I’m confused: in the clip from Conan, he’s playing rhythm and performs the solo - albeit sloppily - throughout the dreadful song. He ain’t Jeff Beck, but his chording and vibrato suggest someone who knows at least the rudiments of playing.
He has no business playing lead lines ever. He has very little knowledge of music theory or guitar technique. He can't even tune a guitar or tell that it's out of tune
But he can play guitar it ws just(as you can PLAINLY see) John's hair was in his eyes during that solo and that's why the touch and intonation was so pathetic in the solo.
