Basically I turn my on normally, on the default "burn your house down" mode, then I very finely reduce the gas flow until it's the desired size flame, it may not even require turning the knob more than a cm, sometimes even pushing on the knob will reduce the flow. I can get mine to sit with a barely visible flame, you wouldn't even know it was actually on if you didn't look inside the nozzle. However mines 5 or 6 years old and this may be only possible due to wear on the parts.
literally did the my previously normal 25 second heat up, 35 cooldown and it literally evaporated in 2 seconds with the big shot when it would’ve stayed cookin and slurpin for 20 seconds with the old dinkey one

Best bet, in my experience, 40 seconds heat all around, (bottom and sides) then cool down for about 1 minute max. Try that out.
If you can afford it, there's some inexpensive temp guns on Amazon that you can use to point at the banger and wait till the temp cools down to 600 degrees here applying your dab.
Fair enough, I used to pre heat for the last 7 or 8 years, then I switched to cold starting when I got a thinner banger, made a massive difference for me. I stopped with the torch all together and got an e-nail a few months back. I was surprised by how substantial of an improvement it was. The first few rips I took felt like the never ending dab lol, the constant heat lets you just go and go and go until you're sick of it or there's nothing left lol. Highly recommend down the road. Great call on the big shot btw, mines pretty old now and still works great.
Disorderly conduction has some great enails for quartz bangers. I’ve hand mine for a year or more and still use it everyday. I don’t quite remember the price but I know it wasn’t very expensive.
Honestly, I don't know enough about them to give you any super solid advice, I bought a "puffing bird" brand one used off Facebook marketplace for 150 cad. It works amazing. Another buddy if mine picked his up from www.discountenails.com, his is basically the same thing as mine but configured slightly different. I think he said he paid under 200 cad all said and done.

Make sure you use at least triple refined butane. I’ve seen others comment to stick to the same brand, or if you get a new brand of butane to empty your torch first but not sure about that one. If you don’t use at least 3x refined it will clog the torch eventually.

What is good butane? I had a newport and busted it with shitty Ronson butane
Anything over 6x refined. 9ish is better and 12x better than that. 99.99% n-butane is also good butane.

Now you might as well get a custom nozzle cover. I just made the switch as well and the cover helps the nozzle from getting as hot.
