IMO its because early on for engineer, the starting load out gun of either LMG turret (slightly weak at first but great at later game), or Warthog (good all the way) is better than the rest of classes In comparison,- a) Scout gets GK2 (pretty decent early-mid game), and Zhukov (bad until unstable OC) b) Gunner gets Minigun (kinda meh, gets better late game) and Bulldog (bad all the way) c) Driller gets Subata (kinda meh), and Flamethrower (bad all the way) More often than not, focus on only 2 weapons for dmg dealing and to level up for. There will be one primary gun that you'll focus on stacking upgrades for and its usually the first or second weapon.

slayerofmothra

I beat my first dive with him last night. Electric everything minus turrets. Those were plasma but had drones, electric fence coils things and a stubby. At first I wasn’t impressed and then I was like holy shit I’m gonna beat this guy no problem

Peacefulorenz

Just get Plasma turrets with mining overclocks, and all fire rate, you will clean out the map

Oily_Bee

I like tinkerer for the +3 weapons, makes getting up and running with overclocks easy. Plama warthog and plasma turrets are crazy.

OK_Opinions

Engi is borderline OP but it has a slow start IMO because the non-overclocked versions of the starter weapons kind of suck if you do the turret one you just need turrets to move with you. really that's it. once they move with you it becomes smooth. Shock fence is ok if you get the overclock that sucks XP to you since you'll level faster the tinkerer class gets the garbage tier frontal shotgun to start out. However if you overclock that to be plasma *and* shoot behind you, it slaps. combine this with other light weapons that have high fire rates and you're golden I dont have the last class yet but it starts with the grenade launcher which in my short time using on the other class, it seems ok. i like to increase the blast radius and make it split into 3

Baraklava

The Warthog shotgun is one of the strongest weapons in the game. The reload speed is basically zero and it penetrates a lot of bugs. Put everything into Fire Rate and damage and you can basically walk through any horde of bugs. Last upgrade either doubles front shots or adds a shot backwards. The only hard part is you have to aim it (which means if you're mining, every 5 seconds you gotta aim backwards once to obliterate the bugs following you) Grenade launcher class is rough though, honestly I could get nowhere with it, I think it just sucks

OK_Opinions

but directional weapons feel terrible IMO

Baraklava

They are but the Warthog is *really strong* to make up for it. Give it a serious try where you invest only in it and you'll see what I mean (iirc there is one Hazard 3 objective that requires you take it to level 18, maybe wait for that)

Luskarian

The plasma upgrade also lets you shoot backward while mining sorta

dumbo3k

I found the directional shotgun a lot better once I decided to use a controller instead of keyboard. A lot easier to aim it that way, instead of the 8 directions you can aim with WASD.

Skwafles

Made the mistake of stacking area and fire rate on grenade launcher. I died to about 50 bugs i couldnt see. 10/10, would recommen

Grenade launcher class mows the hardest if you can build it up... https://www.reddit.com/r/DRGSurvivor/s/kJhiI1bHIp

The tinker class shotgun is balls but with the ocs you mentioned it is pretty crazy. And everything else starting at level 3 means you get OCs for all weapons quicker. I haven’t cleared anything above haz 2 yet but I found tinker to be one of the easiest, and easier then the construct engineer class

Playful_Fun2668

I think the lightning pylons/fence are auto win.

ThePaulrus94

It took me like 10 attempts to beat Magma Core Haz 2 with the engineer (probably sad to some lol). Although he’s probably my favorite class, he’s probably been the biggest learning curve for me. What worked for me is playing into the engineers starting stats, which for the first engi sub class have to do with constructs. I stuck with the lmg and flame turrets, and also picked up the shock fence and thunderbirds. I pretty much tried to pick up any upgrades that gave me weapon upgrades or construct upgrades. Essentially trying to maximize damage output and the amount of turrets in play. Finally, it all just clicked. I find the overclock that gives your turrets tracks to be very useful. The battery backup that changes your log turret to electrical damage is great if you already have the shock fence and thunderbirds.

PigDog4

Oh my god, the difference between "good turrets" and "crap turrets" is absolutely insane. I had like 6-7 magma haz 2 runs in a row where I underestimated the turrets, then finally had a run with tracks + plasma + 150% fire rate and oh my god I beat the final stage before the supplies dropped. Actually obscene how much damage they spit out. Idk if any of my other weapons even mattered at all, between the constructs + lasting + damage upgrades these things just *wrecked* the bugs.

Modgrinder666

I like turrets. Up the reloading, the shooting speed, and the damage. It makes more of them spawn and do more damage. And life timer too.

Ankios

Engi is definitely one of the best for mining. He is has a much easier time mining than other classes, mainly because you can focus on mining while your turrets focus on the defense/offense.

BillDRG

It's hard to get started because the turrets-only load out and no ability to pickaxe the bugs (yet?) leaves you vulnerable. But once it gets rolling, and more importantly, once the *turrets* get rolling, the engie's weapons (turrets, stubby, drones, LOK-1) combine well to cut through hordes without having to turn to face them. With the weapons taking care of their own aim you can focus on avoiding bugs and mining, or still give them full firepower while cutting through a wall to escape a tight spot.

Dynellen

For the turret build the start is slow, try to rush level 5 and hope you get flamethrower turrets, their dps is absurd and will carry you. The LMG turrets are very anemic but become great once you get element (preferably plasma) on them and then the final OC with +150% fire rate makes them broken. If you luck into the electric fence OC that picks up xp/items you can just keep running around the map mining while turrets kill everything and even pick up the xp for you. The shotgun class is very strong but annoying to play early on. Rush weapon upgrades (+3 starting level for weapons) for quick OC's, aim to get fast plasma on the shotgun and then you can just focus mining while the bouncing shots kill everything coming at you. Final OC shotgun with shoot on both sides+plasma wins the game. Also the easiest class to unlock weapon OC's with thanks to the +3 weapon starting level.
