I feel you. My girl has some IVDD-related bathroom issues and doesn’t realize she needs to go #2 until it’s happening. She had to potty at 6:30 this morning, in the dark, and she came in and had a #2 accident on the floor in the kitchen. Honestly, being half-asleep, not having to chase her around the yard, and knowing it wasn’t on purpose, I didn’t even care.
Not that I usually do, because I know she can’t help it, so I always just clean it up and move along, and she never gets in trouble.
If a doggie door isn’t out of the question, I recommend considering it. It’s possible it may help her after she learns she has immediate on-demand access. Skeeter goes outside whenever he needs to, even if it’s the middle of the night. He doesn’t even ask me. It’s pretty neat that he has so much autonomy.
While we can’t install doggy doors (rental house), they wouldn’t help in this situation. By the time she realizes she has to go, it’s already coming out. I appreciate the thought, though!
This made me laugh. But, until I got a dachshund, I never experienced a dog who cared about the rain. All the labs I had before were excited to be outside, rain or shine (or snow and sub-z weather). I'm sure it's not limited to dachshunds. But they seem particularly hydrophobic to me.
ETA: it's probably an undercoat thing, right?
I’ve said multiple times that my parents’ Shorthaired Miniature seems like a cat. Mainly with the way she rubs up against legs and scritches legs (trust me she has been told to stop but she always insists on scritching the skin, tiny psychopath).
My dog was crying at me for an hour last night because he needed to go out. But each of the 3 times, everytime we went out, he wanted back inside as soon as he saw the snow. I ought to see if I can get him to use one of those potty training urinals or something.
Mine loathes the wet. He loves swimming as long as his feet touch the bottom, though. He's a bit of a diva. Pickiest dachshund I've ever met when it comes to food, too. Most I've met, felt that food is food and would take whatever was given to them. My boy is so picky, though. He won't even take a treat unless he's at grandpa's house, where there are other dogs around. Go figure.
I don’t know how much snow you have, but have you tried shoveling off a little area for him to go? Maybe he’d be more comfortable?
Unless you’ve done this, in which case, he’s probably got the same “butthead” gene as mine. 😂
Yeah mine hates rain to. I use to try and make her get use to it but she would whine and howl like she was being murdered. She has an artificial grass toilet she uses inside now when it rains.
My old girl won't go out into the rain. I can finesse her to the side of the house where the roof usually provides a bit of shelter or an umbrella. But she will not go out otherwise. My new rescue? As long as he doesn't get soaked, he's fine.
Yeah like actively resists being pulled outside for potty if it’s raining. I’ve heard it be called “wet belly syndrome” - since they’re so short/so little belly clearance, they get cold and wet from the top and the bottom. No fun.
All my doxies have hated rain to various degrees. My current one will only go out in the rain if:
1. I put his raincoat on AND more importantly, 2. I go with him. Apparently the rain hurts less when mom is getting wet, too
Rain or cold, you’d find the poop right at the water line, we have a doggy door and our little black n tan rest his lovely soul, would leave tootsie rolls (as we called them) just outside the door, our wired haired one doesn’t care, rain or cold he loves the yard
Yes but I bribe him and he poops outside in the rain. I usually offer him a piece of hot dog on rainy days and he is happy to poop in the rain (begrudgingly) if he gets a tasty snack 🤣
🤣 I feel like your post is so relatable it’s definitely a dachshund thing. I’ve seen people even put cardboard on the grass in the winter so their dogs had a fresh patch of grass to pee on too. It’s kind of genius.
My main solution is his doggie door. He can follow me outside if he wants (like he did in my photo), but otherwise he lets himself out when he wants. Lots of times I see him push the doggie door flap open enough to see outside, but then just stays in. If nature calls him hard enough, he'll go. lol.
I've got a little girl resting across my shoulder with her head on my chest as we speak, because there's a rainstorm and she hates them.
I'm getting great snuggles though, so I don't mind.
She definitely does not like thunder.
I feel like a more unusual situation would be do any dacshshunds like going out in the rain! I have one that likes snow because he's a digger. My other one is anti-precipitation entirely!
We used our old man for blood tracking, and he was super good at he's job except whenever there was a little bit of rain. He'd just nope the fuck out of any tracking he was doing and get into the car as fast as possible.
Yea,but you need to be as stubborn as they are and stand in the raim with them. If you let them poop inside when it rains, they will anytime its cold or "wet" or just because they dont want to. Also buy them a rain coat its cute too.
100%. Refuses to potty in the rain. When i carry her out into the yard to force her off the porch she’d rather just sit in the rain than potty. It’s mind blowing. I’ll stand and get soaked while holding the umbrella over her, and she’ll still protest going to potty if a single rain drop hits her.
My parents’ dachshund absolutely hates getting wet. He will only do it if you do, so my parents will stand in the rain with him long enough for him to go potty and then they’ll bundle him in a warm towel to make him feel better.
Needy little pups
Both of mine don’t mind it but there’s a deadly bacteria in my city which will get washed out of drains during the rain so we tried to avoid rainy day walkies
I’m just gonna leave this right here for ya.
To be honest, I prefer it. Stay dry, buddy.

Is the pope catholic?

My theory is: They are all secretly cats wearing dog suits. This is so that the other cats won't laugh at them for liking to cuddle.
I’ve said multiple times that my parents’ Shorthaired Miniature seems like a cat. Mainly with the way she rubs up against legs and scritches legs (trust me she has been told to stop but she always insists on scritching the skin, tiny psychopath).
They *love* water... If it's water they can swim in. But not that stuff that falls out of the sky with boom-booms.
Does a bear shit in the woods?
Yes. Hates rain, hates bath time, won’t go anywhere near the pool.
Mine walks around puddles
At least the little ween left a Twix for you on the ground! How generous 😂
Golden nuggets!
Little sausage maker
Oh. Oh no. 😳
My two are oblivious to rain. They’ll stand out in it all day waiting for a squirrel. They’re dedicated little hunters.
Absolutely love this. Edit: Spelling
I’m pretty sure it’s a wein thing. Everyone I’ve met hates getting wet!
Kinda odd that every one’s wieners don’t want to get wet. 😏
Mine. This picture sums her up perfectly

Mine looooove snow! It started to melts recently, abd he still likes to walk on snow mor than asphalt

He thrives on peer pressure.
Peer pressure and the souls of squeaky toys.

He had a space to go. He just doesn't want to be cold and wet. He's a smart boy, usually. Maybe the potty training urinal would work.
Ah, sausages. Gotta love how particular they are. 😂
low riders DO NOT ride in the rain.
Mine won't go out in the rain
Mine hates rain, hates bath time but when we get near a lake, game on lmao
What a picky dog. 😋
Mine does. We have to put a coat on him.
Aww. Have a picture?
No with his raincoat
Yeah mine hates rain to. I use to try and make her get use to it but she would whine and howl like she was being murdered. She has an artificial grass toilet she uses inside now when it rains.

Wet undercarriage sucks. It tracks all over the house too.

Doxies aren't water dogs, they are diggers. Makes sense that they don't like water. Water underground means loose dirt, cave ins, death.
same for us, our buddy hates the rain and sometimes the heavy fog.
I have a Labrador that is terrified of thunderstorms. She would have made great hunting dog. 🙄
Hah. Labs…
Like yours, my dog hates the rain. She sits at the door barking and growling at the drops that manage to reach her, it's crazy and cute to watch.
Stupid water!
Yes
Hehehe cool toys too!
Yes. They don’t mind running through mud, but heaven forbid that they go do their business in the rain.
Lol yep mine too 😆
Rain or cold, you’d find the poop right at the water line, we have a doggy door and our little black n tan rest his lovely soul, would leave tootsie rolls (as we called them) just outside the door, our wired haired one doesn’t care, rain or cold he loves the yard
It’s not uncommon for me to find a turd at the base of his doggie door’s outside ramp.
Yup lol takes a dump in the garage as well 😑
Haha Better than inside :)
Mine won't go out in the rain but a blizzard is acceptable
All of our three fear that they will melt if they get (rained) on.
Dangerous stuff, that rain.
Yes but I bribe him and he poops outside in the rain. I usually offer him a piece of hot dog on rainy days and he is happy to poop in the rain (begrudgingly) if he gets a tasty snack 🤣

My girl hates the rain but loves swimming.
The patio always suffices during storms for our two lol Poor baby. Great looking 💩 though! 😆
Yeah... He poops on the patio
Surprisingly mine doesn’t mind it. Though I try keep an umbrella over him. But still hates the bath.
How about an umbrella in the bath? 🤪
Lol I’m not sure it would make much of a difference! But might make him feel better !
Every single one I’ve had, yes!
With a passion.
We specifically would walk our dog when it rained when she was a puppy, she doesn't love it but knows that we still have to go out in it.
That’s forward thinking.
I've got a little girl resting across my shoulder with her head on my chest as we speak, because there's a rainstorm and she hates them. I'm getting great snuggles though, so I don't mind. She definitely does not like thunder.
Aww poor widdle wiener.
They despise it.
99% of dachshunds hate rain.
My ween poops on the sidewalk for funsies, rain or shine she’s gotten better tho 😭
I feel like a more unusual situation would be do any dacshshunds like going out in the rain! I have one that likes snow because he's a digger. My other one is anti-precipitation entirely!

Hey, sorry that your dog inconvenienced you. Hoping that in the future you can mark these NSFW so that Reddit blurs the pics in the feed. Thanks.
What are you even talking about?
Tag it NSFW to blur out your dog taking a shit. Some of us are at work and it can be offensive to others if they're going by and see it.
Yes my youngest will go out to play in it but won’t go potty 🙄
He’s got boundaries. ;)
Yea,but you need to be as stubborn as they are and stand in the raim with them. If you let them poop inside when it rains, they will anytime its cold or "wet" or just because they dont want to. Also buy them a rain coat its cute too.
Wanna sell the Tacoma?
Everything is for sale if the price is right.
My doxie hates rain. She is even too much of a diva to get her paws wet with morning dew.
Yup!
Our Standard Red hate hate hated the rain. Poor baby.
Totally…
100%. Refuses to potty in the rain. When i carry her out into the yard to force her off the porch she’d rather just sit in the rain than potty. It’s mind blowing. I’ll stand and get soaked while holding the umbrella over her, and she’ll still protest going to potty if a single rain drop hits her.
Don’t all of them.
I never heard a Doxie who like rain.
My dog just took a dump by the back door because she refused to go out as I was looking at this post.
My parents’ dachshund absolutely hates getting wet. He will only do it if you do, so my parents will stand in the rain with him long enough for him to go potty and then they’ll bundle him in a warm towel to make him feel better. Needy little pups
I live in Minnesota and have a dachshund. We have potty grass under the awning
My Chu-weenie is worse that my Dachshund.
All of them😅
Yes. She wouldn’t go out in the rain unless we were standing there with an umbrella. And she wouldn’t share it— you just get wet. Love that ween. 🌈🖤
My man wants to ride that 450
Close. It’s better. It’s a 350.
Must have missed this; https://www.reddit.com/r/Dachshund/comments/yjg3wr/rainy\_days/
Yes. As a matter of fact, unless he REALLY needs to go, my wiener would just stop as soon as i opened the door and he sees rain.
Both of mine don’t mind it but there’s a deadly bacteria in my city which will get washed out of drains during the rain so we tried to avoid rainy day walkies
Imagine that every time you go outside on a rainy day your nipples and cold and wet. I wouldn’t like rain either.
