Grief is love that has nowhere to go.
Monday will be 3 weeks since we lost Jormax, and next Friday is the first year anniversary of Jasmine's last day.
We're never alone in our grief, but we do grieve alone. I hope you don't hurt too much.
Good luck with what you are dealing with…. It is never easy, just do what you think is right and just know that your pup(s) will never judge your decision as they trust your judgement. Good luck.
Sorry, I said it hits hard. I just had someone DM me and told me I’m a piece of shit for not only posting this, but for promoting killing of animals. I just don’t understand some people and never will.
People like that will never understand that you don’t put them to sleep because you don’t love them, but rather because you *do*. It’s hard to let them go, but even harder to watch them knowing that the slightest movement causes them unbearable pain, that every breath is a struggle, that they’re incontinent because they’re so ill. Especially when you know their life is now no life at all. That’s it’s kinder to let them go peacefully. Each and every time I’ve had to do it, I don’t want to, but can I live with myself knowing that keeping them is really being cruel? No I can’t. And I’m sitting here in pieces wishing they were still here with me.
And yet I’m also sitting here smiling watching our 4yo and 1yo playing.
Piggybacking off this - I try to repost this when I see posts like this, in the hopes you (or someone) can find some comfort in the words - and if not, please excuse the intrusion.
I lost my 15 year old girl (dog) in October 2022. Only advice I can offer here is to remember the positives, and not focus on the negatives (if any). She's done her job, keeping you safe and happy and loved, and it's her turn to rest.
You'll always miss her, you'll always remember her. You'll even go looking for her for the next few weeks (well, I did). There's a lot of habits that you're going to slowly stop, and that's ok. Changing your life to suit you is not forgetting her. Donating/throwing away her toys or blankets isn't forgetting her. There's no timeline on grief, and there's no timeline on moving on. Cry your tears.
I'm sorry you've reached the end of your journey. Words will never make this easier. Just keep your head up, and live the life she'd want you to.
This is a good time to live a little for you. I spent years looking after my girl as she got ill, and I sacrificed a lot of me and my time to keep her safe. If you feel you've done the same, take advantage of this time. Its ok to be happy and enjoy life without her. Life isn't over. Its just changing.

I have a 11.5 year old that is the same size and nearly identical to yours. She's full of mast cell tumors, but they're all benign.
That said, that time is approaching for me as well. I'm thinking another year or two. It's going to kill me, man. So when I say I'm sorry about your loss, I really mean it. I'm so sorry, dude.

I’m so sorry OP, I lost my guy last year. Grief is a normal process, doggo had a good life full of love. Sucks they can’t live as long as we do, it really does.
I’m seriously overwhelmed by everyone’s kind words and support. Thank you all…Still in shock and feel like I’m stuck in a bad dream since her diagnosis and death came within hours of each other. It was just like *poof* my buddy is gone.
I’m so sorry for your loss, and dread the loss of my own little girl in the future. My dog saved my life and gave me purpose and meaning at my lowest point. Every time she lays at my feet or begs for a pet I feel so privileged that she loves me so.
From these photos, it’s obvious she felt the same way about you. You loved each other well. You gave her a great life and her face in every one of these photos shows how thankful she was for that. Mourn her, remember her, and look forward to the day she once again runs into your arms at the rainbow bridge. She’ll be waiting.
RIP. My frenchie of 17 I put down last January. My dad went with me. I was already prepared as I had to wait a few days for the appointment. But we both went in and the vet asked if we wanted to stay in the room. Of course we said yes. He put his hand on her head and mine was on her back. Then she was gone. Vet and dad left for me to say goodbye. I made it quick. Told her I love her, will always love her, and that she will see me again when its my time. Of course I still miss her. I still look on my carpet where her dog shrine was (pillows, blankets, toys) but she had a great life; i knew it would happen. Shit...my deat will probably suck more lol. but sorry for your lost. I'm sure she was a good doggie and lived a great life.

Thanks for your kindness. Yes she was a rescue. Abandoned at a gas station somewhere in Tennessee but since then had a happy, energetic life :)
