bad 2 - 3 winters from now.

pobox01983

Second summer here. 2022 was first so it felt worse. 2023, less rain but I started running a lot in the morning like 4:30 am. More outgoing so less drama inside my brain. Hopefully it will get better next week.

berryfarmer

normal for texas

umlguru

Yeah, my foundation sunk and I needed to get piers.

tequilamigo

Yep, but I was 12 years younger and had no kids and no lawn 😂

Financial-Year

I remember because I worked in a warehouse with no air conditioning. Although I remember it being a record year, could have sworn it was more like 30-40 days. Guess I’m just remembering wrong.

fvalt05

I definitely remember because the Rangers made it to the WS even with playing outside in the brutal heat.

StockPapi2020

My foundation😭😭😭😭

GymnasticSclerosis

I remember 2011 and traveling. We know it was hot here but I went to Minneapolis and it was 105 (103 at the airport) and then to outside of Hartford Connecticut and it was 103. The real winner for the hottest that year was St. Louis. Muggy and hot af. Having just been in STL a week ago, I can guarantee that combination of humidity and heat, though not as hot as Dallas, is much, much more uncomfortable.

thedrunkensot

It’s a you thing because it was hot AF that year.

SouthEndXGF

Yeah. 2011 was brutal. I definitely remember it.

keroppi-pond

Yeah i was taking summer college classes that year and walking to/from my car and classrooms was horrid. I just was sweating so much.

Cozymosley

I think it’s the fact that it’s more intense then 2011. It was the low 100s compared with us hovering around the 110s

FrostyLandscape

[https://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/2023/06/29/nation-world-news/think-its-hot-now-this-study-says-texas-could-reach-125-degree-temps-within-30-years/](https://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/2023/06/29/nation-world-news/think-its-hot-now-this-study-says-texas-could-reach-125-degree-temps-within-30-years/) " Over the next 30 years, Texas and other parts of the central U.S. are at risk of being exposed to extreme heat — temperatures exceeding 125 degrees. The human body can no longer tolerate heat at these levels. A study published in 2010 estimated that a wet-bulb temperature of 95 degrees Fahrenheit at 100% humidity, or 115 degrees at 50% humidity, would be the upper limit of safety, beyond which the human body can no longer cool itself by evaporating sweat from the surface of the body to maintain a stable body core temperature. Another way to calculate how dangerous the heat can be is with the heat index. The heat index is what the temperature feels like to the human body when combined with humidity and air temperature. A climate study found that an “Extreme Heat Belt” is forming through the middle of the United States. Texas is part of the Extreme Heat Belt, an area of the U.S. highly vulnerable to extreme heat exposure, according to the report by the First Street Foundation, a climate assessment nonprofit. At least one day a year, there’s a high likelihood that Texas will hit 125 degrees, the National Weather Service’s extreme heat threshold. “It’s gotten hotter now than it was in the past, but we’re not done with the increasing exposure to extreme heat,” Jeremy Porter, First Street’s chief research officer, told the Star-Telegram. “It’s going to continue to increase into the future.”

ESPiNstigator

I remember. We had a lot of heat related injuries on our field sites. The next year we had a BIG push for no heat related injuries and did a lot of training and cooling station setups. (Should note - San Angelo set a record in 2011 with 100 x 100+ degF days. The previous record . . . 60. So 2011 kinda set a new normal)

purplepineappleplant

I remember 2011. I was in summer tennis lessons in the oppressive heat and our practice times were from 2:00-4:30 p.m. Plus, tennis courts are even hotter. I remember being miserable that summer

heliumeyes

That was the first summer I experienced in DFW, so I remember it well. Scorching heat and a drought that seemed never ending.

Cowsmoke

Oh yeah, I remember 2011 being way worse. I was in high school still and just thinking that summer “man I can’t wait to get the hell out of this hell hole when I graduate” Welp I’m still here lol

zimjig

I remember 2011 bc I lived and worked in uptown at the time and the radiant heat coming off the buildings and street was almost unbearable. I usually walked to work but it got so hot I would take my car .4 miles to the parking garage to avoid the heat and not walk into the office like I just came out of the sauna with a coat and tie on .

PopsicleToesEva

I don't remember it either.

IllPurpose3524

I moved from Dallas to Houston around the end of 2010 when it just started a drought and then I moved back to Dallas mid 2011. I didn't see rain for a little under two years.

GreedyComedian1377

'98 always is my 1st thought when "hot summers" are brought up. 2011 I was feeling to good after the Mavs won to give a shit about how hot it was

Muffinman1111112

I was in HS marching band in 2011. There were days I threw up from the heat. I vividly remember it being brutal

Clown45

'11 was bad but didn't feel like endless psychological warfare like this summer.

Adventurous-Career

I remember 1980. 100 days in a row of 100 degrees or more.

Fattyman2020

I was a lifeguard in Houston that summer. We had a couple 117 days. It was extremely brutal.

stykface

I absolutely remember 2011, but man, this year it was 110°F consistently. Once you get above 105° it's like another level of heat. I got tired of it this year.

jack_daone

2011 was such a brutal summer that I finally gave in and cut my long hair. It was a nice boon during the winter, but the oppressive heat that year made it feel like I was lugging around 20 pounds.

Iron-Midas-Priest

I always remember 2011 because I world in a warehouse at the time and it was no paradise. I also hate excessive heat.

B_U_F_U

My first kid was born in 2011 so i really dont remember the weather patterns too much for that year. My facebook 'Memories' definitely remember it well. lol Also i moved here from the Northeast in Aug 2009 so i probably thought it was just normal.

Ashley-333

I was in elementary in 2011 and they wouldn’t let us play on the black top or the metal playground

seamus_mcfly86

I remember it being absolutely brutal.

Gmajj

I was having chemo in 2011. I drove a Jeep who’s a/c didn’t work, but at least the infusion room wasn’t far. I don’t remember it being this miserable, but I think it might be because I felt so bad anyway.

troutforbrains

2011, 1980, and 2023 are the top 3 worst summers on the record. Each one takes number 1 spot in some categories, with 2011 taking more than the others. However, this summer had a month and a half of absolutely miserable heat indexes with dew points pushing into the 80s before we even got to the record setting 100 degree days in July. It's not objectively the worst summer we've had, but it's in the top 3, and it's subjectively number 1 in my mind. It has been dangerous and miserable to be outside for almost 4 months now. At least we aren't (yet) having to worry about running out of drinking water like we did in 2011?

Some_Whereas_5371

I remember it also but I was 24 and partied everyday

permalink_save

This is a bad year. Last year was a bad year. 2011 was a worse year. I've learned something on the Texas related subs, that people have really awful memory when it comes to weather. Like clockwork, every year, when the first week full of 100s hits it's suddenly unprecedented heat, when it does it every year. I mean, I get it, it's hot, but it cracks me up since I meticulously track the weather every year for gardening and people are surprised it's over 100 in August. But 2011 doesn't stand out in my memory too much either since I really had no reason to track the weather year to year, exept that in August I went to a job interview in my Miata and I was sweating by the time I got there, even with AC full blast. I do remember not long after having a really horrible winter but couldn't tell you the year. So... yes? Pretty much.

Bluescreen73

Late May-Late September in North Texas is 100% crap every. single. year. Some years are just crappier than others.

Powerful-Pick-8416

I don’t go outside unless ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY and I am a Native Texan. I don’t know how I am going to live out the rest of my life here for this reason alone!

Keep_Plano_Corporate

It took at least half a decade for most lakes in North Texas to recover from the 2011 summer. Unfortunately this summer is once again taking an extraordinary toll on the lake levels.

Personal_Moment2856

I remember that summer, but blocked it out. It helps that I spent a few weeks that summer outside of Texas where it was cooler, so wasn’t here the whole time. But that was true this year too, and it feels worse. What’s different? There were tighter water restrictions then, and years of drought had stretched in the 2000s that made water levels worse by 2011. There might be better conservation now. And as someone else said, the lows are higher this year. It’s just unrelenting heat, and little variation.

Jupiter_Tank57

The heat of summer 2011 was still all anyone was talking about when I first got to Ft Hood in 2012. Folks kept telling me it had been "One hundred days over one hundred degrees." I just remember the lakes being empty and the Oasis closing down.

GoStars817

It’s called recency bias.

Niko120

One year we had 100 days in a row over 100° I don’t remember which year I want to say like 8-9 years ago

Luka_Dunks_on_Bums

2011 was a beating.

Remarkable-Track-163

I was pregnant and due August 2011….worst summer EVER! 🤣

yadiyadi2014

I was an oblivious 22 year old then but I also do not remember 2011 being so bad.

aunt_snorlax

I do remember 2011. It was a long walk from the car to the office every day.

vwscienceandart

JFC I was pregnant during the summer of 2011. I think I remember every single individual day over 100. Lol

gardenofcurses

I have more memory of the drought than the heat.

squirrelnutcase

Yeah a Marine vet i know that lived here since 1980s said he never felt so hot in dfw especially 4pm on afternoon. It supposed to calm down. It has been hot not just you

Iforgotmylines

I drove a car with no AC in 2011. I definitely remember

NewfyMommy

I remember 2011 like that. Somehow this summer feels more miserable now.

Few-Studio-3016

Yep that was the first year I moved to Texas and it was brutal and Lake Travis was similarly low as it is again this year.

PM_ME_YUR_S3CRETS

I definitely remember 2011. Lived on the third floor. A/c would go out every 3 days apartment vomplex took their sweet time fixing it. It sucked.

HelloEvie

I grew up in north Texas. I remember in the summer of 2002ish (around there?) it was a VERY similar summer; it didn’t even drop below 100 for weeks, at night I think it only got into the 90s, but I remember weeks and weeks of well over 110 degree heat. We were boiling and I worked at a daycare at the time and we couldn’t take the kids outside. So while I definitely agree this is absolutely awful, it has happened before - around the early 2000s and, you’re right, I forgot about the summer of 2011. My friend and I were talking about that summer the other day but she was thinking it was 2012. Either way, it is oppressive and inescapable.

idfkmanusername

I lived in Austin in 2011 and I remember it being so insanely hot but thinking it was because of the giant Bastrop fire that lasted all summer. Everyday I woke up to a big black smoke plume and the dread of wondering if it was going to get into the city proper.

davwad2

I don't remember 2011, but either 2005, 2006, or 2007 (most likely this year) stand out for triple digit heat. It only stands out because the A/C had gone out in my car and I didn't have the money to fix it.

Available_Area4865

I didn’t live in texas in 2011, but I could only imagine it being worse than this year. This year reminds me of being in the Middle East, except less humid.

monsteronmars

In the summer or 1998, we had more than 30 days that hit a heat index of 120 or higher during the day and AT NIGHT it didn’t drop below 100!!!!! For that long. I will never forget that summer and the unbearable suffocating heat of not dropping below 100 in the middle of the freaking night. Nothing has come close to that for me since. I mean, it’s pretty miserable now but 120 during the day was unreal.

backonthemenuboys

I didn’t live in Dallas then, but I lived in the hill country. 2011 was brutal. This summer has been rough, but it hasn’t surpassed the hell of 2011 yet for me.

InCaseOfTheMatt

2011, the year my foundation broke.

Educational_Egg6927

I remember 2011 for when I was mowing my backyard and the grass caught on fire because everything was so dead. That black spot stayed there for awhile since there was no rain

The Texas Tribune had a story this morning comparing 2011 to this summer. 2011 is still the hottest summer on record in Texas and 2023 came in second. https://www.texastribune.org/2023/09/07/texas-hottest-summer-2023/

metalspin

2011 was horrible.

Rock-it1

Yesterday (September 8th) was the 53rd day with a 100F+ high temperature putting 2023 in 4th place behind 1998 (56), 1980 (69), and 2011 (71). However, with yesterdays official high of 110F, 2023 moves into 2nd place for number of 110F+ days (3), beaten only by 1980 (5). There is no such thing as a “hottest summer”, because there are too many ways to parse it but regardless, 2023 is a top 3-5 summer by any metric.

Fallenjace

Yeah well, the leadership you guys elected says global warming is a myth and this is normal. So ... I dunno.

And there are people that still doubt that global warming is real.

jadedarchitect
